Can Black Panther secure a Best Picture nod though countless other comic-book films have fallen short? Will Bradley Cooper join Warren Beatty and James L. Brooks as the only directors to earn nominations for Best Director, Screenplay, and Best Picture with a debut film? Can Alfonso Cuarón top that with five personal nominations – Best Picture, Director, Editor, Screenplay, and Cinematographer?Check back with Rotten Tomatoes Tuesday January 22 at 5:20am PST / 8:20am EST to watch the nominations announcement live stream, and follow us on social all day for reactions and our takes on the biggest snubs and surprises. After what has been a fairly eventful season – we ve had gaffes, Twitter controversies, accusations of historical inaccuracies – it s difficult to predict exactly what will happen when Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross announce the nominees. But after careful consideration, we here at RT have narrowed down our picks for who will be nominated – as well as who should be nominated – in the major categories. We looked to our Awards Leaderboard and the Tomatometer for guidance, along with historical voting patterns, the state of the conversation right now, and insights from the Rotten Tomatoes staff. “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” (55%, season 5, episode 6) feature low-key weddings. In fact, the latter is the lowest-scoring GoT episode, largely due, it seems, to Ramsay Bolton s deplorable acts after his wedding to Sansa Stark.Tip: Big weddings are more popular with critics. Keep the slaughter and violence broad and relatively impersonal. The Longer the Episode, the Higher the Tomatometer Average(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)Only 12 episodes in the series have running times of 60 minutes or more, but they have a very Fresh 95% average. That’s slightly higher than the 94.1% average of the shorter episodes that don’t cross the one-hour mark. Four of the six GoT season 8 episodes have running times of more than an hour — and they’re all a super-sized 78 minutes or more. Only two previous episodes (season 7’s “Beyond the Wall” and “The Dragon and the Wolf”) have gone beyond the 75-minute mark, and the results are an 85.5% average Tomatometer score — which is almost Rotten by GoT standards. The rest of the episodes average 95%.Fortunately, four of season 8 s six episodes will be longer than 60 minutes. The Writer With the Highest Average Might Surprise You(Photo by Macall B. Polay/HBO)Showrunners Weiss and Benioff wrote 46 of the 67 episodes together, and have a 94.8% Tomatometer average. The writers who contributed to the other 21 episodes include Bryan Cogman (10 episodes), George R.R. Martin himself (four episodes), Vanessa Taylor (three episodes), Dave Hill (three episodes), and Jane Espenson (one episode, written alongside Weiss and Benioff). While Espenson’s single episode earned a 100%, the others average around the same: Taylor at 95%, Hill at 94.3%, Martin at 95%, and Cogman at 93.8%. (It s worth noting that without the season 5 outlier “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” however, Cogman’s average for his remaining nine episodes would be the second-highest at 97.4% after Espenson s single entry.)Taylor went on to write the screenplay for the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water, and Espenson became the co-executive producer on Once Upon a Time. Martin, of course, continues to frustrate rabid fans demanding his next book. He s also collaborating on the show s prequel series, starring Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, Jamie Campbell Bower, and more.Related: Everything We Know About HBO s Game of Thrones Prequel”With Directors, the First Is the Best(Photo by HBO)Only one of the 19 directors who have tackled GoT episodes so far has averaged 100% — that’s Tim Van Patten, who helmed the first two installments of the first season. The veteran TV director (The Sopranos, The Wire, Black Mirror, and plenty more prestige series) was brought in to reshoot the disastrous pilot episode that was a deemed a “MASSIVE PROBLEM.” Van Patten helped pull off the “biggest rescue in Hollywood history” by smoothing many of the rough edges and successfully introducing the characters and world to the audience. Under his supervision “Winter Is Coming” and “The Kingsroad” laid a perfect foundation for the show to grow. The other top directors include Alex Graves (six episodes, 98.8%), Daniel Minahan (five episodes, 97.2%), David Nutter (six episodes, 96.5%), David Petrarca (two episodes, 96%), and Miguel Sapochnik (four episodes, 96%). Director Alan Taylor, who has directed the most Game of Thrones episodes, shares the distinction of having directed four episodes with 100% Tomatometer scores, along with Graves. (Taylor s Beyond the Wall, while still high at 82%, brought down his average to 94.4% — which is like complaining that your New York City penthouse apartment on Central Park sucks because its floor-to-ceiling windows only wrap around three sides of the building.)Nutter, Sapochnik, and Benioff and Weiss are directing the final six episodes of season 8. With four 100% episodes between them, they should certainly be able to find a way for GoT to go out on top with a 95% or above finale.Tyrion Lannister Drinks, Knows Things, and Plays an Integral Part in the 100% Tomatometer Rated EpisodesTyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is the go-to guy for 100% episodes because he’s appeared in 21 of the 22 perfect episodes and played a major part in the sections mentioned above. He was heavily featured in director Tim Van Patten’s two 100% episodes