Long before Zack Snyder’s big-screen stab at Watchmen, prevailing wisdom was that writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons’ epic, genre-defining graphic novel was impossible to adapt for the screen. The 2009 feature film treatment did little to counter the argument — the movie has a 64% score on the Tomatometer. Damon Lindelof’s upcoming HBO effort might have better luck. The new series is not an exact adaptation, but a sequel in series format, and it is still under particular scrutiny going into its October 20 premiere.Fortunately, the creator has a secret weapon up his sleeve: namely, a pair of Oscar-winning leads in Regina King and Jeremy Irons.Set 30 years and change after the events of the original source material (which Lindelof considers canon and does not stray from), this Watchmen follows — among other things — the rise of a white supremacist terrorist group called the Seventh Cavalry and the masked police force in Tulsa, Oklahoma, tasked with finding them out and taking them down. King stars as detective Angela Abar (aka Sister Knight), while Irons’ character, on the other hand, has been sealed tight in secrecy. Many theories and leaks suggest that he’s playing an aged Ozymandias from the original novels, but how he fits into the plots of Sister Knight and the Seventh Calvary remains unclear. One thing is certain: Both roles give the inimitable acting talents a lot to play with.(Photo by Colin Hutton/HBO)The two joined Lindelof, series director Nicole Kassell, and castmates including Jean Smart, Hong Chau, and Tim Blake Nelson on stage at New York Comic Con on October 4, where they teased what’s to come in the much-anticipated, 10-episode first season, and King and Irons shared exactly how the creator of Lost and The Leftovers courted them for his latest buzzy project.“Damon took me to lunch,” Irons said in his iconic drawl, admitting that he didn’t fully understand what he was getting himself into. “[He] talked for an hour and a half, very quickly, with enormous enthusiasm, showing me that he had an imagination of an enormous wit. And I ate, and I understood about, I don’t know, 10 percent of what he was saying…. So I ate well, and at the end, I thanked him for his time and I left.”While the content of the graphic novel and the world that Lindelof was creating here was lost on Irons (“He was talking about this graphic novel/comic book world of which I knew nothing because I live in England and I’m over 45. Somehow that whole world had passed me by!”), the actor was left “fascinated” by the man pitching him from across the table.“He gave me bits of the script, which I had read, and it amused me hugely,” Irons continued, “but mainly all I thought was: That man who I just had lunch with has such energy and enthusiasm, I don’t know what he’s going to do, and I don’t know what he’s going to make, but if he thinks that I can be of some help in this story, then I’m on board.”King, an Emmy nominee for her work with Lindelof on season 2 of The Leftovers, was similarly wooed, but not until he broke one of his own filmmaking rules to hire her. Prior to King, the creator had adamantly never worked with actors on more than one project. “It was a dumb rule!” he exclaimed to the NYCC audience.“I’m glad I didn’t know about rule, because I would’ve thought that it was a joke,” King chimed in before recounting how she received a letter and script from Lindelof to her personal address. “It came directly to my house and it had the loveliest letter that said this is his next project, it’s dear to him, and he couldn’t see anyone else to be on this train with.”Talk about an opening line — King admitted that from that moment, she didn’t “even really care what I’m about to read, I’m in it!” But what really sold her was Lindelof’s inclusion of a sealed envelope midway through the script that instructed: “Regina: Don’t open this until you get to this page. Don’t cheat!” So upon getting to the envelope in the script (it was tucked between the first pages of Sister Knight’s introduction), she opened it. “I opened it up and it was an artist’s rendering of my face as Sister Knight,” King said to a round of applause from her audience.