枪神纪激活码技巧采用百度引擎3(Baidu 9)By 1994, the video games Street Fighter (1987) and Street Fighter II (1991) had already sold over 10 million copies on the Super NES and Sega Genesis game systems. Street Fighter II in particular became a worldwide smash hit, and Capcom, its creator and publisher, wanted to capitalize on its success by adapting it into a film. The problem is, they wanted the movie to be written, location-scouted, cast, filmed, edited, and marketed in the span of one year (which is insane), so it could be released in time for Christmas in 1994.In an unconventional move, they hired prolific screenwriter Steven E. de Souza (48 Hrs, Die Hard, Commando, The Running Man), a first-time feature film director who came up with the idea for the story during an all-night writing session, to helm a -million budgeted James Bond-style action film about a Warlord threatening world destruction and the good guys who thwart him. What followed was a year of script rewrites, large explosions, scorching temperatures, reshoots, production delays, and a limited budget due to the casting of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia. It’s a miracle that Street Fighter actually makes any sense, and it s perhaps more surprising that, even after second, third, and fourth viewings, it s still a lot of fun. Though it’s full of unremarkable street fights and stealth boats that aren’t very stealthy, it is in no way self conscious (“All I want to do is rule the world; is that so much to ask?”), and it features a legitimately great performance by Raul Julia. Here are five reasons why we love Street Fighter and aren’t afraid to admit it.It s A Much Better Movie than Its Reputation Implies(Photo by Universal)Skimming through the reviews for the 11% Tomatometer-rated Street Fighter, you’re likely to read things like, “It’s an empty exercise in hyper-stimulation,” and it’s “a picture only an arcade junkie could cheer.” On the surface, Street Fighter may feel like an “empty exercise,” but upon closer inspection, it s clear that de Souza, cinematographer William Frakin (Rosemary’s Baby, Tombstone, Bullitt), costume designer Deborah Kramer, and production designer William Creber (Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure) did their best to create an interesting world, full of cheeky PA announcements (What do you do when a Bison trooper throws a grenade at your face? Pick it up, pull the pin and throw it right back at him), massive sets, and production design that is legitimately funny. In the Blu-ray commentary, de Souza mentions several times that “it’s clearly supposed to be funny,” and the evidence is plain as day, especially when you look at the private sanctum of General M. Bison (Raul Julia). Bison is a megalomaniac who plans to create a Bisonopolis with expansive food courts, Bison swag, and towering skyscrapers with slanted roofs. In his private room, the fireplace and the swizzle sticks for his mixed drinks have Bison logos, and there’s an odd clown painting that must have been painted by Bison himself (and that fans wish they could own). Watch this clip, and look closely at everything on display; the production design is pretty inspired, and yeah, we wouldn t mind owning that massive portrait of Bison on a horse, either.Street Fighter wasn’t the movie audiences were expecting (zero Hadoukens ), but if you can get past that, you’ll have a blast. Go back and listen to the weird PA announcements, pay attention to the one-liners, marvel at all the Bison tchotchkes, and try not to crack a smile. The Convoluted Plot Is Part of Its Charm(Photo by ©Universal courtesy Everett Collection)Early on in the pre-production phase in 1993, the Capcom folks and de Souza decided they didn’t want to make a simple fighting movie in the vein of Bloodsport, The Quest, or Lionheart (all JCVD movies, by the way). In a bout of naiveté, de Souza originally chose to include only seven characters from the game in the script, which would allow him to put more focus on each one but meant at least 10 of the video game s other characters would be excluded. Capcom understandably didn t want to exclude any of the characters, because they were running a multi-billion dollar empire capable of selling mass quantities of merchandise, and more characters = more money-making opportunities.Throughout the writing process, as de Souza was forced to add more and more characters, the script quickly got out of hand. Each new addition comes with a new subplot, and the film does its best to bring everyone together. Ryu (Byron Mann) and Ken (Damian Chapa) are huckster arms dealers who team up with Colonel Guile (Van Damme), Cammy (Kylie Minogue), and T-Hawk (Gregg Rainwater). Sagat (Wes Studi) and Vega (Jay Tavare) are real arms dealers who also run an underground fight club, while Dhalsim (Roshan Seth) is a doctor who creates super soldiers against his will, one of whom is Blanka (Robert Mammone). Dee-Jay (Miguel A. Núñez Jr.) and Zangief (Andrew Bryniarski) are cheeky henchmen who work for Bison (Julia). Chun-Li (Ming-na Wen), Balrog (Grand L. Bush), and E. Honda (Peter Tuiasosoppo) are reporters (and fighting legends) who want revenge by working their way up through various media outlets (it’s weird). During their interactions, there are staged deaths (Guile “dies” three times), Allied Nation bureaucracy subplots, billion ransoms, enjoyable torture, food court discussions, a henchmen wage debate, and at least five speeches.Normally, including 45 subplots in a video game adaptation would be a horrible idea, but here, it makes Street Fighter all the more endearing. It Was Tuesday. Before we get into one of the greatest lines in the history of cinema (it is, admit it), we want to point out that Raul Julia delivers it while holding two mixed drinks with orange garnishes and wearing a tailored silk robe and a nighttime hat (which means he has a daytime hat). The entire setup is silly, yet Julia nails the absurdity of the moment with a knowing confidence that only an actor of his caliber could muster. Also, his performance becomes infinitely more awesome when you consider he had recently undergone intensive treatment and surgery for stomach cancer, and he took the role because his kids loved the game.Julia makes a meal of each syllable, and the slight smile on his face proves he’s in on the absurdity around him. After Chun Li unleashes a passionate speech about how Bison killed her father when he was an up-and-coming drug czar, he replies with one of the greatest burns in cinema history: For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. It belongs on the Mount Rushmore of underappreciated lines, right alongside Skeletor’s “loneliness of evil” moment in Masters of the Universe and Andrew Scott’s “It’s like kick ass or kiss ass, and I’m busting heads” monologue in Universal Soldier.Jean-Claude Van Damme s Lines are Pure, Cheesy Gold(Photo by Universal)Prior to Street Fighter, Jean-Claude Van Damme was known for action-heavy performances that put more emphasis on punches, splits, and training montages than dialogue. In movies like Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Cyborg, Lionheart, Universal Soldier, and Hard Target, JCVD’s physicality and snake punching skills do most of the acting. However, since the screenplay for Street Fighter was written by de Souza, the man who wrote the quip-heavy Commando ( Let off some steam, Bennett. ) and The Running Man (“Killian, here’s your Subzero, now plain zero.”), Van Damme was asked to make speeches, drop one-liners, and do the best he could with de Souza’s dialogue and very little preparation time (which may or may not have been JCVD’s fault). The Muscles from Brussels” ventured a bit outside his comfort zone, and he did an admirable job unleashing all the ridiculous dialogue. For instance, he nailed his big “Who wants to go with me?” speech in one take, but he also says “This is the collection agency, Bison. Your ass is six months overdue, and it’s mine,” with a straight face.Need more proof? Here are some of his best lines:Guile: Four years of ROTC for this s t!Bison: You have made me a very happy man.Guile: And next, I ll make you a dead one.Guile: I’m okay; I’m just half dead.Cammy: And Bison?Guile: All dead.Needless to say, de Souza didn’t win an Academy Award for his screenplay, but he gave the world an immensely quotable video game adaptation, and we re all better for it.The Final Moments Are EpicAfter Bison has been defeated and Guile comes back from the dead (again), the remaining characters celebrate their victory by busting out variations of their popular poses from the video game. It’s an easter egg moment for fans of the game, and it highlights the international cast, which nowadays feels refreshing.Shortly before they pose and break the fourth wall, though, a temple explodes in front of them. In a wonderful Street Fighter oral history done by The Guardian, the first assistant director of the second unit, Keith Haygate, admitted that only a quarter of the temple was supposed to explode. However, the whole thing blew up and destroyed 0,000 worth of scaffolding and styrofoam that was built over four acres. The cheeky posing and the unexpectedly massive explosion define the movie, because it’s a knowingly tongue-in-cheek film that had an explosive production. The film was rushed, and it suffered a number of setbacks, but it still pulled in 0 million worldwide on a million budget. Street Fighter will never be mistaken as quality cinema, but it s a lot of fun, and you shouldn’t feel guilty about loving it.What is your favorite Street Fighter moment? Let us know in the comments.Street Fighter was released on December 23, 1994.