and in each of the fourth episodes with 100% scores. He also played an integral part in the two 100% Tomatometer episodes written by George R.R. Martin that feature battles ( Blackwater ) and very expensive weddings ( The Lion and the Rose ). What makes Tyrion the MVP are his appearances in Blackwater and Battle of the Bastards. They are highest-rated episodes that take place in only one or two locations (a very good thing). Basically, you want Tyrion appearing in any episode for any reason.Nudity, Major Deaths, Pie, Direwolves and CameosAfter sorting through all the GoT episodes, we learned there are several side elements that make positive Tomatometer contributions to the series. The episodes featuring pie consumption (99.1%), famous musician cameos (97.1%), Stark or Lannister death at a wedding (100%), or a direwolf being killed onscreen (99% Summer in The Door and Grey Wind in The Rains of Castamere ) have great Tomatometer averages. However, we did learn that certain favorite GoT elements or characters don’t move the Tomatometer needle; for instance, episodes featuring main or recurring characters getting naked (93.7%) or being killed (94.4%) don’t have the best Tomatometer averages comparatively.Appearances of the Night King also trend lower at 93.4%. Only two episodes have a 100% score, revealing that it s actually best to feature him during a battle episode ( Hardhome ) or a wedding episode ( The Lion and the Rose ).How to Build a Perfect 100% Fresh Game of Thrones EpisodeBased on the statistics and observations above, we’ve come up with an equation that adds up to a perfect Game of Thrones episode:Make it 61-62 minutes long + air it as the fourth episode + hire Tim Van Patten to direct it + include a major battle or fight in which the heroes suffer major losses + tack on a very expensive wedding + make sure George R.R. Martin writes the script + include Tyrion Lannister + limit the story to one or two locations + kill a direwolf + eat a pie = 100% Fresh Tomatometer score.Game of Thrones’ eighth and final season premieres Sunday, April 14 at 9 p.m. on HBO.Like this? He’s a larger-than-afterlife presence, making him an excellent foe for Fraser’s enthusiastic determination. It Shares the Same Exaggerated Gung-Ho Sense of Exploration(Photo by Universal Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)Indiana Jones is a bad archeologist, but he’s an amazing hero. Same with O’Connell and Evie, who are destructive grave robbers even by 1920s standards. That’s not the point of these films, though. The point is to go on an adventure, using the past and exaggerated mysteries of foreign lands as inspiration.Watching O’Connell scream into a decomposing mummy’s face or watching Indy knock a Nazi into some propellers is a hoot, but the battles aren t necessarily what make the films so memorable. It’s the journey into the unknown, following our friendly heroes into archaic, unfamiliar terrain. The matinée serials and pulp magazines both franchises draw from harken back to a very specific era for exploration, one that didn’t ever truly exist as it appears in pop culture, yet feels very nostalgic. The characters of Indiana Jones and The Mummy both live at a turning point of world history, right at the cusp of what we’d recognize as the modern world. It doesn’t seem like there’s much new to discover, so instead, archaeologists Indy and Evie turn to history. And in the world of these films, there’s far more buried in the past than the modern world expects. It’s a romanticism of sorts, one that’s not without its problems, but it makes for an exciting adventure at the crossroads of the past and the present, the intersection of the known world and the unknown. Both The Mummy and Indiana Jones are Way More Violent Than You Might RememberEven though The Mummy is more of an action-adventure romp than a horror movie like its classic predecessor, there are still plenty of scares and suspenseful moments. Indiana Jones operates on a similar level, because it wouldn’t be as exhilarating to see Indy whip his way through danger unless viewers, on some level, really feared that danger. Still, even if you re aware that The Mummy boasts a few scary moments, if you haven’t rewatched it in a while, you might be shocked at just how violent it is.Raiders of the Lost Ark literally melts a dude’s face off during its climax when the Nazis open up the Ark of the Covenant, and who can forget the horrific sight of Mola Ram extracting a still-beating heart from a poor man s chest with his bare hands in Temple of Doom? Taking a page from the same playbook, The Mummy blasts a bunch of excavators with acid, and that’s just a warm-up. Imhotep steals eyes and tongues from his victims, flesh-eating beetles gorge themselves as they crawl beneath the skin of their victims, and there’s plenty of torture. That the movie is technically pretty bloodless only makes the extent of the other gore even more shocking to watch.Raiders of the Lost Ark is infamously rated PG, as the PG-13 rating hadn’t yet been introduced. The Mummy, on the other hand, does sport a PG-13 rating, but in classic Indiana Jones fashion, it pushes the limit. Archaeology is dangerous, violent business, or so these movies would have you think. But for those of us slogging through our decidedly less exciting everyday lives, adventures like The Mummy and the Indiana Jones franchise before it provided thrills and ignited our imaginations like few others did. We don t get a lot of movies like The Mummy any more, and that s perhaps why lots of folks still remember it with unparalleled affection. The Mummy opened in theaters on May 7, 1999.

