Steven Spielberg Remains Very Much InvolvedExecutive Producer Steven Spielberg, who also produced the original Animaniacs and was involved in every aspect of production, returns for the revival. Wellesley Wild, one of the two new showrunners, told Rotten Tomatoes that the new episodes are very much the brainchild of Spielberg, who gets an appearance in the very first of the new episodes with a Jurassic Park parody. Steven really wanted to set the show in the right direction from the start, Wild explained. He really had a specific vision for the show in mind, and we tried to realize what he had in his head, to imbue the show with the balance of cartoon violence, satire, and meta-humor from the original episodes. 2. It s Just Like You Remember, But With Some Updates(Photo by Amblin Television/Warner Bros. Animation)A lot has changed in animation over the past 22 years. Not only in the way shows are made, but also in what they do and say. Animaniacs is no longer the only comedy with meta-humor in a world with Community or Adventure Time. So there s a lot riding on the new episodes to feel both like the originals, while also doing something that contemporary cartoons aren t doing, and co-showrunner Gabe Swarr knows this. In the olden days they used different animation studios for different episodes, Swarr said. So we contacted one of them directly and asked how they went about it and really leaned into the way they animated the characters. Adhering and staying as close as possible to the original and only changing what was necessary to bring it up to date was the number one goal, Wild added. We re obviously pulling from more relevant social commentary and cultural events; for example, Dot flexes her feminist muscles a little more in the revival than she did in the original, and she s sort of a more assertive character. 3. It s Like No Time Has Passed for the Cast(Photo by Amblin Television/Warner Bros. Animation)Though Animaniacs has new writers and showrunners, the main cast remains the same, with Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, Tress MacNeille, and Maurice LaMarche returning as Yakko (and Pinky), Wakko, Dot (and Brain), respectively.Though the show has been off the air for 22 years, the cast has never been as ready to return to being zany. It was like putting on a favorite pair of pants, LaMarche said. It was great, man. Literally falling back into something we ve loved all these years and nobody needed any reminders. It was just like getting the band back together. Harnell agreed:  The thing is that we ve been doing the Comic-Con circuit for at least 10 years, and we do script readings where people want to interact with us as Pinky and the Brain, or Wakko the Great Wakkorotti. Those muscles have been kept in shape for a decade at least, just waiting to be brought out into actual animated cells. 4. Expect New Music Genres and Parodies(Photo by Amblin Television/Warner Bros. Animation)One of the most memorable aspects of Animaniacs is its music, particularly its songs. What other show is able to make a song rhyming every word in the dictionary, or every U.S. President until Clinton? So expectations are high for the new songwriter team to stand out at a time where animated shows with musical numbers are not a rarity anymore. Still, there may be a few surprises up the show s sleeve. There are so many new genres that have become popular since the show ended in the late nineties, Wild said. So we re using K-pop, reggaeton, and just about everything in the new episodes. Harnell teased the return of Broadway-style numbers. Without giving too much away, I can say that we did a really amazing parody of one of my all-time favorite Broadway musicals, Harnell said.Animaniacs has always maintained a balance between modern references and obscure, classic-Hollywood references, so to have a song parody the 1959 William Castle horror film The Tingler is a good sign for fans of the original episodes. There is an episode in which Dr. Scratchansniff sings a song about the Tickler, who s like this scary thing like the Tingler, Paulsen said.5. One Joke Was Changed Because of the Pandemic(Photo by Amblin Television/Warner Bros. Animation)Though Animaniacs prides itself on speaking about current issues, animation takes a long time to be produced. The first of the new episodes even comments on the lag and includes a segment