Our list of 25 Favorite Actress Golden Tomato Award candidates included a pair of Game of Thrones alumni (Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams), a quartet of MCU heroines (Brie Larson, Scarlett Johansson, Zendaya, and Tessa Thompson), and genre-hopping work from versatile stars (Awkwafina in The Farewell and Jumanji: The Next Level, Florence Pugh in Midsommar and Little Women). Only one of them, however, was nominated for two Academy Awards in acting categories, and she appropriately blew away all of the competition to win the GTA here. Not only did Scarlett Johansson serve a crucial role in Avengers: Endgame, but her turn as a frustrated wife and mother going through a divorce in Noah Baumbach s Marriage Story and her work as the titular character s activist mother in Taika Waititi s Jojo Rabbit earned her Oscar nominations for both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. While she didn t win either of those awards, she was the runaway favorite here, more than tripling the tally of runner-up Emilia Clarke as she earned almost a third of all the votes. The order below reflects the number of total votes cast for each TV show by users in a poll that ran on RT from January 9 to February 16.« Previous Category Next Category »Scarlett JohanssonNot only did Johansson break our hearts in Endgame, but she earned two Oscar nominations, one for Best Actress for Marriage Story and one for Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit. Avengers: Endgame, Marriage Story, Jojo RabbitEmilia ClarkeGame of Thrones may have ended on a Rotten note according to the Tomatometer, but a less-than-stellar final season did not rub off on fans affection for Mother of Dragons, Clarke, who also charmed in holiday flick, Last Christmas. Game of Thrones, Last ChristmasFlorence PughTalk about a Certified Fresh streak: Pugh began 2019 with wrestling dramedy Fighting With My Family, then earned instant Scream Queen status in Ari Aster s Midsommar, before stealing the show as Amy March in Little Women. Midsommar, Little Women, Fighting with My FamilyMargot RobbieRobbie didn t need pages of dialogue to make an impression as Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and she followed that performance up with Bombshell, earning an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of aspiring Fox News host Kayla. Bombshell, Once Upon a Time in HollywoodLupita Nyong oWe re not over Nyong o s Oscar snub for her landmark work in Jordan Peele s Us, and fans aren t either. 4. 呼朋唤友 随心所欲
This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as The Batman, The Color Purple, The Nutty Professor, and The Thing. This WEEK S TOP STORYKELLY MARIE TRAN WILL MAKE HISTORY IN RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON(Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images)Despite the delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on live-action production, many animated projects appear to be moving forward with fewer delays. One of these is Walt Disney Animation s Raya and the Last Dragon, which was indeed pushed back from its original release date of November 25, 2020 to March 12, 2021. Although that move initially appeared to be due to general trends and not the film s production itself, it turns out that wasn t necessarily the case, as Walt Disney Pictures is indeed using those extra four months to recast the voice lead, hire a new co-writer, and replace the film s directors. Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tico in the recent Star Wars sequels, is taking over the role of Raya, replacing Cassie Steele, which makes Tran, who is Vietnamese American, the first person of Southeast Asian heritage to voice the lead role in a Disney animated feature. The film s new directors are Don Hall (Big Hero 6, Moana) and Carlos Lopez Estrada (Blindspotting), and the film s newest screenwriter is Qui Nguyen (Vietgone). Awkwafina, who is voicing the titular dragon, remains attached as Tran s co-star; she will also co-star in Marvel s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings next year on May 7, 2021.Other Top Headlines1. BLUMHOUSE PARTNERING WITH JOHN CARPENTER ON THE RETURN OF THE THING (Photo by Universal courtesy Everett Collection)The complicated thing about complaining about all remake projects is that some of the most beloved movies of all time were themselves also remakes, or at least retreads (The Wizard of Oz, The Maltese Falcon, etc.) The sci-fi horror genre in particular had a spate of better than the original remakes that arguably started in 1978 with Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Certified Fresh at 93%), and included John Carpenter s The Thing (Certified Fresh at 84%), and David Cronenberg s The Fly ( Certified Fresh at 92%). Universal Pictures attempted a return to The Thing in 2011 (Rotten at 35%) that actually turned out to be a prequel, and there have been other projects in recent years (in particular, one would be an adaptation of a recently discovered longer version of the original story Who Goes There? called Frozen Hell). Blumhouse recently did quite well with a horror remake  The Invisible Man, Certified Fresh at 91%  its strongest partnership just happens to be with Universal Pictures, the same studio behind The Thing. And so, that brings us to this week s news that Blumhouse is now partnering with producer and director John Carpenter on a new reboot of his 1982 film. There are no premise updates (such as whether it will be a period piece set in the 1980s or set in modern times), but one thing we can guess is that Carpenter will probably not direct the remake, as he also gave over his Halloween franchise to David Gordon Green (Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends are coming in 2021 and 2022).2. DIRECTOR OF BEYONCE S BLACK IS KING ADAPTING THE COLOR PURPLE MUSICAL (Photo by Disney+)A year after voicing Nala in Disney s computer animated remake of The Lion King (Rotten at 52%), Beyonce released a musical companion to the 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift called Black is King (Certified Fresh at 98%) on Disney+. Now, Black is King director Blitz Bazawule (A.K.A. Blitz the Ambassador) has signed on with Warner Bros. for another movie musical, which is the studio s adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical The Color Purple. Reportedly, several of the musical s producers, including Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Steven Spielberg, all saw Bazawule s movie The Burial of Kojo on Netflix and were wowed by his vibrant visual style. Winfrey, of course, co-starred with Whoopi Goldberg in the original feature adaptation of The Color Purple (Fresh at 81%), which was directed by Spielberg, and whose music was composed by Jones. Screenwriter Marcus Gardley (The Chi, NOS4A2) is adpating the Broadway musical, which was itself a reimaging of Alice Walker s novel The Color Purple, upon which Spielberg s movie was based. It s not yet known if Warner Bros. will cast new performers (like, say, Beyonce) for the movie, recruit the Broadway cast, or perhaps a combination of both.3. AMY ADAMS JOINS BROADWAY HIT ADAPTATION DEAR EVAN HANSEN  (Photo by Jef Hernandez/Everett Collection)The Color Purple isn t the only recent Tony-winning Broadway hit getting a movie adaptation soon, as Universal Pictures is also getting ready to produce Dear Evan Hansen, which won six Tony Awards, including Best Actor (Ben Platt), Best Featured Actress, Best Score, and Best Musical. Ben Platt has long been attached to reprise his titular lead role, but Universal appears to be mostly attracting movie stars for many of the other parts, including Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Certified Fresh at 97%) and Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give, Certified Fresh at 97%). We can now add Amy Adams to the list, as she will be playing the mother of Caitlyn Dever s character (Colton Ryan has also been cast as Connor, a student whose death is central to the musical s plot). Dear Evan Hansen will be directed by Stephen Chbosky (Wonder, Certified Fresh at 85%). There is currently no release date for Dear Evan Hansen, but Universal Pictures may be eyeing it as a possible late 2021 awards season contender.4. DC FANDOME PART 1: THE BATMAN, THE FLASH, THE SUICIDE SQUAD (Photo by @mattreevesLA)In the final days of a summer in which San Diego Comic-Con was severely diminished as a pop culture event by the COVID-19 pandemic, Warner Bros. held their own online event called DC FanDome. Although there were many interesting panels, trailers, and videos, the biggest single video to debut at DC FanDome was arguably the first trailer for The Batman (10/1/2021). In addition to Batman himself (Robert Pattinson), Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), the Riddler (Paul Dano), and Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), sharp-eyed fans also noticed that we can see Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and really smart fans have already deciphered the Riddler s riddles seen in the teaser/trailer. In related news, Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) has joined The Batman as Gordon s first partner, Stanley Menkel. In another DC FanDome event, we also got to see early concept art for Barry Allen s new costume in the