(Photo by Jackson Lee Davis/AMC)Despite leading a show like The Walking Dead, in which any character can die at any time, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has survived for nine years. But now that Lincoln has left the show — and will star in his own series of The Walking Dead movies — Daryl (Norman Reedus) is stepping up and a whole new crew of survivors is populating the post-apocalyptic world. An older, Walker-wise Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) and new characters Magna (Nadia Hilker), Yamiko (Eleanor Matsuura), Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Kelly (Angel Theory), and Luke (Dan Fogler) are among the new blood the series has brought in to fill TWD s Rick Grimes–shaped void. The Walking Dead is only the latest show that has had to move on in the wake of a major cast member departure. Throughout TV history, shows have dealt with losing their stars for various reasons — and in some cases the shows grew stronger with the new cast. Not all benefitted from a cast swap, however — there are certainly some duds on Rotten Tomatoes list of the most famous television replacements. Read on to find out who was replaced and why, along with how their departure was explained on screen.22. Beverly Hills, 90210 (Photo by ©Aaron Spelling Prod./Courtesy Everett Collection; Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty, pictured right)The Replacement: Valerie Malone (Tiffani Amber Thiessen, pictured left)The Reason: In 2015 Tori Spelling revealed that she eventually made a call to her father, producer Aaron Spelling, asking him to fire Doherty over her conflicts with the cast and crew. The Explanation: Brenda left for drama school in London. Valerie Malone, a bad girl from Minnesota, came to live with the Walshes for seasons 5 through 10 of 90210. In 1994, Thiessen told press on the set she thought she was cast because “they heard I had a reputation for being easy to work with.”21. Charmed (Photo by ©Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Prue Halliwell (Doherty)The Replacement: Paige (Rose McGowan)The Reason: According to the New York Daily News, Alyssa Milano gave producers of the original WB show (not to be confused with the 2018 reboot) an ultimatum: It was either her or Doherty. The show’s producers said Doherty wanted to leave, and they let her.The Explanation: Prue is killed by demons, and, shortly thereafter, the Halliwells discover a long-lost fourth sister, Paige, who ended up sticking around from season 4 through the show s remaining eight seasons. There s no bad blood on McGowan s part, however: The actress wrote to Doherty via Instagram when Doherty underwent cancer treatment: “The men brainwashed women in our business made it so we couldn t be friends. I regret that.”20. Baywatch (Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: C.J. Parker (Pamela Anderson, pictured)The Replacements: Donna Marco (Donna D’Errico) and Lani McKenzie (Carmen Electra)The Reason: Anderson left Baywatch to focus on being a mother. The Explanation: C.J. Parker got married off the show, and it took two new lifeguards to fill her sandy footprints. While Carmen Electra told Esquire, “I don’t think I was hired as a replacement,” costar Kelly Packard recalled auditions for “a room of Pamela Anderson–looking women” and Traci Bingham said Donna “thought she was Pamela.” Electra was only on the series for one season and D’Errico for two, but the casting proved that a rotating roster of lifeguards could survive long into syndication.19. Anger Management 23%(Photo by FX)Outgoing Character: Kate Wales (Selma Blair)The Replacement: Dr. Jordan Denby (Laura Bell Bundy, pictured)The Reason: TMZ reported that Blair complained to the producers about Sheen’s unprofessional behavior, and Sheen demanded she be fired. Sheen told Jay Leno that Blair was written out because viewers expected the show to be about their relationship. The Explanation: Charlie Goodson (Sheen) stopped seeing Kate for anger management therapy, but went into business with Dr. Denby. Reviews for Anger Management were never all that Fresh (season 1 has a 23% score on 35 reviews), so the switch didn’t seem to change much on the series — except perhaps, given season 2 s three meager reviews, that most critics stopped paying attention.18. Lethal Weapon 89%(Photo by Fox)Outgoing Character: Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford)The Replacement: Wesley Cole (Sean William Scott, pictured)The Reason: Warner Brothers fired Crawford for abusive behavior, which Crawford insisted was only in response to difficulties with costar Damon Wayans. The Explanation: The character of Riggs survived four films and a perma-rumored fifth, but on TV he was shot and killed. Scott told EW, “For a lot of fans that are upset that they’re not going to see Riggs, which I totally understand, I really believe they’re going to feel ‘OK, they handled it in a way that’s really respectful to that character and what he means to the show.’”17. Criminal Minds (Photo by CBS)Outgoing Character: Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin)The Replacement: David Rossi (Joe Mantegna, pictured)The Reason: Patinkin said that the violent subject matter of the murder-centric series was “destructive to my soul.”The Explanation: Mirroring Patinkin s own experience, Gideon also left the Behavioral Analysis Unit due to emotional distress. His former partner Rossi has filled in ever since and continues to lead the show in its 14th season.16. Chicago Hope (Photo by CBS)Outgoing Character: Dr. Jeffrey Geiger (Mandy Patinkin)The Replacement: Dr. Kate Austin (Christine Lahti, pictured)The Reason: Patinkin wanted to be with his family in New York, while Hope filmed in Los Angeles. The Explanation: Geiger resigned after he couldn’t save Alan Birch (Peter MacNicol) from a gunshot wound, although the show insisted Dr. Austin was not replacing him. Unlike Criminal Minds, Patinkin did return for guest appearances on Chicago Hope.15. Nashville 91%(Photo by CMT)The Character: Rayna James (Connie Britton)The Replacements: Alyssa Greene (Rachel Bilson, pictured) and Jessie Craine (Kaitlin Doubleday)The Reason: When the series was canceled by ABC and moved to CMT, Britton decided to leave the show, working with the writers to give Rayna a dramatic finale. The Explanation: Rayna died in the hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Doubleday s