亚博网络平台采用百度引擎3(Baidu 9)Speaking of heart attacks and artists, how s TV development treating you? I mean you seem extraordinarily busy. Gaiman: I am, although, you know, a week from now on the 31st of May, Good Omens comes out and happens, and I get to retire as a showrunner. I guess I might have to come out of retirement if we get nominated for awards — just turn up at award dinners and things. But basically as far as I m concerned I made this thing that I promised Terry Pratchett I would make and now I m done. I don t have to be a showrunner anymore. I love talking all the things that I ve learned in the four years I ve been making Good Omens and getting to apply them to other things and getting to help other people make things. So you know, it s nice to be a producer of Gormenghast, for example, and I m very actually looking forward to seeing and helping Toby Whithouse along and looking forward to Toby going out to the world with his Gormenghast. I m looking forward to being more involved in adaptations of my own stuff coming up in the future, but I don t really want to write them again, I don t want to showrun again. I would really like to become a writer, and possibly even a novelist again.I hear you have some talent for that.Gaiman: As I’ve said, I will become a retired showrunner, and in my retirement, I may take up writing.(Photo by Amazon Prime)Good Omens looks like it was a blast to film. What was that experience like?Gaiman: It was a blast to film. Good Omens was fascinating because it was an incredibly long shoot. We were making Good Omens, I think we shot altogether for about 120 days, and it s a lot like making a 6-hour-long movie. And when we finished, it was then followed by 11 months of post-production, so that was long, long days, hard work, making something huge, but also — more by luck than anything else, because it just came down to me and director Douglas MacKinnon so much of the time — we wound up making something that feels very, very handmade and feels pretty personal. We got to make personal choices, and there wasn t anybody leaning over our shoulders saying, No you need this. You can t do that. Is that one of the joys of working with a streaming company?Gaiman: I think Amazon trusted us, which was great, and the BBC who were technically our producers, nobody had ever done anything like this before, and they didn t really know what it was, and they just left us alone to get on with it.Well, you can t argue with the result – it s a joy to watch your work come to life with such talented actors.Neil Gaiman: Thank you. I m so proud of it. I made the show for Terry Pratchett, he asked me to make it before he died, and then he died. I wanted to make a show that Terry would have loved, and make a show that Terry would have laughed at, but also that contained all of the ideas and the textures of Good Omens, and I think we did it.May I ask, what is going on with The Sandman? That s one I ve been really looking forward to.Gaiman: Sandman has been interesting, because for the last 30 years … people have failed to make all sorts of versions of Sandman because the time was not right. In the 90s people were going, “We don t know how to make a million R-rated film that would have any CGI in it that doesn t work for us,” and all of this kind of stuff. What s great about now is we ve reached an era in which the fact that there are well over 80 Sandman stories becomes a feature, it becomes an advantage, rather than a problem with how you cram all that into 120 minutes. So, we now have the CGI, we now have the technology, and we now have an adult audience, and we have millions upon millions of people who love Sandman and would love to see it. So I would be very, very surprised if we do not actually get some cool Sandman thing happening in the next two or three years. But then again, there have been many things over the years with Sandman where I ve gone, Ah, OK. Well, they re going to make this. And this is going to be great then. And it has never happened. So anything is possible.Good Omens debuts on Friday, May 31 on Amazon Prime.

While COVID-19 continues to impact the TV industry in big ways, talk show hosts try to keep giving us things to laugh about (including a brief comeback from Rosie O Donnell to help her fellow entertainers), Netflix gives us a new way to be socially less distant, and more in the week s top TV news.TOP STORYNetflix Party Makes It Possible to Have a Group Bingewatch (and Not Just a Virtual One)(Photo by Chris Haston/NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images via Getty Images)Binge-watching episodes of The Office for the 37th time just got more fun. Thanks to a new Google Chrome extension called Netflix Party (available here), you can have movie nights and group TV viewing parties of your favorite Netflix programming. And not only does the extension allow you to watch programming at the same time on your computers, but Netflix Party also features a chat room, so you can quote Michael Scott’s wackiest words to each other, or debate whether or not “Scott’s Tots” is the worst Office episode of all time. We kid. There’s no debate. It is absolutely the worst Office episode of all time.Hopefully you stashed away plenty of snack fare, because COVID-19 social distancing just got the tiniest bit more bearable.Update: Netflix also announced that the company has created a 0 million emergency support fund for entertainment industry workers. Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement:The Covid-19 crisis is devastating for many industries, including the creative community. Almost all television and film production has now ceased globally leaving hundreds of thousands of crew and cast without jobs. These include electricians, carpenters, drivers, hair and makeup artists and more, many of whom are paid hourly wages and work on a project-to-project basis. This community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economic support they will provide. So we’ve created a 0 million fund to help with hardship in the creative community. Most of the fund will go towards support for the hardest hit workers on our own productions around the world. We’re in the process of working out exactly what this means, production by production. This is in addition to the two weeks pay we’ve already committed to the crew and cast on productions we were forced to suspend last week.Beyond helping workers on our own productions, we also want to support the broader film and television industry. So million of the fund will go to third parties and non-profits providing emergency relief to out-of-work crew and cast in the countries where we have a large production base.Netflix will provide million each to the SAG-AFTRA Covid-19 Disaster Fund, the Motion Picture and Television Fund, and the Actors Fund Emergency Assistance in the U.S., and million between the AFC and Fondation des Artistes. Additional allocations worldwide will be announced next week.Lord of the Rings, The Witcher Among the Latest Coronavirus-Related Production HaltsAmazon Prime s The Lord of the Rings series was shut down March 16, according to a memo acquired by The New Zealand Herald. This is done in an environment where travel restrictions directed at the control of Covid-19 are issued daily by New Zealand and most other countries we are doing this to minimise stress on the resources and infrastructures around us by doing our part to reduce population density in our communities and daily activities, in efforts to help reduce the spread of the virus, the memo read in part.Netflix similarly shut down production on season 2 of The Witcher for two weeks, Deadline reported, noting that crew will continue to be paid during the hiatus. The show is filmed around 40 miles west of London at Arborfield Studios. Meanwhile, another Netflix production, The Crown was so near completion on season 4 that filming continued this week; though the production wrapped early, according to EW.Plus, that Friends reunion special that was going to be a highlight of HBO Max’s debut month in May might have to wait. THR.com reports the show, which will feature Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer getting together for an unscripted celebration of the 10-season sitcom, was scheduled to tape next week, but now could be pushed off for a May tape date, because of coronavirus concerns. HBO Max will be the streaming home for the series when it launches. In other coronavirus-related TV rescheduling news:American Idol suspended production and sent contestants home for now. The week’s top shows: NCIS with 10.7 million viewers, 60 Minutes with 10.4, Young Sheldon with 8.8, The Voice with 8.7, and The Bachelor with 8.4.But The New York Times warns that while social distancing has led to an uptick in viewers across network, cable, and streaming services, as the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic grows, viewers could soon be looking to cut the cord and cancel their streaming subscriptions.Talk Shows Keep the Home Fires Burning on DigitalJimmy Fallon is also promising a nightly YouTube version of The Tonight Show: Home Edition, with his wife as camera person, songs and jokes, a spotlight on a different charity each night, and guest appearances by his kids. Hobbs Shaw actually had an opening that both Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham can brag is higher than any of their previous starring vehicles, but as part of this particular franchise, its domestic numbers are not nearly as impressive.King of the Crop: Hobbs Shaw Leads Weekend But Trails Franchise Numbers(Photo by Universal)Fast Furious Presents: Hobbs Shaw opened to .8 million this weekend. That is higher than either Johnson’s San Andreas (.58 million) or Statham’s The Meg (.40 million), but it is lower than any of the films since 2009, when both Diesel and Paul Walker returned for the first time together back to the series. That started this cinematic phenomenon that began with a .95 million opening that increased to .19 million in 2011, then .37 in 2013. After Walker’s untimely death, the series had the same kind of bump in interest that The Dark Knight had in 2008. Nolan’s film opened to 8.41 million six months after Heath Ledger’s passing. After a delay in the release for Furious 7, it opened in April 2017 to the highest Tomatometer score in the series (81%) and a weekend of 7.18 million, which at the time was the ninth biggest opening ever. That opening is now 24th best, but it is still the eighth-highest ever worldwide with .516 billion. The Fate of the Furious was to continue its global dominance with .236 billion (good for 17th all-time – though will soon be passed by The Lion King) but its domestic gross of 6 million fell behind the sixth and seventh chapters. If Hobbs Shaw followed in sync with the rest of the series, it should have had no worse than the third-best August opening ever. Alas, it will have to settle for s

Here come the Men in Black again. More than 20 years after the MIB franchise began with the 1997 comic book adaptation starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and and seven years since the release of the previous installment, Men in Black: International arrives with new leads, Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth, and new locations. Will the reboot sequel kick off a new series of movies? Should it? Early reviews ahead of its release indicate the MIB should have stuck with just the original trilogy. It might not be as bad as Men in Black II (or is it?), but there’s apparently just no good reason for it to exist. Here’s what critics are saying about Men in Black International:Is this a worthy resurrection? In a sense, it kind of feels like the perfect sequel to the original Men in Black. It’s an entertaining movie made better by the people in it.  Beth Elderkin, io9[It’s] as much fun as a MIB movie should be but with an international spin and some updated swagger.  Sherin Nicole, idobi.comMen in Black International aims to erase any memory that you’ve seen all this before… the last time was a whole lot better.  Eric Kohn, IndieWireThere’s little here that justifies prolonging a series that should probably have been Neuralyzed a couple of movies ago.  