《陈情令手游》,由小说《魔道祖师》授权改编的一款卡牌游戏,还加入了简单的模拟经营元素。角色卡面的美术风格有国风二次元的味道,建模则是3D。 In a Golden Globes ceremony full of jaw-dropping surprises and bunch of moving speeches (some personal, many political), a few moments stood out from the pack on Sunday evening. From grumpy uncle Ricky Gervais on hosting duty to tears from America s sweetheart Tom Hanks and Phoebe Waller-Bridge reminding us that Fleabag has a special relationship with a former president, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association s 77th annual party gave viewers plenty of shocks and awwwws and – host network NBC a few good bleeps.(See the full list of winners here.)Read on to learn about those big wins and more of the best moments of the night.Ricky Gervais Gives Not One F in His Opening MonologueIt was his fifth time hosting, and Ricky Gervais hit the stage with guns blazing, taking aim at the HFPA, NBC, Felicity Huffman, and many of the guests assembled for the awards ceremony.“Let’s go out with a bang. Let’s have a laugh at your expense,” he warned, then said that his limo’s license plate was made by Huffman, who served 11 days in jail for her role in the college admissions scandal. Tepid laughter and uncomfortable smiles everywhere. He called Joe Pesci “Baby Yoda” and the room generally “perverts,” suggesting that Ronan Farrow was coming for them. Gervais attacked Cats, of course, saying that James Corden is a fat pussy (and also starring in the film) and Dame Judi Dench likes licking her private parts, which he followed with a hairball joke. He paused midway through that last joke because it was so rough he almost couldn t deliver it.He accused Apple of running sweatshops in China and name-checked Amazon and Disney in the same breath along with ISIS. His point: winners should keep their speeches short, because out-of-touch actors and filmmakers have no business lecturing the public about politics (which many actors and filmmakers, of course, went on to do later in the program – moments which you can find online but which we ve left out here).Shocking Upsets Hit in First Acting Awards of the NightAfter insulting them for working with Apple, Gervais turned the stage over to Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. What were expected to be easy wins for Bill Hader for Barry and Jared Harris for Chernobyl, the first two awards of the night, for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, went instead to Ramy star Ramy Youssef and Russell Crowe for The Loudest Voice.“This is thanks to God and Hulu. Look, I know you guys haven’t seen my show. Everyone’s like, ‘Is this an editor?’” Youssef joked, in an earnest speech that helped cut the tension in the room. “My Mom also, by the way, was rooting for Michael Douglas. Egyptians love Michael Douglas. I don’t know if you know this.”Crowe hadn’t flown in for the event. Aniston noted that he remained in Australia to protect his family from bushfires and delivered a message from him attributing the devastation in his country to climate change. The surprises would continue in the male acting categories with Chernobyl’s Stellan Skarsgård, who attributed his win to his eyebrows, taking Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, a category most prognosticators expected to go to anyone but him.Parasite Director Bong Joon-ho Makes a Case for Foreign-Language Films(Photo by Paul Drinkwater/NBC)In a night full of surprises, one of the least shocking moments came when Korea’s Parasite was named Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language. The movie, which is an Oscar frontrunner for Best Picture, was as sure a thing as you could get. Nevertheless, the win did give us a surprisingly touching moment (at least if you haven’t seen moment-making writer-director Bong Joon-ho on stage before). Joon-ho took the stage with a translator and delivered one of the biggest applause lines of the night, telling the audience and the world watching: “Once you overcome the one-inch–tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.” On a night when foreign-language film contenders included incredible movies like Pain and Glory, Portrait of a Lady On Fire, The Farewell, Les Misérables, and his own Parasite, the point hit ho

Though a new show, keeping Baker as the voice of the clones and keeping the overall style of Clone Wars was a very conscious decision on a part of the creative staff to maintain the continuity and visually inform the viewer how swiftly after Clones Wars this series takes place. Although, he noted, “we have clonetroopers in our show, and they re very similar model to The Clone Wars, but they re a little bit different.”One difference viewers may notice in short order: the color-coding and personalized augmentation of trooper gear quickly disappears in favor of the uniform stormtrooper monochrome — a swift change as the clone army of the Republic becomes an Imperial military force.Rau noted that “just seeing the clonetroopers as the forces of our evil army and how their gear, their vehicles, and their equipment has changed to be a little bit less colorful, less individual” changes the relationship to established Star Wars imagery in a way viewers may not immediately recognize consciously, but underscores one of the show’s themes about the transition to Empire.“It s interesting when you take an AT-TE tank, one that we re used to seeing as a good-guy tank, and just strip it off color and paint it this boring gray, and then we re playing very evil music as it comes marching down the street. And you think, ‘There s no doubt, that s a bad-guy tank,’” Rau explained.(Photo by Lucasfilm)Another sign of the changing attitude with the arrival of the Empire: once the Bad Batch come home to Kamino after the Clone Wars end, they see Admiral Wilhulff Tarkin, not yet the Grand Moff of the Death Star, inspecting the troops and doubting the loyalty of the Bad Batch. The classic Star Wars baddie — played by Peter Cushing in the original film and voiced by Stephen Stanton in his animated appearances — is something of a “big fish” for The Bad Batch, according to Corbett.