The middle of the month boasts a whopping 10 new wide releases across just two weeks, but few of them would be considered must-see entertainment by most. That said, we ve still got a smattering of noteworthy films on the way, including the Fast Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, a horror flick produced by Guillermo del Toro, and a raunchy coming-of-age comedy. Read on to find out the five most anticipated movies of August, as voted by Rotten Tomatoes users and our fans on social media.1. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) 67%3,845 Want-to-See Votes#1 pick by our Instagram and Facebook fans, #2 pick by our Twitter fansOpens August 2It ll likely surprise no one that this film is the most anticipated of the month. Not only is the Fast Furious franchise one of the most popular and profitable around the world, but Hobbs Shaw unites two of its most bankable stars, gives them plenty of scenery to chew and one-liners to spout at each other, and pits them against a superpowered Idris Elba, with copious mayhem and vehicular pyrotechnics to boot. It also helps that this August, like so many Augusts past, is chock-full of second-tier summer fare all jostling for a slice of the box office pie. Hobbs Shaw knows what it is a hypertuned injection of adrenaline for thrill-seeking audiences and doesn t pretend to be anything more, which is exactly how fans like it.2. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019) 77%1,514 Want-to-See Votes#1 pick by our Twitter fans, #2 pick by our Facebook and Instagram fansOpens August 9Fan favorite director Guillermo del Toro s name is all over the marketing for Scary Stories, even though he s not the one behind the lens for this one. While André Øvredal is the man at the helm, the film fits rather neatly into del Toro s wheelhouse, so fans are excited to see what he is able to bring to the project as a producer. Of course, the main inspiration for the film is the series of children s horror books written by Alvin Schwartz, most notable for illustrator Stephen Gammel s terrifying artwork, and brought to life on screen as the manifestation of a young girl s secret writings. Scary Stories ranked at the top of the list for our Twitter fans this month, while our Facebook and Instagram fans voted it the second most anticipated.3. Good Boys (2019)1,271 Want-to-See Votes#3 pick by our Instagram and Twitter fans, #4 pick by our Facebook fansOpens August 16Coming-of-age films usually come in two varieties: the heartfelt drama and the raucous comedy. Good Boys fits squarely into the latter category, setting a trio of almost-teens (Jacob Tremblay, Brady Noon, and Keith L. Williams) loose on a caper to replace a damaged drone that takes them to places and through situations they ve never experienced before. It also happens to be rated R, implying these kids will get up to some very adult shenanigans. The film premiered earlier this year at South by Southwest to fairly strong reviews, and its promise of outlandish comedy was enough to propel it to #3 in our Instagram and Twitter polls.4a. Ready or Not (2019) 88%

The Internet did it: The Snyder Cut of Justice League is happening, coming to HBO Max in 2021. The campaign to release the director’s version of the DC superhero team-up flick, and Warner Bros.’ move to do just that, arguably represents the single greatest act of “fan service” in movie history. But what does this move – and others like it (hello, redesigned Sonic!) – mean for the future of movies and filmmakers’ ability to take creative risks? That’s what we’re asking in this video deep dive into fan service, where we break down what exactly “fan service” is; take you through the history of fan campaigns and studios’ successful (and sometimes unsuccessful) attempts to please lovers of certain IP; and contemplate what it all means for some of our favorite franchises. On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News.bob体育登录网址With a Tomatometer score of 96%, Avengers: Endgame is a hit with the critics. And with more than 0 million in the bank on just its first weekend, we know it s a box office smash. But what do fans think about the movie now that they ve gone out in droves to see it?Well, they mostly love it: Avengers: Endgame has a current Audience Score of 92%, slightly above Infinity War s Audience Score of 91%. But while the praise is overwhelming, it s not universal. And how could it be, with the weight of 21 films and 11 years of expectations on its shoulders? We combed through the user reviews that RT fans have submitted since Endgame s release and picked out some of the most insightful takes, and those which speak to some of the major themes we re seeing in user feedback, and put them in one place below. Check out these great user reviews and then let us know what you thought of the film, and these reviews, in the comments. (Note, some of the reviews have been slightly edited for length and grammar/spelling.)(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)A Love Letter to the MCU, with Nerdgasms to Boot[A] culmination of 22 films since 2008 led by the visionary mind of Kevin Feige and complex integration of the Russo Brothers as directors. This movie is not just incredible on its own but a step back to memory lanes of the movies done in the past – it is quite mind boggling how they ve done it. But they have and this is the fitting end this chapter of MCU. It is still packed with a lot of surprises despite all the fan theories – and they are BIG ONES. It still gives you that roller coaster ride of emotions but at a deeper and more serious tone. For millions of fans who have followed MCU since 2008 and decided to stop watching Marvel movies (I can t imagine why) this is really a great end for our superheroes journey. Any gaps from previous movies are filled. This one although bitter sweet is [a] fitting end.