singer/songwriter Jessie Craine and Bilson s Highway 65 record label exec Alyssa Greene joined the cast in the series fifth season, with Bilson leaving at the end of that season and Doubleday staying on through the sixth and final year.Doubleday prepared for the worst when she entered the show, she told The Boot: “If everyone hates me, it doesn’t matter. It’s a paycheck. I’ve felt pretty at home since the day I got here.”Interestingly, Britton left 9-1-1 after only one season, and Jennifer Love Hewitt stepped in as a new call center operator. She also appeared in only the first of eight seasons of Ryan Murphy s American Horror Story anthology series, while other stars from season 1, like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Jessica Lange, formed something like a troupe and continued with the show.14. CHARLIE’S ANGELS(Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Jill Munroe (Farrah Fawcett, pictured left)The Replacement: Kris Munroe (Cheryl Ladd, pictured right)The Reason: When Fawcett left the show, she said it was because it prevented her from growing as an actor. Producer Aaron Spelling sued her for million. The Explanation: Jill resigned from the Angels to become a race-car driver, and — wouldn’t you know it? — she also has a sister named Kris who s fresh out of the police academy. Ratings held steady enough with Ladd, but dwindled when other new Angels started to rotate in during the final seasons, including Shelly Hack replacing Kate Jackson, and then Tanya Roberts replacing Hack.13. Beauty and the Beast (Photo by ©Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Catherine (Linda Hamilton, pictured)The Replacement: Diana (Jo Anderson)The Reason: Hamilton left the series, which ran from 1987 to 1990, when she was pregnant. The Explanation: Catherine was killed, leaving her love, Vincent (Ron Perlman), heartbroken. Diana offered a potential new love interest, but many fans felt the magic left with Hamilton. Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin wrote for the show and told THR, You can’t do two seasons of telling the world, This is a love story for the ages, this is Romeo and Juliet, and then suddenly third seasons say, Juliet? Forget Juliet. It’s Romeo and Harriet.' 12. THE HOGAN FAMILY(Photo by ©Lorimar/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Valerie Hogan (Valerie Harper, pictured)The Replacement: Sandy Hogan (Sandy Duncan)The Reason: Wrongful termination, as Harper was vindicated in court. The Explanation: You would think star Valerie Harper would be safe playing Valerie Hogan on a show called Valerie, but Valerie Hogan died in an automobile accident. Michael Hogan’s (Josh Taylor) sister Sandy came to live with Valerie’s Family, later renamed (again) The Hogan Family. At the time, Duncan told UPI she didn’t know there was any controversy: “The story I got before I agreed to do the show was that Valerie had left the series. Valerie and I have known each other for years. And while we were never friends, we were friendly. And I m relieved to know she has told people the dispute is not my problem. I refuse to be on the hot seat.”Despite Harper’s victory, the show lasted four more seasons, including one on CBS, without her.11. M*A*S*H (Photo by ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Henry Blake (McLean Stevenson)The Replacement: Sherman Potter (Harry Morgan, pictured)The Reason: NBC promised Stevenson more money, but subsequent shows bombed and Stevenson regretted leaving M*A*S*H after just three seasons. The Explanation: Blake was tragically shot down while returning home. Sherman Potter joined the M.A.S.H. unit for the rest of its eight seasons, and its spinoff AfterMASH. Morgan had impressed the producers when he guest-starred as a different character in the third season premiere.10. Three's Company (Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Chrissy Snow (Suzanne Somers, pictured)The Replacement: Cindy Snow (Jenilee Harrison)The Reason: Somers got fired for asking for pay equal to John Ritter in the fifth season. The Explanation: Chrissy also had a sister we’d never met before. The show went on for eight total seasons and a spinoff, Three’s a Crowd.9. Spin City 67%Outgoing Character: Mike Flaherty (Michael J. Fox)The Replacement: Charlie Crawford (Charlie Sheen)The Reason: Fox’s real-life battle with Parkinson’s.The Explanation: Mike became an environmental lobbyist for senator Alex P. Keaton (if only we’d gotten a scene of them together!), and Mayor Winston (Barry Bostwick) got a new deputy, Charlie Crawford (Sheen). Sheen earned the show a younger audience, according to The New York Times. Sheen told the paper, “I’m just glad people are responding. I can’t comment on what they’re responding to.” Spin City went two more seasons and Fox returned as a guest star.8. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit 78%(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Det. Elliot Stabler (Meloni, pictured)The Replacement: Det. Nick Amaro (Pino)The Reason: Meloni and NBC couldn’t come to terms on a new contract. The Explanation: Stabler retired, so Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) needed a new partner. Nick Amaro was that partner, and stayed on the job for four seasons. SVU has made it to 20 seasons, matching the original Law Order.7. Law & Order (Photo by NBC)Outgoing Character: DA Benjamin Stone (Michael Moriarty)The Replacement: DA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston, pictured)The Reason: Moriarty claimed he was forced out for speaking out against a meeting Janet Reno had with NBC, believing the Attorney General would impose restrictive laws on television. The Explanation: Stone resigned and McCoy took over. Now it’s hard to imagine the show without Sam Waterston as DA Jack McCoy, and he’s who you’re most likely to see in a syndicated rerun. In 1995, Waterston was on speaking terms with Moriarty. “I have nothing to say about his reasons for leaving,” Waterston told The New York Times. “But I’ve talked to him since, and I think we’re OK.”6. 