bob足球网址采用百度引擎0(Baidu 8)The industry was holding its breath to see how this weekend’s new theatrical exclusive entries would perform. This weekend was the first time during the pandemic that three new movies were released in over 2,000 theaters without a single streaming entity making them available at home. With COVID-19 cases again on the rise, the weekend was likely going to be a barometer for studios to decide how to manage their fall and holiday releases. We’re not out of the woods yet, but one film did just enough to allow those eyeing delays on their schedules to exhale for a moment.King of the Crop: Free Guy Passes Pandemic Test and Gives Theaters Much-Needed HopeEverything is on notice after The Suicide Squad underperformed last week. If a high-concept, (mostly) family-friendly film like Free Guy that can only be seen in theaters could not pull in a decent number this weekend, just how willing would the folks behind No Time To Die, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Top Gun: Maverick be to gamble on reduced attendance if the COVID-19 numbers kept trending upwards?Hope was struck on Friday morning when the numbers showed that Free Guy, which Disney took on after acquiring Fox but did not make available via Premier Access on Disney+, sold .2 million worth of tickets Thursday night. With those numbers in hand it was time to start predicting the weekend haul. Charting 16 PG-13 films that had previously grossed million-.4 million in Thursday night previews, the average opening gross was .5 million; only three of those films went on to have weekends under million, and, of the five that opened over million, four of them were sequels. So between million and million felt right for Free Guy. Earlier in the week, many felt anything under million would give industry folk pause, but when analysts began downgrading expectations to under million, the film was given a solid cushion to land on. When the numbers came in on Sunday, revealing Free Guy pulled in .4 million for the weekend, it felt like a real triumph.(Photo by 20th Century Studios)That is the seventh-best opening of the pandemic and not just better than The Suicide Squad last week, but actually the best opening for an original film. (The word “original” being used a little loosely here as one can recognize Tron, Wreck-It-Ralph, The Truman Show, and They Live amongst its influences. But, still, unlike Black Widow, F9, A Quiet Place Part II, Jungle Cruise, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Space Jam: A New Legacy, it is neither a sequel, prequel, reboot, nor based on existing IP – like a ride.)It is too soon to call the legs on this one. No film yet that has made less than million in its first 10 days during the pandemic has reached 0 million. Then again, Free Guy is likely to remain no. 1 for a second straight week, remain in the top five for its first full month, and stick around in the top 10 at least until the beginning of October. It will all depend how severe the drops are, which will likely be based on how comfortable everyone continues to be going to theaters.Rotten Returns: The Suicide Squad May Not Finish the Mission (Photo by Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures/™ © DC Comics)Whether it s concern over the rise of the Delta variant, the lure of staying home and catching it on HBO Max, or some lack of interest in the latest DCEU movie – despite it being Certified Fresh at 91%, among the best-reviewed movies in that universe – The Suicide Squad continues to underperform. The movie experienced a 70% drop from last weekend and fell to fifth place with .7 million. With just .9 million in its first 10 days, it is trailing what The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It had in the bank at the same time (not to mention that movie scored a .3 million second weekend). Looking at August releases historically, The Suicide Squad is charting a similar-looking path to the 2012 remake of Total Recall, which dropped 68.7% in its second weekend to million and had .1 million. It finished with .8 million. As suggested last week, in normal times without a pandemic and without a day-and-date streaming option, The Suicide Squad would have likely had an opening weekend higher than that even with the most conservative of estimates. With those variables in place it appears it may not even top million total. The Top 10 and Beyond: Jungle Cruise On Track to be Disney s Second Pandemic 0 Million Movie(Photo by courtesy of Disney. © 2021 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.)Last week we gave Disney’s Jungle Cruise a puncher’s chance of making it to 0 million and it is definitely punching. It made million this weekend, giving it million after 17 days; that is a great number in that no film released in July or August to have at least million in that stretch failed to eventually