“While he s there to address certain things, I suspect that he ll be pulled someplace to handle other important matters,” she added. And once he is called away to those matters (and his destiny aboard the Death Star), a surprising person will take his place in the hunt for the Bad Batch once they make their escape from the Imperial ranks.Along the way, the Bad Batch also meet a young female clone named Omega (Michelle Ang), whose existence may lead to a new mystery down the road. The character also continues a particular Star Wars animated tradition of introducing kid characters; Clone Wars did the same with Ahsoka and Star Wars Rebels followed suit with Ezra Bridger — to say nothing of Anakin Skywalker s introduction in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. To Rau, having a child in the midst of the action is key.“These are essentially shows for kids,” he explained. “As big kids ourselves that still love Star Wars from when we saw it as kids, we never want it to get too dark; although, there are dark things that happen.”(Photo by Lucasfilm)The character also changes the dynamic within the squad itself as it is presented with a new set of challenges the clone creators on Kamino never dreamed they would encounter.“The things that they teach each other are really, really interesting and help keep [the Bad Batch] on their toes,” Rau said. “They re not always just hitting the target now [and have to think], ‘Oh, wait a minute. When it s not a military objective, how do we deal with raising this child? We don t even know how to deal with the galaxy ourselves!’”Baker added, “It s a really wonderful thing to see how quickly some of the Bad Batch warm up to Omega, and it really adds an interesting layer to these kind of gonzo, improvisational, special ops soldiers.” To Baker, who has the strange task of keeping all these characters in his mind simultaneously, the addition of Omega adds “the story of what s playing out, which it s not just a matter of war and power, but it is [also] human.”And playing those humans, er, clones, leads to a unique method of recording for Baker. He prefers to run through the script in order and switch between the Bad Batch characters (and any other clones who might be in the scene) live and on the fly.“Once the specificity of the characters is nailed down, as it is by this point, it s actually pretty easy for me to jump from one to the other,” he explained. Although he admitted Wrecker, the demolitions expert with a propensity for yelling, does present some difficulty. “When Wrecker gets excited or starts yelling, that brings a physical cost to the voice that I sometimes have to manage a little bit. But other than that, it s amazingly easy to do.”Baker is able to record two or three takes of an entire scene before a pause for notes from Corbett or Rau or for a moment to record specific lines to “rearrange the words or the inflection or the meaning of sentences, or add extra efforts, or modify the presence of voice to match what the blocking establishes.”(Photo by Lucasfilm)And though the series is a showcase of Baker’s talents, it also retains the imprimatur of Clones Wars and Rebels supervising director Dave Filoni, who serves as the show’s creator even as he continues to chart aspects of Star Wars’ live action television efforts.“The stuff he tells us is fantastic and amazing,” Rau said. As anyone who has heard him talk can attest, he has a rare gift for explaining Star Wars ideas and concepts.“It’s a master class in writing Star Wars,” added Corbett, who also called Filoni s involvement “crucial” in the development of The Bad Batch as a series. The Filoni stamp means the show is also free to move between lighthearted stories and darker tales just like its predecessors, but with one interesting difference: “It s a combination [of tones] because it is a dark time, but the fun adventures they get to go on and the places that they visit are different because there s no war happening,” Corbett said.Indeed, The Bad Batch is unique in that it occurs during a time of galactic peace. Sure, that peace may be an illusion and comes with some brutal hidden fees, but the Clone Wars are over, the Civil War is a decade or so from truly beginning, and the conflicts of the Mandalorian and Sequel Trilogy eras are undreamed of at this point in Star Wars history.(Photo by Lucasfilm)“At least that s a positive,” she continued. “But there are other things that they re encountering in the galaxy that are equally as challenging for them.”Hopefully, those challenges will thrill viewers and keep The Bad Batch on Disney+ until its eventual conclusion, which both Corbett and Rau alluded they have a plan for, but that discussion is for another time — Clone Force 99 and Omega’s journey is just beginning.Star Wars: The Bad Batch debuts on Tuesday, May 4 with a special 70-minute premiere, followed by new episodes every Friday starting on May 7 on Disney+.