Neil Smith, Total FilmThere’s just no reason why Men in Black needed to be revived here other than it exists in an era of eternal intellectual property revival.  David Crow, Den of GeekNothing in the film felt like a vital piece of the Men in Black puzzle.  Anne Cohen, Refinery29[Continues] the trend of reviving known properties past their expiration date… finding comfort in the familiar rather than creating a bold new vision.  Robert Daniels, 812filmreviews(Photo by Columbia Pictures)So it s just more of the same?More of the same just done with flashier effects. Robert Daniels, 812filmreviewsA bland variation on the same MiB routine…[a] baffling cash grab. Eric Kohn, IndieWireThere are enough new ideas in International to set it apart from previous films in the Men in Black franchise. Molly Freeman, ScreenRantIt doesn t go down the remake route… instead of retreads of scenes from the first movie, there are just nods to the franchise s tropes.  Ian Sandwell, Digital SpyBut it doesn t repeat what actually works in the earlier movies?International manages to fundamentally misunderstand practically everything that made the original film so endearing, and so enduring. Joe Skrebels, IGN MoviesThe Men in Black equivalent of a latter-day Die Hard sequel, a movie that succeeds its predecessors in name only and fundamentally misunderstands what made the original appealing. Todd Gilchrist, NerdistIs it memorable on its own?Instantly forgettable. Audiences may feel as if they’ve been instantly ‘neuralysed’ after watching it, but the experience is fun while it lasts. Geoffrey Macnab, IndependentYou can sit through it without much complaint, but you won’t need neuralysing to forget the whole thing an hour or two later. Tim Robey, Daily TelegraphIt’s an improvement over Men in Black II and Men in Black 3, sequels that even its makers may have forgotten. Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune(Photo by Columbia Pictures)How is the chemistry between Thompson and Hemsworth? The film lives and dies through Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson’s chemistry… these two must have had a lot of fun on set. Danielle Solzman, Solzy at the MoviesIt helps that [they] already established a kind of playfully combative dynamic in Thor: Ragnarok upon which it’s a pleasure to watch them build here. Peter Debruge, VarietyThe easy rapport is still there… [but] because it s a more by-the-book setup, it s slightly less interesting than the dynamic the actors had as Thor and Valkyrie. Molly Freeman, ScreenRantHemsworth and Thompson mine some easy chemistry, though never nearing the perfect alchemy of Smith and Jones before them. Dan Mecca, The Film StageDoes Tessa Thompson stand out?The best thing about the revamped Men in Black series is actually a woman… this is a fine and unexpected showcase for Thompson, whose poise and composure are notable. Todd McCarthy, Hollywood ReporterThe most satisfying thing about this outlandish extension of the MIB series comes from watching her step up to the challenge of co-headlining a blockbuster. Peter Debruge, VarietyShe’s simply interesting and funny and real, while also floating slightly above each new outsized absurdity… she lightens the load and keeps everything moving efficiently. Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune(Photo by Columbia Pictures)What about Chris Hemsworth? As he proved in 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot, Hemsworth has a natural comic talent that’s been under-exploited in most of his work. Peter Debruge, VarietyHere’s hoping he continues to play funny. Dan Mecca, The Film StageHemsworth has a little fun in the part, but he’s going at half-speed, like everything else. Roger Moore, Movie NationAgent H is basically Thor in a penguin suit. Eric Kohn, IndieWireHow are the villains?I was in awe every time [Les Twins] were onscreen, and their abilities were used to their fullest potential to make an incredibly vivid visual. Beth Elderkin, io9Instead of being horrified by the nasty new alien adversaries H and M are fighting, we’re left perplexed as to why there have now been three movies this year that feature shapeshifting visitors from imperiled planets. David Crow, Den of GeekRebecca Ferguson s fun cameo makes you wish that her alien arms dealer Riza was the main villain. Ian Sandwell, Digital SpyOf the assorted supporting players, Ferguson does the most, and has the most fun with limited screen time. Todd McCarthy, Hollywood ReporterRebecca Ferguson [is] incredible in this tiny role. Robert Daniels, 812filmreviews(Photo by Columbia Pictures)Is there another standout performance in the movie? The true standout is Kumail Nanjiani, putting in memorable voice work as sidekick Pawny…nearly every joke lands when delivered by the saucy little alien. Dan Mecca, The Film StageNanjiani s Pawny is a fun addition. Molly Freeman, ScreenRantHis one liners and matter-of-fact delivery are quotable and will keep you giggling. Sherin Nicole, idobi.comI liken his role to that of Frank in MIB 2 with the exception being that this is a much better film. Danielle Solzman, Solzy at the MoviesPawny’s the funniest creation in a movie that often doesn’t go far enough with its outlandish parade of bug-eyed creations. Eric Kohn, IndieWireNanjiani s tiny alien friend is cute comic relief, even if he feels like a deus ex-machina in the final act. Anne Cohen, Refinery29Is the movie funny? It’s telling the biggest laugh in the film is a direct reference to Hemsworth’s work as an Avenger. Joe Skrebels, IGN MoviesWhat works is what’s funny. Michael Phillips, Chicago TribuneThe jokes land right where they should. Sherin Nicole, idobi.com(Photo by Columbia Pictures)How are the action and special effects? The fight choreography and action sequences are solid… the alien designs in this movie are fantastic. Beth Elderkin, io9Any set pieces here work best when introducing multitudes of fun creatures as well as showing off top-notch set and prop design. Dan Mecca, The Film StageThe action set pieces are largely forgettable, with the exception of the design and powers of the alien adversaries. Molly Freeman, ScreenRant[F. Gary] Gray doesn’t share Barry Sonnenfeld’s skill for juggling live-action and visual effects… in terms of basic execution, Men in Black: International is a mess. Peter Debruge, VarietyWill we look forward to another installment?I’m already anticipating the next film in the series!