clear 0 million. It would be Disney’s second film with a simultaneous Disney+ Premier Access release, after Black Widow, to reach the milestone. Cruella, which had a similar release and just signed Emma Stone for a sequel, is also the sixth highest-grossing film of the pandemic with over million.Moving over to the new titles of the week. Don’t Breathe 2 s .6 million may have looked good when the best the genre was getting was The Unholy and Separation. But the pandemic has given us a mild stretch with the third Conjuring, The Forever Purge, and Old, in which fans seemed ready to make the genre something of a box office over-performer. Still, Don’t Breathe 2 looks to be more in the Spiral and Escape Room: Tournament of Champions realm, a sequel few people felt they needed, and which could underperform. That .6 million start (aided in part by a “hey, let’s go see it on Friday the 13th contingent) is far less than the original’s triumphant .4 million start in August 2016 on its way to over million. The sequel will be hopeful to end up in the million- million range. The release of the Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, with Jennifer Hudson, delivered something of a blow to the kind of mid-range films for adults – which could be the big box office story going forward coming out of 2021. The ceiling is not being raised for these films and the .8 million Respect made is more evidence that age groups outside of those typically targeted by studios are taking their time when it comes to a night out at the movies. M. Night Shyamalan’s Old breaking million feels like a legit standout at this point versus all the IP making up the current theatrical cashflow. In the Heights, Wrath of Man, and Nobody all earned between million and million (all better than Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins), and Respect may join them, but how long will studios hold on to these kind of alternatives as theatrical exclusives (Heights notwithstanding) before day-and-date streaming helps them out sooner? On the Vine: Action, Mystery, Thrills, and the Paw PatrolArguably the biggest title opening on a very crowded weekend will be Paw Patrol: The Movie. But with it streaming concurrently on Paramount+, how much of a splash will this really make? (Remember that Paramount moved Clifford the Big Red Dog off the schedule from September due to “Delta concerns” but left this one to take its chances in August.) One thing Paw Patrol has on its side? A 100% Fresh Tomatometer Score, so far. Also streaming while in theaters next week is the Hugh Jackman sci-fi tale, Reminiscence. It will be on HBO Max. That leaves a pair of R-rated thrillers to take a shot at the mid-range crowd. Lionsgate’s The Protégé, from action director Martin Campbell, stars Maggie Q, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson. And then there is David Bruckner’s The Night House, from Searchlight Pictures; the horror film premiered at Sundance in 2020 and currently has a Fresh Tomatometer score of 84%.Full List of Box Office Results: August 13-15, 2021

(Photo by Focus Features)The Venice International Film Festival, the longest-running film fest in Europe, kicks off on Wednesday after successfully executing a tamer, smaller affair amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. La Biennale di Venezia, as it s called in Italy, will look to mirror the success of the Cannes Film Festival, which was able to bring the glitz and glamour back to the French Riviera earlier this summer.Though the spread of the Delta variant at home and abroad has tempered the hopes many had of the fall festival circuit returning to normal, this year s Venice lineup, with much of the A-list talent expected to attend, has gone a long way towards alleviating those fears. Venice serves as the unofficial starter pistol for the fall awards season, and a good showing there could increase audience anticipation dramatically. As with Cannes, many marquee titles that have been pushed off for several months will use the festival to gain buzz ahead of their world premieres. Have you heard about a little film from Denis Villeneuve called Dune?Kidding aside, we are also more than a little excited about smaller offerings from auteurs like Pedro Almodóvar (Parallel Mothers) and Paolo Sorrentino (The Hand of God) that are also set to premiere this week. Today, however, we focus on those buzzy titles that have already captured the attention of the public and punditry, sight unseen. Many of these titles have lofty box office and awards season ambitions, and in just a few days, we ll have word on the odds for them to achieve those aspirations. In the meantime, read on for our picks for the six buzziest films set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