4.59.9 9月喜迎The news that Patrick Stewart had, after 19 years, agreed to return to the character of Jean-Luc Picard, the Star Trek role that made him a global celebrity, sparked loads of excitement among the fanbase. As the 79-year-old actor explained, the decision to head back into the universe that Gene Roddenberry created, relied on the caveat that Picard would boldly go where no Star Trek series has gone before. I don t mean to give any offense to anyone, but I struggled a little bit with this issue, Stewart told select members of the press at the official junket for Star Trek: Picard. I was so obsessed with this idea that we must leave The Next Generation behind, that we must pull the curtain down on that and explore new things. In the latest Star Trek series on CBS All Access, a strong ensemble of Star Trek newcomers join Stewart; Isa Briones plays the mysterious Dahj, Michelle Hurd appears as former Starfleet Officer Raffi Musiker, Alison Pill plays Dr. Agnes Jurati, and Santiago Cabrera takes on the role of hot-headed pilot, Chris Rios. It is not the same world when we wrapped The Next Generation, Stewart continued. And I argued that I wanted that change and that world to be reflected insofar as it affected Jean-Luc and what had happened to him. The backstory of those 19 years is very, very important. But the great thing about it is — and I wasn t prepared for this — I discovered I also lived through those 19 years; Patrick had lived through them. And I had changed. I m different. I feel differently about the world that I m living in, and in subtle ways. (Photo by Matt Kennedy/CBS)As Star Trek fans know, there are multiple timelines that exist within this cinematic universe. That can add continuity confusion, depending on a viewer s expectations with Star Trek: Picard. Showrunner Alex Kurtzman explained that the Romulan supernova that impacted the events of J.J. Abrams 2009 movie, which sparked a new timeline and universe separate from the original Star Trek series — this event is also referenced in Picard — is the catalyst for the vastly different timelines that exist across the Star Trek universe. That s a lot to take in for new viewers, but the return of Stewart in his iconic role will most likely be a huge draw for people to tune in. Through all the strife Picard has been dealt since we last saw him, he s still the highly-revered Starfleet admiral fans have grown to love and respect. We live in a continuity of a timeline, Kurtzman said. There s emotional experiences that have certainly informed the show, but [Patrick Stewart] did not want to just play the part he had played in the same way. And I think you ll find, as you go on that, fundamentally, Picard, as a character, has not changed. He s not the dark angry version of Picard. He s still very much the man you know from Next Generation. But the circumstances of his life have changed radically and threw him off course. And so he s really wrestling with who he is now and what it means to be Picard in a world where not only does he not have an army, but things are very, very gray. How do you hold on to your clear moral compass in a world that s very gray? There is no greater captain in my mind for that challenge than Picard. (Photo by James Dimmock/CBS)According to series co-creator Michael Chabon, one of the themes Star Trek: Picard explores is the it s never too late concept of age and retrospection. This, according to Chabon, is something mostly unseen in the Star Trek universe. What we haven t ever had before, not just on Star Trek, but on almost any television show ever, and certainly any kind of serious dramatic television show is a central protagonist — a hero — who is effectively 80-years-old. Patrick was 78 when we started, he is 79 now. Jean-Luc Picard, in canon, is about 92. To have a person at that point in his life, reckoning with that question of: What does it mean to be a man, a human, a captain, a leader? And now he s an old man and he s still trying to answer that question, just like Star Trek is always trying to answer that question, but he s answering it in a different way than he did before. (Photo by James Dimmock/CBS)Discovery ended up being the first series in the Star Trek television universe that strayed from the narrative formula of exploring a different mission on-board a starship in every episode. Star Trek: Picard takes that storytelling baton and runs with it. Not only does much of the program take place on Earth, the series, which Kurtzman identifies as the first true adult drama in the world of Star Trek, hones its focus on the characters in the world and not just that of Jean-Luc Picard. Uniquely, that s a kind of storytelling which I don t think has been done much, period. Much less, in Star Trek, executive producer Akiva Goldsman added. So we re super delighted by that prospect because, as storytellers, it gets us to do the narrative hours in