time travel adventure The Flash (6/3/2022). Director James Gunn had way more to show off for his version of The Suicide Squad (8/6/2021), including 29 set images, pop art style images for the film s various villains/mercenaries, and a two-minute video with sneak peeks at some of the film s action.5. DC FANDOME PART 2: BLACK ADAM, SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS (Photo by © Warner Bros. Pictures)Two of the other upcoming DC Comics movies that were spotlighted at DC FanDome are Dwayne Johnson s Black Adam (12/22/2021) and the sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods (11/4/2022), which are directly connected to each other because of Black Adam s roots coming directly from the Shazam mythos. Following a big year on The CW as the stars of Stargirl, a version of the Justice Society of America was revealed through Black Adam concept art, although with only four members revealed (Atom-Smasher, Cyclone, Dr. Fate, and Hawkman), the Black Adam version seems like a much smaller roster than the comics (which in the past has sometimes included over a dozen members at once). You can also see lots of non-JSA concept images here. Shazam! star Zachary Levi was also on hand to reveal that the sequel s title will be Shazam: Fury of the Gods, although the panel did not specify which gods in question are so furious, why, and at whom. Comedian Sinbad was also involved, which teased that maybe he might be in the sequel, although there s a strong chance he was just there as a reference to the Internet s most discussed example of The Mandela Effect. 6. ADAM PALLY, AUBREY PLAZA JOIN BELUSHI BIOPIC(Photo by Priscilla Grant, Dee Cercone/Everett Collection)Some stars are so larger-than-life that they get multiple biopics. One such example is John Belushi, who was depicted by Michael Chiklis in Wired (Rotten at 4%) in 1989, just seven years after Belushi s death in 1982 at the age of 33. The new biopic, to be titled just Belushi, made the news in December, as at that point, Broadway star Alex Brightman was expected to be starring as John Belushi. Possibly in the interest of attracting investors and financing, the producers of Belushi appear to be seeking more famous actors, as they are now in talks with Happy Endings co-star Adam Pally to play John Belushi instead. Two other major roles may also going to bigger names, as Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project) is in talks to play Belushi s Blues Brothers collaborator Dan Aykroyd, and Aubrey Plaza may be cast as Belushi s wife, Judith Belushi (Pisano). Belushi will be directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) from a screenplay by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness; co-writer of Wonder).7. ARE YOU READY TO GET KLUMPED AGAIN? THE NUTTY PROFESSOR REBOOT IN THE WORKS (Photo by Universal courtesy Everett Collection)The pop culture obsession with the 1980s and the rate at which movies from that era have inspired remakes has arguably had an impact on how quickly movies from the 1990s are receiving their own remakes. Consider, for example, how many more remakes of 1980s movies there were in 2010 than there were 1990s remakes in 2020. The biggest comedy hit of 1996 was itself a remake, as Eddie Murphy took over the role as The Nutty Professor (Fresh at 64%) originated by Jerry Lewis in the 1963 original (Fresh at 85%). Both movies were about an awkward scientist who transforms himself into an alter ego called Buddy Love, but Eddie Murphy s version also made the scientist morbidly obese (Jerry Lewis version was just goofy). The Nutty Professor is now getting a new reboot and it s coming from the same production company that is currently prepare to film Scream 5, itself a continuation of one of the 1990s most popular franchises. It s not yet known if this third iteration of The Nutty Professor will have any horror elements (one could see how it could easily drift into body horror ), or if it will just be a straight up comedy romp.8. ROCKETMAN STAR TARON EGERTON TO SMUGGLE TETRIS TO THE MASSES (Photo by Giles Keyte/©20th Century Fox Film Corp.)The 1984 video game hit Tetris has been such an innocuous part of pop culture for decades now that it is easy to forget that (and many people may not even know this) it was actually invented during the final years of the USSR. Taron Egerton (Rocketman, Kingsman: The Secret Service) is now signed to star in Tetris, which will depict the cloak and dagger efforts that led to the original Tetris video game effectively being smuggled out of the USSR, including the involvement of the KGB. Egerton will play Dutch-born video game entrepeneur Henk Rogers, whose story Egerton is calling definitely more Social Network than LEGO Movie. That distinction is important to point out, as there have indeed been stories in the recent past about a Tetris movie (or a trilogy, even) that would have been a more direct video game movie adaptation. This is a different Tetris movie, to be directed by the same director as Stan Ollie (Certified Fresh at 92%), even, to give you an idea of how unlike a video game movie it will probably be.

5.27.5 4月喜迎Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Cand… nah, we’re way too chicken to even try it. And if you’ve seen the trailer for director Nia DaCosta’s spiritual sequel to the early-1990s slasher classic, Candyman, you would be too. The highly anticipated film, from Jordan Peele’s production company Monkeypaw, promises a terrifying and fresh take on the legend of the hooked killer, one that digs into issues like the continual suppression of Black Americans as it delivers its genre thrills.Ahead of the movie’s release in theaters this August, Rotten Tomatoes sat down with DaCosta and star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays artist Anthony McCoy, who unknowingly reawakens evil in the film. In our exclusive extended conversation, the filmmaker and star open up about expanding the franchise’s mythology, the ways in which horror films can reflect (and critique) the real world that inspires them, Peele’s impact on the genre, and why they felt compelled to continue the Candyman story.Candyman is in theaters from Friday August 28, 2021. On an Apple device? (Photo by Disney+)Click image to see full poster in a new window.Getting a special group of directors together was important for Favreau from the get-go. Directors for the first season include Taika Waititi — who also voices assassin droid IG-11 — Bryce Dallas Howard, and Rick Famuyiwa.“This is where you re going to see a lot of people that are working in this incubator of story and technology,” Favreau said. “[It’s] people who got together because they love Star Wars.”But the most exciting inclusion in the first season’s director brigade for long time fans is Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni. After steering the Star Wars animated ship for the last decade or so, he makes his live action debut with The Mandalorian’s debut episode. And without giving too much away, we can say the material feels like Filoni work.“I treated it as boot camp for me to learn this type of filmmaking. I was on set every day, the whole season. And so I ve learned [by] watching every single one of our directors,” Filoni said, adding that watching the  great cast and crew behind the scenes was also an education. As an animation director, he already knew the key elements of visual storytelling, but he admitted at least one practical element of live action filmmaking eluded him until working on The Mandalorian. “I didn t really have to worry [if] the sun is going down [in animation],” Filoni said. Despite losing complete control of lighting situations on the show’s gorgeous locations, Filoni said he enjoyed the “concrete nature” of shooting live action.“It s incredibly spontaneous. It s going to happen right there, in the moment, and then that s it,” he explained. “[In animation,] I can tweak a tiny eyebrow or a tiny smirk [of a character] … just a little bit of push in a direction will dramatically change the character.”But, he admitted, capturing that moment in live action is “the real magic” of putting actors in front of a camera.

The rankings represent the most up-to-date Tomatometer scores as of December 31, 2019.All the lists on the Golden Tomato Awards are ordered by Adjusted Score, which is a weighted formula that compensates for the variation in the number of reviews when comparing movies or TV shows.Limited releases are defined as opening in fewer than 600 theaters at initial release. Platform releases, or movies initially released in fewer than 600 theaters that later expand, are categorized as Wide Release.Movies are eligible for the United Kingdom and Australia awards when at least four of these requirements are met: country of production company, country where the film is set, filming location, writer nationality, director nationality, cast nationality.Foreign releases are defined as non-English language films. In order to qualify for a Golden Tomato Award, a movie must have been released in American theaters in 2019, and it must have at least 40 reviews. For TV, all eligible seasons/movies must have premiered in the 2019 calendar year, and have a minimum of 20 reviews from different critics for the season or its episodes, including at least 5 reviews by top critics.