“It would’ve been very awkward if you had said no,” Lindelof said. “Very, very awkward.”King s first thoughts on reading the script? She related: “I had never read anything like this. I had never seen this world, I had never seen this woman before. So complex How could I not say yes? Just tell me where I have to show up.”Watchmen premieres Sunday, October 20 at 9 p.m. on HBO.Like this? Fan Favorite TV Shows 2019November 12, 2019 will go down in history as the day “Baby Yoda” took over the internet. Disney+ launched with Star Wars series The Mandalorian, and Chapter 1 revealed “The Child” – a 50-year-old baby of the same species as deceased Jedi Master Yoda. Creator Jon Favreau had kept the show’s secret star tightly under wraps – all fans knew was that Pedro Pascal of Game of Thrones and Narcos fame would appear as the titular Mandalorian, along with costars Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Nick Nolte, Ming-Na Wen, Giancarlo Esposito, and Werner Herzog. And when eager Star Wars fans discovered the gift Favreau had in store for them at the end of the premiere episode – spoilers be damned! – they were going to share their joyful first impressions of the tiny green babe. “I would die for Baby Yoda!” fans gleefully exclaimed – then immediately began arguing with other fans about using the “Baby Yoda” nickname and complaining that they couldn’t buy a Child stuffed toy in time for Christmas. This is what a cultural phenomenon looks like, and Disney reaped the benefits to the tune of almost billion in revenue for the quarter of the streaming service’s launch. No surprises that it won the Fan vote, coming out on top after 42,000 votes were cast. Season 2 is expected in October 2020, and stores will begin deliveries on plush toy preorders in late May.The order below reflects the number of total votes cast for each TV show by users in a poll that ran on RT from January 9 to February 16.« Previous Category Next Category »环球体育手机版官网但手游最大的特点就是,游戏系统本身被尽量简化了。

(Photo by © A24)2019 has been such a strong year for wide-release horror films that the upcoming Black Christmas remake could receive a 0% Tomatometer score and the average for the 23 horror films released in 2019 would still be a Fresh 60%. This may not seem all that important, but this is big news for horror fans. Why? Because in the modern era of horror (which we’ll define as from 1980 forward), there hasn’t been a year with a Fresh overall Tomatometer score. This Fresh average shouldn’t come as a surprise to those paying attention to the genre this year – Certified Fresh hits like Us, Crawl, Ready or Not, and Midsommar have won over critics and audiences alike. Even remakes/adaptations are over-performing critically as Child’s Play (63%) and Pet Sematary (57%) are Fresh and very close to it, respectively, when historically horror remakes average a Rotten 44% Tomatometer average. In honor of this Fresh year of theatrically released horror, we pulled the Tomatometer data on the 644 horror movies that received wide releases (defined here as 600+ theaters) in the United States since 1980. We wanted to know how the preceding 40 years of horror films matched up against 2019, and if any year had a higher Tomatometer average.Quick Note: We chose 1980-2019 because there is greater consistency in Tomatometer data than in earlier years. The 1970s were the bomb though.THE OVERALL AVERAGE FOR HORROR FILMS RELEASED SINCE 1980 IS A ROTTEN 43.8%(Photo by Lions Gate / Everett Collection )The overall Tomatometer average for the 644 horror movies that received wide theatrical releases since 1980 is a Rotten 43.8%, and 438 of those movies (or 68%) have scores below 60%. The Rotten far outweigh the Fresh, and for every Green Room, The Descent, The Thing, and Scream 2 , there are movies like Jaws: The Revenge, House of the Dead, I, Frankenstein, Godsend, The Roommate, and Dream House bringing down their average.Another interesting fact (for data nerds and horror movie lovers who are also data nerds) is that since 1990, only five years have had more Fresh horror films than Rotten: 1982 (7 4), 1983 (8 7), 1987 (10 7), 2013 (7 6), and 2019 (12 10). This data makes 2019’s Fresh score even more impressive. On a side note, the years 1997-1999 have a seriously high number of Rotten horror movies that we at RT actually love. Between Anaconda, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, The Faculty, Idle Hands, Blade, Deep Rising, The Relic, The Mummy, Lake Placid, and the king of all Rotten horror movies, Event Horizon (you can read more about Event Horizon as well as Blade in our book Rotten Movies We Love), the years are stacked with Rotten movies that are pretty awesome.THE BEST DECADE FOR HORROR IS THE 1980s. No Surprise there. (Photo by New Line Cinema)Despite having no single year with a Fresh Tomatometer score, the 1980s have the highest overall average with a groovy 52.5%. Buoyed by A Nightmare on Elm Street, Near Dark, The Fly, The Thing, and Fright Night, the 1980s slaughtered the 1990s (43.6%), 2000s (32.2%), and the 2010s (47.1%).Six of the top 10 years in our data set come from the 1980s, and 1987 came close to being Fresh, but the 0%-rated Jaws: The Revenge and the 9% House 2 kept it at a Rotten 57%. A big reason for the 1980s being the highest-rated decade is that it has only one year in the bottom 10 Rottenest years on the list (1989, with a Tomatometer average of 34.4%).2006 HAS THE LOWEST TOMATOMETER AVERAGE, AND THE MOST ROTTEN DECADE IS THE 2000s(Photo