As more and more people are compelled to practice social distancing and encouraged to stay home, as movie theaters temporarily shutter their doors, and as studios continue to pull their scheduled 2020 films off the release calendar, we ve decided to reformat this weekly Critics Consensus column to focus on titles that are newly available on the home entertainment market. With that in mind, our list of digital new releases this week includes a fresh-from-the-theaters Pixar movie, the latest Star Wars adventure, a Razzie-winning Broadway adaptation, and a trio of brand new theatrical releases that are being made digitally available way ahead of schedule. See below for the most notable titles hitting VOD this week. Pride Month may be ending in a few days, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop celebrating. Rotten Tomatoes asked the cast and creatives of some of our favorite LGBTQ+-centered series — including The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken, Pose creator Steven Canals, Vida creator Tanya Saracho, activist/Pose director and writer Janet Mock, and Pose star Mj Rodriguez — to reveal what their personal favorite LGBTQ+ television shows are, and why. Here’s their curated list so you can keep celebrating LGBTQ+ contributions to pop culture all year long.Like this? It’s the television game-changer of the moment. It’s spectacular in every way. Those two women both as actresses and characters are stunning. Jodie Comer is my new favorite sexy twisted hero villainess. And it’s just – what can I say? The added bonus is Fiona Shaw, who, on the show, is playing this wicked character but she is also just an icon in gay, elevated, acting royalty.Tanya Saracho: Killing Eve is inspired storytelling. I will continue to love it for its complicated, flawed and morally ambiguous protagonists. I choose to disregard [star Sandra] Oh s comments about this not being a lesbian story and will take it for what I think it is: A f ked-up queer tale of love and obsession.Noah’s ArcSteven Canals: Noah s Arc is a really great one. It s one of the few shows I can think of that centers queer black men.Mj Rodriguez: When Noah s Arc came out, that slayed for me. It was the validation. And also there were trans women on that show. Granted, they were featured, or they were guests, or they were background, but they were still there and that s what really made me feel good.American Horror Story 77%Ilene Chaiken: Ryan Murphy delivers for me in American Horror Story. In everything he does he delivers. Nobody tells our stories and portrays us and provokes us in the way he does, but American Horror Story is my favorite because he does genre, and genre gets at us in such a profound way.Vida 100%Janet Mock: I love Vida. I love what Tanya has done with that series. I love how much deeper they go in season 2 — I watched it in a day and a half. I love a half-hour drama. I think that she s doing such important work. I love those actors so much. I love the world that s there. That s literally right over here, right, a little east of us where we re at right now. And so yeah, I love that series and I hope that more people watch it and support it.Pose 98%Tanya Saracho: Pose is necessary television. And it s overdue. It s a beautiful thing to see all those brown and black faces on screen, living their truest lives. Will & Grace Mj Rodriguez: Now granted, there were no trans women on that show at all, but it was still representation of the LGBT community. And I can only relate to it somewhat because I mean, it was an all-white cast.Sense8 86%Ilene Chaiken: Maybe it never found the audience that it should have, although I know it has some very devoted fans. It’s a beautiful work of art, something we don’t often see on television. It works as story, but it works as just ethereal, ephemeral, profound art.Gentleman Jack 90%Tanya Saracho: I m crazy about Gentleman Jack (and that top hat!). I love everything about the show; the aesthetic, the tone, the story — but mainly, Ms. Suranne Jones. She took her character, Anne Lister, through the emotional paces from cheeky breaks of the fourth wall to stirring exploration of what it meant to be queer in a time when that was a viscerally dangerous thing.Orphan Black 93%Ilene Chaiken: Even if there hadn’t been gay and trans clones, I still would’ve said it was a gay show, but it’s just progressive, it’s subversive, it’s brilliant, and also, and really important for me, I have been looking for gay genre shows, or for genre shows that feature gay characters and gay themes forever and ever and Orphan Black finally delivered for me.Orange Is the New Black 90%Mj Rodriguez: Laverne Cox is like my sister, and she was the one who broke down that door and opened the space up for us to come on in and take our craft seriously. One Day at a Time 99%Tanya Saracho: I heart One Day at a Time so much. Elena and Syd s beautiful relationship is poignant and bold and so now. I love how they love. The Rachel Maddow ShowIlene Chaiken: And also Anderson Cooper, but Rachel Maddow in particular. Where else do we look for icons, for just a touchstone to our own rage and hope and truth?