(Photo by LOIC VENANCE/AFP/Getty Images)For first-timers and newcomers to Cannes, the festival can be overwhelming – so many screenings, so many people, so many parties! To help critics and journalists navigate the wild world of the French Riviera in May, we asked IndieWire Executive Editor – a longtime Cannes attendee – to give us his top tips for those heading to the festival this year. Be patient, and roll with the chaos. Cannes is the most exciting film festival in the world — a dense, hectic convergence of the global film industry along a small stretch of land by the French Riviera — but that chaos can be overwhelming, tiring, and often lead to frustrating scenarios. Ushers can be rude to you. Lines get long. It’s hot. Any attempt to see several movies in one day and squeeze in other activities, whether it’s writing on deadline or attending a few parties, will result in an insane 12-hours–plus schedule that can lead to levels of exhaustion you never knew existed. But that’s Cannes! The history of this place, the deep love for cinema as an art form, and the sheer range of countries and cultures stuffed into a fairly palatable lineup is unparalleled. This festival is in love with its legacy, and if you give yourself over to the rough ride and do the best you can, you’ll fall in love with it, too. Get ready to wait in line. The color-coded Cannes accreditation system tends to relegate newcomers to lower tiers; don’t take it personally. For most of films in the “Official Selection” at Cannes — generally speaking, Competition, Un Certain Regard, Cannes Classics, and Special Screenings — you will have to wait in a line that corresponds to your badge color. That usually means yellow and blue badges in one line, pink badges in another line, and “rose pastille” (pink with a yellow dot) and white badges in another line. If you aren’t in that last tier, you should always plan to line up at least an hour early.Make your schedule carefully, and then leave room from improvisation. Even if you’re really judicious about lining up early, chances are pretty strong you still might not get into a movie you want to see. Sometimes, one screening starts so soon after another that you won’t be able to line up early, anyway; in other situations, your accreditation may force to wait far back in line and by the time it’s your turn, the theater has filled up. In the amount of time you waste throwing a tantrum (and trust me, you’ll see some tantrums), you could be finding a much more productive use of your time. Check the schedule, see if there’s anything else screening in the near future, and take a chance on it. You’ll have plenty of options. Which leads me to the next item on this list…Explore Directors’ Fortnight, Critics’ Week, and ACID. This is very important: The range of non-English–language cinema at Cannes is staggering, especially if you’re a journalist from North America, where so few non-English–language movies open throughout the year. Take this as a responsibility: Yes, you want to see the high-profile, buzzy titles in Competition, but if you have any flexibility, look for unknown variables in the other sections. By covering them, you are playing a role in pushing them to more audiences (and potentially distributors as well). Fortnight (otherwise known as “Quinzaine”) and Critics’ Week (“Semaine de la Critique”) are as essential to the Cannes experience as the main selection. They’re both located a little further down the Croisette (in the opposite direction of the Palais) at the JW Marriot and the Palais Stephanie, respectively. Fortnight tends to be filled with a handful of notable directors who, for one reason or another, didn’t make the cut in the Official Selection; it’s also a neat opportunity to discover new directors from around the world, and edgier films that may or may not find their way to the U.S. (although, if you choose to write about them, that could play a role in the outcome). Critics’ Week only screens first and second features, so it’s one of the best places in Cannes to discover newcomers. And ACID, a younger section that has gained traction in recent years, is a smaller lineup that tends to showcase low-budget films with very different sensibilities than you’ll find at the rest of the festival.bob足球网址并不只有《英雄联盟》老玩家或者MOBA游戏爱好者注意到了LOLM的上线,作为单机游戏发烧友——魂系爱好者,随意抱着试一试的心态,喜提八连胜。在随意看来,部分端游玩家出现的手游不适应现象,并不是其操作不适应,而是对于手游逻辑、节奏的不适应。