(Photo by © Lucasfilm Ltd, Twentieth Century Fox)The arrival of Star Wars: The Bad Batch on May 4 is another step in Star Wars’s growing presence on Disney+. With its offerings on the streamer previously confined to The Mandalorian and the extant feature films and animated series, Lucasfilm stunned fans and investors last December with an ambitious plan to produce as many as 10 television series for Disney+ in the next decade. In addition to its Disney+ roster, the company also intends to make at least three features by 2027.So yes, there is a ton of new Star Wars movies and new Star Wars series flying our way.Of course, fans of Star Wars media already knew the fictional galaxy could fuel hundreds of film and shows. They also hope the expansion of Star Wars content means there will be room for Jedi Knight protagonist Kyle Katarn to re-enter the canon. And canonicity is a big deal for Star Wars. When Disney first bought Lucasfilm, they declared all previous Star Wars comics, novels, games, and cartoons (except for the long-running Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as non-canon legends of the Star Wars galaxy. The move was made to offer maximum freedom to the filmmakers involved in the Sequel Trilogy (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and Rise of Skywalker), but it didn t take long for Legends characters and ideas to seep back into programs like Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian. And, as you will see in this guide to Star Wars’s streaming and theatrical future below, those senses of canon and continuity are as important to the galaxy far, far away as the Force itself. Here we ve gathered everything we know about every Star Wars movie and series coming to streaming and theaters in the next few years, and broken down how they fit into the emerging Star Wars galaxy. Tell us which new Star Wars projects you re most excited about in the comments.Disney+ SeriesThe Book Of Boba Fett(Photo by © Lucasfilm Ltd.)Premiere Date: December 2021What We Know: Announced in the closing moments of The Mandalorian’s second season last winter, the program will follow Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) as he reclaims his place in the galactic underworld. Whether or not the the series begins from the scene of him taking over Jabba the Hutt’s old palace, which we saw in The Mandalorian, remains to be seen. Along for the ride is Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), who owes a debt to Fett and whose own story seems to be spread across the various Star Wars shows – she is also scheduled to make an appearance on The Bad Batch (with Wen providing her voice). Behind the camera, El Mariachi director Robert Rodriguez – who directed Fett s full return to Star Wars in a second-season Mandalorian episode – joins executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni as an Executive Producer and creative force in the story. According to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, the series will debut in December, although it is possible the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may delay that plan. That said, filming began in November 2020 and seems to have occurred without incident. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: As with The Mandalorian, the series will continue to develop the post-Empire galaxy in the era between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. But by focusing its gaze on the criminals, it gets to tell a wholly new story. Although, it is easy to imagine Fett’s old brigade of bounty hunters might stop by to wish him well on his new endeavor.Star Wars Visions(Photo by Lucasfilm Ltd.)Premiere Date: 2021What We Know: The 10-episode anthology series will feature leading Japanese anime studios as they bring a new spin to Star Wars locations and characters. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: As this is an anthology concerned with the distinctive styles of the participating animation studios, we’re not sure how it fits or even if it will be canon. With Disney+ uploading non-canon content like the Ewoks TV movies and Genndy Tartakovsky’s 2-D Clone Wars series in recent days, there is room for Visions to ruminate on the ideas of Star Wars without being bound to the state of the galaxy or Lucasfilm s overall plans for ongoing stories. Although, with one of the episodes inspiring author Emma Mieko Candon s upcoming novel, Star Wars Visions: Ronin, the program may yet prove to be a vital part of Star Wars. The Mandalorian: Season 3(Photo by © 2020 Lucasfilm Ltd. All Rights Reserved.)Premiere Date: Early 2022What We Know: Reportedly beginning production in early April, the program will begin a new story as Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) deals with the repercussions of becoming the heir apparent to the throne of Mandalore. Presumably, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) will not be too thrilled about that development, but will it lead to them fighting for the Darksaber or hashing out some sort of accord? Also, will Djarin finally accept that he must help liberate the planet from the Imperial Remnant? Meanwhile, Grogu begins his training with Luke Skywalker. Although, it is easy to imagine circumstances will lead the Child back to Djarin. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: As the flagship show, The Mandalorian still sets the pace in the post-ROTJ galaxy. With Imperial Remnants still working towards some sort of plan to push back the New Republic – and the New Republic trying to create order in the generally lawless Outer Rim – the stage will eventually be set for the weakened Republic glimpsed in the Sequel Trilogy.Andor(Photo by Walt Disney Pictures)Premiere Date: 2022What We Know: One of two programs announced for Disney+ before the platform launched – the other being The Mandalorian – Andor has been long in the planning. Finally beginning production in November of 2020, the 12-episode series will star Diego Luna as his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character, Cassian Andor, in a story set five years before the events of the film. Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller are along for the adventure, as is Genevieve O Reilly as Mon Montha, a key figure in the Rebel Alliance that the actor has played in Star Wars media since a scene cut from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. And although Alan Tudyk was originally meant to reprise his role as K-2SO, the actor revealed in January of 2021 that the droid will not appear in the first season. The series was originally developed by Jared Bush, but Rogue One writer Tony Gilroy is credited as creator. He also serves as showrunner, replacing The Americans’ Stephen Schiff, although his plan to direct the first three episodes was curtailed by the pandemic. Toby Haynes picked up the director chores alongside Ben Caron and Susanna White. Joining Gilroy in the writers’ room is his brother, Dan Gilroy, and House of Cards’ Beau Willimon. Schiff is also still onboard as an episode writer. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: Thanks to its place in the timeline – five or so years before the original Star Wars – the program has the opportunity to expose hidden depths within the Rebel Alliance which could set up conflicts in the post-ROTJ era. Also, it could be a chance to establish Star Wars Rebels characters in live action while telling its own story of intrigue and suspense.Obi-Wan Kenobi(Photo by Industrial Light Magic/Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation/Courtesy Everett Collection)Premiere Date: 2022What We Know: Growing out of an abandoned Star Wars Story film, the series sees Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, the loyal Jedi sent into exile on Tatooine following the conclusion of the Clone Wars and the Old Republic’s descent into Empire. The cast also includes Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O Shea Jackson Jr., Moses Ingram, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, and Maya Erskine. Edgerton and Piesse reprise their Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clone roles as Owen Lars and Beru Whitsun, although they now serve as guardians to a roughly ten-year-old Luke Skywalker. Also set to return: Prequel Trilogy star Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. The Mandalorian’s Deborah Chow serves as director and executive producer alongside Kennedy, McGregor, and Tracey Seaward. Joby Harold takes over writing duties from Hossein Amini, who left the project sometime in early 2020. Production on the six-episode limited series is reportedly underway right now.How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: Set 10 years prior to the original Star Wars film and focusing on a time when everyone presumed Obi-Wan was just meditating in the desert and waiting for Luke to grow up, it may offer some further insights into characters seen on The Book of Boba Fett or glimpsed on The Mandalorian’s various trips to Tatooine. But for longtime fans, the chance to see Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru again may be the program’s biggest gift.Ahsoka(Photo by (c) 2020 Lucasfilm Ltd. TM. All Rights Reserved)Premiere Date: TBDWhat We Know: After her debut in The Mandalorian s second season, Rosario Dawson returns as the live-action version of the Star Wars: Clone Wars fan-favorite character. Although no plot details are as yet available, fans assume the series will pick up from Rebels closing moments with Ahsoka continuing her search for the long-missing Ezra Bridger. That said, it is always possible that journey has ended and Ahsoka s only mission is to track down Grand Admiral Thrawn. It is currently unclear how quickly the series will go into production or who will actually run the program. But considering Filoni’s long association with the character, the program may serve as his first live-action production as showrunner. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: In continuing Ahsoka’s story – and possibly resolving Ezra’s – the program serves as both a cap to her animated adventures and the beginning of a new era for the character. As it happens, her voice is heard toward the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, suggesting she is one with the Force by Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) time. Answering how she got there may be part of the show’s mission statement, but we’ll be quite happy if it takes another 10 years to reveal how her physical form meets its final end.Rangers of the New Republic(Photo by © Lucasfilm Ltd.)Premiere Date: TBDWhat We Know: A third new series from Favreau and Filoni – the others being The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka will follow a group of New Republic soldiers in the same era as The Mandalorian. While Kennedy offered few details about this show during a Disney Investor Day presentation in December of 2020, she mentioned it will cross over with other stories from The Mandalorian and Ahsoka to culminate in an “event” at some point in the future. An Avengers-style crossover would be a new thing for Star Wars, so it will be interesting to see how this develops. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: As the program is the most mysterious, the crossover seems to be the most tantalizing element. Will the liberation of Mandalore be saved for it? Or will a larger skirmish with the Imperial Remnant prove to be its focus? Also, considering the state of the galaxy in the Sequel Trilogy, did the Rangers mission fail? Definitely a question worth exploring. The Acolyte(Photo by © Lucasfilm)Premiere Date: TBDWhat We Know: The long-in-the-works project from Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland and Lucasfilm story executive Rayne Roberts will focus on a character during the final days of the High Republic – a period roughly a century before the Skywalker Saga – who comes to know shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers. The mystery/thriller series will also reportedly feature a martial arts element, so fans of the Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi video game may finally get a chance to be recognized for their loyalty. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: The High Republic is the current focus of Lucasfilm’s publishing initiatives, so the series will presumably import some of its recently introduced novel and comic book characters to the streaming screen. Also, as the era is a fresh period in Star Wars history, it has the room to create new locales and situations free of the Skywalker Saga or even the galaxy as mapped by Favreau and Filoni.Lando(Photo by © Lucasfilm)Premiere Date: TBDWhat We Know: Dear White People’s Justin Simien is developing a limited series devoted to charismatic card player and scoundrel Lando Calrissian. While it is unclear who will play the title role, a teaser video featuring Lando’s unblemished Millennium Falcon shown during the 2020 Investor Day presentation suggests it will go back to the days before he met Han Solo. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: That all depends on when it takes place. A focus on the older Lando (played by Billy Dee Williams) could follow up on his promise to help Jannah (Naomi Ackie) find her people and offer us the first glimpse of the galaxy following the destruction of the New Republic and the First Order. A series primarily concerned with young Lando (played by Donald Glover) would be less concerned with lore and, potentially, revel in the fun of being a scoundrel. And, then, of course, the program could be about both things at once – a storytelling device Star Wars has yet to really employ in its live-action efforts.MoviesStar Wars: Rogue Squadron(Photo by Clay Enos/©Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection)Release Date: December 22, 2023What We Know: First revealed at the 2020 Investor Day presentation, Rogue Squadron will be directed by Wonder Woman s Patty Jenkins and focus on a new generation of X-Wing pilots. In a video posted to her Twitter account, Jenkins revealed the story is personal as her father was a fighter pilot who lost his life in service to his country. She also subsequently clarified that the film will honor the Rogue Squadron video games and novels even as it flies off in its own direction. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: That all depends on when the film takes place. For the moment, we re going to presume Star Wars feature films will continue to move forward from the time of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the new Rogue Squadron forms to aid whatever government replaces the New Republic. That means characters from the Sequel Trilogy like Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) could show up, but don t rule out another big time-jump to set the film apart from the Skywalker Saga entirely.Untitled Taika Waititi Star Wars Film(Photo by Jasin Boland/©Marvel)Release Date: 2025 (Our Guess)What We Know: Although the industry knew about Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi s Star Wars project for some time, Kennedy finally commented on it in December 2020, saying his approach to Star Wars will be fresh, unexpected, and unique.   She also pointed to his talent – which is evident in his films – and his sense of humor as two strengths which will set Waititi s project apart from other Star Wars endeavors. Presumably, it will fill the Star Wars feature film slot Disney is currently holding for 2025; considering he is currently working with Disney on Thor: Love and Thunder for a February, 2022 release, the timing should work out.How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: Like Jenkins s film, it all depends on when it is set. With thousands of years of lore available to explore, Waititi could do just about anything he wants – from a story set on the world where sentient creatures first felt the Force to a film set entirely in Ackmena s (Beatrice Arthur) cantina from The Star Wars Holiday Special. And as Ragnarok proved, he can make just about any Star Wars setting a place of laughs, jeopardy, and thrills.Rian Johnson s Star Wars Trilogy: Episode I(Photo by David James/ © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/Lucasfilm Ltd. /Courtesy Everett Collection)Release Date: 2027 (Our Guess)What We Know: First announced in 2017, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is expected to spearhead a new trilogy sometime in the next decade – writing and directing the first film himself. And although he reportedly reaffirmed his involvement as recently as this past February, no additional details are known. Currently, the director is expected to fast-track two sequels to his hit film Knives Out after Netflix paid almost half a billion dollars for the chance to stream them. Of course, that may not prevent his Star Wars trilogy from going forward as Lucasfilm seems happy to wait for him and build out different regions of the galaxy in the interim. Whether he ll be done telling Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) mysteries in time to make a film to fill the 2027 release date Disney has mapped out for a Star Wars film is anyone s guess. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: Right now, it doesn t. It s just an agreement to make a series of movies, and as seen with Lucasfilm s quick decision to cancel the Star Wars Story anthology of films in wake of Solo: A Star Wars Story s underperformance, that deal could dissolve at any moment. See also: the company s about-face regarding a series of films to be developed by Game of Thrones executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.A Droid Story(Photo by Courtesy the Everett Collection)Release Date: TBDWhat We Know: As Kennedy described at the 2020 Investor Day presentation, the only Star Wars TV movie currently on the Disney+ roster will be an “epic journey” featuring a new hero guided by Star Wars most famous droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO. Although the Lucasfilm president was light on story details, she did mention the project will be a chance for the company’s animation and live-action special effects groups to stretch their expertise to its limits. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: Like Visions, the film may also be freed from canon. At the same time, that new hero whom Artoo and Threepio guide could become part of Patty Jenkins s upcoming Star Wars: Rogue Squadron feature, a subsequent film, or, perhaps, a story set after well after Rey put an end to Sheev Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).Untitled Kevin Feige Star Wars Film(Photo by Albert L. Ortega/WireImage)Release Date: TBDWhat We Know: Word first broke in 2019 that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was involved in developing a Star Wars film with Kennedy. At the time, Walt Disney Studios Co-Chairman Alan Horn said it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together. Like the first episode of the Johnson trilogy, it could end up becoming the Star Wars feature Disney releases in 2027. Then again, Feige s calendar is much busier than Johnson s and he ll likely be deep into planing Phase 6 or 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the time the film would need to be shooting to meet that release date. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: Not even Baskin-Robbins knows how it will fit into the rest of Lucasfilm s plans for Star Wars.Untitled J.D. Dillard Star Wars Project(Photo by Leon Bennett/WireImage)Release Date: TBDWhat We Know: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sleight director J.D. Dillard and Marvel TV writer Matt Owens (Luke Cage) are developing some sort of Star Wars project for Lucasfilm. In the year since the story first broke, though, no additional details have come to light. And even at the time of reporting, it was unclear if the project would be a Disney+ series, TV movie, or feature film. That ambiguity makes it an even more tenuous project than Johnson s trilogy. How It Fits Into the Emerging Star Wars Galaxy: Curiously, Dillard made a brief appearance in The Rise of Skywalker as FN-1226, one of the stormtroopers Rey mindtricks during Chewbacca s (Joonas Suotamo) rescue. Whether or not this would play into his project is unknown, but it does remind us that many First Order soldiers, stolen from their parents at a young age and conditioned to serve First Order interests, still deserve to be liberated. Well, the ones who survived the Battle of Exegol, anyway.Which Star Wars projects are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments. On an Apple device? (Photo by Niko Tavernise, © Warner Bros. )Moviegoers are about to go Joker crazy when the film, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, arrives in theaters this October. The character is one of the masterworks that comics gave to the literary canon, and his on-screen development into a lead divorced from Batman was inevitable. He has fascinated readers for decades, and as Phillips and Phoenix prepare to finally unleash their character study on audiences, we thought we’d take a look at some the best comic-book stories featuring the Clown Prince of Crime – a kind of homework guide for Joker enthusiasts leading up to release. And to make things interesting, we’re taking Batman: The Killing Joke out of the running. (Because, well, you already know that one back to front.) Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s 1988 masterpiece is the definitive Joker story. It purports to tell you the 100 percent true origin of the Joker – a failed comedian who turned to crime – only for the Joker to reveal he’s forgotten who he used to be beyond knowing one bad day made him Batman’s greatest enemy. And he plans to give Jim Gordon that one bad day, but utterly fails to break anyone in the process. Bolland’s art, with colors by John Higgins, is absolutely exquisite with its dual sense of realism and cartooning. The whole package is the inspiration for The Dark Knight and Joker, even if Phillips set out to create a new origin for the character. It is always the top of any list of Joker stories. But what else stands out when we enshrine The Killing Joke as the unimpeachable best Joker story? Take a look below and find out.10. “The Man Behind The Red Hood” from Detective Comics #168(Photo by DC Comics)For roughly 11 years, the origin of the Grim Jester was not really an issue in the pages of DC Comics. Co-creator Bill Finger and other writers were pretty happy with him the way he was. Flash forward to 1951, when the decision was made to introduce a slice of the Joker’s history. In the story, Batman agrees to teach a criminology class at “State University.” As his students become better detectives, he challenges them to determine the identity of the Red Hood, a criminal he faced 10 years prior but never defeated. News of the homework assignment brings the Red Hood out of retirement to steal the university’s payroll fund. The robber is stymied by Batman and eventually apprehended after some more high jinks, revealing the Joker under the Red Hood.Despite some silly 1950s comic book conventions – and the problematic rendering of Hawaiian criminology student Paul Wong by artists Lew Sayre Schwartz, Win Mortimer, and George Roussos – the story is gripping, with the narrator challenging readers to find the clues to the Red Hood’s identity. In hindsight, references to the hood obscuring “the shape of the chin” and Robin’s use of a “botched” chemical process to uncover a green hair from the Red Hood’s discarded hat are really clever tells. You could imagine a reader either missing these details (despite Batman’s insistence to look closer) or getting excited as the story begins to confirm their hypothesis. Even if you know the answer already, the tension ramps up in an unexpected and pleasing way.The story also has a legacy in introducing the Joker’s early, less inspired, criminal persona. By doing so, it acknowledged that his true identity was a mystery Batman never cracked.9. “The Joker’s Comedy of Errors” from Batman (Vol. 1) #66Sixty five issues into Batman’s run, the Joker’s early days as a laughing killer were behind him. Instead, he was Gotham City’s most flamboyant bank robber. But we’ll be honest, this story is famous – or infamous – thanks to the way language changes, making a single word used throughout the story seem like the title character is playing a long-game practical joke on readers across the decades. That word? “Boner.” At the time, it was synonymous with “a screw-up,” not “an erection.” We’re not sure when the meaning completely changed (although we suspect it was sometime in the 1980s), but it seems writer Bill Finger was unaware of its randy connotation back in the 1950s.Then again, maybe he was having a laugh alongside the Joker. In the story, the Joker commits a silly blunder during a robbery, which makes him the butt of a running joke around town, with even newspaper headlines referencing his boner. Aggravated, he sets out to make Gotham “rue the day they mentioned the word ‘boner’” by committing crimes based on famous blunders in history. His primary target is, of course, Batman, who falls for the trap in order to find Joker’s hideout and take him into custody.Published the same year as “The Man Behind the Red Hood,” there’s something archly mid-century about the whole thing, particularly in the innocence surrounding the now-ribald term. But it is also a window into what the Comics Code Authority-sanctioned version of Joker looked like. Without his original murderous drives, these were the sorts of shenanigans he concerned himself with for almost 25 years before homicide returned to his tight five-minute act.But for all the latter-day guffawing over the Joker’s boner, the story is also a prime example of the character’s incredible ego and how it often gets the better of him.8. “The Joker’s Millions” from Detective Comics #180The Joker’s egotistical imperative would be the cause of his downfall in this story from writer David V. Reed (as David Vern) and artists Dick Sprang and Charles Paris. The plot sees Joker inheriting a vast fortune from a rival mob boss only to discover most of it was counterfeit. At the same time, an IRS agent arrives at his new home to tell him he owes million in inheritance tax. Unfortunately, the Joker’s ego prevents him from telling the agent that the fortune is a sham. If word got out that he had been hoodwinked, he’d be the laughingstock of the criminal underworld! To pay the taxman and avoid suspicion, he sets out to commit “ordinary” crimes, but fate keeps making the crimes seem more fabulously theatrical and Joker-esque. It proves to be the key in aiding Batman to foil his foe. Joker s tax problems, though, are never resolved. The Joker’s increasing need to save face propels this story past a lot of other tales from the era because of the way it plays Joker’s fears straight. The last thing he wants to reveal to his contemporaries is flopsweat. While far from the murderous Grim Jester of the Golden Age, it is one of the best character studies of the “Crime Clown” ever published in 20th Century Detective. In fact, the story would later be adapted into an episode of 1998’S The New Batman Adventures.7. The Batman Adventures: Mad Love(Photo by DC Comics)How can a list of great Joker stories not feature at least one with Harley Quinn? Adapted from an episode of The New Batman Adventures by the show’s executive producers, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, Mad Love reveals the twisted adoration Dr. Harleen Quinzel felt for Joker when he became one of her patients at Arkham Asylum. But beyond serving as Harley’s origin tale, Mad Love introduces a new, sinister side to the Joker – he’s an abuser. While Timm’s wonderful illustrations give the story more of a cartoon air, Joker’s treatment of Harley features all the classic signs of abuse. And because Timm portrays the violence more directly than in the animated episode, it is hard to look at panels in which “Mistah J” browbeats her with verbal slings or straight-up hits her without wincing. As with many of the great Joker stories, he is undone by his ego. But here, the lovely twist involves Harley and the Joker’s fears that he would become a punchline if she killed Batman. It not only saves Batman from a death by piranha, but it allows him to defeat the Joker with one word: puddin’.Mad Love really set the tone for Joker and Harley’s twisted affair, and while it has been over for a long time in the comics – and little more than backstory for the cinematic Harley – this foundational moment forever altered the character into something both more brutal and charismatic.6. Batman #1In his first appearance from Batman #1’s untitled feature story, the Joker arrives fully formed with design and gimmick already firmly established. Even his penchant for using the media to announce his crimes debuts in this story. Curiously, though, this version of the murderous clown is light on humor – the puns in the story are delivered by Batman and Robin – while high on an unsettling grin he both wears himself and leaves on the faces of his victims. Nonetheless, he proves to be an adversary even Batman has to admit is worthy. While very much a Golden Age story in terms of plot and character, its enduring legacy is the look of Joker himself. Unlike the initial Bob Kane/Bill Finger design of the Bat-Man, which evolved quite a bit across his first few years, Kane and ghost artist Jerry Robinson (credited as inker here) had a clear picture in terms of color, clothes, and Joker s rictus face, which overwhelms any panel he appears in. The