2. 公平游戏环境
With studios and distributors loading up on a pre-launch campaign against Disney’s dominance at the box office – something that will be amplified with next week’s release of The Lion King – there were not a lot of alternatives for moviegoers to get behind this weekend. Marvel and Pixar both led the way again and the two newcomers could barely combine to beat the film in second place. For those in a Chicken Little panic over supposed dwindling ticket sales this year, this weekend certainly gave fuel to that fire with the top 10 films adding up to the lowest July weekend total since 2009.King of the Crop: Spider-Man Not Far From the Billion Club (Photo by © Columbia Pictures / © Marvel Studios/ Courtesy Everett Collection)Spider-Man: Far From Home took the lead again to no surprise for a second straight week. With 9.2 million on Thursday, it ranked as the 32nd highest-grossing film ever after 10 days in theaters. However, the drop to .3 million this weekend has put its numbers closer to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 than many of the top-tier MCU films. Raimi’s film had 5.1 million after 10 days and a .1 million second weekend. It finished its run with 3.5 million. Spider-Man: Homecoming made .2 million in its second weekend. Just remember that Far From Home also had a Tuesday opening (and the biggest one of all-time). Amongst the 35 films to have reached 5 million domestic, only Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Titanic, and Frozen made less in their second weekends than Far From Home. (Titanic’s .4 million in 1997 would be about .5 million today.) Worldwide the film has grossed over 7 million and will soon become the ninth film of the MCU to gross over a billion dollars.Rotten Returns: Stuber Disappoints with Million Start(Photo by Mark Hill/ © TM & copyright © Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp.)Stuber may not be a mega-budgeted production at million, but unless you are a true indie or working under the Blumhouse margin, an million opening is just not going to cut it. Thirty six films in 2019 have opened in 3,000 theaters or more and only Missing Link (.9 million) and Fox’s The Kid Who Would Be King (.1 million) – both Certified Fresh at 89% on the Tomatometer, incidentally – grossed less in their opening weekends. (A Dog’s Journey made .03 million.) Stuber, with a Tomatometer score of 46% currently, joins Winnie the Pooh, Ramona and Beezus, Monte Carlo, and Katy Perry: Part of Me as the films this past decade to open between million and million in July. They all posted final tallies between .1 million and .7 million. None of those films were rated “R” though.Top 10 and Beyond: Crawl Takes Small Bite as Disney Offerings Show LegsToy Story 4 crossed the 0 million line worldwide this weekend. Plus, the once-dubbed “disappointment” from burned analysts is only the 23rd highest-grossing film ever after 24 days with over 6 million at the domestic box office. Though the film is right in line with Toy Story 3’s fourth weekend of million, it did slip slightly behind during the week from being million ahead of the third film’s pace to just around million. No worries, however, as it is still on pace for a 0 million haul in North America. The fim is over 1 million worldwide. To finish up the Disney dominance news this week, their live-action version of Aladdin has officially become one of the 50th highest-grossing films of all-time in the world with over 0 million. The Lion King is already gearing up to join that list having grossed .7 million in China this weekend. Then, of course, Avengers: Endgame grabbed an additional .8 million across the globe and is now less than million away from capturing Avatar’s all-time record with .780 billion.(Photo by © Paramount Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection)Over to the horror side of the top 10, Paramount chose not to screen Alexandre Aja’s alligator horror film, Crawl, for critics this week. Nevertheless those that reviewed it gifted it with an 88% on the Tomatometer and it s already Certified Fresh. It may have bested Stuber for the newcomer crown this weekend, but its million start is not entirely a cause for celebration, even with just a .5 million budget. That is more than the .9 million that another mid-July alligator film called Lake Placid opened to back in 1999. That film would have opened to about .7 million in today’s dollars and finished with .7 million. The smart money is on Crawl finishing with less, unless word-of-mouth – which again, is good – pushes it further.Ari Aster’s Midsommar has .4 million after 12 days, which puts it between fellow Wednesday openers No Escape, the 2015 terrorist thriller, and the 2004 remake of Around the World in 80 Days. That may suggest a finish in the - million range. Except Midsommar’s .5 million weekend was less than either of theirs. The film would need .2 million to pass A24’s first wide opener, The