a way that s different and complicated. Relationships get to change and move, and you get to show one thing and then reverse it up. (Photo by James Dimmock/CBS)As much as the team was able to switch things up and delve into a more character-driven storyline, essentially creating a 10-hour movie, in the process, Goldsman asserted that Star Trek: Picard was made for both the die-hard Trek fans and newbies alike. We re trying to be able to deliver emotion and information and philosophy and character in a way that is engaging because you re watching it, Goldsman said. And if you know everything about it, you re like, Well, that was cool. And if you know nothing about it, you re like, Well, that was cool. And it might be cool, differently. It may have more color, or more revelation, depending on where you live in that spectrum of audience. But we really, really wanted to be welcoming of a listener s heart. Because that s part of the story we re trying to tell. Chabon agreed: We were absolutely committed to the idea that we wanted to make a show that, if you ve never seen Star Trek — if you re not sure what Star Trek really is even all about and you think you don t like Star Trek because what you ve seen before hasn t really grabbed you — or if you re a total novice, you will be able to sit down and still watch the show and enjoy it. (Photo by James Dimmock/CBS)Of course, having Patrick Stewart involved helps. The familiarity of fans to the actor, whose cinematic repertoire blossomed greatly after leaving the world of Star Trek behind, will surely help bring newbies into the fold. And, against his previous wishes, Stewart eventually warmed up to the notion of bringing some Next Generation characters and storylines back for another go in Picard. I was involved in meetings I d never been involved in as an actor before, Stewart, who had the added responsibility of co-executive producer on the series, explained. I could contribute. And I began, increasingly, to feel my colleagues from Next Generation, we need to see them. They, too, can reflect how the times have changed. I think it was the right thing to do. And I hope, with time, we are able to see more. To keep track, four familiar faces will be joining Jean-Luc Picard on this new adventure. Brent Spiner is reprising his role as android Commander Data. Marina Sirtis is returning, alongside Jonathan Frakes — who, once again, steps behind the camera to direct — as Deanna Troi and William Riker, respectively. Star Trek: Voyager s Jeri Ryan and Star Trek: The Next Generation s Jonathan Del Arco will be bringing their beloved Borg characters, Seven of Nine and Hugh, to this new tale, as well.(Photo by James Dimmock/CBS)Thematically, Star Trek has always operated best when it s held a mirror up to society to show us what works and what needs fixing. The first interracial kiss on television happened in the original series, between Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and Uhura (Nichelle Nichols). Star Trek has always been a series based on the ideas of inclusion and exclusion while digging into the evolving question: what is humanity? These are some of the ways Roddenberry s concept has thrived for over the past five decades. And that s a trend that continues in Star Trek: Picard. This was one of the shows that our family, as a family, would happily sit down and watch, Michelle Hurd explained. When I got this job, that s the first thing I remembered: sitting with my mom and dad and my two sisters and watching the show. Not only because of Uhur,a but the fact that it was telling the stories of people who were other, the people who were pushed away. It just really brought me back to the understanding that Star Trek is more than just a show; it s a place where we can all be seen and represented and it makes me so proud to be part of it. Every Star Trek has a bridge family, and, in Picard, a rag-tag crew eventually forms. But every unit needs a leader, and Stewart discovered stepping back into his most iconic role was quite easy. He s never left me, the actor admitted during the 2020 Television Critics Association winter press tour.(Photo by James Dimmock/CBS)Jean-Luc Picard may have been gone from our screens for nearly two decades, but his return is coming at just the right time, Kurtzman said. Right now more than ever, we need great leaders. We need great leaders like Jean-Luc Picard. And we don t have them, Kurtzman added. My hope is that we will inspire people to remember that and think about that deeply. And the next generation that is now much more vocal about many of the problems they ve been left with, because of previous generations, will look to something like Star Trek and say it s possible. You know, maybe we won t get there in our lifetime. But maybe we can lay brick for our children s children to get there. Star Trek: Picard premieres on Thursday, January 22 on CBS All Access.