– Michael, 5 StarsAmazing love-letter from Marvel to the world. A breathtaking and emotional viewing of quick shots of action and humour, but impactful long-lasting satisfactory moments from its dramatic beats and character interactions. It s an end that has been bathed in pure Marvel gold and magic. Tengku N., 5 starsThe first and second act are an absolute love letter to the MCU movies that came before this one. The third act is an emotional roller coaster ride of nerdgasms and cry time which I never thought I will see and feel from a superhero movie. The final scene hits home big time. If you are not very familiar with the MCU, the first two acts may feel a bit slow for you. But the payoff in the third act is just awesome. Patrick B., 4.5 stars(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)BUT IS IT BETTER THAN INFINITY WAR?I m one of the people who came away from Infinity War restless and discontent. I really wasn t sure how the Russos were going to resolve all the hanging threads, much less reverse the snap. I have to say they surpassed my wildest dreams. While I didn t love every character arc, I can appreciate them all .. and my favorite? That one was so far beyond anything I could have hoped for. Kelly L., 5 starsI gotta admit ..I ll probably be the only one who feels this way ..but I d be lying if I didn t say .I liked Infinity War better. On a personal level, Infinity War kept me more consistently engaged and invested (key word: consistently) than this one did. Granted, this one does have some truly glorious aspects, my two favorites being: 1) the most epic battle sequences in Endgame feel multitudes more tremendous than those in Infinity War for a number of reasons (the most memorable involving Captain America); and 2) Thanos returns here with a vengeance in a wonderfully written way. The plot, as implied by the trailer(s) and without revealing any details, chooses to cater more heavily to the past as opposed to the quickest possible way to solve the problem presented at the end of Infinity War, resulting in the hefty runtime and some filler moments but ultimately creating a movie that feels more complete overall in terms of the entire franchise ..like a fitting conclusion, a proper resolution, the end of an era.  John S., 4.5 stars(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)It Left Some People DisappointedMy expectation and anticipation for this film were sky-high, buoyed by positive responses by critics and fans. However, having spent hours and hours on character and plot analysis with other MCU nerds, I had extremely high expectations, which were not met. I m not disappointed because they didn t make a movie that solely exists in my head, but the film wasn t what it could have been. I wanted to be surprised, shocked, and moved exclaiming you sneaky bastards, I see what you did there, and find fruition to the many clues, dangling threads and character arcs that were laid out in previous films, most notably Infinity War. Instead, the resolution oh. ok. so that s it. fine. The film abandoned several important characters, neglecting what seemed to be important setup and development (Loki), inferred strategic importance to the meta-story (Strange, Captain Marvel) or have just devolved the characters into punchlines (Thor, Quill). Moments that were supposed to move emotionally were diffused by familiarity (seen that before!) or anti-climax (we pause this death for a joke). For a series that always emphasized team work, the concluding gesture undermined it. Lots of plot holes and more questions unanswered. Lynne D., 3.5 starsThis is going to feel weird. I have been a hardcore MCU fan since the start. I thought there were amazing moments in this movie. Definitely plenty to get hyped about with my MCU friends. Something about it as a whole was lackluster. Maybe it was because it felt like they flew through certain major plot elements despite it s extremely long run-time. I appreciate that they gave conclusions to our major heroes, but I wasn t crazy about how they seemed to rush and skip over certain things that I d rather have seen fleshed out more. I don t want to criticize it too heavily because it was an impossible task to fit all this into this conclusion movie and flesh everything out, I just personally felt a bit underwhelmed. I honestly went into this movie thinking it would easily become my favorite MCU movie to date, but it s definitely not. Still think it s very good, don t get me wrong. Stephen I. 3.5 starsThe good: Fun action scenes that are more creative than many similar films. Genuinely great moments of comedy. All characters, though some have very short appearances, are treated well. The bad: The dialog is clunky and lacks any subtlety. The movie also has an unfortunate habit of throwing mildly funny one liners in that ruin moments of natural tension. Many, seemingly insurmountable, problems faced by the heroes are solved so quickly and easily that it gives an odd feeling of pace at some points of the movie. Billy P. 2.5 stars(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)It s a Cathartic Conclusion to the Infinity SagaA cathartic, satisfying experience for all MCU fans that have been around from the start, Endgame is full of callbacks and emotional payoffs years in the making. The stakes are real. The character arcs justified, balanced, and well-executed. The emotions tangible, delivered fantastically by every actor, particularly the original six. The action is exciting, but doesn t take center stage until it needs to. The humor and heart truly make this movie. Caitlin B., 5 starsAs a diehard comic book fanboy, this a dream fulfilled experience. I grew up loving these characters from the comics as a child. I love both DC and Marvel respectively. That being said the astonishing work done by Kevin Feige and the creative team at Marvel Studios is beyond amazing. They brought new life to these legendary characters for audiences to watch and enjoy. The MCU has been an exciting experience throughout the course of 22 films telling a narrative with unique creativity and wonderful memories by a cast that have transcended to super stars. This is a great tribute to Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and the founding fathers of the Marvel Comics Shamar L., 5 starsCheck out all of the user reviews for Avengers: Endgame so far. Like this? I love it because I am the Julia Roberts character in this movie. I am such a proponent of like, what else do you want to do? And what I love about the movie is that even though it was empowering to be like, you can be more, there is something also freeing about choice. It s like, I understand I can do more. I m also very satisfied and happy with what is presented to me. But I am definitely the Julia Roberts character, pushing people: what do you want to do with your life?