by © Warner Bros. )The worst year in our entire data set is 2006, which currently has a Rotten 31.1% average. The distinction is dubious, but at least 2006 kept it interesting with movies like Pan’s Labyrinth, The Descent, Slither, Hostel, Snakes on a Plane, The Hill Have Eyes, and The Wicker Man remake, an amazingly bonkers movie that features Nicolas Cage running all over the place while wearing a bear suit. Also, the first Black Christmas remake was released in 2006, and with a 14% Tomatometer score, the less said, the better. The 2000s as a whole weren’t much better, as the decade averaged a 32% Tomatometer score. Four of the five lowest Tomatometer years in the data set are from the 2000s, and only 33 of the 189 theatrically released movies in that decade have a Fresh Tomatometer score. The numbers may look bad, but on a positive note, the 2000s are responsible for bona fide classics like Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later, The Mist, and Zombieland. Plus, movies like Jennifer’s Body, 28 Weeks Later, 30 Days of Night, Constantine, Frailty, Eight Legged Freaks, and The Happening (it’s awesome, get over yourself), are starting to gain their due popularity.Random Tomatometer Fact: Imogen Poots, the star of the upcoming Black Christmas remake, made her horror debut in 2007, appearing in the Fresh 28 Weeks Later (the opening scene is awesome). Since then, she’s crushed it the underrated Fright Night remake and in Green Room, which is one of the best-reviewed horror films of recent memory.2019 HAS THE HIGHEST TOMATOMETER AVERAGE FOR HORROR MOVIES OF ANY YEAR SINCE 1980, AND IS THE ONLY FRESH YEAR,WITH A 63% AVERAGEWhat makes 2019 the only Fresh year in our data set might surprise you. While movies like Us, Doctor Sleep, The Lighthouse, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark helped greatly, it’s the remakes, prequels, sequels, and adaptations that greatly contributed to the overall Freshness. 2019 has been a lot of fun because of movies like Annabelle Comes Home, a sequel to a prequel (Annabelle: Creation) of a prequel (Annabelle), which has a Fresh 64% Tomatometer score. Normally, a horror movie so far removed from the original is almost always Rotten. Toss in the Certified Fresh Crawl (82%), a movie about rampaging alligators, and 3 From Hell, Rob Zombie s 50%-rated sequel to The Devil’s Rejects, and you have movies that are over-performing critically when compared the likes of Lake Placid (46%), Primeval (18%), 31 (47%), and Lords of Salem (46%) from past years. The 25% Tomatometer-rated Countdown, a movie about a ‘killer’ phone app, has the lowest score of any wide-release horror movie in 2019. Typically, a 25% score isn’t reason to celebrate – but when compared to the Rottenest horror movie of each year in our data set, it’s the least Rotten (the closest is 1984’s 23%-rated C.H.U.D.). In fact, the 10 Rotten horror movies released in 2019 have a 46.3% average, which is the highest average for the Rotten films of all the years in our data set. 2019 has the best of the worst, and that’s why it’s Fresh. What is your favorite year for horror? That’s not a bad thing, he’s great…it works perfectly for the character.” Germain Lussier, io9.com“There aren’t many other actors who can pull off this kind of performance, and that’s what I’ve grown to enjoy in watching Reynolds over the years.” Danielle Solzman, Solzy at the Movies“You get the sense that Ryan Reynolds has never had more fun.” Robert Daniels, The Playlist“Reynolds charisma shines through to make Guy a hero we can all get behind.” Ian Sandwell, Digital Spy“His performance as Guy is locked into an ultra-sincere easy mode that feels like the polar opposite of his Deadpool snark even though it clearly stems from the same place.” David Ehrlich, IndieWire“[It’s] his best role since Deadpool.” James Marsh, South China Morning PostWhat about Jodie Comer?“Comer, a bad-ass in her own rights, is relatable and endearing as Molotovgirl/Millie. But he’s also frustratingly close to being a magical Negro.” Robert Daniels, The Playlist“One can t help but feel that the PG-13 rating did somewhat prevent [the movie] from taking full advantage of the concept.” Mark Cassidy, ComicBookMovie.com“It bogs down every time we leave Guy to spend time with people in the real world…very little of it is interesting.” Rob Hunter, Film School RejectsWill it hold up to repeat viewings?“Once Free Guy is over, you immediately want to play it again.” Matt Goldberg, Collider“There s sure to be plenty to be discovered on repeat viewings, even if we re not quite sure that Free Guy will prove as entertaining the second time around.” Ian Sandwell, Digital Spy“If you pop your quarter in for a single play you ll get your money s worth here.” Rob Hunter, Film School RejectsFree Guy is in theaters on Friday August 13, 2021.