Peter Mayhew, who portrayed Chewbacca in every Star Wars movie appearance from A New Hope to The Force Awakens, has passed away at the age of 74.Born May 1944 in England, Mayhew grew to over 7 feet tall, which landed him his first acting gig at age 33 in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. That movie whose box office success could be described as mild, was utterly infinitesimal to Mahew s other release that year: the original Star Wars. Despite never seeing his face, Mayhew and Chewbacca became synonymous with Force devotees, as he was among the most approachable and accepting of the fandom lifestyle between his co-stars. Mayhew appeared as Chewie in all three original trilogy movies, Revenge of the Sith, and even the legendary Star Wars Holiday Special. His final appearance as the galax s favorite Wookiee was The Force Awakens, a role he shared with Joonas Suotamo, who s taken over The Last Jedi onward.Mayhew s family announced his passing in a heartfelt tweet and letter:The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away. On March 2, 1984, the world was blessed by the hilarious mocku-rockumentary This Is Spinal Tap (Certified Fresh at 95%). Utilizing largely improvisational dialogue, director Rob Reiner and writers and cast members Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, and Michael McKean created a brilliant documentary about one of the world’s worst fake rock bands. While underappreciated at first (many early viewers thought the documentary was real and complained that it “wasn’t about a popular band like Led Zeppelin”), the film has gone on to become a comedy cult classic. Now, on its 35th anniversary, we look back on what makes This Is Spinal Tap one of the greatest and most influential music films, comedies, and mockumentaries of all time.It Was GroundbreakingMockumentaries have existed in some form before This Is Spinal Tap; The Beatles’ 1964 classic A Hard Day’s Night (98%) was filmed in a mockumentary style, and Woody Allen’s Zelig (100%) marked a significant step forward towards realism in the genre. But, it wasn’t until This Is Spinal Tap in 1984 that the genre was perfected. While not a huge box office hit, This Is Spinal Tap was critically acclaimed, landing on multiple Best of 1984 lists, and it boasts a Certified Fresh 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its status as a genre-defining piece of art has only solidified all the more in the decades since its release. The success of This Is Spinal Tap led to the celebrated filmmaking career of writer, director, and Spinal Tap lead guitarist Christopher Guest. With the same improvisational style and much of the same cast, Guest has since written and directed Certified Fresh mockumentaries like Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show, and A Mighty Wind. But the influence and acclaim extends far beyond the members of the band.(Photo by Universal Pictures)In recent years, we have seen an uptick in both the quality and the prevalence of mockumentary content. Sacha Baron Cohen s Borat was a cultural phenomenon that made nearly 0 million, scored a Certified Fresh 91% on the Tomatometer, and apparently will be quoted until the end of time; The Lonely Island s Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping took This Is Spinal Tap from 80s rock into the Bieber-fied 21st century; and Taika Waititi s What We Do In The Shadows was a quirky Sundance hit that crossed over to the mainstream with critical acclaim and spawned a television spinoff, set to premiere later this month. These three films and a number of popular current mockumentary TV programs like Documentary Now! (94%) and American Vandal (98%) all owe a debt to This Is Spinal Tap for its influence on comedy. Sitcoms like The Office or Parks Recreation might never have been as successful without the groundwork laid by Spinal Tap. And if there were no Office or American Vandal, what would the millions of millennials mainline on Netflix before bed? Would they have no reason to subscribe? And if not, would Netflix streaming ever have taken off the way it did? And if there’s no streaming content, would we all still be getting our DVDs through the mail? Now, we re not saying that This Is Spinal Tap is the reason that Roma exists, but it’s definitely one of the reasons that Best In Show, Borat, and American Vandal all exist.Real Rock Stars Understand It(Photo by Sony Pictures Classics courtesy Everett Collection)It might come as a surprise, but despite the less than stellar picture of rock-and-rollers that This Is Spinal Tap paints, many of the bands and musicians it lampoons have seen it and feel strongly about it.Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said of the film, “When we watched Spinal Tap, my wife and I saw it, and we fell on the floor. It was great. Every bit is brilliant as it was supposed to be. So good.” On the other hand, frontman Steven Tyler didn’t find it so funny, saying, “That movie bummed me out, because I thought, ‘How dare they? That’s all real, and they’re mocking it.’”In the documentary It Might Get Loud, U2 guitarist The Edge said, “It s so hard to keep things fresh, and not to become a parody of yourself. And if you ve ever seen that movie Spinal Tap, you will know how easy it is to parody what we all do. The first time I ever saw it, I didn t laugh. I wept. I wept because I recognized so much and so many of those scenes.”The phrase “Spinal Tap Moment” has even entered the rock lexicon. It Made Rob Reiner into a Director(Photo by Columbia Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)Prior to directing This Is Spinal Tap, Rob Reiner was best known as Michael Stivic, the meathead son-in-law of Archie Bunker in the hit sitcom All In The Family. While he played this role to great s