Witch, for fifth place on their all-time chart. Midsommar is nevertheless going to finish no worse than right behind it in sixth place with more than The Disaster Artist’s .1 million. Annabelle Comes Home is now over million, placing the film firmly between the third weekend grosses and totals of The First Purge (.10 million, .48 million) and Rocky Balboa (.01 million, .27 million), so figure a final tally in there while it currently stands at over 3 million worldwide – far less than either of the previous films but more than enough to turn a profit.Coincidences in box office are always fun to find and this week’s example comes with Danny Boyle’s Yesterday, which has become the director’s second highest-grossing film ever. That has nothing to do with coincidence though. Actually the .75 million it grossed this weekend and a total at .3 million puts the film in league with another tale of a singer from the U.K. that opened in June and was released by Universal some nine years ago. That film was Get Him To The Greek. It grossed .1 million in its third weekend and had .8 million after 17 days on its way to .9 million. On the Specialty Box Office: The Farewell Shows Signs of Being a Breakout HitFinally, in limited release news, Bleecker Street’s The Art of Self-Defense (Certified Fresh at 92%) grossed 1,000 in seven theaters. That per-theater-average of ,285 is just a bit less than Late Night’s ,593 average in 14 theaters when it first opened. Amazon expanded that film into over 2,200 theaters in weekend two and it has grossed more than million to date. Bleecker will expand Art into over 500 theaters next weekend and it is the ninth film in Bleecker’s history (out of 32 releases) to score 90% or higher on the Tomatometer. But the developing story may be that of Lulu Wang’s The Farewell, with Awkwafina. One of the most beloved films out of Sundance this year grossed 1,330 this weekend in just four theaters. That is the 15th best opening ever for a film launched in just four venues and the third best for A24. Moonlight (2,075) and Lady Bird (4,437) opened just a bit stronger and they, respectively, rank third and first amongst all A24 releases. The Farewell also maintains a perfect Certified Fresh score of 100% on the Tomatometer. It is the 28th A24 film to score 90% or higher out the distributor s 77 releases. This Time Last Year: Hotel Transylvania 3 Bests Skyscraper(Photo by © Sony Pictures Releasing)Adam Sandler’s ghoulish animated series showed no signs of wavering as Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation got its first taste of the box office outside of September and opened at number 1 with million. Ant-Man and the Wasp dropped 61% to second place, but that was still good enough to keep back Dwayne Johnson’s attempt at Die Hard in Skyscraper, which opened to just .9 million. In limited release, Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade opened to 3,797 in just four theaters. The Top 10 films grossed 4.03 million and averaged 67.7% on the Tomatometer. This year’s Top 10 did an estimated 3.04 million and averaged 66.9%. It was actually the lowest Top 10 total for a weekend in July since the July 31-August 2, 2009 weekend when Funny People led the way with .65 million and a top 10 total of 7.14 million.

City of God is kinetic and visceral. The active camerawork is gorgeous. City of God really did try to find those moments where we can pause and view these characters without any judgment. No character in City of God is black-and-white. There are moments when, even though we know some of these dudes are ruthless killers, they show us little hints that showcase their youth and make it clear to us that they re still 16-, 17-, 18-years-old at the end of the day. One scene in particular I remember is Li l Zé. He was this ruthless overlord, but he gets turned down at that dance party. And you just see his face where he s smiling at first, and then you just see the embarrassment wash over him. Oh my God! Literally everyone in the world knows that moment; everyone in the world knows what it s like to get rejected. But considering that we ve seen this man brutally kill people at this point, I think it s so interesting how the filmmaker also never intended for you to judge those characters. But he also never wanted to give a romanticized view of their life. He wanted you to fully understand how difficult and horrifying some of those realities can be. City of God is a masterpiece.Really quick though, I also want to take the time, and give a special mention to Ava DuVernay s work. Ava makes the most culturally important work of our time as a filmmaker. 13th is what taught the entire world that we re essentially living in a re-engineered version of slavery. Ava is committed to promoting awareness. Outside of her being an extraordinarily talented filmmaker, she makes incredibly formative and culturally impactful work. I just want to shout her out as well.