(Photo by Zade Rosenthal/Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)All Jeremy Renner Movies RankedJeremy Renner got his worst movie out of the way early with National Lampoon s Senior Trip, his feature debut which notched an impressive 0% in 1995. Renner essentially vanished from the big screen for years, notably returning in 2002 as the title Jeffrey in the Dahmer biopic. Obviously, this was going to be one dynamic, unpredictable movie career. He s since done well in Certified Fresh efforts like Arrival, The Town, and The Hurt Locker which got him a Best Actor Oscar nom. Renner was also for a time the guy you apparently hired when you re trying to figure out how to extend the life of your franchise. Think Bourne Legacy, which he starred in before Matt Damon decided to return to the spy series. Or how about Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, where he was obviously being groomed to take over for Ethan Hunt, until Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie decided to throw the series into overdrive with Rogue Nation and Fallout.Even his Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a strange trajectory, like an arrow curving around in the wind. It started with an odd cameo in Thor, being brainwashed in the first Avengers, and becoming quip-master general in Age of Ultron. And in case you thought he was under-appreciated, his absence from Infinity War led to half the life in the universe whipped to dust. Of course, everything got all wrapped up in Endgame, so now we re ranking the best Jeremy Renner movies (and the worst) by Tomatometer!

Whether they call it a reboot, remake or reimagining, television producers love to capitalize on nostalgia with fresh takes on beloved programming. But this doesn’t automatically mean the new versions are any good.Luckily, this isn’t the problem for the new take on Saved By the Bell, Peacock’s update – they prefer to go with option three and call it a “reimagining” – of the teen sitcom that ran from 1989 to 1993 on NBC (and then in syndicated reruns for near-perpetuity). The update, which released all 10 of its first season episodes in November on the streaming service, is Certified Fresh with critics calling it “a throwback that looks forward, embracing the past while living in the now” or arguing that it works because it’s self-aware and because it’s “legitimately funny and good-hearted in a time that s rife with cynicism.”So it wasn t much of a surprise when the series was renewed for a 10-episode second season.(Photo by Chris Haston/Peacock)Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, who appeared in the original series as the popular, progressive and overachieving Jessie Spano and who now returns to the show as an older, wiser and more accomplished version of the character, says credit for all this praise is due to the new series’ showrunner, Tracey Wigfield. She “could not have dreamed of someone better to bring this back with the right tone and the relevant issues, she told Rotten Tomatoes after the series November premiere. The 30 Rock and The Mindy Project alum grew up watching the first series take on topical issues like environmental awareness, women’s rights and – as Berkley Lauren’s Jessie herself immortalized when she became “so excited” and then “so scared” when she got hooked on caffeine pills – addiction within a neon haze of pranks, fake bands, large cell phones and Mark-Paul Gosselaar s lead Zack Morris occasional ability to stop time and break the fourth wall.(Photo by Trae Patton/Peacock)The new version follows what happens when California’s idiot mayor (Gosselaar reprising his role as the continually-failing-upward Zack) botches the school budgets and kids from a high school in a lower-income neighborhood join Zack and Jessie’s alma mater, Bayside High, after their school is closed. Class warfare, overprotective parenting, preconceived racial and social biases and more come into play (character actress Dana Powell guest-stars as a Bayside mom with a savior complex named Joyce Whitelady). But some things about high school never change, no matter the decade. And this show is full of Easter eggs and references to the classic version. The homage is seen most starkly in new show s inclusion of the original stars and its update on Berkley Lauren and Gosselaar’s characters, as well as their then-paramours Tiffani Thiessen’s Kelly Kapowski, and Mario Lopez’s A.C. Slater (now, respectively, First Lady of California Kelly Morris and the high school’s football coach).(Photo by Casey Durkin/Peacock)Or when it comes to recreating inevitable teen-aged infatuations. Josie Totah’s Lexi Haddad-DeFabrizio is a power-obsessed Type A personality who has long harbored feelings for her best friend, Jessie’s oft-clueless jock son, Jamie (Belmont Cameli). This dynamic is so similar to the Jessie-Slater pairing from back in the day that, in the episode where Lexi admits her feelings, her hair is styled in long blond waves – a modern-day take on the spirals of curls and big bows that Jessie used to wear (and, quite honestly, is sometimes seen sported even now). For Berkley Lauren, who is also a producer for this reimagining, it also means a chance to explore what happens when an ambitious teen girl grows into an educated and successful adult. Now the Jill Biden of Bayside High, Jessie is not only the school’s counselor, but she also holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology, is a best-selling author and is known in some circles for her TED Talks.“Jessie, at the time, was such a progressive character on television — especially for young woman — and a character who has such a strong vision for herself,” Berkley Lauren said. “She was all about success and accomplishments and what she was going to pursue … I felt protective and that I wanted to let [the fans] know what she actually did do and what she actually did go for and accomplish.”