The CW reshaped the status quo of its comic book–based programming on Thursday by releasing a bevy of information during its annual Upfront presentation to advertisers. Besides trailers for the upcoming Batwoman and Katy Keene series, it also unveiled a new fall schedule obscuring the prevalence of superheroes on the network and teased the coming of “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the annual fall Arrowverse crossover which will prove to be the most epic yet devised. So let’s take a look at what The CW’s comic book future will look like in the 2019-2020 season. No Legends of Tomorrow Until 2020Starting with the saddest bit of news — no, not the imminent end of Arrow — the network has postponed DC’s Legends of Tomorrow until mid-season. We’re big fans of the scrappy, goofy, time-traveling series. Despite the roughest of starts for any of the CW superhero shows, it found its voice in humor and the wilder aspects of the DC Comics library – from the most unlikely band of heroes to recurring spots for characters like John Constantine (Matt Ryan), and the demon Neron. Then again, those qualities make it much more a CW mid-season series than a headliner like The Flash or Riverdale. Consider off-beat series like My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie and the placement makes much more sense. While it proved to be a nice change of pace from the dour Arrow this season, it also doesn’t need the connection to the main Arrowverse series like it once did. Perhaps the series will flourish in iZombie’s place.Alternatively, we may soon be sad to discover Legends will take another cue from iZombie and plan for its fifth season to be its last.Batwoman Gets a Fall PremiereIn one of the bigger surprises, Batwoman will arrive on The CW in the fall. The series seemed destined to replace Arrow on the schedule, but giving it a big fall debut signals the network has a certain confidence in the program. The series stars Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin. Three years after Batman disappeared from Gotham City, crime has once again run rampant, and Kate’s father Jacob (Dougray Scott) attempts to hold back the tide as the head of Crows Private Security. But with the Alice in Wonderland gang kidnapping his own officers, Kate returns to town only to discover Alice’s latest victim is her ex-girlfriend Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy). Tired of this state of affairs, Kate learns the truth about Bruce and takes up the cape and cowl as her own – even if her father despises masked vigilantes. Also, it is entirely possible Kate has a closer tie to Alice (Rachel Skarsten) than she realizes. The premise continues a certain progression within the Arrowverse as it gets closer to the main DC superheroes. Also, Batwoman is a pretty great character in her own right thanks to a complex inner life and mythology devised by Greg Ruka, J.H. Williams III, and W. Haden Blackman. From the trailer released by The CW on Thursday, some of these elements are already on display; like Kate’s dishonorable discharge from military school and Alice herself. Sadly, some of the elements we love from the comic book – Jacob as Kate’s version of Alfred and a ongoing relationship with Maggie Sawyer – will not be part of the series, but knowing the love these programs have for the source material, we expect those things will be honored in some way.The series will be paired with Supergirl on Sundays, a move which seemed fated from the moment word of a potential Batwoman series first made the rounds last summer. This seemed like such an obvious pairing, we were shocked to learn in last year’s “Elseworlds” crossover that Kate lives on Earth-1 and not Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) Earth-38. But with the coming Crisis, their pan-dimensional addresses may change.Arrow Joins The Flash on Tuesdays(Photo by JSquared Photography/The CW)Though The CW has a bevy of superhero shows (and two more shows based on comic books), it makes an attempt not to be known as the comic book network. One of the tactics they employ to obscure its superhero reliance is doubling the shows up on two key nights. In fall 2019, Tuesday will once again serves as the anchor night for this scheme as Arrow spends its final days as The Flash’s lead-out.And based on the way season 7 ended, it seems the eighth and final year will see Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) on one last mission to not only save his city, but the entire Multiverse. In a way, it seems mind-boggling that a show once so grounded as Arrow would end with its lead character saving all of creation. Then again, it also seems like something Oliver would take upon himself even if he hadn’t made that deal with The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) during last Fall’s “Elseworlds” crossover. Presumably, this last mission will take place within the Arrow context — that is to say, a grounded story without super-powered shenanigans — before the Crisis takes Ollie to the cosmos. We’re also going to presume Legends will take Arrow’s Tuesday night slot in 2020. Black Lightning, which has held the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot since it debuted, is moving to Monday’s following All American in the Fall.Katy Keene Also Gets a Mid-Season SlotWith Riverdale seemingly heading toward an endgame — at least, its season finale heavily suggested a series-ending twist for next year — its world will finally expand with Katy Keene, a series based on the Archie Comics character set for a mid-season debut. The network previously developed Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as a Riverdale expansion before it quickly found a new home at Netflix. Compared to that show, it is easy to see why Katy Keene is a better fit for the network.Starring Lucy Hale, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beachamp, and Julia Chan as four up-and-comers in a New York as magical and timeless as Riverdale is murky and corrupt, the series was initially pitched as a musical dramedy, but that terminology has disappeared from all official descriptions of the series. Music will still be a big part of the series as Murray imports her Riverdale character Josie McCoy to Katy Keene. In