… Men in Black: International brings a solid foundation for a new trilogy. Danielle Solzman, Solzy at the MoviesNothing demonstrates such constraints more than the film’s ending, which confusingly features an open-ended scene meant to bridge to another installment. Robert Daniels, 812filmreviewsMen in Black: International opens in theaters June 14, 2019.亚博网络平台All Tim Burton Movies RankedBorn in the morbid, decaying wonderland known as Burbank, California, visionary director Tim Burton showed a propensity for the dark arts from a young age, guiding him into a CalArts education, and then the prestigious honor of getting fired from Disney in the mid- 80s. The reasoning: Wasting company money animating things too scary to show kids. This only gave Burton the opportunity to let his imagination run unfettered on the big screen and, with the help of some choice partners-in-crime, produced one deranged hit after another: Pee-Wee s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, two Michael Keaton Batman movies, Edward Scissorhands. (And if you re later wondering why Nightmare Before Christmas isn t on this list, though he s often associated with the role, Burton is not credited as director on the film.)After perhaps his finest hour turning the cultural tide on the worst director ever with Ed Wood Burton has oscillated between pet project curios (Frankenweenie, Dark Shadows) and bombastic blockbusters, such as Alice in Wonderland, which made a lot of money for, appropriately enough, Disney. And with Edward Scissorhands celebrating its 30th anniversary, we re ranking all Tim Burton movies by Tomatometer!

For Margot Robbie, Birds of Prey (And the Fabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) has been a passion project five years in the making. Ahead of the movie’s release, Rotten Tomatoes correspondent Naz Perez sat down with Robbie to ask why she felt so connected to this character and why she worked so hard to bring her story to the big screen. Of course, Birds of Prey is a Harley Quinn movie, but it’s no solo outing: We also spoke with the Birds themselves – Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Rosie Perez – and co-stars Ella Jay Basco and Chris Messina about working with Robbie and creating some of the DCEU’s most epic action scenes yet. Plus, director Cathy Yan talks creating a Gotham City befitting her leading lady and working with Robbie to bring out Harley’s more vulnerable side.

(Photo by JSquared Photography/The CW)In 2011, as Smallville came to an end, The CW began developing a show centered on another comic book hero: Green Arrow. The Golden Age DC Comics character came to prominence thanks to the Superman prequel series and actor Justin Hartley. But in a shock to Hartley and Smallville fans, the network decided against making the series a spin-off. Instead, it turned to producer Greg Berlanti and his team to build a completely new show. The result was Arrow, a darker take on the character — now played by Stephen Amell — that set out to tell his origin story via flashbacks while also charting Oliver Queen s first few years as a hero. It would touch on certain hero milestones while also, eventually, introducing a sprawling world of characters. With the announcement that Arrow s upcoming seventh season will be its last, here s a look back at the way Arrow changed the landscape of superhero television.1. It Changed the Tone of Action(Photo by Robert Falconer/The CW)Don’t let Felcity Smoak’s (Emily Bett Rickards) quips fool you: Arrow was a serious show from the jump. Some might even say it was too serious. Unlike the warm dynamic of Smallville, Arrow’s Oliver Queen was a lone brooding vigilante on a crusade to kill Starling City businessmen who failed the town and its people. It was an adjustment to say the least, but it re-framed the television superhero from the kids stuff of the 20th century or the teen feel of Smallville to a grounded action show.In doing so, it upped the ante for on-screen violence and action scenes. In its first few years, the Arrow stunt team changed the way fights were shot. And while some would deny it, the hallway fights of Daredevil can be traced directly back to the work Arrow did first as it made vigilante justice look painful and real.Beyond the fights, it also tried to address Oliver’s trauma from a more realistic place. While it may not have completely succeeded in that mission, it did open the door for heroes to recognize their faults in more compelling ways.2. It Showcased Characters from Deep Within the Library(Photo by Katie Yu/The CW)While Smallville pulled Green Arrow out of relative obscurity, Arrow excelled at showcasing lesser-known characters from the DC Comics library. Felicity, for example, was so obscure that her creator was surprised to see her on a TV show (and DC eventually compensated him for using the character). While not a one-to-one match of the original Felicity Smoak, she proved deep pulls from the library could make the series richer. Just imagine what the show would be like without Felicity bringing some levity to the deep-voiced seriousness of Ollie and John Diggle (David Ramsey). In the beginning, executive producer Marc Guggenheim said his strategy was to break a story first and see if a character in the library could compliment it. This led to early appearances by the Royal Flush Gang, the Huntress, Deathstroke, Shado, and Wintergreen. In the second season, the writers confidence in the format grew with Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White) and Brother Blood (Kevin Alejandro) recurring throughout the year. That season also saw the debut of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), a character we ll come back to in a bit.As the seasons rolled on, characters like Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), Vigilante (Johann Urb), Ragman (Joe Dinicol), Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez), Mr. Terrific (Echo Kellum), and even John Constantine (Matt Ryan) made appearances or became integral parts of the show.OK, so John Constantine is pretty famous in his own right, but the point still stands: Arrow proved obscure characters could shine if given the right showcase.3. It Proved a TV Universe Could Work(Photo by The CW)Integrating obscure characters helped Arrow pull off an important feat for a single television series: It created a sprawling TV universe. Sure, the heyday of NBC s Must-See TV saw different crossover variations (characters would appear on one another’s shows, or events — like, say, a blackout — would affect each show on a given evening). But a real, consistent sense of continuing unity between shows was practically unheard of for a variety of reasons. Then Barry Allen guest starred on Arrow. The plan was in place before Gustin was even cast — Berlanti and The CW wanted a Flash show, and what better way to introduce the character than by featuring him on Arrow? It worked, of course, with The Flash joining Arrow on the network schedule during Arrow’s third season. That year also marked the inaugural (and now annual) crossover. But more connections spilled out from the crossover. The Flash’s Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) helped Team Arrow redefine and upgrade their tech. Characters from both shows wound up as leads on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, meaning certain events on one show would become key parts of another, like how the death of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) affected Legends  Sara Lance’s (Caity Lotz).A recent episode of The Flash is also a prime example: A.R.G.U.S. director Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson), a recurring character on Arrow, was featured throughout the Flash episode since the storyline involved A.R.G.U.S. asset King Shark. The Flash made no attempt to introduce Lyla as a new element because longtime viewers know the relationship between A.R.G.U.S. and The Flash’s S.T.A.R. Labs. It is the sort of complexity TV networks would have balked at just eight years ago, but Arrow proved characters can move between shows without confusing the viewer.4. It Codified the Support Team(Photo by Daniel Power/The CW)While there are precursors to Felicity’s role as Overwatch — Oracle on Birds of Prey, for example — the notion of “the man in the chair” and the support team really evolved on Arrow. In its earliest episodes, Oliver operated alone before finally letting Dig — who was his bodyguard at the time — in on his secret. A few episodes later, Felicity joined the team and forever changed the dynamic of superheroes on television by giving them support teams.Sure, Clark had his parents and a few friends to advise him or help with investigations on Smallville, but Team Arrow was something different. And as a consequence, every subsequent Berlanti-produced superhero show — and some not produced by his company — developed the support team from the start. Look at S.T.A.R. Labs and the way the communication between the Flash and the Cortex evolved from the earpieces Oliver and Diggle used to keep in contact with Felicity. The constant, immediate communication between the hero and “the man in the chair” is now an integral part of the TV superhero grammar. It is such an ingrained aspect of the superhero genre at this point that series like Jessica Jones and films like Spider-Man: Homecoming poke fun at it. But the support team makes perfect sense, as television is very much a communal medium. Lone heroes always end up cultivating a community, so why not acknowledge it early and make it a key feature of the show? It took Arrow finding its way to the man in the chair” organically to prove superheroes on television need a family as quickly as possible.5. It Gave Us John Diggle(Photo by Diyah Pera/The CW)For all the ways it imported elements from the comics and made those things work, Arrow also contributed one incredible new idea to the lore: John Diggle. First Oliver’s bodyguard (although that didn’t last too long), the man is more his brother at this point than anything else. He was even the first person to put on the hood after Oliver. Named, in part, after Green Arrow: Year One writer Andy Diggle, John lived a full life well before the series began, and many of his storylines revolve around confronting his past. Sometimes it works out, like his second marriage to Lyla. Other times, like with his brother Andy (Eugene Byrd), it leads to new wounds and a lot of soul searching. Diggle has been Oliver’s conscience, a clear moral center for all the members of Team Arrow, and the one person who will never get used to superpowers in the larger realm of the Arrowverse. (His inability to keep from vomiting whenever Barry speeds him to a new location is a great running joke.)And because he became such a key part of Arrow’s dynamic, DC Comics introduced its own version of John Diggle in 2013’s Green Arrow #24. While some aspects of the character are different, the comic book Diggle was also the first to learn of Oliver’s nighttime occupation. The two worked together for a time, but their relationship is more fractious than their television counterparts — which is incredible considering Diggle’s departures from Team Arrow and that drag-down fight he and Ollie had a season ago.But Diggle’s continued presence on the show proves a television series based on a comic book can offer the source material something worthwhile. It happened before with Harley Quinn and Renee Montoya from Batman: The Animated Series, but Dig is the live-action test case for the same phenomenon. Also, he s just a really great character. While there s still plenty of new Arrow ahead thanks to the remainder of the seventh season and the entirety of the final 10-episode eighth season, reflecting on these groundbreaking aspects of the show is a reminder of the series lasting impact — and can provide insight into how the series will reflect on its own legacy as the show heads toward a definitive conclusion.