8 Simple Rules 58%(Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Paul Hennessy (Ritter, pictured)The Replacements: Jim Egan (James Garner) and C.J. Barnes (David Spade)The Reason: Ritter’s sudden death at the age of 54.The Explanation: In the aftermath of Ritter s (and his character s) death, the show added Garner as widow Cate s (Katey Sagal) father, and then Spade as her nephew who came to live with them. The show completed three seasons with the new cast.5. ER (Photo by ©NBC/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Doug Ross (George Clooney, pictured)The Replacement: Luka Kovac (Goran Visnjic)The Reason: Clooney fulfilled his five-year contract with ER, even as he ascended to movie stardom. The Explanation: Ross moved to Seattle after a dispute over being caught helping a mother euthanize her terminal son. The next year, Luka Kovac joined the E.R. an attending physician. Luka even dated Ross love, Nurse Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) until the two reunited (with a surprise Clooney cameo) when Margulies left the show too. The series ran for 10 more years, ending after its 15th season (during which Clooney and several other cast members returned).4. NYPD Blue 83%(Photo by ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Det. John Kelley (David Caruso)The Replacement: Det. Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits, pictured right)The Reason: Caruso got a taste of the movie business and asked for a raise that NYPD Blue brass didn t agree to — especially after only one season. The Explanation: Internal Affairs pushed Kelly off the force, and Simone became Sipowicz s (Dennis Franz) new partner. Eventually, Rick Schroder joined the cast as well. Once Caruso was on CSI: Miami, he admitted he made a mistake leaving NPYD Blue. The modest Smits wouldn’t take credit for the ratings bump after he joined the show. “I don’t think I solely am responsible for that,” Smits told SF Gate in 1995. “But the people at the network are happy.”3. The X-Files 74%(Photo by Shane Harvey/FOX)Outgoing Character: Fox Mulder (David Duchovny, pictured)The Replacement: John Doggett (Robert Patrick)The Reason: Duchovny’s contract was up after seven years, and he was also suing Fox for syndication earnings. He would later return full-time in the 10th season. The Explanation: Mulder got abducted by aliens, of course. Agent Doggett became Scully s (Gillian Anderson) new partner, but without the seven years of rapport and back story, Patrick s Dogett just didn t have the same spark. Some critics, however, are reconsidering his seasons. In 2017, Patrick told People TV he knew the fans weren’t interested in him at first, but “we won ’em over and we got two seasons out of it.” It worked out for X-Files fans, though: Duchovny and Anderson starred in two feature films and then two additional seasons over a decade later.2. Two and a Half Men 65%(Photo by CBS)Outgoing Character: Charlie Harper (Sheen)The Replacement: Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher, pictured)The Reason: Sheen’s public meltdown and lashing out against creator Chuck Lorre. The Explanation: Charlie was murdered by an ex, and the heartbroken billionaire Walden Schmidt took over his share of the rent. Kutcher said after his arrival that he drew a younger and more international audience to the show.“The demos for the show have actually started to skew a little bit younger,” Kutcher said in 2012 after half a season. “I can see a reflection of that on on the social media surfaces. You can actually see the international markets that are going to pop with the show. I think we just opened in Germany this week, and it was double.”Even Angus T. Jones (the titular half-man) left the show for a while after disparaging it publicly. Two and a Half Men was always critic-proof, so it lasted four more years with Walden Schmidt.1. Cheers 87%(Photo by ©Paramount Television/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Diane Chambers (Shelley Long, pictured left)The Replacement: Rebecca Howe (Kirstie Alley, pictured right)The Reason: Long wanted to pursue a movie career and left after five seasons. The Explanation: When Diane left Sam Malone (Ted Danson) before their wedding, he sold the bar to a corporation that put Rebecca Howe in charge, making her Sam’s new romantic foil. It worked. Cheers ran for 11 years total and Alley is arguably even more closely identified with it than Long. The show previously had to fill a void when Nicholas Colosanto died during the third season, which is when Woody Harrelson joined the series.Did we leave out your favorite replacement? Lo(Photo by Gary Hershorn/NYPPA/TSA/POOL; Frazer Harrison/Getty Images; Steve Granitz/WireImage)One – one of the very few – things nearly everyone can agree on is that Tom Hanks rules, and that makes him the perfect host of Celebrating America, the January 20 special that will wrap up inauguration day events for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. The 90-minute show, which will feature appearances by the POTUS and the Veep, will also include Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem, and performances from Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, and Jon Bon Jovi, with more to be named in the coming days. (Photo by Netflix)After waiting almost two years for Mindhunter to return, Netflix dropped nine new episodes of the crime series on August 16, bringing viewers back into the bleak world of the FBI s Behavioral Science Unit. Series executive producer David Fincher directed three episodes of the new season that sees special agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) along with civilian consultant Dr. Wendy Carr (Anna Torv) continue their mission studying serial killers around the country with the goal of creating official protocols in identifying and profiling repeat murderers.Season 2 picks up where season 1 left off, with the gang continuing their killer research — and attempting to keep their personal lives from falling apart in the process. While it s clear they are better at one of those two things, it looks like the group gains some headway with the Bureau as their department profile rises within the FBI.Their main case revolves around the true-life Atlanta Child Murders, involving a serial killer who mainly targeted young black children in the 70s and 80s. As the team investigates an array of gruesome crimes, they visit new serial killers in hopes of gaining new insights into the minds of murderers. While the series is inspired by true events, season 2 introduces real-life figures including Charles Manson, the Son of Sam, the BTK Killer, Wayne Williams, and more.Find out the true story about each of those men in this rundown of the truth behind every killer portrayed in Mindhunter season 2.