fact, supporting characters from the Josie and the Pussycats comics like the Alexander and Alexandra Cabot will feature regularly on the series in the forms of actors Lucien Laviscount and Camille Hyde. The series will also feature Zane Holtz as Katy’s longtime boyfriend KO Kelly – another Archie Comics import – and Katherine LaNasa as Katy’s “demanding” boss Gloria. While seemingly light as air, the show hints at a dark edge with Chan’s Pepper Smith described as a mysterious player in town with dubious connections and even more dubious wealth. Considering the series was developed by Riverdale and Sabrina executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the show is almost guaranteed to have a dark heart beating under that veneer of glamour. In the meantime, though, it looks like a near-perfect intersection of The CW’s most successful programs. It would just need a member of the Gossip Girl cast to show up as a speedster to be really perfect.Riverdale, meanwhile, will remain its Wednesday 8 p.m. time slot. We would not be surprised to see Katy Keene become its lead-out come winter. The Crisis Is Nearly Upon Us(Photo by The CW)But there was one key happening the network was excited to tease during its presentation: the 2019 Arrowverse crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” The title is borrowed from the historic 1985 miniseries published by DC Comics, in which the company celebrated 50 years of its rich history while also ending the DC Universe as it existed up to that point. As the marketing at the time stated, “Worlds will live, worlds will die, and nothing will ever be the same.”In calling the 2019 crossover “Crisis,” we expect it will have similar ramifications. As it happens, Barry Allen and Kara Zor-El famously died in that story – and in rare display of fortitude in comics, both stayed dead for quite awhile – a possible ending for their TV counterparts hinted at during “Elseworlds.” But more importantly, the story ended with several DC Comics Earths merging into one new Earth. Considering this was one of the original Crisis on Infinite Earths’ lasting legacies for nearly two decades, we would not be surprised to see Kara become a permanent resident of the same reality as Barry Allen. This may be why Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) was so quick to give up his powers. In 10 months’ time, there will no longer be a Multiverse to vibe into.As a television event, “Crisis” will span for three episodes prior to the customary CW winter hiatus, then resume with two more episodes in January 2020. But considering the way the Arrowverse programs will be doubled-up on Sundays and Tuesdays, it is unclear how each of the five parts will air. The previous crossover were stripped across three-to-four days, so that will like be the case again, with Black Lightning switching nights with one of the other shows or taking part itself – though the network has made no suggestion the show will finally become part of the Arrowverse. In fact, its story lines are so tightly paced, we have no idea how it could pause to help Barry (Grant Gustin) save all of time and space. Nonetheless, we d still love to see the Pierces standing alongside the heroes of Earth-1 and Earth-38 when they face off against the single greatest existential threat to ever laugh at the DC superheroes.

As The Mandalorian nears the end of its second season, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) must make a difficult choice in his attempt to rescue Grogu. In doing so, he also offers an unlikely opportunity for a former foe. While not as focused on the larger universe as recent episodes, this week once again proved The Mandalorian is more than capable of telling its own tales on its own terms. So let s dive into Chapter 15: The Believer and discover why writer/director Rick Famuyiwa is overdo for his own Star Wars story. The following contains spoilers about The Mandalorian, season 2, episode 7, “Chapter 15: The Believer.” Stop here if you have not watched the episode.Last Week, Grogu Was Baby Yoda–napped(Photo by © 2020 Lucasfilm Ltd. ™. All Rights Reserved.)Arriving on Tython so Grogu can use Jedi temple ruins to contact a Jedi willing to train him, Djarin encountered Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). Fett s main concern is the recovery of the armor Djarin took from Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) and offered to protect the child in exchange for it. Sadly, Fett and Shand s help was not enough to prevent the Imperial Remnant from abducting Grogu. Djarin quickly formed a plan to save him, but it requires the assistance of former Imperial sharpshooter, Mayfeld (Bill Burr).Din Djarin and His Accomplices Use Deadly Force To Hunt Moff Gideon(Photo by © 2020 Lucasfilm Ltd. ™. All Rights Reserved.)Instead of the prison break last week s episode appeared to tease, Cara Dune (Gina Carano) uses her authority as a New Republic Marshal to secure Mayfeld s release into her custody. As part of Djarin s plan, Mayfeld needs to use his knowledge of Imperial codes and procedures to ascertain the coordinates of Moff Gideon s (Giancarlo Esposito) light cruiser. Once he hears Grogu s life is in the balance, Mayfeld agrees to assist. Needing direct access to an Imperial terminal, he suggests setting course for the secret mining operation on Morak.Once on the planet, Hess and Djarin disguise themselves as Shoretroopers to infiltrate a refinery for highly-volatile mineral rhydonium. When attempting to access an Imperial network in the mess hall with the terminal, Mayfeld backs out after noting Valin Hess (Richard Brake) among the officers. The two have history. Desperate to find Grogu, Djarin removes his helmet so the terminal can complete a facial scan. Unfortunately, all of their mucking about attracts the attention of Hess, but the Imperial officer only wants to congratulate them, as they were the only transport team to make it back to base. Things turn sour when Mayfeld darkly reminisces about the Burnin Konn engagement of Operation: Cinder, a mission which led to the deaths of roughly 10,000 troopers. When Hess dismisses the losses, Mayfeld shoots him.The resulting firefight leads to Hess and Djarin s escape, thanks to timely assists by Dune, Shand, and Fett. Djarin