character would immediately reappear in the issue’s second story and become the Dark Knight’s true arch foe.5. “The Joker’s Five Way Revenge” From Batman (Vol. 1) #251(Photo by DC Comics)After a long absence in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Joker returned to comics under the direction of writer Denny O’Neil and artist Neal Adams. The pair had been revamping Batman for some time, removing the campier elements accrued from the 1950s. Batman became his own narrator and a truly dynamic adventurer on the page, thanks to Adams s style and O’Neil’s plots. They gave Joker the same treatment in a fairly simple tale of revenge. Knowing one member of his gang turned state’s evidence on him, he resolves to kill them all. Batman has mere hours to stop him and pretty much fails. But so does Joker in a scene that recalls some of his Silver Age screw-ups but also plays on the slicker, darker tone O’Neil and Adams were bringing to Batman. The story also presents a lasting legacy for the character: the affirmation that he is a killer. The Joker may have spent decades attempting zany clown-themed robberies, but at his heart, he is something far more grotesque. From this point on, he would always be a murderer.4. Batman: The Man Who LaughsEd Brubaker and Doug Mahnke’s 2005 retelling of the Batman #1 story benefits from all the advancements in comics over the course of 66 years. Mahnke’s art underscores the unsettling nature of the Joker’s laughing gas while giving the villain a wide range of expressions. Brubaker’s script, meanwhile, highlights how far both Batman and Commissioner Gordon have come in terms of characters since 1939. In this telling, Gordon is still a Gotham City Police Captain while the Batman is a year-and-change into his career when the murderous clown destroys their footing. Both narrate their own parts of the story – as opposed to the omniscient narrator, Bill Finger, in the original tale – and Joker uses television instead of radio to announce his arrival.Consequently, the story gets reframed as the week both Batman and Gordon realize Gotham will never be the home of simple, predictable crime ever again. Batman may stop Joker from poisoning the city aqueduct, but the floodgates are opened to costumed crazies. In this, Joker is very much an “unknowable force of nature” and a thrill to see on the page.3. Batman: A Death in the Family(Photo by DC Comics)Running from Batman #426-429, A Death in the Family by Jim Starlin, Jim Aparo, and Mike DeCarlo was a major turning point in DC Comics history. Jason Todd, the second Robin, finally tracks down his long-lost birth mother, but their happy reunion turns sour when he learns she’s in league with the Joker. She quickly hands him over to the clown, who savagely beats Jason within an inch of his life, ties up his mother, and blows them both up. To read those scenes again in Batman #428 is to see the Joker fully unleashed. It is surprisingly brutal for a mainline DC Comic of the late 1980s.But as great Joker stories often see him murder or brutalize members of the Batman cast, it takes a little more to make this the representative of that type of tale. And that something more is what Joker does after Batman finds Jason s corpse: He returns to the U.S. as a United Nations dignitary from Iran (!), and because he has diplomatic immunity, Superman warns Batman not to interfere with his UN duties. His ambassadorship turns out to be another murderous plot – the Iranian government hired him to kill the UN General Assembly – which Superman foils even as Batman prepares to pursue the Joker across New York. It ends with a helicopter crash and the apparent death of the Joker. But he eventually returns to hassle Jason’s replacement, Tim Drake.Besides the wild ending reflecting American attitudes toward the Middle East at the time, we also see Joker’s callousness and theatricality on display. He works with people as long as they amuse him, but as soon as he learns one of his accomplices is Robin’s mother, she becomes an added bonus in his suddenly murderous scheme. Jason would eventually return from the dead, but Joker will always count killing a Robin as one of his greatest hits.2. “Fool’s Errand” From Detective Comics  #726This 1998 story is an absolutely brilliant tale by Chuck Dixon and Brian Stelfreeze in which Joker does his best Hannibal Lecter impression. Batman is forced into the Will Graham role as he turns to his greatest nemesis for clues about a child abduction case on the anniversary of Jason Todd’s death. The kidnapper served next to Joker at Arkham Asylum and it is clear the whole caper was devised by the clown to get at the Bat.For most of the issue, the two spar in Joker’s cell – although their discussion is counterpointed with scenes of Batman tearing through a mob-controlled ferry to get to the victim. Finally, the Joker claims boredom and just straight up tells Batman where the missing girl is. The Dark Knight returns to Arkham shortly thereafter to learn the why the Joker was willing to offer a life-saving tip. His answer is one of the cruelest and most ingenious punchlines the failed comedian ever devised so much so, we don’t want to spoil it other than to say it may actually be the archfiend’s masterpiece. The story may not have a lasting legacy, but it is a prime example of the character’s intelligence and tenacity. He crafts a long game (in which no one gets killed) to deliver a punishing blow upon his nemesis.1. Batman: White KnightThere have been a handful of “Joker goes straight” stories over the years, but none are as sprawling, effective, or as richly detailed as Sean Murphy’s 2017-2018 miniseries, Batman: White Knight. In it, an increasingly unhinged Batman forces the Joker to ingest a mysterious antipsychotic drug at a disused lab. Video of the incident goes viral, causing Gotham to lose faith in its Dark Knight. Meanwhile, the drug suppresses Joker and allows his original persona – Jack Napier – to take control. Their methods may be quite different, for the most part, but Jack and Joker want the exact same thing: command of Gotham. And so Jack sets out to amass legal and political power to become its white knight. The premise leads to sublime character studies of the Joker, Batman, and a few other members of the Batman cast. The story is also filled with great action sequences and big emotions. It may also be the best Harley Quinn story to date.Murphy’s art sets his Gotham apart from any other you’ve seen. But as he also draws inspiration from the Batman feature films, Batman: The Animated Series, and 80 years of Batman comics, the world feels immediately familiar. His decision to make Jack Napier the person under the Joker’s greasepaint – and his decision to make Jack one of the story’s two surprising heroes – makes absolute sense by page 20. In some ways, it serves as the reverse of The Killing Joke. Where that story sets out to make Joker an unknowable force – his real memories are a mystery to him – White Knight offers an intimate look at the man inside and reveals a possibility for redemption. Besides being a cracking great Joker story, it may be the best Batman story told since the turn of the century.Like this? Ghcxuf Season 4 opens with Dean Fogg (Rick Worthy) having wiped the memories of several series leads, including Quentin, Penny (Arjun Gupta), Margo (Summer Bishil), Kady (Jade Tailor), and Josh (Trevor Einhorn), which gives them new identities and no knowledge of magic. Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley) still has her memories, but she’s imprisoned by the Head Librarian (Mageina Tovah) for breaking her deal with the Library. With the help of Dean Fogg, the Library has harnessed magic and is now portioning out its use – an arrangement that no one else is happy about. Meanwhile, Eliot (Hale Appleman) picked up a dark passenger in the season 3 finale: He’s now possessed by a childlike, sociopathic ancient being whose idea of play involves murder as sport. We got a fix on TV and streaming’s favorite magical millennials during our visit. Here’s what they and McNamara had to say about the characters and season 4.Olivia Taylor Dudley as Alice“At the beginning of the season we pick up where we left off: Alice is in the Library Jail for the first few episodes, and she is locked away, and is miserable. It s not a good place to be and Alice is the only one of the main cast who doesn t have a glamour, and she doesn t know that they do. So, she s in there with zero information; last she knows she may have killed all of her friends — she s not sure!“So, she s kind of losing her mind in this little jail cell … The only other person I got to work with was my cellmate across the way who we don t even get to see — we re just talking through air vents in the ceiling.“It was some of my favorite scenes, actually as an actor the exercise of working alone in a cell and having a ton of dialogue with someone on a different wall was really fun … The first few episodes is Alice just trying to escape and trying to figure out if her friends are alive. Then the rest of the season — I ve been calling this season Alice’s redemption tour; she s going on a journey to gain her friends love and trust back, and it s not necessarily easy for most of them — especially Quentin, who takes the longest and — everyone has their feelings about what she did at the end of last year.