The series is also getting a making of documentary as a digestif for its final season. The film traces the making of the series’ upcoming eighth season, and is set to air May 26, one week after the series final season finishes airing. Directed by British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, The Last Watch promises “unprecedented access” while the cast and crew “contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers,” according to HBO. Game of Thrones showrunner D. B. Weiss, producer Bernadette Caulfield, and writer David Benioff are executive producers on the documentary. The Last Watch will be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, and HBO On Demand on May 26.In other Thrones brand-extension news, Brewery Ommegang and HBO Licensing Retail will release the latest Game of Thrones beer nationwide in early April. 环球体育手机版官网 On June 22, 36 years have passed since the release of The Karate Kid, the story of an underdog, who explores a life unfamiliar to him, and who — with the help of a grumpy old man — raises himself up to be a champion. The 1984 film, directed by John Avildsen and written by Robert Kamen, had a lasting influence on the movie experience — future sports films would measure their stories against the tenacity and resolve on display in The Karate Kid, and Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, and William Zabka would enjoy a bright moment in the Hollywood sun. That sunlight faded after a time, as new heroes rose — mutants and aliens boasting super-human powers — and now, as their sweet summer dims, Macchio and Zabka have been coaxed back into the open to revisit their beloved characters of  Daniel LaRusso and  Johnny Lawrence in YouTube Premium series Cobra Kai, now available on Netflix.Season 1 was a Certified Fresh hit. All 43 critics that reviewed the season gave it a Fresh rating, landing Cobra Kai — the unlikely streaming TV revival of a slumbering monster film franchise — in our prestigious 100% TV season club. The series also brought back other familiar faces from the original movie, including Martin Kove, who played the Cobra Kai dojo s original alpha-male sensei Kreese in the film, and heartwarming tributes to the humble handyman and teacher Miyagi, played by Morita, who died in 2005.With Season 1 and 2 now on Netflix, with a third Cobra Kai season set to premiere in 2021, we sat down with Macchio and Zabka to talk about what got them back to the dojo, and paying homage to Morita. What follows is a history of Cobra Kai (2018-) and reflection upon the series beginnings, drawn from a sit-down interview with Macchio and Zabka.ALSO WATCH: ORAL HISTORY OF THE KARATE KID WITH RALPH MACCHIO AND WILLIAM ZABKA“It became part of the American lexicon at some point.”Ralph Macchio: “I mean, certainly in the earlier years, from the ’80s into the early ’90s, you had all those images of the crane kick, or the lines like, ‘Get him a body bag’ or ‘Sweep the leg.’ ‘Wax on, wax off.’ [The Karate Kid] became part of the American lexicon at some point. But I think the internet, if you will, or the ability for everyone to be able to talk and spread their voice, really is where it amped up to that other level. And then you have the How I Met Your Mother of it all, which was a show that always teed up from Barney Stinson s perspective of the real Karate Kid. And then that became this whole pop culture thing, and then other videos made. And that set the stage for, I think, the series Cobra Kai fan base coming to the table all amped up for decades of discussion. And it s cool that it all collided in such a good big way.”“We have to go convince Ralph Macchio. William Zabka: “Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, the creators of Cobra Kai, emailed me and they said, ‘Let’s have lunch and talk to you about a project that we re excited about.’ So I said, ‘OK. Where do you want to meet? There s a Mexican restaurant down the street from my house. Let s meet there.’(Photo by YouTube Premium)So we go in and go and sit at this back table, and the chips come, and they re telling the waiters to leave, and then it was just spitfire, like the three-headed dragon, just a machine gun of information. Like, ‘OK, so here it is. We re huge fans of Karate Kid. We love your work. We want to do this. It s called Cobra Kai. We got the rights of Karate Kid. You re Johnny Lawrence. You re like bad sensei, you re like Walter Matthau in Bad News Bears. You re gonna be the anti-hero.’ And I was like, ‘What? You can t just go do this.’I ve had a lot of ideas presented. I ve thought my own self, like, ‘What can I do more in a satire type of way?’ Because I never could imagine getting the rights to do Johnny Lawrence again. And after The Karate Kid with Jaden Smith came out, I felt like it was really all over. Like, ‘It s moved on.’ … This, it just felt right. And I said, ‘What s the next step?’ They said, ‘Well, we have to go convince Ralph Macchio.’ I said, ‘OK.’”“Oh, crap, I hope this works.”Macchio: “They flew to New York. We met down in Tribeca area, and we spent more than a couple hours. They led off with talking about the themes. They were very focused. I could tell they were nervous, but Hayden, he started right away, and says, Bullying. I would love to have the footage of their pitch to Billy, to convince him, and their pitch to me, because they were different. They didn t start off saying, ‘We want to do the Johnny Lawrence story about Cobra Kai and make him the hero of the story.’ They started talking about themes, so credit them. They did a great job. They were also very well-versed in what they wanted to do, the angle. And they did tell me the title of the show. They weren t trying to say, ‘Oh, it s not gonna be that.’ I knew what it was.My biggest question was they were pitching it as a comedy. I said, ‘Well, where s the funny? What s the tone?’ That was the main question, and where s the Miyagi-isms, and how is that going to be woven into it? Because if it s not, then I m not interested. I need for it to have balance, if you will, across the board of the Karate Kid universe, even though the angle in from the Johnny Lawrence story is super smart.(Photo by YouTube Premium)I felt that they were the guys. I knew from Hot Tub Time Machine and Harold and Kumar that they knew [the humor]. I believed they could write for a young generation and humor and great teen dialogue, which I felt was really important for the show to have that. That s really shedding light in going to season 2 and beyond, because we have this great young cast. I needed to digest it all, but I believed that they were the guys. They wanted to make the show the fans wanted to see, because they were those kids. And then timing: 15 [or] 10 years ago there was no YouTube or Netflix, or a place where you could take a five, six-hour movie and cut it up into parts. We shoot this show and each season is like a full-on movie that you just cut up. You allow the characters to breathe and delve into gray areas, and it s not just so black-and-white and leading to one big quick climax two hours later. All those things together got me to the place of saying, ‘OK, let s do this.’ But not without me closing my eyes, holding my breath, and saying, ‘Oh, crap, I hope this works.’ Now we seem like the two smartest guys in the world.”“We hadn t done this for 35-some years  all of sudden, he walks in and it was just on.”Zabka: “My first scene was with Ed Asner, so how s that for day 1 on a show: working with a legend? It s the scene when I walk in and Ed Asner s in my refrigerator. So they just started me at full speed, and it was great, and he was great — I mean really great. What an honor. It felt like he kissed the show in a way, and he blessed it in a way, by his presence being there. It just felt like wow, we re way up here.”(Photo by YouTube Premium)Macchio: “Our first scene together is still one of my favorites in the Cobra Kai series. The first scene I shot was at the end of episode 2, where LaRusso comes into the Cobra Kai dojo and it s a little stare-down, and they question each other, and it just sets up the entire series. That scene was magic, man. We worked together in a film 30-plus years ago, and we ve been friends for years. But that level of chemistry that we have, I didn t know that it was there at the level that it s now turned out to be. It s just a reminder that this project, be it The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai, has some element that the bar just gets raised and we deliver. I m proud of it.”Zabka: “We hadn t done this for 35-some years now, right? And all of sudden, he walks in and it was just on, and everything else was gone, and it was these two characters exist again in this setting. We walked away. We re like, ‘Wow, there s something really happening.’”“It s warm and wonderful and bittersweet. Pat would ve loved this.”Macchio: “All the time, I think about Pat and his performance. Listen, we re not making the show without Pat Morita s performance as Mr. Miyagi, because that s one of the things that elevated that film to what it is today. They re big shoes to fill. I mean, LaRusso has a line like that early in season 2 — he looks at a picture of Miyagi and says, ‘Boy, I ve got big shoes to fill.’He learns very soon that just because you have knowledge of a subject doesn t necessarily mean you can teach it. And Mr. Miyagi was a magical type character who had a special touch, and LaRusso is learning that he might not have that — or he has to find his own. View this post on Instagram Shooting a poignant Miyagi-influenced scene on @cobrakaiseries then, moments later a surprise visit from Pat Morita’s daughter, Aly makes this one of the most memorable days on the show. All the feels from above and beyond. Another stroke of Miyagi Magic graces the day. Thanks, Aly 🙂 And as always, thank you, Pat. 🙏🥋A post shared by ralph_macchio (@ralph_macchio) on Oct 24, 2018 at 9:47am PDT