recovers his armor and Dune decides to let Mayfeld go after seeing him hit one of the rhydonium transports from the Slave I hatch and blowing up the entire Imperial base.Leaving Mayfeld on Morak, Djarin sends a message to Gideon declaring war.A Change of a Hardened Heart Suggests Imperial Goons Are Not All Created Equally(Photo by © 2020 Lucasfilm Ltd. ™. All Rights Reserved.)Mayfeld s reappearance here is a surprising change from his more villainous debut last season in Chapter 6, The Prisoner — also directed by Famuyiwa. It is, nevertheless, a welcome change as Mayfeld shows a hidden depth under his quips. Concern for the loss of life is not a quality the Empire or the Remnant values, and this growing concern was clearly a key reason Mayfeld walked away from the Imps after Burnin Konn.As it happens, Operation: Cinder was part of Sheev Palaptine s contingency plan to cripple the galaxy — Rebels and Imperials alike — should he ever perish. While on its face, it was meant to bring ecological devastation to world like Naboo and Burnin Konn, the high casualty counts were also part of the design. It is doubtful Hess or Mayfeld knew the real reasons for the operation, though, or the other aspects of Palpatine s plan, the retreat of certain Imperial forces to the Unknown Regions.Nevertheless, their reactions here illustrates a distinct difference in character. Hess is a true believer in the Empire s definition of order, while Mayfeld was probably a conditional Imp at best. As seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story and intimated by Luke Skywalker s desire to leave Tatooine, people joined the Imperial military because they are out of options. Typically, the training crushes a person s spirit and turns them into loyal goons like Hess, but sometimes a moral center survives. It is clearly the point of Famuyiwa s script as Mayfeld proved to be more honorable than the other characters he introduced in Chapter 6: The Prisoner. It also suggests Famuyiwa has a longer-form Star Wars story of his own to tell. His directorial debut in the galaxy, Chapter 2: The Child, was a fabulous self-contained adventure seemingly inspired by the simple question What if Boba Fett fought Jawas? Chapter 6, his debut as a writer (with Christopher Yost), continued with the seemingly one-off stories, while introducing a compelling set of miscreants, Mayfeld included. While it is possible he will stay on Morak to help the indigenous population fend off Imps and pirates — a worthy conclusion to his tale — it is also possible Famuyiwa has found a way to highlight the struggles of more common people caught between the never-ending conflicts in the galaxy. And with Star Wars expanding its television footprint to 19 series(!) in the next few years, we have to wonder if Famuyiwa will apply his craft to, say, Rangers of the New Republic. He is a great a filmmaker, and it s clear he can do great things in the Star Wars format, so we think it is time to set him loose on a series or a feature film. He is more than capable.Although, considering Dune declared Mayfeld dead while letting him go, we also have to wonder if he will have to dodge those Rangers in the upcoming series or befriend them.Questioning The Remnant(Photo by © 2020 Lucasfilm Ltd. ™. All Rights Reserved.)While we ponder Mayfeld s future in New Republic space, we also have to consider the Remnant s place in all of this.Is Another Operation: Cinder Afoot? While Palpatine s contingency plans were meant to cripple the Remnant and the New Republic in short order, both factions endured. Is the chaos Hess said would soon happen part of another contingency? The forces that will become the First Order and the Final Order are already ensconced in the Unknown Regions by this point, so sacrificing more Imps to hobble the New Republic feels on-point for the Sith Lord. Provided he s still issuing commands in his bizarre afterlife, of course. What Is The Remnant s Command Structure? Expanding on a question we ve asked before, it is still unclear if these Imperial Remnant enclaves are working in concert or independently of one another. In the Star Wars: Battlefield II campaign, directives regarding Operation: Cinder and other aspects of Palpatine s contingency are delivered to high ranking Imps via prerecorded holo-messages from the Emperor himself. The secrecy involved suggests Palpatine may have encouraged Remnant forces to splinter as part of the plan to cripple anyone not in the Unknown Regions. At the same time, it is possible Gideon united the factions into one organized Remnant. But even if that is the case, it still leaves us to wonder if Gideon is working at Palpatine s behest or for his own ambitions. How Strong Is the ISB? The Imperial Security Bureau definitely gives our heroes pause, but its strength only seems to extend to Remnant controlled zones or specific operations directed by Gideon, himself a former ISB operative. Is the ISB a credible threat? If so, why did the ISB lose track of Djarin and Grogu following the events on Nevarro last season? Why Did the Terminal Recognize Djarin s Face? From Mayfeld s explanation of the terminal system, we expected the facial scan to be another layer of the verification process. If that is true, why did it recognize Djarin s face? The simplest explanation, of course, is that the scan is just a simple logging system instead of a security function. Which may mean Gideon will use the record of the Mandalorian s face against him. Will Djarin Really Carry On Under the Helmet? Although all the Imps who saw his face are dead and Mayfeld choose to ignore what he saw, we can t help but wonder how Djarin can continue to wear the armor after being seen. On the one hand, he s seen plenty of Mandos this season who do not live by the Way of the Mandalore. On the other, he s still a religious zealot who has yet to reconcile the Way with the evidence of his own eyes. Perhaps, like Mayfeld said, Djarin will do what he must to get Grogu back and, after retrieving him, will leave the armor with Boba Fett; in fact, that feels like the right note to end the season on. We ll know soon enough, though, as next week is the season finale. The Mandalorian streams on Disney+.On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News.