7.97.8 4月喜迎those vacancies, Bran is going to “search” for Drogon. We really wanted to see him warg into a dragon this season – alas, it was not to be. Helen Sloan/HBOThe final words of the series are a chant for Sansa: “Queen in the North!” The final image: men, women, and children following Tormund and Jon into the frozen north, as we end where we began, heading into the wilds Beyond the Wall.(Photo by HBO)What was your favorite moment of the finale? A collection of muted victories is the best way to describe the box office over the Presidents’ Day weekend. Alita: Battle Angel might have won the top spot, but a surprising showing for Rebel Wilson rom-com Isn’t It Romantic? could be a victory in and of itself. Queen of the Crop: Alita Wins The Battle, But Could Lose The War (Photo by 20th Century Fox)The Robert Rodriguez/James Cameron collaboration Alita: Battle Angel (59% on the Tomatometer) had been gestating since the early 2000s and was in post-production for nearly two years before its release this weekend. Alita’s .3 million is good enough for 12th all-time over Presidents’ Day weekend, but with its Valentine’s Day opening it stands at million. The film wisely avoided the battle against Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns over the end-of-2018 holiday, though a meager start is not going to calm the waters in the spending department. Clocking in at a reported 0 million budget (not counting distribution costs) means that eyes will be focused on its international output, where it currently stands with an additional million. That’s not a terrible start if its goal was 0 million domestic. It has already surpassed the final grosses of 2017’s Ghost in the Shell (.5 million) and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It would take 2.7 million for Alita to be Rodriguez’s highest-grossing film ever, but it could be at the cost of being his most expensive flop to date as well. Rotten Returns: Happy Death Day Sequel Well Behind Original’s Numbers (Photo by Universal Pictures)Coming in at a shocking low this weekend was Happy Death Day 2U. Blumhouse’s sequel to its million 2017 hit made just million over the four-day weekend, and .7 million since its opening on Wednesday. That is considerably less than the original’s three-day opening weekend of million. Critics were still generally on board with the franchise, as it stands at 67% on the Tomatometer (down from 71% the first time around) and the notoriously cost-efficient Blumhouse is not going to lose too much sleep even after ballooning the budget from .7 million to a whopping million. However, expectations ranging from -30 million for 2U’s first six days amounts to a bummer. The Top Ten And Beyond: Glass Reaches 0 Million, But The Upside Gains (Photo by Universal Pictures)The other new wide release of the week, Isn’t It Romantic?, has managed .8 million since its opening on Valentine’s Day. That’s nearly halfway to the total of star Rebel Wilson’s 2016 rom-com How To Be Single, which finished with .8 million after opening two days before the card-and-flowers holiday. Still, Isn’t It Romantic’s million production is going to need some help to turn a profit for Warner Bros. The studio’s Lego Movie 2: The Second Part grossed .3 million over the four-day weekend. Of films to open between -35 million, its three-day weekend of .2 million was less than Identity Thief, Ransom, and Lethal Weapon 4 — all R-rated films. Those three made between million and million after ten days, while Lego 2 sat at .6 million. The good news is that the animated sequel is not far behind the 0-137 million grosses of that adult fare, but it is still significantly less than both the original film and The Lego Batman Movie. It took 28 days, but M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass finally passed the 0 million mark — on Valentine’s Day. It will soon be joined by The Upside, the first big surprise hit of 2019, which could hit the benchmark by the end of next weekend. For the fifth straight weekend the Kevin Hart/Bryan Cranston remake has dropped less than 30 percent from the previous week, and that’s even with the film dropping 591 theaters this weekend. It’s a feat that Oscar nominee Green Book has pulled off for the ninth straight weekend, with that film’s total box office haul now standing at more than million. Meanwhile, Paramount’s What Men Want is in a position where million would be the lowball for its final gross. This Time Last Year: Black Panther Began Its Run At History (Photo by © Marvel Studios)Black Panther had the fifth-highest opening weekend of all time, with 2 million over the Presidents’ Day weekend. Including the Monday holiday, the Oscar-nominated comic book movie posted a grand total of 2.1 million and was well on its way to becoming the third-highest-grossing domestic title ever. On the lower end that weekend, Aardman Animation suffered a dud with Early Man making just .19 million. PureFlix’s biblical effort, Samson, did not have much strength either with just a .9 million start, but The Greatest Showman continued to flex its muscles by crossing the 0 million mark. Thanks to Ryan Coogler and Marvel the Top Ten films grossed 7.3 million over the weekend and more than 3 million during the four-day holiday. The films averaged 55.2% on the Tomatometer. This year’s Top Ten grossed 5.1 Million over the three-day weekend, 7 million over the four-day, and averaged 60.1% on the Tomatometer. On the Vine: Training Dragons and Wrestlers (Photo by Universal Pictures)Nearly