NBCUniversal s Saturday lineup at the winter Television Critics Association press tour came with lots of exciting news for critics: The Chucky TV series is happening on Syfy! A new show for Dwayne Johnson on NBC! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back as Golden Globes hosts! It also came with some frustrations, as NBC Entertainment chairman Paul Telegdy was also met with questions regarding former America s Got Talent co-host Gabrielle Union s complains of workplace toxicity, as well as Saturday Night Live s sudden firing of new hire Shane Gillis before the start of the sketch show s new season. (Rotten Tomatoes, like television channels NBC and Syfy, is also a division of NBCUniversal).Below, we ve gathered some intel TOP STORYMAKING NEW SHOWS FEELS LIKE CHILD S PLAY(Photo by Charles Sykes/NBCUniversal)While much of the day was focused on broadcast network NBC, there was still news coming from the cable networks under the NBCUniversal umbrella. One big one is that Syfy has given a straight-to-series order for Chucky, a television show about the cherubic homicidal doll from the Child s Play movies.According to the press release, the plot follows what happens after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, causing an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Plus, it promises the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past [who threaten] to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster. Don Mancini, who wrote the 1988 film Child s Play, created and will show-run this series. He s also directing the first episode. He is executive producing along with David Kirschner, who produced that film, Nick Antosca and Harley Peyton.A premiere date has yet to be announced.THE GLOBES LEADING LADIES(Photo by Charles Sykes/NBCUniversal)Ricky Gervais promised that the 2020 Golden Globes ceremony would be his last as host, and it looks like he and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association have made good on that; NBC announced on Saturday that close friends and network regulars, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, would return as co-hosts of the annual awards show.Poehler announced the news herself at TCA, appearing on stage at the beginning of the press day in place of NBC Entertainment executive vice president of communications Chip Sullivan. She also shared that NBC has renewed Making It, the feel-good crafting show hosted by herself and Nick Offerman, for a third season. NBC is also working with Fey and her 30 Rock showrunner Robert Carlock on an untitled comedy that stars Ted Danson as mayor of Los Angeles and also includes Holly Hunter and Bobby Moynihan.THE ROCK S NOSTALGIC NEW SHOW(Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)Before he was a charismatic Tweeter, former wrestler, star of HBO s Ballers, and the world s highest paid actor June 2018–June 2019 (according to Forbes), Dwayne The Rock Johnson was a scrappy kid causing trouble. Johnson and Fresh Off the Boat’s Nahnatchka Khan will explore his trajectory for our entertainment in new series, The Young Rock. The sitcom, which Telegdy announced Saturday, has a straight-to-series order. While no premiere date has been announced, Johnson recorded a cellphone video for TCA that included him talking passionately about his roots and also promising that he would be featured in each episode.AGT, SNL AND NBC S BEHIND-THE-SCENES DRAMA(Photo by Trae Patton/NBC)Actress Gabrielle Union announced she d be leaving her post as co-host of America s Got Talent in December, citing a toxic work environment and causing NBC to launch an investigation into working conditions on the set of the popular reality competition show. Telegdy told journalists that this investigation is still on-going but he said that we will put new practices into place, if necessary. Telegdy was also asked if new vetting policies were put in place after sketch show Saturday Night Live hired and then eventually fired Shane Gillis. The comedian lost his job after journalist Seth Simons and others brought to light his history of saying racist comments on his podcast. The executive said that, while he does think SNL boss Lorne Michaels acted quickly, the incident was a learning moment for a lot of people. Still, he added that “vetting people is very triggering for people who live in a world of free speech and comedy that it is an enormously fine line and a gray area.”The latest NBC controversies follow other behind-the-scenes drama in recent years, including the ousting of Today show host Matt Lauer due to allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior, and NBC News  refusal to air Ronan Farrow s reporting on Harvey Weinstein that went on to win a Pulitzer Prize and helped spawn the #MeToo movement.PEACOCK ON THE HORIZON(Photo by NBCUniversal)The news that reboots and other iterations of classic shows like Saved by the Bell and Punky Brewster are being developed for upcoming streaming service Peacock instead of NBC has raised eyebrows — and irked quite a few who don t want to deal with another streamer. Telegdy said this was a studio decision, but would I do Saved By the Bell again? Hell yeah! Telegdy also said his programming will appear on Peacock, saying of course we’ve been working in partnership with them, because it’s called Peacock for a reason. JIMMY FALLON S NEW SHOW, NEW AMSTERDAM RENEWAL NEWS, AND MORE(Photo by Andrew Lipovsky/NBC)In the meantime, NBC does have plenty of new and returning shows for you to watch. Telegdy announced Saturday that Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon will also host the network s new series That s My Jam. Based on musical segments from Fallon s late-night show, the comedy variety series will allow celebrities to compete with each other through song and dance. It will premiere during the Tokyo Olympics.NBC renewed New Amsterdam for three seasons, keeping the medical drama on the air at least through the 2022-23 television season, and renewed its successful holiday special event series Ellen’s Greatest Night of Giveaways, from executive producer Ellen DeGeneres, for a new season. The network also ordered 10-part global event series The New World from BBC Studios Natural History Unit, which is set to air in 2024. The series will scale across North America, Central America, and South America to explore the vast landscapes, remote wilderness and mysterious creatures of the region.Syfy announced that it is developing limited series The League of Pan, which picks up where Peter Pan left off and follows a group of misfit youths who refuse to grow up. Dominion s Brian McCauley Johnson is writing.THIS IS US WANTING MORE (Photo by Ron Batzdorff/NBC)NBC s press day also included a panel for its tear-jerker family drama This Is Us, where creator Dan Fogelman and the stars provided some teasers.Co-star Sterling K. Brown said the mid-season premiere, which airs January 14, will continue to delve into his character Randall s mental health and how he takes care of himself — what’s right and what’s wrong about how he takes care of himself and how he could potentially do a better job of that.” Fogelman added that it will also kick off what those involved with the show call trilogy episodes, meaning that it will connect with subsequent episodes that will deal with Randall s twin siblings, sister Kate (Chrissy Metz) and brother Kevin (Justin Hartley). As for internet fan theories that the show in its entirety exists in the mind of one of the characters, similar to the reveal at the end of St. Elsewhere, or that it s actually being told How I Met Your Mother–style with one character retelling the journey to others? I don’t think we’re going to pull the wool out of what the narrative thread of the story is, Fogelman said.