亚博网络平台 (Photo by Image Comics)TV Release Date: TBDBased On: The Millarworld comic book by Mark Millar and artist Peter GrossEverything We Know So Far: As part of Netflix s ongoing relationship with Millar, this series will focus on a 12-year-old boy who just happens to be the Second Coming of Christ. The revelation forces him to grow up very quickly and deal with the fate of the world while also tackling common pre-teen problems. Luke Cage veteran Everardo Gout and brother Leopoldo Gout are the executive producers of the six-episode series. Production was to take place in late 2019 in Mexico, but was delayed. Nevertheless, Netflix has set up a page for the series on its website, which means it could be once of the first productions to begin after the pandemic. It’s Most Like: My So-Called Life crossed with Monty Python s Life of Brian.Chances It Will Be a Certified Fresh Hit: Considering Netflix recently cancelled the similarly-themed Messiah, we re not sure this series will ever make it to air. Also, considering Messiah struck out with a Rotten 44%, American Jesus may be one of the more likely misses in development.Dylan Dog(Photo by ©Freestyle Releasing/Courtesy Everett Collection)TV Release Date: TBDBased On: The paranormal investigator created by Tiziano Sclavi and a number of other writers and artists.Everything We Know So Far: First announced as part of publisher Sergio Bonelli Editore ambitious plans to bring its character to the small screen in 2019, the potential series received a boost when Aquaman director James Wan signed on as a producer this past October; although it is unclear when the 10-episode first season will be produced or where it will air. It’s Most Like: Kolchak: The Night Stalker with a hipper vibe.Chances It Will Be a Certified Fresh Hit: To be honest, we re not sure if Dylan Dog is distinctive enough to wow critics or potential viewers. The 2011 feature film, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (pictured), earned a meager 7% on the Tomatometer. The comic is unquestionably cool, but much of that coolness can easily evaporate when converted to live-action settings.Read also: Comics On TV 2020: What’s Coming That We Can’t Wait ForPort of Earth

This week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as Father of the Bride, Hourman, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This WEEK S TOP STORYZACK SNYDER CONFIRMS NO SEQUEL FOR JUSTICE LEAGUE(Photo by Clay Enos/NETFLIX ©2020)This week, years of online campaigning finally resulted in Zack Snyder s Justice League (Fresh at 75%) premiering on HBO Max, allowing fans to see Snyder s intended vision (instead of the version directed by Joss Whedon in 2017). Even so, Zack Snyder s Justice League is something of a superhero curio. Ben Affleck won t be starring in next year s The Batman (Robert Pattinson is), Warner Bros. is rebooting Superman without Henry Cavill, and Ray Fisher is done as Cyborg. To his credit, Snyder has been pretty straightforward this week when asked about the situation, with the gist being that Zack Snyder s Justice League is not to be considered a part of the DCEU canon. Snyder said that the original plan was for this Justice League to be followed by two more films, but now, Warner Bros. hasn’t really expressed any interest in making more movies with me, and that’s 100% fine. I understand.  Snyder may be done with the Justice League, but both The Flash (11/4/2022) (featuring Ben Affleck as Batman) and Wonder Woman 3 remain in active production or development.Other Top Headlines1. BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH TO STAR AS REAL LIFE WAR MAGICIAN (Photo by Jason Smith/Everett Collection)Benedict Cumberbatch first became famous for starring as TV s Sherlock, but in the years since, his most famous role has since become Marvel Studios Doctor Strange (Certified Fresh at 89%), with Cumberbatch now filming the sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (3/25/2022). Cumberbatch s Marvel character is obviously fictional, but for his latest project, he will star as a real life British illusionist Japser Maskelyne, who assisted the World War II war effort. The film will be called War Magician, which will be the next project from director Colin Trevorrow after recently wrapping production on Jurassic World: Dominion (6/10/2022). Jasper Maskelyne famously worked with the British military to create large scale illusions to deceive and disrupt the Nazi invasion forces, such as huge balloon tanks to inflate the size of British forces, and hide escape tools like blades or maps in combs and playing cards.2. ANTONIO BANDERAS TO RETURN AS PUSS IN BOOTS NEXT YEAR (Photo by Paramount Pictures)In 2016, DreamWorks Animation was officially acquired by NBC/Universal, which was good news for some projects, but seemed to slow down others, such as the Shrek franchise in general (the most recent Shrek feature film was Shrek Forever After in 2010). This year will also mark the 10th anniversary of the Shrek spinoff Puss in Boots, starring Antonio Banderas as the feline swashbuckler, but Universal confirmed this week that another Puss in Boots will be released by the end of next year (9/23/2022). The title of the sequel will be Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Banderas is confirmed to be returning to voice the title character, although no other voice cast have been announced. DreamWorks Animation is also developing a return to the main Shrek franchise, but it appears that Puss in Boots will get his sequel first.3. EZRA MILLER S THE FLASH GAINS A MOM AND LOSES A DAD (Photo by Warner Bros.)If you had four free hours in the last day or so to watch Zack Snyder s Justice League, you may have noticed