nine years after the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy began, audiences get to see the story’s conclusion with How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Expect it to top the box office next weekend and add to an international total that currently sits at million. The first two films have grossed a worldwide total of .116 billion. Also expanding into wide release is Stephen Merchant’s Fighting with My Family, the story of WWE’s Paige that stars Florence Pugh. The film opened in just four theaters this weekend to 1,625, giving it the highest per-screen-average of the week (.906). Dwayne Johnson produced the film and has a two-scene cameo in the comedy/drama that stands at 88% on the Tomatometer after its “surprise screening” at Sundance in January. The Full Top 10: February 15-18Alita: Battle Angel (2019) 61% – .3 million ( million total)The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) 84% – .3 million (.8 million total)Isn't It Romantic (2019) 70% – .6 million (.8 million total)What Men Want (2019) 41% – .3 million (.6 million total)Happy Death Day 2U (2019) 71% – million (.7 million total)Cold Pursuit (2019) 68% – million (.1 million total)The Upside (2017) 43% – .5 million (.1 million total)Glass (2019) 36% – .6 million (5.2 million total)The Prodigy (2019) 43% – .6 million (.5 million total)Green Book (2018) 77% – .5 million (.4 million total)

(Photo by HBO)Despite stirring speechifying by the Seven Kingdom s newly crowned despot, her death at the hands of the man she loved, and a dragon s moving lament, Game of Thrones went out with a whimper, according to critics. Season 8, Episode 6: "The Iron Throne" 47% is not the worst episode of the series, but it is in the bottom three based on the first reviews of the series finale. With this final entry, the season s current score is well below the 75% score needed to be Certified Fresh, marking the first season in the series history that will not receive the honor. The season is, in fact, now Rotten (updated May 23), which is just stunning given the series track record. Here s what critics had to say about the episode. It Was the Best of Finales (Photo by HBO) It s almost impossible to imagine it ending any other way. — Steve Greene, indieWire After showing us a nightmare for eight seasons, Game of Thrones finally dares to dream of spring. — Sean T. Collins, Rolling Stone A stupendous end that the series deserved. — Mikel Zorrilla, Espinof The series finale, proved largely satisfying after eight seasons of incredible drama. — Todd Gilchrist, Birth.Movies.Death. Read more: Game of Thrones’ Series Finale Best Moments: Breaking the Wheel and a Dragon’s ChoiceIt Was the Worst of Finales(Photo by HBO) As a fan of the TV show, I felt battered into submission. This season has been the same story over and over again: a lot of tin-eared writing trying to justify some of the most drastic story developments imaginable, as quickly as possible. — David Sims, The Atlantic Game of Thrones has lulled us into believing that its women would end up in charge. In the end, it s only Sansa, by sheer force of will, who wears a lesser crown. The wheel hasn t broken; the patriarchy is still alive and well in Westeros. — Anne Cohen, Refinery29 The kindest thing I can say about the Games of Thrones series finale is that it might have satisfied Plato. — Judy Berman, TIME Magazine Gotta say this episode felt more like a season finale than the series finale it was, if only because this last season seemed so isolated from what went before. — Glen Weldon, NPR It s hardly an exit cry of triumph. — Steve Johnson, Chicago TribuneHow Was the Writing and Pacing of the Final Episode?(Photo by HBO) The ending got rushed to the point of a fantasy even greater than the story told given all we had grown to know and love over six seasons (or seven, depending on your view) got torn asunder in the space of six episodes. — Carissa Pavlica, TV Fanatic I liked this episode, and at times I thought it was truly brilliant But the lords and ladies of Westeros picked a new king in five minutes, when we ve spent eight seasons fighting a bloody war over who would sit on the Iron Throne. — Erik Kain, Forbes It was hacky; it was cliched. Every character left standing received a saccharine coda. It was all too simple, too clean, even with a major death and a surprise contender for the Iron Throne. Closure is one thing, but pandering is entirely another. — Kelly Lawler, USA TodayOne second from every episode of Game of Thrones. pic.twitter.com/rFz2CFLwBx Andy Kelly (@ultrabrilliant) May 20, 2019 Like most of Season 8, it felt like a Wikipedia summary more than a full story being told, with only Arya, Sansa, Sam, and Brienne getting endings I can halfway believe. — Gina Carbone,CinemaBlend But the pacing and the hurry to get to the finish line are not the only issues. There are large, gaping holes in the fabric of logic that one just cannot ignore anymore. — Soumya Srivastava, Hindustan Times In dramatic terms, it may have resolved itself with something like indecent haste. But thematically, it made perfect sense. — Karl Quinn, The Age (Australia) In this last season there was too little surprise, too many high-dollar digital theatrics, and less drive to really drill down into the essence of what made Westeros a place where so many people wanted to spend their Sunday nights. — Hillary Kelly, New York Magazine/VultureRead more: Game of Thrones’ Final Season Is Officially Its Worst, According to the TomatometerWho Were the MVPs?