The first trailer for It: Chapter Two dropped on Thursday morning and well, thanks yet again for the nightmares, Pennywise, Warner Bros., Andy Muschietti and Co. Really, thanks a bunch. The bulk of the first trailer is made up of a 2 minute and 15 second scene featuring Jessica Chastain s adult Beverly coming back to Derry to visit her childhood home and meeting its current occupant – the schvitzing Mrs Kersh who, of course, is not quite as she seems. After some exchanges of pleasantries ( No one who dies here ever really dies ), we start to see that something is amiss. As in moves-around-in-the-background-like-a-dancing-clown amiss.(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)Turns out Kersh is Pennywise s daughter or so she says. The rest of the trailer features a series of quick cuts that reveal the Losers Club is back together, Pennywise is back up to his old tricks (the red balloon budget has increased sizably), romance is in the air, and we will definitely get to see the original film s younger cast in multiple flashbacks. The flavor of the original, and of Stephen King s 1986 novel, all looks in place. There are hints this could be an origin story for Pennywise – there s Kersh, saying she s his daughter (though King fans will know Kersh is a form of IT); images of an un-made-up Pennywise with his traveling circus; and, a harrowing little shot of the clown seemingly tearing off his makeup.(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)The first It trailer back in March of 2017 was an event, and broke the record for most-watched trailer online in a day with 197 million views across the world. That figure smashed the previous record held by The Fate of the Furious (but has since itself been beaten by The Lion King, Infinity War, and two trailers for Endgame). The 2017 trailer s set of creepy images – red balloons floating through libraries, clowns appearing suddenly in drains – and that terrifying tagline ( You ll float too! ) got horror fans hyped for the movie, which would go on to become the highest-grossing horror movie ever, making more than 0 million worldwide. Will the first trailer for It: Chapter Two have the same impact? The goosebumps on our necks point to yes. But what did you think of the first trailer? Let us know in the comments. In the meantime, check out our picks for the five freakiest moments from the trailer. I was always daddy s little girl. (Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)Holy hell. The extended sequence of Beverly in her childhood home ends with a bang, with Mrs. Kersh running jaggedly out of the dark towards her prey. The two minutes are a study in slow-building suspense – if this is the direction director Andy Muschietti is taking us in, we re definitely here for it.Pennywise Goes Full Carl from Up(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)Seems that Richie (Bill Hader) has an encounter with our dancing clown at a carnival, and Pennywise has taken that famous sequel directive bigger is better to heart, absolutely piling on the balloons. So he can fly now. Great.A Carrie Homage?(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)
The Best Action Movies of 2019What is the state of the action movie in 2019? You could say they ve never been stronger: They generate all the hype and they break all the records – we just call them superhero movies these days. But for this guide to the best action movies of 2019, we stick with a more pure strain of action filmmaking, whose lineage you can trace back to the 80s and early 90s heyday. It s a world of tough guys (Shaft) and tougher women (Anna), of martial artists (Shadow), vigilantes (Miss Bala), and assassins (John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum). In deciding what qualifies as an action movie, we not only left those newfangled superhero movies to mingle with their own crowd, but the same went for genre hybrids like Alita: Battle Angel, which will go into the best sci-fi movies of 2019 list, launching next week. Otherwise, the action movie needed only to cross a 20-review threshold to be included in this guide, which ranks the best alongside the worst. And now with more high-adrenaline pleasures like Gemini Man, Angel Has Fallen, Rambo: Last Blood hitting theaters, take a look back with a blast from the recent past with the best (and worst!) action movies of 2019 so far!Updated 11/25: 21 BridgesBest Movies of 2019 | Best Horror Movies of 2019Best Comedies of 2019 | Best Sci-Fi Movies of 2019Best Action Movies of 2019

Shia Labeouf isn t exactly known for earnest, heartfelt dramas, but when the trailer dropped for his latest movie, The Peanut Butter Falcon, audiences knew to expect something different. After the film s premiere at South by Southwest earlier this year, critics confirmed what curious moviegoers had been suspecting: it s a sweet, nuanced adventure movie with outstanding performances from its ensemble cast. The story centers on a young man with Down syndrome (played by Zack Gottsagen), who escapes his nursing home in order to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. With a well-meaning caretaker (Dakota Johnson) from his nursing home in pursuit, he joins up with a petty criminal with problems of his own (LaBeouf) to blaze a trail through the deltas of the American Southeast en route to a training facility for wrestlers in North Carolina.Ahead of the release of the film this week, the trio of stars sat down with RT editor Jacqueline Coley to talk about what it was like to make the film, and it was clear that all three had found something special. Watch the interview above to see how they got so close during filming, what they d like people to remember about them, and how Gottsagen helped LaBeouf become more friendly. Then try to figure out what LaBeouf s birthday wish was that he so coyly implies came true.Like this? Subscribe to our newsletter and get more features, news, and guides in your inbox every week.