“Alice still stands by it — or at least I do, maybe Alice doesn t, but Olivia does! Because in her mind she s just a very practical, smart woman, and she concluded at the end of the last season that magic is hurting and killing everyone she loves, so let s get rid of it! But what happens is one person can t make the decision for everybody; as we know, it doesn t work out well. So, she tried to save everybody and it backfired, so this year she s kind of sitting back, and I m trying to take her back to a little bit more of season 1 Alice — quietly thinking, plotting, and planning instead of just acting, because even she knows she s smart and has the power now. So, this year was really fun for me in making her a little bit softer than she s been the last two seasons. Niffin Alice really rubbed off on her, a lot, so now she s trying to get rid of that edge and just be with her friends, and she falls in love with magic again this year which was one of my favorite things about this season.”Jason Ralph as Quentin“That sort of ‘Avengers assemble’ vibe is very true, I think, to this group. It took a while to figure out what everyone s strengths were, and what everyone s purpose was in the group, and those lanes have now been defined, and so the way we make decisions is quicker. We don t have to sit down and figure everything out. It s like when a problem arises, we know that Quentin is going to be the idiot, and Penny is going to travel us, and Margo is going to beat the shit out of someone.“I think Quentin s always considered himself sort of a leader. I notice that there s that internal conflict, where he feels not good enough, and maybe not. I think he wants to be the person meant to be the leader, and is at odds with the fact that sometimes that s not true, or when the opportunity to be the leader presents itself, that he s maybe not up for it. That, I think, has been his conflict through all of this. I don t know that that goes away. I think he would definitely want to be, and sometimes he was, and sometimes he s not. Like all of us, right? That s what s so lovely about the characters and about the world: no one is one thing, and we do fail all the time, and we want to be things that we re not, and the grass is always greener.”Stella Maeve as Julia“She grapples with [her loss of powers] in season 4 … The way the writers described it to me was like a weird purgatory. So I think she s kind of just trying to figure that out throughout the season: What am I doing? What is this meaning? Is this a message, and what is my purpose?“This is the most fun I have in a long time. It s awesome. I got to hang out with Hale which is really cool … I ve never had really any dialogue with Margo, and this is the first season I ve had any dialogue with Eliot — it s not really Eliot, it s monster Eliot, so it s kind of wild.”Arjun Gupta as Penny“I was unique in the situation where my character, my glamour character was completely different from Penny. He s DJ Hansel. He s the dude that went to India for two weeks and came back enlightened. And like wants to share and wants everybody to know how enlightened he is. Like always wears clothes from Thailand even though he went there once. Like that kind of person who s very ungrounded. Very like loose and free. Very free in his body which is different from Penny. So actually it was really fun. It was incredibly exciting.“I have to shout out Tarun Keram who was also with me. Because it s not just myself playing Hansel, Tarun was there playing him as well, because there are definitely shots of the scene where it s not me at all. It s like a different person. So basically the point of view of what like anyone outside of us in the world of The Magicians would see, wouldn t look like me, Penny, at all. It was a different human. So that was really cool and it was fun to work with him and he was amazing. It s an awkward situation for him because it s my character but also I wanted him, he wants to put in his own input. And he was really lovely and we just had a blast doing it, yeah.”Jade Tailor as Kady“I loved this season, for so many reasons. From a character standpoint, Kady had a huge t 😈😈

枪神纪激活码技巧 (Photo by Open Roadt/courtesy Everett Collection)All Liam Neeson Movies Ranked by TomatometerAfter a major film debut with 1981 s Excalibur, Liam Neeson spent the rest of that swingin decade slowly climbing the acting ladder. (See him randomly in Krull, The Mission, The Dead Pool, and more, for example.) But after holding his own opposite Patrick Swayze in 1989 s Next of Kin, Neeson was at last upgraded to star for Sam Raimi s dark superhero movie Darkman where he spends most of the movie disfigured and fully covered in bandages. Still, Darkman was a financial success, especially for an original superhero IP in this era, and Neeson carried on with lending his baritone gravitas in dramas like the Certified Fresh Husbands and Wives. In 1994, Neeson nabbed his only Oscar acting nomination with the monumental Schindler s List, which would go on to win Best Picture for producer Steven Spielberg, who of course also got Best Director. Neeson took on another significant title historical role a few years later with Michael Collins, before entering the pop cultural fray as the decidedly unhistorical (though we suppose it depends on who you ask) Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. And after that, just into the 21st century, Neeson appeared in Gangs of New York, Kingdom of Heaven, and Batman Begins. A resume that includes working with Raimi, Spielberg, Allen, Lucas, Scorsese, Scott, and Nolan? Sounds like that d be a career peak for most And yet 2008 s Taken was still to come, which would transform Neeson into the go-to mid-budget action guy, create a cottage industry of similar flicks to follow in its wake. Some were pretty good (Cold Pursuit, A Walk Among The Tombstones), others came out decent (The Commuter, Non-Stop), a few were god-awful (Taken 2, Taken 3), and some were one was amazing (The Grey). We also recently saw Neeson s softer side resurface with Ordinary Love, his first romantic film since 2003 s Love Actually and one of the best-reviewed films of his career, proving he remains as versatile as ever. To celebrate his birthday, we take a look back on all Liam Neeson movies ranked by Tomatometer!

(Photo by Disney+/Lucasfilm Ltd.)Speaking of the child (we re letting go of the capitalization now that he has a name), we learned some key details about his past. He was raised in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and began his training sometime before or during the Clone Wars. Hidden after the fall of the Old Republic, his memories of the ensuing two decades become hazy. This new intel rewrites our perception of Grogu as he is not quite the infant we assumed him to be. Although younglings were brought to the Order very early in their lives — Ahsoka herself was only 3 when she began training — the longevity of Yoda s species led us to believe Grogu, at age 50, was still, essentially, a newborn. But if the Jedi deemed him old enough to be trained, he has some understanding of the wider galaxy and his place in it.We also think he plays up the childlike innocence as a defense mechanism, much like Ahsoka s suggestion that he hides his powers in order to survive.Back on the rumor front, Dawson was long associated with Ahsoka and this proved to be correct. Biehn, meanwhile, ended up playing a far more minor figure than anyone guessed. Although, we noticed the initial reports of his involvement indicated he would play a bounty hunter. A merc is not far off from that, so those early reports were also more or less true; that said, we would ve liked to see him in a more pivotal role. With the conclusion of this episode, nearly all the credible rumors have been resolved and just about everything anticipated about the season has come to pass. It means next week s episode will be something fresh and surprising. Although, we wonder if the season s established pace means another detour before reaching Tython. As it happens, the planet is nestled in the Deep Core, so it will take the Razor Crest some time to get there.Questions for the Jedi(Photo by John Wilson/© Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)While we ponder how lightspeed travel will affect the pace of the show, there are some other questions to consider. Now that the Jedi have invaded The Mandalorian, it is time to wonder about some other key Star Wars characters.Where is Sabine Wren? Is she still looking for Ezra or did she find him? If things went poorly, is she also on the hunt for Thrawn? And, perhaps more importantly, will Djarin s journey bring him into contact with her? Presumably, she ll want to be part of the Bo-Katan s liberation force. Provided Sabine is still alive, of course.Has Ahsoka Reached Out to Luke Skywalker? While we re happy to never have a Skywalker appear on The Mandalorian, one would think Ahsoka would reach out to him and offer some guidance in rebuilding the Order. Then again, considering how disastrously Luke s attempt to rebuild the Jedi will go, maybe their conversation was ill-fated. He may be the Jedi she alluded to in her parting words with Djarin, but his track record suggests he is not the person to teach Grogu. Is Ezra Fated To Teach Grogu? Considering The Mandalorian wanders in Dave Filoni s quadrant of the galaxy, it is possible Ezra is best suited to aid the child. He may also be one of the Jedi Ahsoka mentioned and his journey to become one — chronicled in Rebels — makes him a far better candidate than Luke. Granted, we always prefer Jedi with more shades of gray to their philosophy than the absolutism Luke was taught. Also, we re assuming Grogu will want to be a Jedi. The visit to Tython may show him a different Way to follow. Is Grogu Related to Yoda? Now that we know he was in the Jedi Temple, the question must be asked. Considering how rare examples of Yoda s species seem to be — Ahoska apparently never met Jedi Master Yaddle, who left the council before the Clone Wars — a direct relationship between Grogu and Yoda is likely. Also, the longevity of the species and their high midi-chlorian counts suggest they may be more directly tied to the will of the Force than anyone suspects. Once again, we look to Tython with the hope its connection to the Force will shed more light on The Mandalorian s mysteries. The Mandalorian releases new episodes each Friday on Disney+.On an Apple device?