The Invisible Man (2020) 91% Once upon a time, Universal Pictures had plans for a so-called Dark Universe, in which the studio hoped to reboot all of its classic monster movies and bring the characters together in a united storyline akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, after the mediocre performance of 2014 s Dracula Untold prompted a soft reset of the franchise, 2017 s The Mummy officially halted those plans when it also debuted to dismal box office returns and even worse reviews, forcing Universal to rethink their strategy entirely. The solution? Stick to standalone films, at least for the time being. That brings us to this week s The Invisible Man, a new take on the classic H.G. Wells novel that shifts the focus from the titular character to the woman he terrorizes. Elisabeth Moss is the woman in question, an architect trapped in an abusive relationship with a brilliant but controlling scientist, who finally finds the courage to flee the relationship, only to learn her ex has committed suicide. Or has he? Is he the one stalking her from the shadows and breathing down her neck? And if he is, who will believe her? Critics say The Invisible Man is a smartly written thriller that tackles timely themes but also provides sufficient spectacle, and it benefits from a magnetic performance from Moss in the lead. The Dark Universe may be no more, but if Universal continues to make films of this caliber, they may be onto something after all.

Ghcxuf The Watch star Richard Dormer grew up reading the work of author Terry Pratchett, whose Discworld books form the basis for the series. Although, as he told Rotten Tomatoes during a recent interview, his regular diet was interrupted, ironically enough, just after the first City Watch novel, Guards! Guards!, was released. I went to drama school, I was about 17, and I gave the book to a classmate and I never got to find out about Sam Vimes, he said. Now 30-odd years later, Dormer stars as Vimes in the BBC America program. The premise sees Vimes as the captain of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, a police force in a city where organized crimes guilds are more-or-less legalized. The toothlessness of the Watch leaves Vimes plenty of time to drink while his subordinates — werewolf Angua (Marama Corlett), female-presenting dwarf Cheery (Joe Eaton-Kent), and troll Detritus (Ralph Ineson) — wrangle loose chickens and other small-time miscreants not licensed to commit crime. As the series begins, new recruit Carrot (Adam Hugill) arrives with a very different impression of the Watch s purpose, while the sudden appearance of a dragon in Ankh-Morpork forces Sam to be a lawman once again. And if that wasn t enough trouble for the Watch Captain, a ghost from Sam Vimes past turns up and pulls the world out from underneath him, Dormer added. It s the loose threads of Guards! Guards! with various characters (and character names) from later novels subbed in as the show takes great pains to remind viewers it s not directly based on any one novel. Sadly for readers, this means Nobby Nobbs will be waiting in the wings a little longer, but Death (voiced by Wendell Pierce) will make a few appearances in the sprawling city.(Photo by Hayden Phipps/BBCA)For Dormer, discovering Vimes from the inside out was a chance to see the qualities which endeared him to readers in a whole new way. He s pretty broken [at the start], he said.  Something happened to him 20 years ago that broke his soul, his spirit, his belief in human beings and in himself. Despite that sense of being fractured (and for reasons that are different from the novels), Vimes still does something noble in assembling the Watch s current roster. He doesn t see color or religion [in our sense of the terms]. If you re a werewolf, as long as you ve got a good heart, you re in. If you re a troll, who cares, as long as you re a good person, Dormer explained. He doesn t realize it, but he s actually a facilitator and able to bring together these unique people to create something that will, ultimately, change the world. Of course, that change is not easy to deal with sometimes — particular for Vimes, who vacillates between a drunken stupor and something Pratchett termed as knurd, a soberness beyond soberness. When we wake up and we see the world for what it is, Dormer explained. We re all intoxicated in some way by something, whether it be social media, whether it be the news — fake news — all these things that we see around us, we re all numbed to the reality of the world. Vimes is cursed with the ability to see [the world] with a clear head and wipe away everything that s in there and declutter, [he] sees things for what they truly are, and it s not easy, the actor said.If not for the circumstances of the city s leadership, Vimes could be an effective town sheriff. For one thing, as Dormer put it, he can tell where he is anywhere in Ankh-Morpork by just the feel of the cobblestones through the worn, thin soles of his boots. And, for another, he has that golden gut TV detectives often rely on.