(Photo by Universal / courtesy Everett Collection)All Brendan Fraser Movies, Ranked by TomatometerLike a defrosted caveman, Brendan Fraser arrived out of nowhere when he starred as the titular Encino Man in 1992. The Paleolithic cult movie is a prototypical 90s comedy: It s broad, goofy, and Pauly Shore is never more than 10 feet away off-camera. Airheads and George of the Jungle were more in that 90s style, while 1998 s Gods and Monsters showed off Fraser s range. (Though School Ties, released the same year as Encino Man, had already proven some dramatic chops.) The Mummy turned Fraser into an international star, with the 1999 blockbuster remembered fondly today. But flops began to mount (Monkeybone, Dudley Do-Right, Looney Tunes: Back in Action), and though Fraser was in Best Picture-winner Crash, so was half of Hollywood. Even The Mummy unraveled: The box office returns for Returns were good, but the Rachel Weisz-less Tomb of the Dragon Emperor bombed, killing the franchise in 2008. By 2010, we were witnessing Fraser getting blasted by skunks in Furry Vengeance and yelling Miley Cyrus! as an expletive. After 2013 s Gimme Shelter, Fraser seemed to be no longer cast in movies. At the end of the decade, Fraser s voice was being heard again. He was Robotman in DC Comics series Titans. Well-received by fans, Robotman got upgraded to main status in spin-off Doom Patrol. Along with a recurring role in The Affair s third season, Fraser s re-appearance made audiences wonder about the likable, genial actor s long absence. The question was answered in a 2018 GQ interview, where Fraser alleges he was sexually assaulted in 2003 by Philip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and was subsequently blacklisted by the industry for speaking out. From this revelation (and more, like a contentious divorce, surgeries from doing stunt work, and the death of his mother), Fraser has emerged as a populist figure in the celebrity world, one whose fans are drawn to because of his survival through mistreatment and struggle. Like Britney Spears (whose conservatorship battle is documented in Framing Britney Spears), Fraser was once mocked and laughed at, but is now generating easy and eager goodwill after cultural re-examination of victimhood and predatory showbiz behavior. Directors seem glad Fraser s around again: Steven Soderbergh put him on-screen in No Sudden Move, Fraser s first Certified Fresh movie in 17 years. And the comeback continues with his casting in Darren Aronofsky s The Whale and Martin Scorsese s Killers of the Flower Moon. Now, we re ranking all Brendan Fraser movies by Tomatometer! Director Guy Ritchie returns to his roots with new gangster flick, The Gentlemen, and he s brought an all-star cast of big-name Brits and Americans with him. The movie, which sees a marijuana kingpin (Matthew McConaughey) attempting to sell off his empire to a fellow drug lord – and facing a ton of complications and F-bombs in the process – is already shaping up to be one of Ritchie s best-reviewed movies in years. Ahead of the release of The Gentlemen, Rotten Tomatoes sat down with McConaughey and co-stars Hugh Grant, Michelle Dockery, Charlie Hunnam, and Henry Golding to discover what drew them to Ritchie s latest project, how they pivoted with the director s on-set changes to scenes, and what they think makes the perfect gentleman. Plus: Golding gave us some fresh new details on the upcoming G.I. Joe spin-off, Snake Eyes.