According to Convery, the series is very much “a magical adventure with friends saving the world.”That description may surprise fans of Lemire’s comic, which the author described as “a little more violent and darker, in general.” But as Mickle developed the series alongside Arrow veteran Schwartz, he kept Lemire apprised of the tonal change, which he came to appreciate as apocalyptic stories became a larger TV genre in the 10 years since he completed the Sweet Tooth comic. “Just to do it like that again might feel like the same thing we d seen a thousand times. And so I think reinventing the tone a little bit to reflect today rather than where we were even a decade ago was the right move.”Part of that reinvention is the regular presence of James Brolin’s voice as an unseen narrator. In the first part of the season, he appears to bookend the episodes and offer some commentary as new characters are introduced. Brolin’s older, relaxed voice definitely sets a tone, although Mickle once again credited Lemire with the notion of a narrator. “Jeff uses every tool in the toolbox in terms of telling stories: voiceover, elliptical storytelling, poetry, seriality, dreams. He does everything,” he explained. In the original comic, that narration could switch among the various characters or even an omniscient voice presiding over everything. That latter voice appealed to Mickle as it allowed him to tie the journey of Gus and Jeppard – and their emerging bond – to the stories of characters they may not meet for awhile. “With the nature of all this, it felt like there was a storybook and a fairy tale thing coming from the story that we could pull out of the comic book. And that felt like an opportunity to kind of unify it or help guide us through that. Schwartz added: “It helps set the tone as well for this fairy tale dystopia that we re telling, and it gives a slight magical element to it.” But It Still Has Room For Suburban Horror(Photo by © Netflix)While Gus’s journey has that magic to it, Dr. Aditya Singh (Adeel Akhtar) faces something more akin to suburban horror. He has memories of the old world and he is surrounded by a stitched-together community trying to preserve some sense of it, providing for a dystopian atmosphere with its own forms of terror. Meanwhile, he is also tasked with researching the disease which led to the fall of civilization – a role he shares with his comic book counterpart.“I do love what they did with Singh,” Lemire said. As he recalled, the Singh of the comics was much further along on his “path” when he becomes part of its narrative. “In the comic, we needed him at a point where he s already on the path, but I never really told his origin story so much.” That origin story as presented on the television series may surprise readers, but according to Lemire, it gives him such an emotional breadth and his relationship with his wife, Rani, is so rich on screen.” He even admitted he wished he had the time to explore the Singhs the way the show does. It s such a rich story line that it s probably my favorite as well, he added. But worry not fans of Singh or his place in the comics: Lemire said the character will likely find himself in similar circumstances and the suburban horror he faces may change out for another horrific situation. Its Main Antagonist Will Be Familiar Voice Even If His Face Is Unrecognizable(Photo by © Netflix)Someone who may put Singh on that path is General Abbot, played by a nearly unrecognizable Neil Sandilands. He looks more like REM’s Michael Stipe than the polished Thinker fans of The Flash will remember, but his voice work will recall that other DC villain s brilliance. “Everything about it was the right choice for this part,” Schwartz said.At the same time, the actor’s chameleon-like ability to become another person was also advantageous to the producers as it gave the “left-of-field” character an intriguing new look. Also, as Mickle explained, “this kind of showmanship quality” appeared which solved a problem they were having with casting the part. “[The character] has the gravitas, but also, your hero is a kid with antlers and [deer] ears. So, how do you find someone that can match the visual panache of that?”And so Sandilands gave the character a long beard, which may or may not have been the actor’s own lockdown beard. “When we saw him, we were like, whoa, he s exactly what we didn t realize we want for the character,” Schwartz said.Of course, it is important to recall that Abbot is an antagonist