This week s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news (the stories about what movies Hollywood is working on for you next), covering such titles as The Batman, Clue, Jurassic World 3, and the next Spider-Man.This WEEK S TOP STORYDISNEY AND SONY MAKE NICE FOR ANOTHER SPIDER-MAN MOVIE IN 2021(Photo by Chuck Zlotnick/ © Columbia Pictures)You may remember that last month, there was a huge story that talks between Sony Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures (and their Marvel Studios) had fallen apart over future Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reportedly, Disney and Marvel wanted a 50% cut of future Spider-Man movies , and Sony wasn t willing to budge. People understandably reacted quite passionately to the news, with plenty of folks saying one or the other studio was being greedy at the expense of what the fans wanted. Well, after all of that attention and feedback, the relevant parties started up talks again, resulting in today s big news, which is that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will indeed work together on a third solo Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, which will be released on July 16, 2021. The financial compromise calls for Disney to receive 25% of the film s profits (leaving 75% for Sony), down from their original request of 50%. As part of the new deal, Tom Holland will also appear as Spider-Man in one more MCU movie, the title and premise of which haven t been revealed yet. The new release date (7/16/2021) for the next Spider-Man movie is the same as Space Jam 2, a week after Indiana Jones 5 (7/9/2021), and a week before Mission: Impossible 7 (7/23/2021). Marvel Studios other films scheduled for 2021 are: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2/12/2021), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (5/7/2021), and Thor: Love and Thunder (11/5/2021).Other Top Headlines1. MARVEL STUDIOS BOSS KEVIN FEIGE IS DEVELOPING A STAR WARS MOVIE (Photo by Greg Doherty/Getty Images)Before the news about Spider-Man broke, this writer thought for sure that the top story of the week was going to be this revelation about the future of Star Wars. In addition to the Star Wars movies that have actually been released since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, there are nearly as many projects that have been rumored or are still in development for the future, past 2020. We re thinking, for example, of the now apparently cancelled Star Wars Story movies for Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, and Yoda, and the projects from both director Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.  As far as we currently know, the first movie from Benioff and Weiss is still scheduled for December 16, 2022 (with two more to follow in 2024 and 2026). It was announced this week, however, that what appears to be another Star Wars project is being developed by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. No other details have been revealed, except that there is reportedly a major actor that Feige hopes to attract. Considering it was reported earlier this year that Feige had been talking to Keanu Reeves about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Reeves is now everyone s top guess as to who Feige is courting. Other names included in this piece by The Hollywood Reporter include previous Marvel stars Hugh Jackman and Michael B. Jordan, current Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, former Dark Knight star Christian Bale, and Leonardo DiCaprio, who has mostly avoided starring in franchise movies.2. JONAH HILL LIKELY JOINING THE BATMAN AS THE RIDDLER(Photo by Glen Wilson/©Sony Pictures Releasing)Few modern actors have transformed themselves within the last 15 years or so quite like Jonah Hill has. Based on some of the speculation this week, it would seem a lot of people haven t actually seen what he looks like since 2010 or so. It all started with the news that Hill had begun early talks with Warner Bros. about joining The Batman (the one starring Robert Pattinson) as one of the superhero reboot s villains. That led many to conjecture about him playing the Penguin, but Collider quickly confirmed that the role Jonah Hill is up for is the Riddler instead. The Penguin is still thought to be in The Batman, but another actor will take on that role. The Jonah Hill news ended up overshadowing the report a few hours earlier that Jeffrey Wright (of HBO s Westworld and the Hunger Games franchise) is also in talks to join The Batman as Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon, taking over the role previously played by Gary Oldman and, briefly, J.K. Simmons. Warner Bros has scheduled The Batman for release on June 25, 2021 (a week before Sing 2, and two weeks before Indiana Jones 5).3. ORIGINAL JURASSIC PARK STARS TO RETURN FOR JURASSIC WORLD 3 (Photo by Universal courtesy Everett Collection)In the past, we ve seen some of the stars from the original Jurassic Park return for sequels, with Sam Neill and Laura Dern returning for Jurassic Park III, and Jeff Goldblum having a small role in last year s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. What hasn t happened yet, however, is all three of them returning for the same movie, and in more than just small roles or cameos. That is, until this week, as Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill are all now set to reunite for Jurassic World 3 (6/11/2021). Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, who skipped Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, will return to the franchise with Jurassic World 3 after also recently releasing a Jurassic World short film called Battle at Big Rock. No official premise for Jurassic World 3 has been announced yet, but the most common speculation involves the world s response to the various dinosaurs expanding their dominance over the Earth after escaping into the wild at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World 3 is scheduled for release on June 11, 2021, which puts it a week after the Micronauts and Sesame Street movies on June 4, 2021.4. THIS WEEK IN RYAN REYNOLDS, PART I: JASON BATEMAN TO DIRECT CLUE REMAKE (Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images)Sometimes a given star or director will have more than one big story in the same week. That s what happened this week for Ryan Reynolds, who we last saw on the big screen in Pokémon Detective Pikachu (Fresh at 68%), back in May. Let s start with a movie we already knew about, namely the reboot of Clue, based on the popular board game. Clue came out in 1985, and though it currently has a Rotten Tomatometer score of 59%, its legacy suggests fans feel otherwise. Jason Bateman is now in early talks with Fox and Disney to direct and star in the Clue reboot, along with Ryan Reynolds, who is also producing and expected to star. Bateman and Reynolds previously costarred together in 2011 s The Change-Up (Rotten at 25%).5. THIS WEEK IN RYAN REYNOLDS, PART II: A CHRISTMAS CAROL WITH WILL FERRELLL(Photo by Hilary Bronwyn Gale / © Focus Features)Not only did we get news about two movies starring Ryan Reynolds this week, but they re both basically remakes/reboots. Unlike Clue, however, the other reboot is something that has been adapted dozens of times in film and television. Reynolds is teaming up with Will Ferrell to star in a new musical adaptation of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. So far, none of the stories about this new project specify which roles Reynolds and Ferrell will be playing, although this writer is going to speculate that Ferrell might be playing Ebenezer Scrooge, and Reynolds might be playing his unlucky and much put-upon employee, Bob Cratchit. (The roles could be going the other way, as well.) Musical adaptations of A Christmas Carol in the past have included the 1970 film Scrooge starring Albert Finney and 1992 s The Muppet Christmas Carol, among others.6. SYLVESTER STALLONE S SUPERHERO MOVIE SAMARITAN SCHEDULED FOR 2020 (Photo by Barry Wetcher/MGM)Now that Sylvester Stallone has starred in what is reportedly the last film in his most popular 1980s action movie franchise, Rambo: Last Blood (Rotten at 26%), it appears he now wants to jump on the superhero bandwagon in earnest. After a brief appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Stallone will now reportedly star in Samaritan, which we first heard about in February. In a time when some movies take decades to get produced (like Will Smith s Gemini Man), Stallone s Samaritan is moving at breakneck speed, as MGM has already scheduled Samaritan for release on November 20, 2020. The director will be Julius Avery, who is coming off last year s World War II zombie movie, Overlord (Certified Fresh at 81%). Other movies coming out in November of 2020 will include Clifford the Big Red Dog (11/13/2020), Disney s Raya and the Last Dragon (11/25/2020), and King Richard (11/25/2020), in which Will Smith will star as the father of future tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams.7. SONY PICTURES CONTINUES SPIDER-VERSE PLANS WITH MADAME WEB Although Marvel Studios retains the film rights to most of their characters, Sony Pictures retains the feature film rights to over 900 Marvel characters who are directly connected to Spider-Man. That number might seem outrageously high, but one has to remember exactly how many Spider-Man comics there have been since the early 1960s, especially since, for decades now, there have been multiple Spider-Man comics running concurrently. That being so, not all of the Spider-Man supporting characters and villains are necessarily well-known, even to most comic book fans. Case in point: Madame Web is one of those lesser-known characters, but that is indeed the latest title that Sony Pictures is now developing with the writers of next year s Spider-Man spinoff vampire movie Morbius (7/31/2020). What remains unclear is which Madame Web this movie will actually be about, as that name has been used by two very different characters in the comics: the elderly blind psychic Cassandra Webb and the much younger superhero (formerly known as Spider-Woman II), Julia Carpenter.8. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON DIRECTOR SAYS, LET S GET SMALL WITH MICRONAUTS (Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)The argument can be made that one of the casualties of the immense popularity of the Star Wars action figures in the late 1970s and early 1980s was the Micronauts toy line, which had just started to take off in 1977 and 1978. The Micronauts toys were relatively innovative in that they allowed for mix-and-match play (you could attach the wheels of one Micronaut to the body of another). However, what Micronauts is best known for today is for inspiring a long-running Marvel Comics series in which the tiny heroes from the Microverse ended up coming to our larger Earth. Paramount Pictures, the studio which has in the past given us movies based on other Hasbro toy lines like Transformers and G.I. Joe, has scheduled Micronauts for release on June 4, 2021, but until this week, we didn t know who might direct it. That job is going to Dean DeBlois, who has spent much of