urth highest-grossing film of the year, and it certainly has its eye on third place. Second, however, could take a bit of work. Last weekend with an opening that rose above 0 million, the fourth Toy Story was ahead of the third film in the franchise by about million. At the end of this weekend, it is still ahead of Toy Story 3’s pace by about million even if it trails weekend two of part three .3 million to .9 million. Toy Story 3 had a run that did not see a drop of 50 percent until its 13th weekend. Part four dropped 52 percent this weekend, but also had farther to fall. The 2010 chapter fell 46.2 percent and 49 percent in its second and third weekends. Meanwhile, Toy Story 4 sits at 6 million domestic and 6 million worldwide; the sixth-highest total of 2019 to date. Of the 14 films to gross between 0-250 million after 10 days, only three of them (The Hunger Games, Spider-Man, and Toy Story 3) broke the 0 million domestic mark, but Toy Story 4 remains on track.Fresh Surprise: Yesterday Poised To Be One of Danny Boyle’s Highest Grossers(Photo by Universal Pictures)It may sound surprising to some, but Yesterday actually represents the best opening of director Danny Boyle’s career. Then again, it is only the fourth film in his career — on that has included Transpotting, 127 Hours, and Slumdog Millionaire — to open wide its first weekend. The last film of his to do that was 28 Days Later back in 2003, and it earned million. The Beach in 2000 was his previous high with .2 million, even if it remains his lowest scored film on the Tomatometer at 20% and just one of two Rotten films (including A Life Less Ordinary) in his filmography. With a 59% rating currently, Yesterday teeters on the edge of Fresh, but Universal is very likely more interested in the film s million start. (The studio partnered with Boyle on 2015’s Steve Jobs, which opened strong in four theaters but ultimately grossed just .7 million total.) Boyle’s Oscar-winning Slumdog is his crowning box office achievement with over 1 million, but it is also just one of three of his films to gross over million. Yesterday will be the fourth. Will the million–budgeted film have enough word-of-mouth to pass The Beach’s million?Top 10 and Beyond: Latest Annabelle Film Lags the First Two(Photo by New Line Cinema)Annabelle Comes Home opened this past Wednesday to .18 million. As of Sunday, it is estimated to have made .2 million, which is relatively low all things considered. Of the previous Wednesday openers that began with million or more, 47 Ronin (.61 million), Rocky Balboa (.85), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (.36), and Magic Mike XXL (.89) were the only ones this century to not have million by Sunday. Annabelle Comes Home is the next-lowest after that with The First Purge coming in at .28 million. The first Annabelle made .11 million in its first five days. Annabelle: Creation made .15 million. They both opened on Fridays. Those other three films grossed million to million domestic. The million production has already grossed over million globally, so it is going to be just fine.Eight of the top 10 films this week are either sequels or remakes. John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum is approaching 0 million worldwide. It is also Keanu Reeves’ third highest–grossing live-action film after the first two Matrix films. Illuminations’ The Secret Life of Pets 2 has not picked up any international steam yet and is only at 8 million worldwide. Its path is similar to that of this summer’s Pokemon Detective Pikachu and is headed for somewhere between 1 million and 4 million — or, less than 0 million domestically below the first film. Men in Black International is doing better internationally, but much more poorly here. It is only at 9 million worldwide and still needs another 1 million to break even. The remake of Child’s Play cost 0 million less than MIBI, but is not exactly setting the box office on fire either after dropping 70 percent in its second weekend and stands at million.Far more successful is Paramount’s Rocketman. The million production has made over million domestic and 1 million worldwide — 0 million may be off the table now but it remains on track to exceed million. Disney’s Aladdin has crossed 0 million domestically, and its 4 million globally puts it in 63rd place all-time. It needs another million to break into the top 50.Lastly, we have the Avengers: Endgame record watch. Returning to theaters this weekend with new footage not seen in its first nine weeks, the Marvel title made another .9 million. At .76 billion worldwide, it is now million shy of Avatar’s all-time record. This Time Last Year: Dinos Superheroes Emerge Victorious(Photo by Universal Pictures)Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom had no challengers and won the box office for a second straight weekend with .9 million. Incredibles 2 also had nothing to threaten its second-place finish with .4 million, bringing its total to over 0 million. The best the week could offer was the sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which opened in third with million. Also opening was the basketball comedy, Uncle Drew, which finished fourth with .2 million. The lackluster numbers below that title opened the door for Hindi film Sanju to finish in eighth place with .72 million. The Top 10 totaled 7.20 million and averaged 63% on the Tomatometer. This year’s Top 10 grossed an estimated 5.14 million and averaged 69%.On the Vine: Spider-Man Hopes for Avengers Bump, While Midsommar Chases Critical Acclaim(Photo by Sony Pictures)The next chapter of the MCU arrives when Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Will this film receive the same kind of box office bump that got Iron Man 3 over 0 million as the first one out of the gate after the success of the 2012 Avengers film? It currently has a 91% on the Tomatometer. (Spider-Man: Homecoming has a 92%, opened at 7 million, and went on to make 0 million worldwide.)Then Ari Aster returns with a new horror epic after the praise of last year’s debut, Hereditary, one