(Photo by Ilze Kitshoff/BBCA)It is those qualities, Dormer surmised, that appeal to Lady Sybil Ramkin (Lara Rossi), a member of the city s aristocracy who comes to associate with the Watch as events unfold. According to the actor, she is this extraordinary creature  [who] completely challenges his whole worldview and his view of himself. Like the other characters, she has been remixed for the series — more of a vigilante than an eccentric breeder of small dragons — but she enables him to look around him and see that actually, he s not alone and forsaken and useless. Nevertheless, Vimes still spends plenty of time in his cups, which presented Dormer with a unique acting challenge: As an actor, your mind s got to be crystal clear, because you re spinning plates. You re reacting to people, you re living in the moment of your own truth, but to do it with kind of a glassy-eyed thing where you can t actually focus on who you re talking to [is] a really good acting exercise, he explained.Dormer noted viewers also will see Vimes initial gnarled posture straighten out a bit as his outlook changes:  He starts to unfurl, and he almost starts to gain a little bit of height. One aspect of the performance which came naturally to Dormer, though, was the voice. While he admitted it is easy to imagine Vimes with more of a London quality, the producers wanted Dormer to use something closer to his own Armagh accent. He described the opportunity to use something very close to his own voice as both delight and freer, noting, however, that in Discworld, there is no Northern Ireland There s no Scotland, or England, or America, it s just this landmass on a flat world. As in the novels, The Watch takes place in Pratchett s Discworld or, at least, a Discworld somewhere in the multiverse with a few stylistic changes.(Photo by Alex Telfer/BBC STUDIOS/BBCA)Eschewing the more medieval atmosphere described in the books, the look of The Watch is something Dormer describes more as punk rock, crazy, [and] irreverent. Beyond that aesthetic, a tinge of New Wave music and styling invades the proceedings, as does a certain sci-fi-by-way-of-magic feel. There is even a dash of the modern British police drama in some of the sets and costumes. It has hints of Terry Gilliam, and it s got that edginess, Dormer added. He also pointed to the spirit and tone of the 1980s comedy series The Young Ones, which revolved around four punk-leaning students living in a dilapidated flat, as something we tried to do with this. The liberties taken with the look of the show, its plot, the Watch s lineup, and just what happened to Vimes 20 years ago all proved controversial with fans of the author. I can understand. I do, I understand, Dormer said. I mean, I m a fan of Star Trek, I ve actually got communicators, phasers, I ve even got the costume. Nonetheless, he hopes Pratchett fans will still give the series a shot even if it doesn t match the Anhk-Morpork they envision in their heads. The version that we ve done — and I ve seen a lot of it — I m immensely proud of it, I can t imagine a different version of it. So I think what people have got to do is run with it. It s like meeting somebody new for the first time. They may look different from what you d imagined in your head, but that doesn t mean you re going to hate them, Dormer said. At first, I think I was a bit, Aww, I don t have chain mail and a truncheon and a silly metal hat,' he added, referring to the Night Watch gear the characters use in the novels. But soon, he was in love with the look of the costumes. Really now I look at it, and I think all of the characters, they look already iconic even though the show hasn t even gone into the world. I think that s a testament to the creative people, and everybody involved, that we ve created something I know that if I live for another 20 years, I ll look back and go, Wow, they couldn t do that now, and they couldn t have done it 30 years before it was done.' (Photo by Helen Sloan/courtesy of HBO)The Watch represents Dormer s second go with a notable character from a beloved author s fantasy series. He played the seemingly unkillable Beric Dondarrion on Game Of Thrones since its third season — a role he tends to get recognized for in airports or, as he joked, when I grow my beard and wear an eye patch. Reminiscing about his time in Westeros, Dormer recalled talking with author George R.R. Martin at the season 8 premiere about the nature of Beric as a Fire Wight. As outlined, Beric is as dead as any of the mindless ice zombies in the service of the Night King, but since he was reanimated with fire by Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye), he seemed more alive even if his heart never started beating again. During this conversation, Martin pointed out scenes in previous seasons where Beric was seen sleeping or drinking.Dormer had a perfect response: In order to make people comfortable, Beric will lie in the shadows, but his eye is always open. When you see him with a flask, he s not drinking, he s miming. Martin has since broached the topic of Fire Wights in some discussions of the Song of Ice and Fire novels, but it remains to be seen if it will effect the story of Beric s successor, Lady Stoneheart, for whom he sacrificed his unnatural life to save. 😈😈