(Photo by HBO) That finale was a mixed bag for me. I m not sure how much it made ACTUAL SENSE in terms of how we ve seen this world to work, but Jon ending up back at the Wall with Ghost actually felt to me like one of the best endings for his character. — Huw Fullerton, Radio Times Wow. Drogon understood more about the geopolitical power struggle and human weakness than I would ve thought he did. — Kimberly Roots, TV Line Bran was the king of least resistance, with the added bonus of some superpowers that definitely are real, but which are dubiously useful at best. — Kathryn VanArendonk, New York Magazine/VultureRead more: All Game of Thrones Episodes, Ranked by TomatometerFinal Verdict?(Photo by (Helen Sloan/HBO) This was a largely satisfying conclusion. One could quibble over a couple of plot points, and argue about the reassertion of the show s regressive gender politics. But a piece of entertainment as complex as this was always going to involve some compromise. — Nick Curtis, London Evening Standard Over all, though, it was a solid and largely satisfying wrap-up to one of the most exciting and enthralling TV series ever. — Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times So, yeah, it all worked out in the end, really. Was it perfect? No, because it couldn t be. Was it enough to course-correct some of the more truncated story decisions from this season? Yes, I believe it was. — Tim Goodman, Hollywood Reporter(Photo by HBO) Because the Game of Thrones finale is really a bunch of different endings rolled into one. All the outcomes combined add up to a finale that s sort of bittersweet, just as author George R.R. Martin has been saying all these years. — James Hibberd, Entertainment Weekly After showing us a nightmare for eight seasons, Game of Thrones finally dares to dream of spring. — Sean T. Collins, Rolling Stone It s not quite the dream of spring we might ve hoped for, but it s not a disaster either. And now our watch has ended. — Laura Prudom, IGN MoviesDid you agree with the critics? Tell us in the comments!Game of Thrones season 8 is available to stream on demand, on HBO Go, and on HBO Now.

365bet体育 Identity was a major theme in the Nov. 30 episode of Titans, Donna Troy. Kory (Anna Diop) was trying to recover her memory, Gar (Ryan Potter) was reconciling what it means to become a tiger, Rachel (Teagan Croft) was finally getting some time to know her mother, Angela (Rachel Nichols), and Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) was facing his own shattered identity after a recent run-in with the new Robin (Curran Walters) and the terror he experienced at the Organization’s asylum. Who better to talk to about these issues than the former Wonder Girl and Dick s oldest friend, Donna Troy, a comic book character defined as much by the constant revisions made to her identity as her constant presence in the Teen Titans line of comic books? On the show, Donna seems to be a rock-solid ex-superhero sidekick, but her history in the comics is not exactly set in stone. Rotten Tomatoes spoke with Conor Leslie, the world’s first live-action Donna Troy, about her comic book counterpart s crazy past and just who the character is in the world of Titans.Who Is Wonder Girl?(Photo by DC Universe)The concept of Wonder Girl predates Donna Troy. In 1958’s Wonder Woman #105, Wonder Girl was introduced as a younger version of Diana for a flashback tale. By 1961, Wonder Woman comics featured stories in which the grown up Diana, Wonder Girl, and even a Wonder Tot appeared simultaneously in an attempt to give Wonder Woman more of a domestic home life — even if her family was composed of these younger versions of herself and her mother Hippolyta. This original intention changed as writer Bob Haney began to treat Wonder Girl as a separate character and included her as a founding member of the Teen Titans in 1965’s The Brave and the Bold #60. The Diana version of Wonder Girl made one last appearance that same year in Wonder Woman #158, where she and Wonder Tot were seemingly “killed” by Wonder Woman editor Robert Kanigher.Wonder Girl transferred into the Teen Titans cast, but her name and new origin remained a mystery until 1969’s Teen Titans #22, when writer Marv Wolfman gave Wonder Girl the name “Donna Troy” and a backstory: She was an orphan Diana rescued from a burning building and took to Themyscira to be raised as an Amazon. The group of warrior women later gave her abilities similar to Wonder Woman via a fanciful bit of science-fiction convenience. But because the Wonder Girl character is older than Donna Troy, the character’s origins, powers, and motivations have always been malleable. Those changes are a major point Leslie noted while researching her new TV character.“As soon as I [started reading], I got overwhelmed because her backstory changes so dramatically,” she told Rotten Tomatoes. “I paused early on and talked to [producer and showrunner] Greg Walker to see where he and Geoff Johns wanted to go with all of this. If I had continued to fill my head with more information, it would’ve made my mind implode.”The 1987 revision of Wonder Woman s origin turned Donna into an active character that existed before Wonder Woman debuted in the new history, ushering in a revolving door of concepts to explain how there was a Wonder Girl before a Wonder Woman. For a time, she was a duplicate of Diana created as a playmate who was later kidnapped and placed in suspended animation, an incomplete fusion of other Donna