that the film s cast (as did Joss Whedon s version) included Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, the father of Barry Allen, A.K.A. The Flash. Crudup was also one of the first actors to start negotiations to reprise the role for The Flash (11/4/2022). As it turns out, however, he is now dropping out of The Flash due to scheduling conflicts with his role on the Apple+ drama The Morning Show. It s unclear whether the role will be recast, but at the same time as Crudup is dropping out, Spanish actress Maribel Verdú (Pan s Labyrinth, Y Tu Mama Tambien) has joined the film as Barry Allen s mother. Verdú joins a growing ensemble cast that will also include Ezra Miller (Barry Allen), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (also Batman), and Sasha Calle (Supergirl). The Flash will be directed by Andy Muschietti (IT, Mama), working from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Bumblebee).4. THE TIME IS FINALLY RIGHT FOR GOLDEN AGE SUPERHERO HOURMAN  (Photo by The CW)The timelines and chronologies of comic book superheroes can often be confusing to follow, in no small part because so many of the characters date back over 50 years (or, in some cases, more than 75 years). One way that DC Comics has handled this is through what DC calls legacy characters, in which younger versions of superheroes are introduced over time, resulting in a family of heroes that eventually all have the same superhero name (there have been, for example, almost a dozen different heroes called Starman). One of those DC Comics legacy heroes is Hourman, who was first introduced in 1940 as a hero who acquired superpowers for one hour at a time by taking a drug (which writers later explored in the form of drug addiction). The son of the original Hourman also became Hourman (a version of which currently co-stars on The CW s Stargirl), and in the 1990s, there was a time travelling android called Hourman, too. Despite celebrating his 80th anniversary last year, Hourman has never been in a live-action feature film, but Warner Bros. is now developing a movie that will finally correct that. Warner Bros., DC Films, and Chernin Entertainment are collaborating on a Hourman movie, starting with the hiring of screenwriters Gavin James and Neil Widener, who have also worked together in the past on the (not yet produced) sequels Now You See Me 3 and San Andreas 2. It is not yet known which of the Hourman heroes from the comics will be adapted for the Hourman movie.5. BATGIRL AND ZATANNA BOTH PART OF MYSTERIOUS WB/DC PLANS(Photo by ©Warner Bros. courtesy Everett Collection)Back in December, Disney revealed dozens of new projects during their Disney Investor Day event, with the biggest emphasis being on Disney+ (though not exclusively). Disney s most obvious direct competition is Warner Bros. and DC Comics (as evidenced this week by the close proximity between the streaming premieres of Zack Snyder s Justice League and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier). This week, AT T (the parent company of Warner Bros.) included a tease screen of 24 DC Comics projects currently in production or development, although the presentation did not go into as much detail for each project as Disney s did. That means that there were a few projects that were confirmed without us necessarily knowing what was confirmed. Specifically, the two highest profile projects confirmed this week were Batgirl and Zatanna. This is the biggest Batgirl movie news since 2017, when Joss Whedon had been working on a Batgirl project concurrent to finishing Justice League (though he dropped out of it just a few months later). As for the magical superhero Zatanna, she s come close to making her live-action feature film debut as part of Justice League Dark in the last ten years, but this appears to be a solo Zatanna project. It s also important to note that the presentation did not specify whether Batgirl and Zatanna will be theatrically released Warner Bros. feature films, or whether they might be intended exclusively for HBO Max.  6. ANDY GARCIA TO BE LATINX FATHER OF THE BRIDE (Photo by ©Warner Bros. courtesy Everett Collection)Spencer Tracy and a young Elizabeth Taylor starred as the title characters in the classic 1950 romantic comedy Father of the Bride (Fresh at 90%), which received a Steve Martin-led remake in 1991 (Fresh at 70%) that was itself popular enough to get a sequel in 1995 (Rotten at 50%). Last month, Warner Bros. revealed that the studio is developing another remake with a Latinx focus, and this week, we found out who will be the titular father. That man will be Andy Garcia, who will star as the father of a Cuban-American family, with Garcia also serving as executive producer. It sounds like Warner Bros. is fast-tracking Father of the Bride, so we should hear about more casting for other members of the family soon.7. YOUNG ROYALS FROM BLACK PANTHER AND THE CROWN JOIN PROVISION (Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough, Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)This may be a total (or near total) coincidence, but Letitia Wright played a Wakandan princess in Black Panther, and Josh O Connor starred in seasons 3 and 4 of Netflix s The Crown as the young Prince Charles, and now, they re both signed to star in the same movie. Wright and O Connor have both signed to star in the Irish drama Provision, which will depict the harrowing immigration process in Ireland. Wright will play a a young African woman fleeing persecution who ends up spending over two years in Ireland’s asylum system who befriends a security guard played by O Connor.8. DANIEL RADCLIFFE JOURNEYING TO SANDRA BULLOCK S LOST CITY OF D (Photo by Jaap Buitendijk/Warner