Zac Efron is the talk of the Sundance Film Festival for his portrayal of serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. And, according to the first wave of reviews from Park City, it’s a career-changing performance. The rest of the movie around Efron, which is directed by renowned documentarian Joe Berlinger (Paradise Lost), seems to be dividing critics as to whether the Bundy biopic works – it s currently at 70% on the Tomatometer after 10 reviews. Depending on which critic you read, the biopic – which is approached from the perspective of Bundy’s girlfriend, played by Lily Collins – is either chillingly effective or uneven and tonally misguided. Here’s what the critics are saying about Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile:How great is Efron?“Efron is savagely convincing in the most psychologically-layered performance of his career.” Carlos Aguilar, The Wrap Efron is pretty pitch perfect here, delivering the best performance of his career thus far.” Adam Chitwood, Collider“It does the work of so many Sundance star turns, reframing an actor’s profile at perhaps a crux point in their career.” Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair“It’s a theatrical, absorbing performance.” Hannah Woodhead, Little White Lies“A scenery-chewing spectacle.” Jordan Raup, The Film Stage“Despite Efron’s conviction and good looks, he gives us an inscrutable Bundy that never pulls us in.” Tim Grierson, Screen International A stunt casting move that somewhat works, but just doesn’t always quite fit.” Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist(Photo by JA/Everett Collection)How is his co-star, Lily Collins?“Collins does a great job of keeping it all together with the character of Elizabeth, which is no easy task.” Adam Chitwood, Collider“[Efron is] matched at every turn by Lily Collins.” Chris Evangelista, Slashfilm“Against Efron’s juggernaut performance, Collins just can’t quite keep up.” Hannah Woodhead, Little White Lies“Collins is mostly captured in one-note takes of suffering.” Carlos Aguilar, The WrapAre there any other noteworthy performances?“John Malkovich is excellent as the sharp-tongued, theatrical judge.”  Chris Bumbray, Jo Blo’s Movie Emporium“Only Kaya Scodelario, deftly playing obsessed Bundy groupie Carole Anne Boone, transcends the material.” Carlos Aguilar, The Wrap“Scodelario is the weak link in an otherwise strong cast…she seems like she’s auditioning for Saturday Night Live rather than playing a real-life figure.” Chris Evangelista, Slashfilm(Photo by Courtesy of Sundance Institute | photo by Brian Douglas.)So how is the movie itself? “[It’s] a thought-provoking piece of cinema that avoids the easy temptation of shock value in favor of a more philosophical take on a diabolical murderer.” Carlos Aguilar, The Wrap“A curiosity even if it falters in what it intially sets out to accomplish.”- Jordan Raup, The Film Stage“The movie itself is only average…good enough to recommend.” Chris Bumbray, Jo Blo’s Movie Emporium“It’s a star vehicle that starts and ends with its star, the film around him struggling to justify its existence.” Benjamin Lee, The Guardian“[Berlinger] has, essentially, crafted the Bundy biopic that the convicted serial killer would have himself made.” Tim Grierson, Screen InternationalDoes the movie glamorize Bundy and his killings?“It’s the rare film about a criminal that offers human details without humanizing a man who so many agree was a monster.” Kate Erbland, IndieWire“The movie feels almost sympathetic to Bundy.” Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair“Extremely Wicked rings hollow and false and is really just as interested in the sensational and salacious as any other reductive thriller.” Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist“Extremely Wicked settles for glamorizing, yet again, a murderer who s been glamorized enough already.” Angie Han, Mashable“If the script by Michael Werwie had more restraint to focus solely on Kloepfer’s perspective, then his romanticization might have been more warranted.” Jordan Raup, The Film StageHow does the movie balance the material?“That sense of whiplash? It’s a feature, not a bug in Berlinger’s film.” Kate Erbland, IndieWire“[The] switch in narrative creates tonal problems, as Berlinger often goes for comedy – which seems all wrong for this type of story.”  Chris Evangelista, Slashfilm“[It’s] a film that wants to have it both ways, ultimately coming up short.” Jordan Raup, The Film Stage“The tone is objectionable, sometimes odious too…Berlinger simply wants to eat his cake and have it too and…it’s more than a little offensive.” Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist
