3. 激战团竞模式
Peter Mayhew, who portrayed Chewbacca in every Star Wars movie appearance from A New Hope to The Force Awakens, has passed away at the age of 74.Born May 1944 in England, Mayhew grew to over 7 feet tall, which landed him his first acting gig at age 33 in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. That movie whose box office success could be described as mild, was utterly infinitesimal to Mahew s other release that year: the original Star Wars. Despite never seeing his face, Mayhew and Chewbacca became synonymous with Force devotees, as he was among the most approachable and accepting of the fandom lifestyle between his co-stars. Mayhew appeared as Chewie in all three original trilogy movies, Revenge of the Sith, and even the legendary Star Wars Holiday Special. His final appearance as the galax s favorite Wookiee was The Force Awakens, a role he shared with Joonas Suotamo, who s taken over The Last Jedi onward.Mayhew s family announced his passing in a heartfelt tweet and letter:The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away. He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home. pic.twitter.com/YZ5VLyuK0u— Peter Mayhew (@TheWookieeRoars) May 2, 2019

Today s Ketchup brings you another set of headlines from the world of film development news, covering movies with new roles for Richard Madden, Jessica Chastain, Michael Rooker, Elisabeth Moss, and more. This WEEK S TOP STORYMARVEL S YONDU May SNAP HIS TEETH INTO THE SUICIDE SQUAD AS KING SHARK(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Ever since Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn signed on to direct Warner Bros. and DC Comics The Suicide Squad, there have been rumblings that at least one of his Marvel stars would join him. For a while, there was word that might be Dave Bautista as Peacemaker, until recent news that the role will likely go to fellow professional wrestler John Cena instead. Today, we learned that James Gunn still might reunite with one of his Guardians stars, with Michael Rooker now in talks to play the monstrous villain, King Shark. If you re a fan of TV s The Flash, you might recall that King Shark has had some pretty cool scenes on that show. The Suicide Squad cast will also include Idris Elba, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Warner Bros. has scheduled The Suicide Squad for August 6, 2021. Gunn is expected to return to Marvel Studios for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after he wraps on the DC flick, suggesting a Guardians release date no sooner than 2022.Fresh Developments1. GAME OF THRONES, Bodyguard FAVORITE JOINS MARVEL S THE ETERNALS (Photo by Tony Gonzalez/Everett Collection)We re now within 10 days of the end of HBO s Game of Thrones, so we re in the midst of a wave of new roles for those many actors. The biggest story for a Game of Thrones favorite this week however was for someone whose last episode was nearly six years ago. Richard Madden, who played Robb Stark, the onetime King in the North, is now in talks with Marvel Studios about starring in The Eternals. If he signs on, Madden would be playing Ikaris, who, in the comics, has been a leader of the Eternals in the past. Angelina Jolie is also starring in The Eternals as Sersi (a long-running member of the Avengers in the late 1980s and early 1990s). Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, HBO s Silicon Valley) and South Korea s Ma Dong-Seok are also attached to play unknown characters. There have also been reports that Marvel is looking to cast an openly gay Asian actor, but that role appears to have not yet been cast. The Eternals will be directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider, Songs My Brothers Taught Me), whose two films to date both have Tomatometer scores above 90%. There is no official release date for The Eternals yet, but if the filming start dates align with the Marvel s put out, it might be November 6, 2020 (after Black Widow, which might come out May 1, 2020).2. DISNEY SCHEDULES NEW STAR WARS MOVIES FOR 2022, 2024, AND 2026 (Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Every once in a while, a massive story will come out which is actually several all rolled into one. This week, Disney announced dozens of release dates (or changes), including some pretty seismic revelations. Last September, we heard that Disney planned on slowing down the release of their Star Wars franchise, and we now officially know that there will be a three year gap after this December s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Then, starting with December 16, 2022, there will be Star Wars movies every two years; the next two will arrive in theaters on December 20, 2024 and December 18, 2026. What we don t know is what these Star Wars movies actually are. It s known that Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) has plans for a new Star Wars trilogy. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are also developing a trilogy which is rumored to be set in the Old Republic period most seen to date in various video games. (You can check out a breakdown of five places we think the Star Wars franchise can go in the 2020s here.) We think that some of the release date changes are Rotten Ideas, so please continue to that section to read more.3. BLACK PANTHER’s CHADWICK BOSEMAN TO SLASH AGAIN AS SAMURAI YASUKE (Photo by JA/Everett Collection)Chadwick Boseman has starred in a few movies now where he was a first. Boseman played baseball groundbreaker Jackie Robinson in 42, he played Thurgood Marshall (the first African American Supreme Court Justice) in Marshall, and of course, Black Panther was a significant first. This week, Boseman signed on for another first in the historical drama Yasuke, in which he will portray the first African samurai in Japan. The historical Yasuke was a Portuguese retainer of Mozambique heritage who was brought to Japan as a slave in the 16th century, making him the first black man to set foot on Japanese soil, [as] Yasuke’s arrival aroused the interest of Nobunaga, a ruthless warlord seeking to unite the fractured country under his banner. It s not yet known who will be directing Yasuke.4. Jane Campion is Back, with Doctor Strange and a Handmaid in Tow(Photo by ©Apparition/courtesy Everett Collection)Marvel Studios has tapped so many top stars (and helped others become stars) that a bunch of new films feature those names. Acclaimed New Zealand director Jane Campion (The Piano) hasn t directed a feature film in 10 years (2009 s Bright Star), and she is now preparing to direct The Power of the Dog, an adaptation of the 1967 novel by Thomas Savage. For this film, Campion has cast Benedict Cumberbatch (Marvel s Doctor Strange) and Elisabeth Moss of the acclaimed Hulu series The Handmaid s Tale. Like 1994 s Legends of the Fall, The Power of the Dog is a story of ranchers in Montana, with Cumberbatch playing a wealthy Montana rancher who engages in a relentless war against his brother s son from a secret marriage to a local widow (played by Moss). The brother and son characters have yet to be cast.5. IT: CHAPTER TWO STAR JESSICA CHASTAIN TO PUT ON THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE (Photo by Kerry Hayes/ © EuropaCorp USA /Courtesy Everett Collection)Nearly 20 years before acclaimed celebrity documentaries like Won t You Be My Neighbor? and RBG, one of the most successful early documentaries in that style was 2001 s The Eyes of Tammy Faye, about televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. Fox Searchlight is preparing to produce a dramatic biopic about Tammy and husband Jim, to also be titled The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Attached so far are Jessica Chastain (IT: Chapter Two, Dark Phoenix) and Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man). Director Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) will be working from a screenplay adapted from the documentary.  There s no word yet about which makeup artist will be hired to work on The Eyes of Tammy Faye, but whomever it is might automatically be in the running for a Hair and Makeup Oscar.6. CHRIS HEMSWORTH AND TIFFANY HADDISH TEAMING UP FOR BUDDY COP COMEDY (Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Universal)Chris Hemsworth is proving himself a master at comedic chemistry – witness the splendor of  Lebowski Thor – and a great foil to a strong female co-star (he will be back on screen with Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson in Men in Black: International this summer). The latest female star to sign on to test Hemsworth’s on-screen charisma and comedic chops is Tiffany Haddish, whose career has been blowing up ever since 2017 s Girls Trip. Haddish and Hemsworth will costar together in the buddy cop comedy Down Under Cover, with Haddish playing a cop who teams up with an undercover male stripper police detective.#7. Dark Knight Writer David S. Goyer Rebooting HellraiserJoel MearesBack in the early 2000s, Spyglass Entertainment was a prolific production company which provided Disney s Touchstone with many of its hits, including The Count of Monte Cristo, Shanghai Noon, and 1999 s The Sixth Sense. Spyglass is back in business again as an independent company called the Spyglass Media Group and in the market for new franchises. Their first major project was announced this week: a reboot of the prolific horror series Hellraiser, featuring the erotic horrors of Pinhead and his Cenobite collaborators. When Hellraiser came out over 30 years ago in 1987, there was nothing like it, but since then, movies like Saw and Hostel have made the torture porn horror subgenre almost ubiquitous. Hellraiser is poised to make a big return, and the job of adapting Hellraiser for a new generation is going to David S. Goyer, the screenwriter behind comic book adaptations like Blade, The Dark Knight, and Man of Steel, and this year s Terminator: Dark Fate. It s not yet known exactly how Goyer will reboot Hellraiser.Rotten Ideas2. DISNEY S MASSIVE RELEASE DATE DUMP REVEALS VAST CHANGES(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Pretty much every week, there are new release dates or changes for upcoming movies, but usually it s only for a handful of films. This week, Disney announced such a massive slate of new dates and changes that it s had sort of a tsunami-like impact on the calendar. Disney recently finalized its acquisition of Fox s film properties, and part of its ongoing plan is to slow Fox releases down to 5-6 films a year (cut in half from 12 in 2018). Many Fox films are therefore being delayed or outright canceled. For example, The New Mutants (the last Fox/Marvel movie before Marvel Studios takes over the X-Men and Fantastic Four) was originally scheduled for 2018, and now it s not scheduled to come out until April 3, 2020. Harrison Ford s Call of the Wild (February 21, 2020) is one of the other films pushed back into 2020, as is the long-in-development YA novel adaptation Artemis Fowl (May 29, 2020), though that has always been a Disney movie. Dora and the Lost City of Gold has already swept in to take over Fowl’s original August 9, 2019, release date. Disney s slate is also significant for what it doesn t have, such as Fox s various Marvel movies, like Gambit (with Channing Tatum attached), and projects like X-Force, X-23, Kitty Pryde, and James Franco s Madrox the Multiple Man.1. AVATAR 2 PUSHED BACK TO 2021 (SEVEN YEARS AFTER ITS ORIGINAL 2014 RELEASE DATE) (Photo by @ 20th Century Fox)Up until this week, it was believed that Avatar 2 would be released next year, on December 18, 2020, following years of delays from its original release date in December 2014. This week, as Disney also revealed an every-two-years rotation of Star Wars movies in 2022, 2024, and 2026, they did the same thing for the upcoming Avatar sequels. The four Avatar sequels (yes, James Cameron is really working on four sequels) are now scheduled for December releases in the odd years: Avatar 2 (December 17, 2021), Avatar 3 (December 22, 2023), Avatar 4 (December 19, 2025), and Avatar 5 (December 17, 2027). Paramount Pictures took quick advantage of the vacuum left by the Avatar 2 move, pushing their own sequel, Coming to America 2, back to December 18, 2020. By doing that, Paramount also made room for the science-fiction drama Infinite, starring Chris Evans, on August 7, 2020. For their own part, Disney also replaced Avatar 2 with their own films, the double feature of Steven Spielberg s West Side Story remake on December 18, 2020, followed by Cruella (the live-action 101 Dalmatians starring Emma Stone), five days later on December 23, 2020. We can expect the next few weeks to have more release date changes from Disney s competitor studios.Like this? Rotten Returns: The Grudge Becomes Latest Reboot to Flounder at Box Office(Photo by Allen Fraser / © Screen Gems)Sony’s The Grudge reboot earns its place here not because it may be a big financial loser – the budget is reportedly only million – but because there were clearly bigger hopes even than the - million projections it had. Also going into this weekend it had a strong .8 million in Thursday previews. But with just .3 million, the movie s first-weekend haul ranks as the worst weekend total for a January release with previews over million. The previous low was Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’s .6 million; the second-lowest was last year’s Escape Room (.23 million). The Grudge’s number is also on the low-end of attempted franchise reboots, but still ahead of 2019’s Hellboy (.04 million), 2011’s Conan the Barbarian (.02 million), 2016’s Blair Witch (.57 million), and 2019’s Charlie’s Angels (.35 million). Those films all had final gross multiples between 1.81 and 2.17. 2019’s Child’s Play opened to .09 million and finished with just .20 million, a multiple of just 2.07. That would put The Grudge on pace for a final tally between million and million, which would be less than Rings finished with in 2017.The Top 10 and Beyond: Frozen II Becomes Biggest Animated Film Ever, Knives Out Continues Killer Run Sony did not have much luck with The Grudge this weekend but their other films are doing quite well. Jumanji: The Next Level may be million off Welcome to the Jungle’s pace after 24 days (2.22 million), but it is right behind it on the all-time December chart – 10th place in fact – at this period, well outpacing the last two Hobbit films, which finished with 5 and 8 million, respectively. All the films above The Next Level on the 24-day list grossed over 0 million. Only Titanic and The Fellowship of the Ring had grossed less at this point and went over the milestone. The Next Level’s million weekend is almost identical to Welcome to the Jungle’s fourth weekend and is the fifth-best weekend four for a December release ever, nearly million higher than even the first Lord of the Rings film.Greta Gerwig’s Little Women is hoping to just get that first 0 million and it took a solid step this week. Only one film has ever opened in December, reached million in 12 days, and failed to make it to 0 million (that would be 2008 s Valkyrie). Little Women just reached .5 million. Though its .57 million is on the lower end of the 12-day releases that grossed between - million, it is just over a week away from a likely slew of Oscar nominations that will no doubt boost its profile as one of the films to see over the next five weeks.Over on the animated front, Disney’s Frozen II continues to trend up the charts. The sequel is about to cross 0 million with another .29 million added this weekend. But more importantly, it has just crossed .32 billion, million more than the first film, which now makes it the highest-grossing animated film ever. With another million, it will pass Avengers: Age of Ultron and enter the top 10 movies of all time. Fox’s Spies in Disguise is not going to get anywhere near those numbers. What it is near are the numbers for The Adventures of Tintin, which had .47 million after 12 days following a .43 million second weekend; Spies is up to .72 million after an .08 million weekend. Tintin finished with .59 million, which would not be a great number for the 0 million production. Two of the great box office stories of the season are also still playing out. Rian Johnson’s Knives Out just crossed 0 million and is going to pass Once Upon a Time In Hollywood to become the second-highest grossing original film of the year. (Jordan Peele’s Us is number 1.) A total of 0 million is not out of the realm of possibility and 0 million globally is inevitable. Also doing great is Josh and Benny Safdie’s Uncut Gems. The Adam Sandler thriller grossed .4 million in its second week of wide release for a total of .48 million. It is behind just Lady Bird (.95 million) and Hereditary (.06 million) on A24’s all-time chart and soon it will become their highest-grossing film in their seven-year history. This Time Last Year: Aquaman Rules For a Third Weekend(Photo by © Warner Bros.)James Wan’s Aquaman led the way for a third straight week with million, driving its total to over 0 million. As with this week, a horror film was the sole new release to kick off the New Year and a new franchise may have been born with Escape Room: It finished second with .23 million and its sequel is due out this August. The top five was rounded out by Mary Poppins Returns (.86 million), Bumblebee (.20 million), and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (.12 million). The top 10 films grossed a total of 9 million, which was the best three-day weekend total of 2019 for the next eight weeks until Captain Marvel gave the box office a boost on March 8. The films averaged 66.4% on the Tomatometer. This year’s top 10 grossed an estimated 9.68 million and averaged 66.6% with critics. On the Vine:  One-Shot WWI Thriller 1917 Goes Wide and Could Unseat SkywalkerA loaded January weekend is likely to be led by one of two expansions. Sam Mendes’ 1917 has been doing solid business in limited release and should take the number 1 spot from not just its new challengers but from Star Wars as well. Just Mercy is also headed into wide release and may draw some pre-awards interest. Brand-new 2020 releases include the sci-fi horror film, Underwater, with Kristen Stewart, which is hoping to draw more interest than Charlie’s Angels did. Then there is the comedy, Like a Boss, with Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne, and Salma Hayek. Finally, 2019 layover, The Informer, with Joel Kinnaman will get a limited release after moving around on the schedule. The Full Top 10: January 3-5Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) 52% – .74 million (0.77 million total)Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) 71% – .5 million (6.21 million total)Little Women (2019) 95% – .56 million (.02 million total)The Grudge (2020) 21% – .3 million (.3 million total)Frozen II (2019) 78% – .29 million (9.88 million total)Spies in Disguise (2019) 77% – .08 million (.73 million total)Knives Out (2019) 97% – .03 million (0.26 million total)Uncut Gems (2019) 91% – .83 million (.81 million total)Bombshell (2019) 68% – .08 million (.67 million total)Cats (2019) 20% – .6 million (.69 million total)

solved.Hoffa’s connections to organized crime began in the 1930s when he was a union activist in New York, and it was here that the young Hoffa first gained an audience with mafia dons Russell Bufalino and Angelo Bruno. After years of moving up in the Teamsters Union, all while making shady backdoor deals with the East Coast mafia, Hoffa became president of the Teamsters from 1957 until 1971 and turned it into one of the most powerful in the world. But, on July 30, 1975, just four years after stepping down as Teamsters president, Hoffa vanished without a trace. The unsolved disappearance has led to countless theories of what happened, including ones that posit Hoffa was either buried underneath Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands, compacted in a car and sold as scrap metal and shipped to Japan, or buried under a suburban Detroit driveway. The one commonality is that they all agree the mafia had him taken out.The teaser trailer released today seems to have higher ambitions than just exploring Hoffa s rise, fall, and presumed death, however. With frequent allusions to John F. Kennedy and the role of big business and the government, it seems like The Irishman will tackle the connections between a tangled web of organized crime, crooked unions, and American politics in the 20th century. The Cast and Crew(Photo by Universal courtesy Everett Collection)We first got a glimpse of the type of talent in this movie in the initial teaser (even though it was only their names), but now we finally get to see some of the greatest actors in film history and one of the most beloved and revered directors of all time doing their thing. We all know the work Scorsese, De Niro, Keitel, and Pesci have done together, including Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and Casino, but adding Pacino to that crew is the pistachios on the cannoli. In the upcoming film, Pacino plays Union leader Hoffa and De Niro plays his friend and alleged killer Sheeran, while Keitel and Pesci play bosses of rival East Coast crime families. But the talent doesn’t stop there, as The Irishman’s roster is both top heavy and deep. In addition to these heavy hitters, the film will also feature Oscar winner Anna Paquin, two-time Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale, two-time Emmy nominee Jesse Plemons, and Emmy-winner Ray Romano. In case you weren’t keeping count, that cast features actors who have been nominated for a combined 19 Oscars, 35 Golden Globes, and 27 Emmys, and have collectively taken home five Oscars, five Golden Globes, and seven Emmys. And that’s just in front of the camera.Between Scorsese, screenwriter Steven Zaillian, editor Thelma Shoonmaker, and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, the talent behind the camera has combined for 25 Academy Award noms and four wins. So, with all that talent and excitement, how has it taken so long for this film to get made? The Journey(Photo by Andrew Cooper/Paramount courtesy Everett Collection)This film has been a passion project for director Martin Scorsese for years, with news coming about the potential film as far back as 2008. (That same article refers to Scorsese s adaptation of Shutter Island as an upcoming release, just to give a sense of how long ago 2008 was.)Since then, the film has floundered in development hell, and Scorsese moved on to directing other long-gestating passion projects like Hugo, The Wolf of Wall Street, and 2016’s Silence. But Scorsese kept coming back to the story of the most famous mob hit in history, and finally, in 2017, Paramount and Fábrica de Cine came together to co-finance the film and aim for a 2019 release. So how did it end up on Netflix, you ask?The BudgetYes, like all things, it comes down to cold, hard cash.Initially targeted for a 0 million budget, the movie s cost soon ballooned to nearly 0,000,000 after the production opted to use a CGI de-aging technique to make De Niro, Pacino, and co. appear younger while playing the younger versions of their characters.Because of this price tag (and perhaps still feeling the burn left by Silence, which cost upwards of million and took in less than million at the box office), Fábrica de Cine and Paramount decided to back out of the project less than a year after agreeing to fund it.Fábrica de Cine producer Gaston Pavlovich explained this difficult decision, saying We quickly realized that Marty and De Niro really thought that the aging process was going to be a very important aspect of this film. The traditional model was not going to work with this new vision of the project [we could not] risk that amount [of money] when all our data was telling us that it was not going to come back. Thankfully, Netflix stepped in, and the importance is not lost on Scorsese, who recently said, “People such as Netflix are taking risks. The Irishman is a risky film. No one else wanted to fund the pic for five to seven years. And of course we’re all getting older. Netflix took the risk.”(Photo by Netflix)Even so, the CGI de-aging comes with both budgetary and cinematic concerns. Previously used on Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button, Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy, and Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War, the de-aging technology has advanced in recent years to appear more natural, but still remains costly. So costly, in fact, that until Samuel L. Jackson (and, perhaps less noticeably, Clark Gregg) was made to look 25 years younger in the recent Captain Marvel, it had only been used sparingly.Editor Thelma Schoonmaker called it a “risk,” saying, “We’re youthifying the actors in the first half of the movie. And then the second half of the movie they play their own age. So that’s a big risk. We’re having that done by Industrial Light and Magic Island, ILM. That’s a big risk.”While it might be cool to see young Pacino, young De Niro, young Pesci, and young Keitel in the same scene, it could also venture too close to the uncanny valley and take the viewers out of the film.Schoonmaker has also expressed some trepidation over how the public is going to view seeing a 30-year-old Pacino, De Niro, et al. in a 2019 movie: “I haven’t gotten a whole scene where they’re young, and what I’m going to have to see, and what Marty’s going to have to see, is ‘How is it affecting the rest of the movie, when you see them young?’” In that same interview, the eminent editor said that, of the few people they’ve screened the movie for, “nobody minds. Nobody minds watching them play young, because they’re gripped.”While we don t see too much of the de-aged film legends in the teaser trailer, what we do see looks pretty good. On first impressions, the one shot of a young De Niro talking on the phone might be a little distracting, but this is just the first glimpse, so that s a given. With what is sure to be stellar directing from Scorsese and brilliant acting from some silver screen legends, audiences likely won t even notice that there s a 40-something Robert De Niro in a 2019 movie. The Release(Photo by Paramount Pictures)As one of Netflix s main prestige productions for 2019, it was always expected that The Irishman would be released at the heart of awards season, and now we have confirmation. It was recently announced that The Irishman will celebrate its world premiere as the Opening Night film for the 2019 New York Film Festival on September 27. Most likely, the film will be available for the general public a few weeks later in theaters and on your couch.Previously, Scorsese has expressed his disdain for movie-watching on small screens, saying that when he was growing up, films “had to be shown in certain ways — people went to a movie, it wasn’t something you could choose or pick up, or walk out of the room. You actually made a commitment. It was a different experience.” He continued, “the ideal would be to see cinema in its proper context… It’s a problem of pure concentration.”Robert de Niro agrees, saying at a recent film festival, Movies have to be shown on a big screen.  It appears Netflix also shares this sentiment, as the teaser trailer announces that the film will be shown in select theaters. Unfortunately, we still don’t really know when exactly The Irishman will be released. But we now know that it will have a splashy premiere at a prestigious film festival at the end of September, and will be shown in theaters and on the streaming service sometime this Fall. The Irishman  is currently set to release in select theaters an on Netflix during the Fall of 2019.
Taupin s new song for Rocketman, (I m Gonna) Love Me Again, is the one we think should and will win next Sunday. It s racked up a number of awards already, gives the Academy the chance to honor the largely snubbed Rocketman, and, well, all those years of hosting Oscar parties are surely set to pay off for Elton, right?Sound Editing(Photo by © Universal)Who will win?Oliver Tarney and Rachael Tate – 1917 (2019) 89%Who should win?The precise sound effects of 1917 work with the incredible cinematography of Roger Deakins to plunge audiences in the trenches, and that s why it s our pick for the one that should and will win in this category.Sound Mixing(Photo by © Twentieth Century Fox)Who will win?Paul Massey, David Giammarco, and Steven A. Morrow – Ford v Ferrari (2019) 92%Who should win?Ford v. Ferrari. If the precise sound editing of 1917 puts you in the trenches of WWI, the sound work on Ford v. Ferrari places you squarely in the driver s seat for some epic F1 racing. We re predicting a split ticket in the sound awards so the Academy can allow itself to honor both films for their incredible sonic achievements.Makeup and Hairstyling(Photo by © Lionsgate)Who will win?Kazu Kiro, Anne Morgan, and Vivian Baker – Bombshell (2019) 68%Who should win?Ever since Charlize Theron emerged from the elevator in the trailer for Bombshell looking eerily like former Fox News host Megyn Kelley, we have had the film down as our pick for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and nothing – not even Joker s iconically painted face – has changed our opinions since. It will and should win.Costume Design(Photo by © Sony Pictures)Who will win?Jacqueline Durran – Little Women (2019) 95%Who should win?Mayes C. Rubeo for Jojo Rabbit. Corseted dramas usually top all other costumed contenders at the Oscars, making Little Women an easy pick to win, but Jojo Rabbit s colorful take on WWII Germany is a fashion wonder that many during our deliberations felt was just as worthy of the gold.CinematographyWho will win?Roger Deakins – 1917 (2019) 89%Who should win?Roger Deakins is a god of cinematography at this point and was long overdue for an Oscar when he won for Blade Runner:2049. If you want to know why he should and will win for 1917, just check out our extended interview with Deakins above, in which he breaks down his craft and the challenges he faced while shooting Mendes film.Production Design(Photo by Andrew Cooper / © Columbia Pictures)Who will win?Barbara Ling, Nancy Haigh – Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood (2019) 85%Who should win?Production designer Barbara Ling and Quentin Tarantino managed to shut down Hollywood Boulevard for several hours while shooting Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and we believe that enviable boast alone will secure their win here. However, the incredibly detailed production design for Parasite – the central home was constructed for the film, as was the squalid apartment and surrounding area the poorer family lives in – had more than a few defenders and is our pick for who should win. It might just cause an upset.Film Editing(Photo by © Neon )Who will win?Yang Jin-mo – Parasite (2019) 98%Who should win?Frequent Scorsese collaborator Thelma Schoonmaker clearly put in work to cut Martin Scorsese s three-and-a-half–hour gangster epic, The Irishman, but the intricate camera work and editing is a huge part of what makes Parasite a masterful piece of cinema. Go back and check out the TB sequence if you need further proof.Visual Effects(Photo by © Universal)Who will win?Guillaume Rocheron, Greg Butler, and Dominic Tuohy – 1917 (2019) 89%Who should win?Dan DeLeeuw, Russell Earl, Matt Aitken, and Dan Sudick for Endgame. With over 2,000 visual effects shots and an Oscar-worthy motion-capture performance from Josh Brolin as Thanos, Avengers: Endgame should be the odds-on choice for Best Visual Effects, but we are betting the Academy s love for 1917 s imperceptible VFX will give it the edge. Perhaps one day The Academy will choose to honor motion-capture or stunt performances in their own categories. The ShortsFor this section we relied on the truly obsessive members of our staff who have seen all (or most) of the shorts. Daniel Radcliffe may never in his lifetime escape questions about his most-famous role: Harry Potter. Fortunately, the star doesn t mind fielding fan queries, including those from Potterhead colleagues and the occasional journalist.Radcliffe s Miracle Workers costar Karan Soni, who plays Sanjay, was the biggest Potterhead on the cast, Radcliffe revealed, and he was happy to indulge Soni.“I think there’s like an expectation that I will hate talking about it, which I really don’t particularly,” Radcliffe told Rotten Tomatoes.Radcliffe now stars in surreal TBS comedy Miracle Workers, which presents Heaven, Inc. as a regular office grind where employees try to answer prayers every day. God (Steve Buscemi) is over it and decides one day that he’s going to blow up the Earth.(Photo by Curtis Baker/TBS)Angels Craig (Radcliffe) and Eliza (Geraldine Viswanathan) convince God to give them a chance to prove humans are worth preserving. If they can perform one miracle in two weeks, God will let the Earth live. The prayer they’ve chosen to answer: Help Sam (Jon Bass) and Laura (Sasha Compere) fall in love. The angels can’t directly interfere with Sam and Laura. They can just set things up and hope they work. It’s like a game of Sims with real people.“They’re a lot more caring with them than I was with my Sims,” Radcliffe said. “I killed my Sims accidentally. I put the fridge the wrong way around and didn’t realize.”Viswanathan confessed to even more sadistic Sim abuse.“I used to take the ladder out of the pool and just watch them suffer,” she said of her Sims abuse, which shocked her costar.“That’s you killing them!” Radcliffe objected. “I accidentally made my guy die. That’s a murder.”(Photo by Curtis Baker/TBS)Heaven, Inc.’s interference on the show also has collateral damage. Obstacles they throw in Sam and Laura’s path may have deadlier impacts on completely innocent bystanders.“It does, but it is all for the goal of saving the entire world,” Radcliffe said in defense of the angels. “We’re in a world where virtually anything can be justified in order to save the existence of the species as a whole.”Miracle Workers is a dark comedy that way, but it’s ultimately optimistic.“There’s a through-line of hope even when it’s really messed up and extremely dark,” Viswanathan said. “They’re just sticking together and believing in something and going for it. That’s very much the ethos of the show.”(Photo by Curtis Baker/TBS)Miracle Workers showcases Radcliffe’s comedic side. He has had funny cameos in films like Trainwreck and shows like Bojack Horseman, and he even played a farting corpse in 2016 film Swiss Army Man opposite Paul Dano.“I’ve always loved doing comedy,” Radcliffe said. “I think I’ve done a fair amount that certain people have seen. Swiss Army Man is a fairly niche film. The stage shows I’ve done have actually mostly been comedy in some way. I love it. It’s a very lovely thing, particularly on a set like this where you just have to go to set and try and be stupid every day and make people laugh.”And Miracle Workers can be gloriously stupid. One joke is just about how to pronounce “gyro.” Most foodies know it sounds like “yee-ro,” not like a gyroscope.“I thought it was ‘gyro’ as well, but my girlfriend — near where Erin grew up is a huge Middle Eastern community — and she was like, ‘No, it’s yee-ro,” Radcliffe said.(Photo by Curtis Baker/TBS)If Miracle Workers is a hit, there will be a second season, but it won’t be about the same angels. Creator Simon Rich’s plan is to make Miracle Workers an anthology series.“The idea would be to reset it in a different time, place, characters — sort of to do for comedy what American Horror Story is for horror,” Radcliffe said. “Once you’ve saved the world, it’s hard to find where to go from there for the second series, I think.”Whether or not that means season 1 ends with a miracle or we all die, it will be a definitive ending.“The opportunity TBS gave him to do was to do a totally self-contained season so you didn’t have to, as a writer, write an open-ended ending which may or may not go onto something in season 2,” Radcliffe said of Rich s deal. “Essentially they let us make a three-hour film with commercials.”(Photo by Curtis Baker/TBS)Returning to our Potter obsession (and Radcliffe s patient accommodation), we related that when his Potter costar Rupert Grint spoke to us for Snatch season 2, he said it was weird for him to watch another actor play Ron Weasley in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Radcliffe hasn’t seen the play yet, but not because of another actor playing Harry.“I think I would find it weirder just sitting in the audience and know that people were probably looking at what my reaction to the thing was,” Radcliffe said. “That’s kind of the reason I haven’t gone.”It’s hard to believe that it has been eight years since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Radcliffe has had a whole career since then, but he’ll always be Harry Potter.“It’s still a big part of my life, but I’ve gotten to go on and do loads of other things,” Radcliffe said. “I’m very happy with how it’s all gone. If you told me at the time that I was going to be sitting here eight years later talking about this amazing, weird series that I love, I’d be very, very happy with that sort of thing.”Most actors don’t get one or the other. Radcliffe considers himself blessed to have both.“I don’t think the idea of me always being known as Harry Potter and the idea of me just being an actor who does lots of stuff are mutually exclusive,” Radcliffe said. “I think they can both be true. So far they have been so fingers crossed.”Miracle Workers premieres Tuesday, February 12 at 10:30 p.m. on TBS. The premiere is available for viewing now at TBS.com. 同样是移植,LOL手游却是其中的“异类”。它不是对玩家诉求的无脑妥协和敷衍,相反,在漫长的研发周期里,拳头不断探索端游和手游的平衡点,想要尽可能地还原LOL端游的核心体验。

1. THREE OF MARVEL S STARS CIRCLING STEVEN SODERBERGH S NEXT(Photo by Marvel Studios)After taking a sabbatical in 2012 and 2013, director Steven Soderbergh came back with a flurry of activity that continued this year with two films on Netflix (High Flying Bird and The Laundromat) and one that has already wrapped for next year called Let Them All Talk. Soderbergh s next film is expected to be Kill Switch, a 1950s crime drama set in Detroit from screenwriter Ed Solomon (Men in Black, co-writer of next year s Bill Ted Face the Music). He is reportedly now in negotiations with three actors who are all famously known for their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Josh Brolin (Thanos), Don Cheadle (War Machine), and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier). If they sign on, the three would play criminals who plot a home invasion only to wonder if they have been set up in a double cross. Kill Switch is currently an independent production, but it s expected to be shopped around to major studios, based on its Marvel-level star power.2. DISNEY SCHEDULES THE KING S MAN, THE LAST DUEL, AND FOUR MARVEL MOVIES FOR 2023(Photo by Walt Disney Studios)As happens every year around this time, each major studio will be making major release date announcements soon, and this year, it started with arguably the biggest player on the field right now, Disney. Let s start by discussing the most mysterious dates, which are for untitled Marvel movies in 2023, on February 17, May 5, July 28, and November 3. These dates are on top of the movies we know about for 2020, 2021, and 2022, and also on dates in 2022 that don t yet have titles specified yet. We can, however, make some educated guesses about what films might be scheduled for 2022 and 2023, based on the films that haven t been dated yet, and those titles include the sequels Ant-Man 3, Captain Marvel 2, Deadpool 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as well as the reboots of Blade, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. Disney also pushed The King s Man back from 2/14/2020 to September 18, 2020 and scheduled Ridley Scott s The Last Duel for a platform release starting on December 25, 2020 that will expand wide on January 8, 2021.3. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY STAR JOINING MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 (AND PROBABLY 8)  (Photo by Marvel Studios)It s something of an understatement that when Disney fired (before eventually rehiring) director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, they also inadvertently threw the schedules of the film s cast sort of out of whack, and we re still seeing the ramifications. One of those available co-stars is Pom Klementieff, A.K.A. Mantis, who joined the franchise with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Screenwriter and director Christopher McQuarrie took to Twitter this week to announce that Klementieff will be joining the Mission: Impossible franchise with Mission: Impossible 7 (7/23/2021), and if we take his use of the #MI78 hashtag literally, also for Mission: Impossible 8 (8/5/2022). The tweet didn t specify what Klementieff s role might be, but her reply, Mischief: accepted, might give us a hint.4. NEXT STAR WARS MOVIE STILL SCHEDULED FOR 2022, STILL SHROUDED IN MYSTERY (Photo by Walt Disney Studios)Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently departed the Star Wars project that had been scheduled for December, 2022, but Disney has confirmed that they are still scheduling a Star Wars movie for that date (12/16/2022). Having said that, Disney is reportedly not yet ready to specify who their new Star Wars director will be, and will make that announcement in early 2020. Jon Favreau, who is currently basking in warm reviews for the Disney+ series The Mandalorian (Fresh at 89%), is reportedly one of the figures whose responsibilities are being stepped up at Lucasfilm. What we do know this week, however, is that the director of the 2022 Star Wars won t be Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), and it won t be Kevin Feige s project either. Who do you think should direct the next Star Wars?

环球国际 Watch: Chad Stahelski on the making of The Matrix above. In 2019, Rotten Tomatoes turns 21, and to mark the occasion we’re celebrating the 21 Most Memorable Moments from the movies over the last 21 years. In this special video series, we speak to the actors and filmmakers who made those moments happen, revealing behind-the-scenes details of how they came to be and diving deep into why they’ve stuck with us for so long. Once we’ve announced all 21, it will be up to you, the fans, to vote for which is the most memorable moment of all. In this episode of our ‘21 Most Memorable Moments’ series, stunt double Chad Stahelski recalls working with Keanu Reeves to create some of the most memorable action sequences ever seen on screens.VOTE FOR THIS MOMENT IN OUR 21 MOST MEMORABLE MOVIE MOMENTS POLLThe Movie: The Matrix (1999) 88%It was 20 years ago when the world stood on the cusp of digital revolution. A new Star Wars was coming out, ditching handmade green puppets in favor of shellacking a movie in CG. The internet was still a sparse superhighway, stretching empty in-between frontier cities of anonymity and information gardens. A new millennium nested beyond the horizon, yet persistent trembling hinted that something awful would befall humanity when the clock struck midnight on December 31st: Y2K. The news cycle warned connected online systems would fail, banking accounts were to shatter, airlines would have to ground all planes as modern life as we knew it screeched to a halt.No movie captured this zeitgeist of exhilaration and paranoia more than The Matrix, which opened in U.S. theaters on March 31, 1999. Like peak-James Cameron, the Wachowskis used state-of-the-art filmmaking techniques to pit man against the sleek, technological hell of our own creation. Perhaps we were slaves to our own comfort and science. And perhaps there would be a way to escape it. Enter Neo – the pale, withdrawn hacker played by Keanu Reeves – who discovers the true nature of our world: A shared simulation we processed in our minds as we slumbered in oozing pods, generating energy for the sentient machines that had turned our race into cattle. It would take a red pill, some kung fu, and guns, lots of guns, to wake up and win this war.The Matrix combined existentialist philosophy with anime-inspired visual wizardry, wrapped with the perfect mix of CG and practical effects to make this wild world feel grimy, tactile, and lived-in. Chad Stahelski was among the chief operators in selling this new reality as Reeves stunt double, with first-hand experience in witnessing how the Wachowskis crafted this remarkable film. His working relationship with Reeves started here and has never ended, with the duo upholding The Matrix s legacy of high-impact filmmaking with the Stahelski-directed John Wick movies. Stahleski here recalls the enlightening, bone-crunching trip.(Photo by Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection)“Holy s t, this is something pretty different.” I wasn’t hired initially at the beginning. I came on right after they started principal photography. At the time it was a script that read pretty crazy and didn’t make a lot of sense on paper. It filmed in Sydney, Australia. I get there, I get off the plane, I meet Yuen Woo-ping and his fight team, and within about four hours of being there it’s like, Holy s t, this is something pretty different.' “The Wachowskis somehow, through force of sheer will and creative genius, got those shots.” If you had seen the storyboards we’d been given before we shot even a frame of the movie, and see how close they were to the final edited product, [you d see] the genius of the Wachowskis. No matter what the adversities were on The Matrix, the Wachowskis somehow, through force of sheer will and creative genius, got those shots. Got exactly what they wanted. Got the framing they wanted, and molded each and every one of us, both performers and department heads, to get their vision. It was one of the most precise, arduous things I’ve ever done in my life. [They had] attention to detail, complete nuance of every scene. In between takes they’d watch the fashion channel, they would do research in martial arts films. I’ve never seen two directors that had such an all-encompassing knowledge of every single department and aspect of the film. The Wachowskis. (Photo by Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection)“They actually made breakdowns of other kung fu movies.” [The Wachowskis would] take an old Jet Li or Jackie Chan movie, download it on their computers, and re-edit it just to understand why those edits worked, or understand the moves. They actually made breakdowns of other kung fu movies. They weren’t martial art or stunt people, but they went in and actually learned, through experience and exposure, different martial arts or different styles of kung fu so they could put them in. The Moment: The Government LobbyIn a movie that drips with coolness like cascading lines of green code, you d think it d be tough to pull out the moment. But there was little debate that it wouldn t be the lobby scene, where leather-clad Neo and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) stage a full assault to rescue resistance leader Morpheus from capture. The set literally explodes in a hail of bullets, shot with signature slo-mo and kinetic gunplay and combat, all to a pulsating techno soundtrack. In 1999, it was the apex of style.“There’s about 4,000 squibs in the walls, so when we yell action, you’re probably not going to be able to see anything.” It was literally walking in off the plane, drop bags off at the hotel, go stretch at gym, [and then] going into the government lobby choreography pieces. The Wachowskis very quiet, very soft-spoken directors had come in and said, We re gonna do this, we wanna do this, and there’s about 4,000 squibs in the walls so when we yell action, you’re probably not going to be able to see anything. Nowadays, we do it all digitally so it’s pretty quick resets, but it was pretty impressive at the time [what] went into it.The first time when Keanu runs down the hallway and the guns are going off and everybody’s shooting at him – that was a week of prep just for the special-effects guys laying in all the squibs. So every time you do a take, it’s a half-day. So you get one go at it and if you miss, everybody goes home and they spend another day resetting the new panels in to blow it up again. (Photo by Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection)“Keanu nailed it first take.” “So Keanu and I both had to back up to our number one marks and pretty much try to do all the choreography and the one-handed cartwheel and all the shooting with your eyes closed. Because once the squibs started going off, you couldn’t see anything. You had to count your steps and kinda go into it. And I remember looking at him and going Uh, OK, this could be a little tricky. And he’s like Eh, OK. And he nailed it first take. So that was pretty cool. The government lobby was a difficult sequence stunt-wise, but it probably wasn’t the hardest thing we did there. I mean, figuring out bullet time. The dojo fight was probably physically the toughest for Keanu. Logistically, the subway probably had a lot more stunt work and wirework than the government lobby. But then again you had Carrie-Anne walking on a wall, which was probably her most difficult wire move in the whole film. And Keanu doing an aerial cartwheel over an M16, picking it up, and shooting three guys. (Photo by Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection)“You can copy it, but it’s not the same as putting all those little pieces together.” A lot of guys can try and copy The Matrix, meaning you do a low angle thing here and you cover this kick in a wide. You can copy it, but it’s not the same as putting all those little pieces together. What the Wachowskis taught us the most was [how] you build a world. I ll relate this to John Wick so maybe it’s a little bit easier to understand. The color, the wardrobe, the suit, the house, the pajama bottoms, the way the gun style works. The emotional hook with the dog and the puppy. All that comes from working with the Wachowskis. Every little thing builds the world. You never blink. You never let the audience think, Oh they’re just kinda doing a cool move, they’re just kinda doing a cool color. Every little thing goes into building the world. Every little aspect, on camera, off camera, how you train the cast, what the dialogue rhythm is, know your editing style, just really, really immersing people. The Impact: A New Standard in ActionThe Matrix broadened the tastes of audiences, and what they expected out of action movies. It officially signaled the end of the burly macho stars of the 80s, who had hung on for dear life past the mid- 90s, and into more fluid fights, elaborate maneuvers, and lighter-than-air wirework. Fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping s name was literally used in marketing future movies he worked on, the highlight being the Best Picture-nominated Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The Matrix had a fetishistic obsession with its own action sequences, something you ll see later in Wanted, Kick-Ass, or Zack Snyder movies. Meanwhile, spoofing The Matrix became its own kind of cultural cred, as seen in movies and shows like Scary Movie, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Simpsons, Spaced, Shrek, and Kung Pow, or the Nintendo 64 game Conker s Bad Fur Day, and beyond. But for the people who made the movie, it s the camaraderie that endures, and the gift of knowing that they got to participate in one of the most beloved, influential movies of the last 21 years.“To work on it, to be part of it, it is by far my favorite film.”“We use Laurence Fishburne [in the John Wick series], and I bumped into Carrie-Anne, and I bumped into Hugo Weaving the last couple of years and they still Every single person, including department heads and cast that worked on that movie, still f king cheer when it comes on. Everyone’s very proud of it. They can actually step outside their own performances and go That’s f king cool. For people in the business, that’s not a normal thing you can do. We all count ourselves as incredibly fortunate to have worked on that. Keanu and I see each other about every day, so we watched [The Matrix] again and had a nice talk about it yesterday. I don’t necessarily want to speak for Keanu, but it’s, like, still one of his favorite films of all time. To work on it, to be part of it, it is by far my favorite film. Reeves and Stahelski. (Photo by Christopher Jue/Getty Images)“I’m both proud and somewhat ashamed to say it, but without the Wachowskis we couldn’t have done John Wick.”“The Wachowskis wanted to immerse us in a world that was both real and extreme. And when you sit and watch The Matrix, you are wrapped up in that movie. You are wrapped up in the real-world part of it, you’re wrapped up in the matrix part of it. You buy it all. They thought it down to  a molecular level of detail. I’m both proud and somewhat ashamed to say it, but without the Wachowskis we couldn’t have done John Wick. We took a lot of lessons from them and hopefully tried to honor what they taught us by doing what we could with that. “How cool is it that I get to watch The Matrix with Keanu Reeves?”“Because of my relationship with Keanu, because we still work together and all that stuff I mean how cool is it that I get to watch The Matrix with Keanu Reeves? And we still laugh, and we still cheer! And to see Keanu Reeves, the actual Neo sitting in a chair, where we’re both having a scotch watching The Matrix like that, or just to pull up a scene to fucking relive old times or something, or to get an idea, and to see Keanu Reeves jump up and go F k yeah! That’s awesome! I mean, I’m not gonna lie to you, that’s pretty cool! The Matrix was released on March 31, 1999. Buy or rent it at FandangNOW.