Bros.)Like many of his Harry Potter costars, Daniel Radcliffe has spent most of his post-Potterverse career focusing on more indie projects (such as Swiss Army Man, in which he played a superpowered corpse), often in roles that are more ambiguous than his strictly heroic turn as Harry Potter. This week, Radcliffe signed on to star as the main villain in Paramount Pictures romantic adventure Lost City of D, starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. The premise of Lost City of D sounds a lot like the 1980s classic Romancing the Stone, as Sandra Bullock will play a romance novelist who gets kidnapped (or targeted for kidnapping) alongside the model (Channing Tatum) who poses on her book covers.9. JAMIE FOXX AND JAIME LANNISTER KNOW GOD IS A BULLET (Photo by Priscilla Grant, JA/Everett Collection)Perhaps it s an example of apophenia, but sometimes, the coincidences in casting announcements can be hard not to notice. For example, Jamie Foxx s new co-star in the action thriller God Is a Bullet is Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who is most famous for playing Jaime Lannister in HBO s Game of Thrones (the slight spelling difference between Jamie and Jaime notwithstanding). Foxx and Coster-Waldau will be leading an ensemble cast that will also include January Jones (Mad Men), Maika Monroe (It Follows), and Andrew Dice Clay. Written and directed by Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook, John Q), God Is a Bullet will tell the story of a detective (Coster-Waldrau) whose family is murdered by a Satanic cult, which leads him to quit the force to infiltrate the cult, aided by the only woman (Maika Monroe) to ever escape it. Incidentally, Nick Cassavetes father John Cassavetes himself starred in one of the most famous movies ever about a Satanic cult, Rosemary s Baby (Certified Fresh at 96%).On an Apple device? It’s the television game-changer of the moment. It’s spectacular in every way. Those two women both as actresses and characters are stunning. Jodie Comer is my new favorite sexy twisted hero villainess. And it’s just – what can I say? The added bonus is Fiona Shaw, who, on the show, is playing this wicked character but she is also just an icon in gay, elevated, acting royalty.Tanya Saracho: Killing Eve is inspired storytelling. I will continue to love it for its complicated, flawed and morally ambiguous protagonists. I choose to disregard [star Sandra] Oh s comments about this not being a lesbian story and will take it for what I think it is: A f ked-up queer tale of love and obsession.Noah’s ArcSteven Canals: Noah s Arc is a really great one. It s one of the few shows I can think of that centers queer black men.Mj Rodriguez: When Noah s Arc came out, that slayed for me. It was the validation. And also there were trans women on that show. Granted, they were featured, or they were guests, or they were background, but they were still there and that s what really made me feel good.American Horror Story 77%Ilene Chaiken: Ryan Murphy delivers for me in American Horror Story. In everything he does he delivers. Nobody tells our stories and portrays us and provokes us in the way he does, but American Horror Story is my favorite because he does genre, and genre gets at us in such a profound way.Vida 100%Janet Mock: I love Vida. I love what Tanya has done with that series. I love how much deeper they go in season 2 — I watched it in a day and a half. I love a half-hour drama. I think that she s doing such important work. I love those actors so much. I love the world that s there. That s literally right over here, right, a little east of us where we re at right now. And so yeah, I love that series and I hope that more people watch it and support it.Pose 98%Tanya Saracho: Pose is necessary television. And it s overdue. It s a beautiful thing to see all those brown and black faces on screen, living their truest lives. Will & Grace Mj Rodriguez: Now granted, there were no trans women on that show at all, but it was still representation of the LGBT community. And I can only relate to it somewhat because I mean, it was an all-white cast.Sense8 86%Ilene Chaiken: Maybe it never found the audience that it should have, although I know it has some very devoted fans. It’s a beautiful work of art, something we don’t often see on television. It works as story, but it works as just ethereal, ephemeral, profound art.Gentleman Jack 90%Tanya Saracho: I m crazy about Gentleman Jack (and that top hat!). I love everything about the show; the aesthetic, the tone, the story — but mainly, Ms. Suranne Jones. She took her character, Anne Lister, through the emotional paces from cheeky breaks of the fourth wall to stirring exploration of what it meant to be queer in a time when that was a viscerally dangerous thing.Orphan Black 93%Ilene Chaiken: Even if there hadn’t been gay and trans clones, I still would’ve said it was a gay show, but it’s just progressive, it’s subversive, it’s brilliant, and also, and really important for me, I have been looking for gay genre shows, or for genre shows that feature gay characters and gay themes forever and ever and Orphan Black finally delivered for me.Orange Is the New Black 90%Mj Rodriguez: Laverne Cox is like my sister, and she was the one who broke down that door and opened the space up for us to come on in and take our craft seriously. One Day at a Time 99%Tanya Saracho: I heart One Day at a Time so much. Elena and Syd s beautiful relationship is poignant and bold and so now. I love how they love. The Rachel Maddow ShowIlene Chaiken: And also Anderson Cooper, but Rachel Maddow in particular. Where else do we look for icons, for just a touchstone to our own rage and hope and truth?