and not necessarily a DC Universe-style villain. But his real reasons for finding hybrid children like Gus will nevertheless chill viewers when it comes to light. It’s Hopeful… And Younger People Can Watch It, Too(Photo by © Netflix)Despite the darker corners of the world Singh and Abbot inhabit, the series is meant to be hopeful. “The show really touches your heart in a way that gives you hope and positivity in dark times,” Convery said when asked about its unexpected tone. For Anozie, there was an added irony in becoming part of Sweet Tooth in the midst of a pandemic. “I think it s key to recognize that Sweet Tooth was written a decade ago and it s a coincidence that it helps us relate to it more having gone through the pandemic in the last year, he said. Nevertheless, he agreed with Convery that it does convey a message of hope [and] that we can do anything if we rely on each other.”That sense of hope definitely lends the show a broader appeal to a younger set of viewers, with Convery saying its sense of adventure makes it “more of a PG to PG 13 situation.” Anozie suggested the show could be watched by viewers as young as 8 or 9, “at the parents discretion as to whether those kids can watch,” of course.(Photo by © Netflix)“We definitely wanted to make a show that you could watch with your kids,” Schwartz added. “There are some dark moments, but the themes I feel are all skewed towards hopefulness.”To Mickle, the tone of the show not far from classic kids’ movies like E.T.: The Extraterrestrial or The Goonies – films made for kids, but which were nonetheless “frigging dark.”And, as it happens, Lemire is looking forward to sharing the show with his own son, who is roughly the same age as Gus: “I m excited to watch it with him and have it be something that kind of just walks the line between what I m comfortable showing him and certain things that I know will frighten him a little. I think when you can walk that line, you probably got it right.Sweet Tooth premieres June 4 on Netflix. On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News.
After a decade of mostly producing sequels, Pixar begins a new era of original animated features with the release of Onward. Featuring the voices of Chris Pratt and Tom Holland, the fantasy adventure is co-written and directed by studio vet Dan Scanlon, who previously helmed Monsters University. While still technically garnering Fresh marks from critics, Onward is being labeled a somewhat lesser Pixar effort in the first crop of reviews. Whether it’s too sub-par for recommendation depends on the writer and may depend on your appreciation for its sentiments as well. Here’s what critics are saying about Pixar’s Onward:How does it measure against other Pixar movies?Onward may have taken my number one Pixar spot, and I’m not ashamed to say it.  Rachel Leishman, The Mary SueOnward isn t Pixar s best film, but it s one of its most personal.  Kristen Acuna, InsiderPixar’s latest film, Onward, lives up to its predecessors… albeit slightly underwhelming.  Germain Lussier, io9The majority of Pixar s films are special for one reason or another. Which makes the generic bro humor and familiar Dungeons Dragons role-play vibe of Onward a let-down.  David Rooney, Hollywood ReporterThis is what a disappointing Pixar film is: a perfectly fine one.  Josh Spiegel, SlashfilmThis may not be Pixar’s worst movie… but it sure feels like the weakest.  Roger Moore, Movie NationLesser Pixar is still pretty goood, though, right?Pixar, in its very bravura, has more than earned the right to put out a movie like this one — an unabashed piece of product, a kind of Pixar place-holder made with a tiny dash of soul. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyWhile Onward may not be the strongest Pixar movie, it still delivers on everything fans have come to expect from an animated film produced by the studio. Molly Freeman, ScreenRantIan, Barley, and their dad s legs story is a worthy addition to the studio s impeccable catalogue. I went in with doubt. Now, I can t wait to see it again. Alison Foreman, MashableWhile its emotion and structure are certainly uneven, there’s not anything truly bad to say about it. Germain Lussier, io9(Photo by Disney/Pixar)Is it original enough? Some may find that Pixar is retracing its steps a bit… [but] Onward rarely feels formulaic because its characters and setting are so specific. Matt Goldberg, ColliderThis particular once-upon-a-time scene setter feels curiously, even knowingly derivative. Justin Chang, Los Angeles TimesThe emotion in Onward is earned, and the situational setup seems unique. It’s all… fine, but also overly familiar. Josh Spiegel, SlashfilmHow is the story?Scanlon, Jason Headley and Keith Bunin’s screenplay functions at its best when it’s leaning into sincerity over silliness. Courtney Howard, Fresh FictionSave for a few by-the-book action sequences and corny gags, Onward maintains its clever balance of formula all the way through an emotional climax. Eric Kohn, IndieWireWhile Onward is a distinctly colorful animated film, its story feels like a variant on a low-key dramedy you might find at Sundance. Josh Spiegel, SlashfilmThis is a movie about two kids resurrecting their dead dad’s crotch and it’s just the WEIRDEST thing. Mike Ryan, Uproxx(Photo by Disney/Pixar)Are there memorable characters? In addition to the filmmakers’ forward-thinking approach to dealing with grief, they approach traditional character archetypes with just as much innovation. Courtney Howard, Fresh FictionThere’s a lesbian character in Onward… but the most revolutionary thing that Pixar has done in advance of the movie’s release is not tell anyone about it. Sam Adams, SlateThis is a pretty uninspired bunch… characters that often feel like plot padding. David Rooney, Hollywood ReporterHow are the performances?Holland and Pratt, both MCU stalwarts, show great vocal chemistry as two brothers bonded together through family and tragedy. Robert Daniels, 812filmreviewsHolland and Pratt have a winning rapport, in part because they could be starring in a parallel-universe Avengers spinoff with Spider-Man and Star-Lord. Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times[Pratt’s] vocal performance is the film’s highlight, as he returns to his Andy Dwyer days. Josh Spiegel, SlashfilmPratt and Holland make for a loving vocal duo, oozing with audible affection, but voice acting veteran Mel Rodriguez steals the show as Laurel s cop boyfriend Colt Bronco. Alison Foreman, MashableIs Onward funny?Combining stellar visual comedy with memorable dialogue, Onward makes the most of every joke and bit on its path. bob足球网址 This week in TV news brings you behind-the-scenes drama on one of DC Universe s biggest 2019 launches, major video game adaptation casting news, and much more in the world of TV.TOP STORYTrouble in the Water for Swamp Thing?News broke earlier this week that production on DC Universe’s upcoming series Swamp Thing had been halted after five months of shooting. Some reports — including the initial story from one of the local news outlets, the Wilmington Star-News, that brought the story from the Wilmington, North Carolina set to national attention — noted that the shut-down was actually a pause so creators could “rewrite an ending” that would shave the series’ initial episode order from 13 down to 10. But others included the seemingly unfounded speculation that the move marked not just a creative shift for the series, but certain doom for the streaming service altogether.DC Universe’s response to that? Nah. The company’s metaphorical mic drop of a response involved releasing the very first teaser for the series, which noted that it would arrive on its original, already-announced release date: May 31. Watch it above. We Can See Your Halo(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)American Gods star Pablo Schreiber has landed the coveted lead role in Showtime’s upcoming adaptation of Halo, based on the popular Xbox game. He’ll play Master Chief, Earth s most advanced warrior in the 26th century and the only hope of salvation for a civilization pushed to the brink of destruction by the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of alien worlds committed to the destruction of humanity. The series will introduce a new character to the Halo universe, too: newcomer Yerin Ha will play Quan Ah, a shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both. Production begins in Budapest, Hungary, this fall.Stranger Things Lawsuit Heads to Court(Photo by Netflix)A lawsuit against Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer alleging that the filmmaker brothers stole the idea for their hit series is headed to trial next month. A Los Angeles judge ruled against a petition for summary judgment that the Duffers and Netflix had submitted, ensuring the matter would proceed to trial. (A summary judgment means the judge would rule on the matter without a full trial.) Plaintiff Charlie Kessler alleges in his lawsuit that he pitched the Duffers a project at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival based on “various urban legends, and paranormal and conspiracy theories,” and that he’s owed a third of the show’s profits. The Duffers allege that the casual, 10- to 15-minute chat “is the sole bases for the alleged implied contract at issue in this lawsuit and for Kessler’s meritless theory that the Duffers used his ideas to create Stranger Things.” Check out more on the suit at The Hollywood Reporter.Lena Waithe on Westworld, Mike Myers on Netflix, and more Casting News(Photo by Dee Cercone/Everett Collection)Lena Waithe is the latest star to join the currently filming third season of Westworld, according to Entertainment Weekly.