the last decade writing and directing the various movies in the animated How to Train Your Dragon franchise. Micronauts remains scheduled for June 4, 2021, which is the same week as the Sesame Street musical film starring Anne Hathaway, and the week before Jurassic World 3.9. REMAKE FRENZY CONTINUES TO REVISIT THE 1990S WITH NEW JACK CITY (Photo by Warner Bros. courtesy Everett Collection)Hollywood has been hooked on revisiting its past for decades now, with most reboots and remakes usually centered about 20 or 30 years in the past at any given point. We re just now starting to see the focus move on from the 1980s to the 1990s, and the expectation is that the 1990s will continue to be revisited for most of the 2020s. The latest such remake to be announced will take audiences back to 1991 s New Jack City (Fresh at 77%), which was part of a wave of early 1990s urban crime dramas, featuring such future stars as Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, and Chris Rock. Warner Bros. has started development of the New Jack City remake by hiring actor and filmmaker Malcolm M. Mays (Snowfall) to start work on the screenplay. New Jack City was very much about the then-topical crack cocaine epidemic, but it s not yet known if the remake will remain in the early 1990s as a period film, or if the setting will be updated.Like this? bob体育登录网址 Historically speaking, September has not been fertile ground for big moneymakers or awards season favorites at the movies. But with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to throw everything out of whack, and with the film industry continuing to shift into more fluid release strategies, that may be changing. This month, we ve still got some big movies with big names behind them, ranging from superheroics to psychological terror to pure fantasy. Based on numbers compiled from our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter polls, here are the five most anticipated movies of September!1. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)#1 on Facebook and Instagram, #2 on TwitterIn theaters on September 3As is typically the case for these lists, the most anticipated movie of the month should come as no surprise to anyone. Simu Liu s Shang-Chi is the first Asian superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to get his own film, so there is considerable excitement for his debut. The film also picks up on loose threads from both Iron Man and Iron Man 3 and boasts another noteworthy cast that includes Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and the ahem legendary Tony Leung, which only makes it more of a must-see. Shang-Chi was only bested by one other movie in our social media polls, but more on that a bit later.2. Malignant (2021)#2 on Facebook and Instagram, #3 on TwitterIn theaters and on HBO Max on September 10James Wan was courted by some big franchises the Fast and Furious and DCEU, to be precise to step away from horror a couple of times in the past few years, and the last time he brought us an original creation was the very first Conjuring movie back in 2013. Now he s back with some new tricks up his sleeve in Malignant, which stars Annabelle Wallis as a woman who suffers from recurring nightmares about violent murders, only to discover her dreams are actually happening in real life. This one sat right behind Shang-Chi in all of our social polls, only slipping to third on Twitter because of the next movie on this list 3. Cinderella (2021)#1 on Twitter, #3 on InstagramOn Amazon Prime on September 3It would appear the Camilla Cabello fans came out in force on Twitter, as the singer s feature debut rocketed to the top of that poll. She plays the titular princess in a reimagined, jukebox musical version of Cinderella, starring alongside Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Pierce Brosnan, Minnie Driver, and more. The new film takes a few small liberties with the classic tale Ella is an aspiring dressmaker, Porter plays her Fab G and fans are sure to find the creative interpretations of familiar songs delightful. Originally scheduled for a theatrical release, this one will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime.4. Dear Evan Hansen (2021)#4 on Facebook and Twitter, #5 on InstagramIn theaters on September 24Speaking of musicals, the fourth spot on this list belongs to a film based on a multiple Tony-winning Broadway hit with the stage production s star reprising his role. Ben Platt stars as the titular high school student, who finds himself wrapped up in an ever-expanding web of lies when a classmate commits suicide and his family believes Evan was his only friend. Based on the original musical s success, it s not surprising to see the film s roster of A-listers, which includes Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Kaitlyn Dever, and Amandla Stenberg, among others, and fans looking forward to the adaptation helped propel it into the top five.5. The Card Counter (2020)#3 on Facebook, #5 on TwitterIn theaters on September 10Lastly, we have a somber, thoughtful drama from writer-director Paul Schrader, whose last film, First Reformed, was such a stunner that everyone was clamoring to see what he d do next. Oscar Isaac stars as a card-playing ex-con who runs into young man (Tye Sheridan) with a dark connection to his past life in the military and attempts to set him on a path to redemption. The film just had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, and reviews thus far have been glowing, making it a solid choice to round out the top five of the month.Thumbnail by Marvel StudiosOn an Apple device?