of the 10 best-reviewed horror films of the decade. Based on the 85% that Midsommar has received so far, Aster (like Jordan Peele) has a shot to own two films on that list. The Full Top 10: June 28-30Toy Story 4 (2019) 97% – .93 million (6.92 million total)Annabelle Comes Home (2019) 65% – .37 million (.20 million total)Yesterday (2019) 63% – million ( million total)Aladdin (2019) 57% – .34 million (5.86 million total)The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019) 60% – .09 million (1.20 million total)Men in Black: International (2019) 23% – .55 million (.00 million total)Avengers: Endgame (2019) 94% – .53 million (1.31 million total)Child's Play (2019) 64% – .27 million (.40 million total)Rocketman (2019) 89% – .87 million (.17 million total)John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum (2019) 89% – .17 million (1.31 million total) The 71st annual Emmy Awards ceremony on Sunday was entertaining in spite of itself. Garish moments and excruciatingly unfunny running commentary threatened to overshadow some stunning upsets and heartfelt speeches. The Fox presentation, which scored a 0% on the Tomatometer on its first reviews, will hopefully go down as a teaching moment: Don t replace professional hosts with Statler and Waldorf–like heckling. (Actually, the program might ve gotten away with the discount-hosting format had they hired those grumpy Muppets instead.) There were some genuinely shocking and deserving winners, Caroline Framke wrote forVariety. These moments were good enough to almost, almost, distract from the fact that just around the corner from these unscripted reprieves lurked some new cringe-inducing bit. Here are the moments that stood out in a night of big highs in a show that set the bar low.1. The Surprise Dominance of Fleabag and Phoebe Waller-Bridge(Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)British actress-writer-producer Waller-Bridge was visibly floored when her name was read out as winner for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for her work on Fleabag in one of the night s biggest upsets. Veep’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has won the award six times for her part as Selina Meyer, was the favorite to win for her final season in the role. Waller-Bridge also won for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Episode 1 of the Amazon Prime Video series, joining Tina Fey who won both acting and writing awards in 2008 for her work on 30 Rock. Harry Bradbeer won the Outstanding Director for a Comedy Series award for his work on the same episode.  Fleabag also took the Outstanding Comedy Series award over contenders like Veep and last year s winner The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The series also won awards for casting and editing for a total of six Emmys this year.2. Alex Borstein s Acceptance Speech for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series(Photo by Amy Sussman/WireImage)Borstein dedicated her award to strong women in her life, including Amy Sherman-Palladino, the women on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel cast and crew, her mother, and her Holocaust-survivor grandmother: “My grandmother turned to a guard – she was in line to be shot into a pit – and she said, ‘What happens if I step out of line?’ And he said, ‘I don’t have the heart to shoot you, but somebody will.’ And she stepped out of line, and for that, I am here, and for that, my children are here, so step out of line, ladies. Step out of line!”3. Jharrel Jerome Wins As Central Park 5 Look On(Photo by Amy Sussman/WireImage)The 21-year-old actor not only defeated some major players in his category, he is also the youngest-ever winner to take home the Lead Actor in a Limited Series trophy. But more importantly, the subjects of When They See Us, which tackled the story of the Central Park 5 (a.k.a. the five teenagers who were wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for a 1989 rape they didn t commit), were present in the audience as Jerome accepted his award. This is for the men that we now know as the Exonerated Five, he said as Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise (the role Jerome played), who spent years in prison and whose convictions were vacated in 2002, watched on.READ ALSO: 2019 Emmy Award Winners4. Patricia Arquette Dedicates Her Win to Trans Women(Photo by Amy Sussman/WireImage)The last time Patricia Arquette won a major award (an Oscar, NBD), she used her time on stage to lobby for equal pay for women. This time, she dedicated her statue for her role on Hulu s The Act to her late sister, Alexis Arquette, and to trans women around the world.“I just have to say I m grateful to be working. I m grateful at 50 to be getting the best parts of my life and that s great. But in my heart, I’m so sad I lost my sister Alexis and that trans people are still being persecuted,” she said during in her speech. “I m in mourning, Alexis, and I will be the rest of my life for you until we change the world, until trans people are not persecuted. And give them jobs. They re human beings — let s give them jobs let’s get rid of this bias that we have everywhere. 5. Billy Porter for the Win!(Photo by FREDERIC J. The category is Love ! declared Porter as he took the stage, referencing Tell s ball-starting catchphrase from the show.
