亚博足球比分采用百度引擎4(Baidu 7)In the world of Game of Thrones, conventional wisdom would suggest Daenerys Targaryen has proved herself a fair and just leader, powerful, and compassionate, but firm. Others may see it that Jon Snow, aka Aegon Targaryen, truly is the rightful ruler by Westeros tradition, given that his father was the uncrowned king of the land Rhaegar Targaryen, killed before he could reveal his legitimate marriage to Jon s mother, Lyanna Stark. Or maybe possession really is nine-tenths of the law, and Cersei Lannister, who in no other way is the legitimate ruler, should continue to reign. Why bother watching season 8, when you can read our hot takes on who should sit the Iron Throne?Should Take the Throne: Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke)(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)Some in Deanery’s shoes would be content to rest on their laurels: She has two dragons and a rightful claim to the throne – case closed. But Daenerys has gone above and beyond to earn her place on the Iron Throne. She’s endured personal losses (her dear dead Drogo, their unborn child, her dear undead dragon) and inspired audiences over and over again with moments of strength and steeliness. Most of all, across seven seasons of city-hopping and army-charring, she’s proven a master strategist and builder of alliances, bringing together groups as disparate as the Dothrakis and the Unsullied to form a formidable force as she moves towards what’s rightfully hers.Should Take the Throne: Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage)(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)Don’t dismiss Tyrion Lannister as the Miss Congeniality of Thrones’ remaining contenders. He may be likable and gentle-hearted – at least in Westerosi terms – but he is also the shrewdest political mind left, a key skill to have in a place that gets so stabby. He’s in many ways one of the series’ ultimate survivors, managing to make it to adulthood despite his family’s unbridled hatred of him, and working his way to Daenerys’ side (the likely winning side). It should be noted he’s also part of the reason there’s still a throne for the series’ aspirants’ to sit on at all, stopping the destruction/sacking of King’s Landing not once but twice – and earning his scar in the process.Should Take the Throne: Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau)(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)One key to good leadership is growth, and few characters have grown quite as much as Jaime. After all, the wounded, chisel-jawed hero who has slowly won your heart over seven seasons was not so long ago the sister-bonking cad who pushed Bran out of a tower in the final moments of Thrones’ first-ever episode. It’s been a “journey.” Throughout that journey, we’ve seen Jaime develop a number of the traits that would steer him well as king (but perhaps make his reign somewhat short): a developing sense of selflessness, a propensity fo

Two of Netflix’s biggest titles are returning this month for a summer binge — and that’s just the half of it! With the reboot of Veronica Mars on Hulu, the final season of Suits on USA, and Sarah Jessica Parker still charming away on HBO, there’s plenty to keep us busy in front of the small screen. Catch up on it all below.Divorce 78% (HBO)What it is: After reaching household-name status and everygirl envy on Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker makes her way back to prestige TV’s small screen with Divorce, where she stars as Frances, a middle-aged mother and beleaguered wife to Robert (Thomas Hayden Church), who, after having an affair, realizes they’d both be better off without having a ring on it.Why you should watch it: Parker has always been a fine actress, and she puts her well-practiced on-screen skill set to excellent use here, mining creator Sharon Horgan’s (Catastrophe) emotionally hefty and darkly humorous scripts with empathetic aplomb. Season 3 premieres July 1 on HBO.Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, HBONow, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 9 hours (for the first two seasons)Stranger Things 93% (Netflix)What it is: A dark mystery overtakes a rural Indiana town when the young Will Byers goes missing and a young girl with a shaved head and telekinetic abilities appears. Something sinister and supernatural has come out to play — and that’s just the pilot! So buckle up. Why you should watch it: It was the synth-laden soundtrack heard ’round the world three summers ago when Stranger Things dropped out of nowhere onto Netflix and took us all by storm. A back-to-form Winona Ryder, career-best David Harbour, and breakout stars by way of all its kids (but particularly Emmy nominee Millie Bobby Brown) are pitch-perfect and paired with plenty of ’80s-era horror nostalgia to make you want to watch this series again and again — and there ain’t nothin’ strange about it. Season 3 streams July 4 on Netflix.Where to watch it: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 17 hours (for the first two seasons)Harlots 97% (Hulu)What it is: Set in 1763 London, Hulu’s Harlots charts the lives of sex workers in two warring brothels, one led by Margaret (Samantha Morton) and the other by Lydia (Lesley Manville). The series, from creators Alison Newman and Moira Buffini, is a period drama inspired by the true-life accounts documented in The Covent Garden Ladies by Hallie Rubenhold, but don’t let its nonfictional nature bore you: Harlots is more juicy than dry.Why you should watch it: Harlots is so much more than a show about sex — in fact, that subject is met with less titillation and more sterile professionalism. It instead subs in rich and complex characters, mostly women, and a backdrop that allows for explorations of gender and class in 18th century England. Furthermore, Oscar nominees Morton and Manville get the chance here to showcase just why they’re both widely considered British acting royalty. Season 3 premieres July 10 on Hulu.Where to watch it: Amazon, HuluCommitment: Approx. 12 hours (for the first two seasons)Snowfall 87% (FX)What it is: Created by the late John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron (the latter of whom serves as showrunner), Snowfall follows in the footsteps of other FX dramas like Atlanta in that it tells the story of an ostracized community in ways that we haven’t seen before — this time by dramatizing the rise and breakout of the first crack epidemic in 1984 Los Angeles and its greater impact on American culture at large. Why you should watch it: As riveting as it is eye-opening, this street crime series pulls no punches in its portrayal of the drug trade and its implications in both micro and macro spheres. Startling performances from its ensemble of relative newcomers also bring us into a world that until now has been left off narrative television — and they keep a hold on us there. Season 3 premieres July 10 on FX.Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 15 hours (for the first two seasons)Grantchester 95% (PBS)What it is: Fans of period drama from the other side of the pond will have plenty to sink their teeth into with Grantchester. All is not as it seems in the series’ titular village, and clergyman Sidney Chambers (James Norton of the excellent Happy Valley) is caught in the middle, balancing his faith and obligatory duties while investigating a series of crimes in the area. Why you should watch it: Based on James Runcie’s book series and adapted for the screen by Daisy Coulam, this U.K. transfer from ITV has drama to spare. While at face value it may seem like the prim and proper British drama, underneath this clerical collar are festering secrets and dark pasts that bubble to the surface over the course of Grantchester’s hour-long episodes. Each season is only six installments, so there’s plenty of time to binge and catch up before season 4 premieres July 14 on PBS.Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 15 hours (for the first three seasons)Suits 90% (USA)What it is: Creator Aaron Korsh struck gold in 2011 with this popular legal drama — and it’s got nine acclaimed seasons to prove it! The premise is simple: Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) is a law school dropout and brilliant fraudster who, upon impressing New York City’s top closer, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), lands a job as Harvey’s associate despite not having a license to practice law. But Mike proves that he’s up to snuff, and together he and Harvey work to keep his sordid past and illegitimacy a secret. Why you should watch it: Suits came into the international spotlight in recent years thanks to a new royal named Meghan Markle, but if that wasn’t reason enough for you to catch up on this USA Network affair, we’ve got a few more for you. The series works because it’s in on its own fun, and its high concept rags-to-riches premise rings true thanks to the chemistry of Adams and Macht. It’s a steep order to binge eight seasons, of course, but the show’s two charming leads and a formidable supporting cast have kept us coming back for more. Suits’ ninth and final season premieres July 17 on USA. (Fittingly, its new spin-off series, Pearson, also premieres that night on USA.)Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 94 hours (for the first eight seasons)Workin' Moms (Netflix)What it is: Creator and star Catherine Reitman plays the leader of a central group of friends and working moms as they make the transition from maternity leave back to office life. Why you should watch it: Being a mom is a full-time job paid in sleepless nights, dirty diapers, and, of course, unconditional love. Pair the laundry list of responsibilities that come with that job with a salaried 9-to-5, however, and tragic comedy is sure to ensue. That’s where Reitman comes in, translating it all for this semi-autobiographical sitcom. The Canadian series has already aired three seasons across the border; season 2 is finally making it to Netflix in the U.S. July 25.Where to watch it: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 6.5 hours (for the first season)Orange Is the New Black 90% (Netflix)What it is: Jenji Kohan’s runaway (but locked-up) Netflix hit is ensemble work at its finest, following the day-to-day lives of the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary and exploring the diverse crimes that got them there. Why you should watch it: Inspired by Piper Kerman’s (here Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling) real-life account of her arrest and imprisonment for drug-related money laundering, this hour-long dramedy opens up to include the equally heartbreaking (and often humorous) biographies of fellow inmates played by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba, Laverne Cox, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, Samira Wiley, and others. From season to season, Orange — revolutionary and acclaimed for its on-screen diversity — becomes more and more timely, tackling everything from trans rights to gender equality to Black Lives Matter. Its seventh and final season streams July 26 on Netflix.Where to watch it: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 68 hours (for the first six seasons)Veronica Mars 91% (Hulu)What it is: Set in the fictional town of Neptune, California, Veronica Mars follows the criminally charming Kristen Bell as our titular hero who cracks mounting mysteries as a high schooler and self-started private investigator. Why you should watch it: Veronica Mars is a CW cult classic from the early 2000s with an especially impassioned fanbase (its 2014 feature film was fully funded on Kickstarter) — and there’s no better time than now to see what all the hype is about. Its long-awaited fourth season returns July 26 on Hulu.Where to watch: Amazon, FandangoNOW, Google Play, Hulu, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 48 hours (for the first three seasons)The Letdown 91% (Netflix)What it is: They say misery loves company, and The Letdown has that in spades, charting the ups and downs of being a first-time mother through the eyes of Audrey, a woman trying to keep her head above water while being more than “just a mom.”Why you should watch it: This Australian comedy from creators Alison Bell and Sarah Scheller (the former of whom also stars) finds the pitch-black humor in newborn motherhood with the richly dry humor and self-deprecation native to its home country. Season 2 streams in full July 31 on Netflix.Where to watch: NetflixCommitment: About 3 hours (for the first season)Like this? 2. 公平游戏环境
Anthological true-crime series, reboots of a genre-defining classic, a reality hit starring a bevy of makeover masters, and a DC Comics property getting its due on the small screen are just a few of the seven acclaimed series returning this month. Catch up on all that and more with June 2020’s guide on what’s worth bingeing.    Dirty John 80% (USA Network)What it is: This true-crime anthology series from creator Alexandra Cunningham follows an intense, stranger-than-fiction tale of love gone wrong each season. While the first outing on Bravo from fall 2018 was a screen adaptation of the viral podcast charting the story of Debra Newell and her con artist husband John Meehan, Season 2, titled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, moves to USA Network to tell the story of Betty Broderick (Amanda Peet), who in 1991 was convicted of murdering her ex-husband Dan (Christian Slater) and his new wife Linda. Why you should watch it: Just like the podcast of its original source material, Dirty John’s first season is the kind of soapy crime drama best enjoyed with your feet up and a glass of wine. Elevating it from tabloid fodder, though, are the performances from Connie Britton as Debra, who was nominated for a Golden Globe, Eric Bana as John, and supporting turns from Juno Temple and Ozark Emmy winner Julia Garner. Season 2 premieres June 2 on USA Network.Where to watch: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, Netflix, VuduCommitment: Approx. 6.5 hours (for the first season)Queer Eye 93% (Netflix)What it is: The early aughts’ boundary-pushing hit reality series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy gets a makeover of its own with this charming, seven-time Emmy-winning reboot on Netflix. Why you should watch it: If any other series captured the world’s collective heart over the last two years like Queer Eye has, we haven’t heard of it. Yes, its main hook lies in the fashionable, fabulous, and heartwarming makeovers the Queer Eye guys give rural American men and women (plus, their half-season trip to Japan), but you’ll stick around for the playful banter and true, deep friendship between the main cast of industry experts. It all packs a surprisingly emotional punch, so stock up on tissues! Season 5 premieres June 5 on Netflix.Where to watch: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 28 hours (for the first four seasons, plus Queer Eye: We re in Japan!)The Chi (Showtime)What it is: You’ve never seen Chicago like this. Created by Master of None Emmy winner and Queen and Slim screenwriter Lena Waithe, this Showtime series portrays the city’s South Side neighborhood as a tapestry of want and need, violence and love, and altogether human when our central heroes (played by Jason Mitchell, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Jacob Latimore, and Alex R. Hibbert) are brought together in unexpected ways after one life- and community-altering event. Why you should watch it: The Chi is an unflinching and authentic coming-of-age drama boasting some of the best actors and writers — well-known and otherwise — working today. In a time when racial violence still devastates minority communities and permeates our headlines, it offers a timely look at some of the social issues being debated today while still being nuanced, character-driven entertainment. The series went on a hiatus after Mitchell was fired for misconduct allegations, but Season 3 will finally premiere June 21 on Showtime.Where to watch: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 20 hours (for the first two seasons)Doom Patrol 97% (HBO Max)What it is: From creator Jeremy Carver and starring Matt Bomer, April Bowlby, Timothy Dalton, Brendan Fraser, Diane Guerrero, and Joivan Wade, this acclaimed DC Comics series follows superpowered outcasts Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Crazy Jane after modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief) brings them together to save the world from one fantastical threat after another. Season 1 aired last year, streaming on DC Universe, but makes the jump to HBO Max as the platform’s inaugural comic book property. Why you should watch it: In the very best way, Carver and his writing room are dedicated to their source materials’ larger-than-life weirdness, violence, and heart and they have a cast that’s down to play along each step of the way. Season 2 premieres June 25 on HBO Max.Where to watch: Amazon, DC Universe, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 12.5 hours (for the first season)Search Party 96% (HBO Max)What it is: Part relationship drama, part coming-of-age comedy, part noir-tinged mystery thriller, Search Party is undefinable — but that’s what makes it so good. It’s the story of Dory (Alia Shawkat), Drew (John Reynolds), Elliot (John Early), and Portia (Meredith Hagner), who, on account of their own self-interest and general aimlessness, entangle themselves in the potentially sinister disappearance of their college classmate. Why you should watch it: Brooklyn-dwelling millennials have been beguiling subjects for many a film and TV auteur since Lena Dunham’s Girls, but never before have they been so exactingly (and excruciatingly) brought to life than in Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers, and Michael Showalter’s incisive satire-crime mystery cocktail. Season 3 premieres June 25 on HBO Max.Where to watch: Amazon, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 8 hours (for the first two seasons)The Twilight Zone 66% (CBS All Access)What it is: Did somebody say a reboot of creator Rod Sterling’s eerie and prescient anthological classic from 1959, now hosted and produced by modern master of horror Jordan Peele (an Oscar winner for Get Out and record-breaker for Us)? All we can say is: Sign us up.Why you should watch it: When it comes to horror series that episodically tackle various social and political matters through a sci-fi and technology-driven lens, Netflix’s Black Mirror has been the buzzy new kid on the block for five seasons strong. But there’s still nothing like the taste of a true original, and with Peele at the helm, this Twilight Zone is in more than capable hands. Season 2 of this beloved reboot premieres June 25 on CBS All Access.Where to watch: CBS All Access, FandangoNOW, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 7.5 hours (for the first season)Adventure Time 100% (HBO Max)What it is: And you thought we were done with the land of Ooo. After delivering an unforgettable season finale in 2018, creator Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time is back for this four-part special on HBO Max, beginning with “BMO.”Why you should watch it: This belovedly off-kilter animated series bursts at the seams with unabashed and untamed surrealist creativity. But at its core, it’s just the story of a 12-old-boy named Finn who goes on adventures with his magical dog named Jake. Binge all 10 seasons of the series in the lead-up to the new specials, the first of which follows our heroic duo’s prescient robot and friend, BMO. Adventure Time: Distant Lands premieres June 25 on HBO Max.Where to watch: Amazon, Google Play, Hulu, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 51.5 hours (for all 10 seasons)Thumbnail images by Netflix, Cartoon Network, DC Universe亚博足球比分(Photo by Netflix)After waiting almost two years for Mindhunter to return, Netflix dropped nine new episodes of the crime series on August 16, bringing viewers back into the bleak world of the FBI s Behavioral Science Unit. Series executive producer David Fincher directed three episodes of the new season that sees special agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) along with civilian consultant Dr. Wendy Carr (Anna Torv) continue their mission studying serial killers around the country with the goal of creating official protocols in identifying and profiling repeat murderers.Season 2 picks up where season 1 left off, with the gang continuing their killer research — and attempting to keep their personal lives from falling apart in the process. While it s clear they are better at one of those two things, it looks like the group gains some headway with the Bureau as their department profile rises within the FBI.Their main case revolves around the true-life Atlanta Child Murders, involving a serial killer who mainly targeted young black children in the 70s and 80s. As the team investigates an array of gruesome crimes, they visit new serial killers in hopes of gaining new insights into the minds of murderers. While the series is inspired by true events, season 2 introduces real-life figures including Charles Manson, the Son of Sam, the BTK Killer, Wayne Williams, and more.Find out the true story about each of those men in this rundown of the truth behind every killer portrayed in Mindhunter season 2.

This week s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news (the stories about what movies Hollywood is working on for you next), covering stories for titles like Bambi, Lethal Weapon 5, The Matrix 4, and more Transformers. This WEEK S TOP STORYTHE THING TO BE REMADE AGAIN(Photo by Universal courtesy Everett Collection)John Carpenter s science fiction horror movie The Thing remains one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed (Certified Fresh at 84%, Audience Score 92%), but explaining its cinematic genealogy gets tricky. The 1982 film was actually a remake of 1951 s The Thing from Another World (Fresh at 89%), which was itself adapted from the 1938 novella Who Goes There? We also have to fit in the 2011 movie also called The Thing (Rotten at 35%), which was actually a prequel to the 1982 film. And then, last year, a new book called Frozen Hell: The Book That Inspired The Thing was published, adding another 45 pages to the original novella to make it a proper novel-length story. So, now that we have a longer version of the story behind The Thing, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are teaming up to fast track a new adaptation. This new movie promises to be a direct adaptation of author John W. Campbell, Jr. s original story, but it s also going to be remaking the story of at least two of these previous movies. It s also worth noting that this whole thing originally started with a Kickstarter campaign, which you can read about right here.Other Top Headlines1. DISNEY TO GIVE BAMBI THE LION KING TREATMENT(Photo by ©Walt Disney courtesy Everett Collection)The world has gotten very used to seeing new remakes of classic Walt Disney animated films a couple times a year (Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King last year, and the upcoming Mulan on 3/27/2020), but it s far from a very recent phenomenon. Back in 2016, there were already enough such movies that Saturday Night Live was able to make a spoof trailer starring Dwayne Johnson as a gun-toting, cigar-chomping, live-action Bambi. We ve now gotten far enough from that parody that we can report, without irony, that Walt Disney Pictures is indeed developing a remake of the 1942 baby deer drama Bambi (Certified Fresh at 90%). The way these remakes are announced is changing, as the language live action is now dropped in favor of photo-realistic CGI, which acknowledges what most people realized, namely that a movie like last year s The Lion King was not live action. Screenwriters Geneva Robertson-Dworet (co-writer of Captain Marvel and Tomb Raider) and Lindsey Beer (co-writer of the upcoming Chaos Walking) are now working on a screenplay that will update the dialogue and narrative of the original 1942 classic.2. TWO NEW TRANSFORMERS REBOOTS IN DEVELOPMENT (AND ONE MIGHT BE BEAST WARS)The 2018 Transformers prequel Bumblebee (Certified Fresh at 92%) earned over 8 million worldwide, which is a lot of money, but it was perceived as a disappointment, because it was part of a franchise that has had two movies that earned over .1 billion (movies #3 and #4). Probably inspired by those prior successes, Paramount Pictures has announced that it is developing two separate projects to revamp the Transformers franchise. The screenwriters working on these new projects are James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, Murder Mystery) and Joby Harold (co-writer of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). Officially, Paramount hasn t said what either of these two movies is about, but rumors quickly spread online this week that one of them might be Beast Wars, which is basically about Transformers that turn into animals instead of cars and planes. You can read about other directions Transformers might go next in this piece over at Collider.3. PRIYANKA CHOPRA JONAS TO JOIN THE MATRIX 4(Photo by Ganesh Patil/©Aanna Films)Ever since Warner Bros. and the Wachowskis confirmed last summer that The Matrix 4 is officially a go, we ve received a steady drip of casting news, both old (Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss) and new (Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). The latest addition to the cyberpunk saga to be announced is Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the now more available star of ABC s Quantico, which ended its three-season run in 2018. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is also both a singer and a Bollywood star with over 60 films to her credit. Warner Bros. is currently remaining quiet on the nature of Chopra Jonas character (as they have been for all of the new cast members). The Matrix 4 is currently scheduled for release on May 21, 2021, up against John Wick Chapter 4, which is obviously another fourth franchise installment starring Keanu Reeves.4. PEE-WEE HERMAN S NEXT ADVENTURE MIGHT BE WITH THE SAFDIE BROTHERSThe way that Hollywood works leaves some projects waiting for years and years (or decades) to get produced, and many movie concepts just never happen at all. Comedian Paul Reubens most well-known character, Pee-Wee Herman, lay dormant for a long time, but starting in the 1990s, Reubens had a screenplay treatment in which Pee-Wee would emerge from a dark period in his life as a celebrity, mirroring what he himself went through. Hollywood, however, never bit on that premise, so instead his comeback came in 2016 with the Netflix movie, Pee-Wee s Big Holiday (Certified Fresh at 80%). Paul Reubens now hopes to finally get that dark Pee-Wee Herman movie produced, having recently talked to the Safdie Brothers (Uncut Gems, Good Time) about getting it made. (Stay tuned for any news about them actually signing on.)5. ANDY SAMBERG S PALM SPRINGS SETS SUNDANCE RECORD BY 69 CENTS (SORT OF) (Photo by ©Paramount courtesy Everett Collection)Every January, distributors both big and small head to the Sundance Film Festival in the hopes of snapping up one of the festival s most talked-about movies for amounts both frugal and ambitious. It is, however, those larger amounts that generally make the most news (especially since so many of those projects end up having disappointing box office results upon release). Until this week, the record was held by 2016 s The Birth of a Nation (Certified Fresh at 73%), which was acquired by Fox Searchlight for .5 million. With that amount very much in mind, Neon and Hulu broke the record this year by acquiring the Andy Samberg comedy Palm Springs for a total of ,500,00.69, which is exactly 69 cents more than the previous record. It made for a great headline, but this news comes with a big asterisk, because The Birth of a Nation was a deal for just theatrical, while this deal is for both theatrical and streaming (Hulu), so it s not exactly apples-to-apples.6. ELDERLY CAST OF LETHAL WEAPON GETTING BACK TOGETHER(Photo by (c)Warner Bros. courtesy Everett Collection)At 64 (Mel Gibson), 73 (Danny Glover), and 76 (Joe Pesci), the cast of the Lethal Weapon franchise truly are now very close to being  too old for this s t. On the other hand, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence just reunited earlier this month for Bad Boys for Life to pretty great box office numbers, so you can pretty much guess what the Lethal Weapon guys are doing. During a recent roundtable interview, producer Daniel Lin revealed that Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Joe Pesci, and director Richard Donner are currently all in talks to return for a fifth film. It s unclear if there is an actual screenplay for such a reunion, but there have been reports off and on over the 22 years since Lethal Weapon 4 (Rotten at 52%), so perhaps they re thinking of just dusting off one of those old screenplays and adding more arthritis and Viagra jokes. Did we mention they re old?7. KEVIN HART S NEXT ACTION COMEDY STRAIGHT MAN TO BE JASON STATHAM (Photo by Warner Bros.)After starring in a couple of movies with Ice Cube (Ride Along, Ride Along 2) and more than a couple with Dwayne Johnson (Central Intelligence, and two Jumanji movies), Kevin Hart has found the next action star with whom he can pull off his comedy high jinx. Hart and Jason Statham will co-star in the action comedy The Man from Toronto, about an assassin who goes by the titular codename who is mixed up with a regular guy, leading to the obvious action movie duck-out-of-water shenanigans. The Man from Toronto will be directed by Patrick Hughes, who previously worked with Statham on The Expendables 3 (Rotten at 32%).8. HOLLYWOOD S REBOOTING OF THE 1990S CONTINUES WITH ANACONDA(Photo by (c)Columbia courtesy Everett Collection)One of the most complained-about Hollywood trends is the perceived new obsession with reboots and remakes, but it s worth remembering that this is far from a recent phenomenon, like at all. Classic Hollywood is full of remakes, such as 1931 s Frankenstein and 1939 s The Wizard of Oz, both of which were originally produced as silent movies decades earlier. Generally speaking, Hollywood tends to remake films that are anywhere from 20 to 40 years old. Average those numbers and you get 30 years, which means we re primed for movies of the 1990s to be updated for contemporary audiences. The latest example this week is the 1997 giant snake movie Anaconda (Rotten at 40%), which was an early movie for Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, and Jennifer Lopez. Columbia Pictures is now working on a Anaconda reboot/remake which will be written by screenwriter Evan Daugherty, whose previous films include 2014 s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Rotten at 22%) and Snow White and the Huntsman (Rotten at 49%).9. ADAM SANDLER SIGNS NEW NETFLIX CONTRACT(Photo by (c)Columbia courtesy Everett Collection)According to Netflix, since Adam Sandler first started making movies for them in 2015 with The Ridiculous 6 (Rotten at 0%), subscribers have collectively watched over two billion hours of his movies on the streaming service. Exactly how Netflix s streaming numbers translate into their production decisions has always been somewhat nebulous, but whatever the math, Netflix agreed this week to a new contract with Sandler for another four movies. These four movies will include an animated film that Sandler will write, produce, and star in, but the title and details of that movie haven t been revealed just yet.Like this? It has been just over a year since Jordan Peele made history winning the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for his genre-bending horror film Get Out. He also made history with his nominations: Peele was the first African American to be nominated for Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay for a debut film. This awards season he returns to the Oscars stage as one of the producers of Spike Lee s critically acclaimed BlacKkKlansman, placing a bookend on a historic year for Black filmmakers. Kicked off by Black Panther’s box office dominance and culminating with Into the Spider-Verse s Miles Morales near-perfect debut, 2018 was a watershed moment for diverse filmmakers and stories. Though vastly different in tone, technique, and genre, each Black-led film added to the history and legacy of Black cinema, and expanded upon it. In honor of Black History Month, we re taking moment to celebrate some of the most historic moments from the last 12 months for Black filmmakers and performers. These aren t all of them, of course: so please add your favorites in the comments.Spike Finally gets his due(Photo by David Lee /© Focus Features /Courtesy Everett Collection)Spike Lee presented Jordan Peele with the win for Best Director at last year s Independent Spirit Awards. When the Get Out writer-director got to the stage he made a point to highlight the synergy of that moment saying, Getting this award from Spike is crazy, let s make no mistake I would not be standing here if we re not for this man. In turn, Lee might not have gained his first directorial Oscar nomination if it were not for Peele passing on the opportunity to helm BlacKkKlansman, signing on as a producer, and hiring Lee to direct. The movie was a big return to form for Lee: It earned the Grand Prix prize at the Cannes Film Festival, has nabbed six Oscar nominations, and is his best-reviewed film in over a decade. The 70s-set dramedy – and scathing indictment on political apathy – earned Lee his first DGA nomination, too, and shows he is still one of the premier cinematic voices when it comes to pointed socio-cinematic commentary.Five Join the 0 million club(Photo by Barry Wetcher /© MGM /Courtesy Everett Collection)African American filmmakers also shined at the 2018 box office. In February, Ryan Coogler s Black Panther racked up over 0 million at the domestic box office, and finished the year as the highest-earning film of 2018. Other African American filmmakers to earn over 0 million at the box office in 2018 included Antoine Fuqua (Equalizer 2), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II), and Ava DuVernay (A Wrinkle in Time). The African American filmmakers movies earned a combined .2 billion at the domestic box office. Hannah Beachler s Oscars First(Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)In the 90-plus years of the Academy Awards there had never been a black production designer nominated for an Oscar – then Hannah Beachler made history. Her Afro-futurist set design for Black Panther helped immerse the audience in the world of Wakanda; from the nation s planes to the Throne Room to Shuri s laboratory, the detailing of every prop and backdrop was unlike anything we had seen on the big screen. (Music fans may know Beachler for her Emmy-nominated work on Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade. Does Beyoncé trump the Oscars? If Beachler wins we just might find out.) Ava DuVernay Makes History, Signs Mega DealsWe previously mentioned that DuVernay was one of the five African American directors whose films made more than 0 million at the domestic box office in 2018, but the Selma director distinguishes herself further as the first ever African American female director to do so with A Wrinkle In Time. It was one of several big achievements for DuVernay in 2018: She was also the first Black female director to serve on the Jury at the Cannes film Festival (alongside Denis Villeneuve, Cate Blanchett, and Kristen Stewart); she inked a 0 million multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Television; and wrapped production on her Central Park Five miniseries for Netflix. Did we mention she is directing New Gods for DC? As if that wasn t enough, the publicist-turned-director continuously works to ensure the next crop of female filmmakers has access to opportunities. DuVernay s OWN series, Queen Sugar, again led all scripted television programs in the hiring of female filmmakers, particularly women of color.Sterling K. Brown s Honors Pile Up (Photo by Ron Batzdorff / ©NBC / courtesy Everett Collection)Sterling K. Brown s entire 2018 – and early 2019 – has been one for the record books. In January of last year, the This is Us Star became the first African American to win the SAG Award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series. He also became the first black man to win a Golden Globe for acting in a TV drama. Just this past week he became only the second actor to win Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture (for Black Panther) and a TV program (for The Is Us) at the same SAG Awards ceremony, and the first-ever African American to do so.
Or, it could be something we have not considered until now: Wanda may still under the influence of Hydra.S.W.O.R.D. Director Hayward (Josh Stamberg) was pretty quick to consider her an enemy combatant and the accent slip could be an indication of a personality buried in Wanda s psyche which is still loyal to Hydra; although, in both the MCU and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. realities, the organization is complete defunct. Even the commercials would seem to agree with this, although, as this week s product prominently featured Lagos, it would also seem the ads are accounting for the worst events of Wanda s life.As it happens, Monica s (Teyonah Parris) testimony about the energy around Westview seems to confirm our suspicious about what is really going on. As she put it, the barrier felt like grief and considering the way she stormed the facility housing Vision s corpse, we re inclined to belief her inability to grieve anything is the true source of the Hex.The Vision Thing and What It (Might) Mean
This week s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news (the stories about what movies Hollywood is working on for you next), covering titles like Black Adam, The Little Mermaid, Rin Tin Tin, and Uncharted. This WEEK S TOP STORYNICOLAS CAGE TO PLAY NICOLAS CAGE IN MOVIE ABOUT NICOLAS CAGE (Photo by NurPhoto/Getty Images)Just a couple of weeks ago, Ocbtober 29 marked the 20th anniversary of the release of Being John Malkovich (Certified Fresh at 93%), a movie that was meta before that word was even in common parlance. Given how well it was received, it s a little surprising more films like it (Jean-Claude Van Damme s JCVD, for example) haven t been made, but we may finally get the mother of all meta films in the near future. After a surprisingly active auction, Lionsgate has won the rights to a meta drama called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, about a famous Hollywood actor named Nicolas Cage. Lionsgate is now in talks with a famous Hollywood actor named Nicolas Cage to take on the role, who is described as being the star of Face/Off, Con Air, Mandy, Color Out of Space, and the upcoming Lionsgate meta drama The Unberable Weight of Massive Talent. Specifically, Cage will play a version of himself who is trying to get a role in Quentin Tarantino s next film and who also occasionally talks to an egotistical 1990s version of himself who rides him for making too many crappy movies and for not being a star anymore. It is not yet known if Quentin Tarantino will cast Nicolas Cage in his next movie. Nicolas Cage will also reprise his caveman role in The Croods 2 (12/23/2020), and might return as the voice of Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Verse 2 (4/8/2022).Other Top Headlines1. BOOGIE NIGHTS DIRECTOR RETURNING TO 1970s SAN FERNANDO VALLEY (Photo by Laurie Sparham /© Focus Features)Back in 1997, New Line Cinema released Boogie Nights (Certified Fresh at 93%), the second film from writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, who went on to work on such movies as Magnolia (Certified Fresh at 83%), Punch-Drunk Love (Certified Fresh at 80%), There Will Be Blood (Certified Fresh at 91%), and last year s Phantom Thread (Certified Fresh at 91%). Put another way, P.T. Anderson s films have only ever scored a Tomatometer below 83% once (73% for Inherent Vice). For his next film, Anderson appears to be returning to his roots with a project that bears similiarities to both Boogie Nights and Magnolia. Described as an ensemble piece, the untitled project will reportedly be set in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s and focus on a high school student who is also a successful child actor. Filming is expected to start in February, so we should start hearing casting announcements soon.2. MOON KNIGHT, MS. MARVEL, AND SHE-HULK ALL HEADING TO MARVEL MOVIES AFTER DISNEY+(Photo by Disney XD/Getty Images)The new Disney+ app launched this week, but we won t see the first Marvel Studios series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, until late next year. Like that series, the first batch of Marvel shows on Disney+ are mostly going to feature MCU characters who first appeared in the movies (WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye), but the next batch announced after those shows are for three characters that will make their debuts on Disney+: Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk. This week, Kevin Feige confirmed that all three of those characters will go on to appear in Marvel Studios movies after first making their debuts in their Disney+ shows. Feige didn t specify which movies they ll appear in, but Ms. Marvel seems likely to co-star in the inevitable Captain Marvel sequel. As for where the other two might show up, She-Hulk was a long-time member of the Fantastic Four in the comics (as well as the female-centric A-Force), and Moon Knight has been a member of both West Coast Avengers and Secret Avengers (if either of those teams are likely to ever get their own movies). You can read more about the Disney+ shows for Moon Knight here and She-Hulk here.3. DWAYNE JOHNSON S SHAZAM SPINOFF BLACK ADAM SCHEDULED FOR 2021 (Photo by Ron Phillips/©Warner Bros. Pictures)Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is such a looming presence on next month s schedule that pretty much no other major franchise entry is daring to take it on (the closest we ll get is Jumani: The Next Level). Likewise, Disney has already claimed December of 2022 for their next mystery Star Wars movie, but that leaves December in both 2020 and 2021 relatively wide open. Disney s own entry for December, 2021 is James Cameron s Avatar 2 (12/17/2021), but that film s juggernaut potential is definitely not a sure thing. Warner Bros. ended up raking in over .14 billion from their December 2018 release Aquaman, so they ve scheduled another DC Comics movie for December, 2021. That movie is Black Adam, the long-in-development anti-hero project starring Dwayne Johnson, who has been in talks to play the character since 2007. Black Adam is now scheduled for December 22, 2021, up against Sherlock Holmes 3, the Wicked movie, and an untitled Disney movie (possibly one of their live-action remakes). The news also came along with our first Black Adam poster, which is basically costume concept art. Paramount Pictures also made a big announcement for December, 2021 this week, as they have come aboard Babylon, the next film from director Damien Chazelle (La La Land, Whiplash), a 1920s-set Hollywood thriller starring Brad Pitt and Emma Stone. Paramount is scheduling Babylon for an awards season-friendly platform release starting on Christmas Day, 2021 before opening wide two weeks later on January 7, 2022.4. RELATIVE UNKNOWN LANDS PRINCE ERIC ROLE IN THE LITTLE MERMAID REMAKE (Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)Walt Disney Pictures first choice to play Prince Eric in their upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid was pop star Harry Styles of One Direction. Unfortunately, Harry Styles ultimately turned down the role, and it s been two months now since Disney had to find a new Eric. Surprisingly, the studio has decided to go with a relatively unknown young actor named Jonah Hauer-King, whose biggest movie to date was this year s doggie sequel A Dog s Way Home. With the last of the remake s major roles finally cast, director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns) is expected to start filming in early 2020, possibly aiming for a release date in late 2021 or sometime in 2022. Jonah Hauer-King s co-stars in The Little Mermaid will include Awkwafina (Scuttle), Javier Bardem (King Triton), Daveed Diggs (Sebastian), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), and Halle Bailey as Ariel, The Little Mermaid herself.

solved.Hoffa’s connections to organized crime began in the 1930s when he was a union activist in New York, and it was here that the young Hoffa first gained an audience with mafia dons Russell Bufalino and Angelo Bruno. After years of moving up in the Teamsters Union, all while making shady backdoor deals with the East Coast mafia, Hoffa became president of the Teamsters from 1957 until 1971 and turned it into one of the most powerful in the world. But, on July 30, 1975, just four years after stepping down as Teamsters president, Hoffa vanished without a trace. The unsolved disappearance has led to countless theories of what happened, including ones that posit Hoffa was either buried underneath Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands, compacted in a car and sold as scrap metal and shipped to Japan, or buried under a suburban Detroit driveway. The one commonality is that they all agree the mafia had him taken out.The teaser trailer released today seems to have higher ambitions than just exploring Hoffa s rise, fall, and presumed death, however. With frequent allusions to John F. Kennedy and the role of big business and the government, it seems like The Irishman will tackle the connections between a tangled web of organized crime, crooked unions, and American politics in the 20th century. The Cast and Crew(Photo by Universal courtesy Everett Collection)We first got a glimpse of the type of talent in this movie in the initial teaser (even though it was only their names), but now we finally get to see some of the greatest actors in film history and one of the most beloved and revered directors of all time doing their thing. We all know the work Scorsese, De Niro, Keitel, and Pesci have done together, including Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and Casino, but adding Pacino to that crew is the pistachios on the cannoli. In the upcoming film, Pacino plays Union leader Hoffa and De Niro plays his friend and alleged killer Sheeran, while Keitel and Pesci play bosses of rival East Coast crime families. But the talent doesn’t stop there, as The Irishman’s roster is both top heavy and deep. In addition to these heavy hitters, the film will also feature Oscar winner Anna Paquin, two-time Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale, two-time Emmy nominee Jesse Plemons, and Emmy-winner Ray Romano. In case you weren’t keeping count, that cast features actors who have been nominated for a combined 19 Oscars, 35 Golden Globes, and 27 Emmys, and have collectively taken home five Oscars, five Golden Globes, and seven Emmys. And that’s just in front of the camera.Between Scorsese, screenwriter Steven Zaillian, editor Thelma Shoonmaker, and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, the talent behind the camera has combined for 25 Academy Award noms and four wins. So, with all that talent and excitement, how has it taken so long for this film to get made? The Journey(Photo by Andrew Cooper/Paramount courtesy Everett Collection)This film has been a passion project for director Martin Scorsese for years, with news coming about the potential film as far back as 2008. (That same article refers to Scorsese s adaptation of Shutter Island as an upcoming release, just to give a sense of how long ago 2008 was.)Since then, the film has floundered in development hell, and Scorsese moved on to directing other long-gestating passion projects like Hugo, The Wolf of Wall Street, and 2016’s Silence. But Scorsese kept coming back to the story of the most famous mob hit in history, and finally, in 2017, Paramount and Fábrica de Cine came together to co-finance the film and aim for a 2019 release. So how did it end up on Netflix, you ask?The BudgetYes, like all things, it comes down to cold, hard cash.Initially targeted for a 0 million budget, the movie s cost soon ballooned to nearly 0,000,000 after the production opted to use a CGI de-aging technique to make De Niro, Pacino, and co. appear younger while playing the younger versions of their characters.Because of this price tag (and perhaps still feeling the burn left by Silence, which cost upwards of million and took in less than million at the box office), Fábrica de Cine and Paramount decided to back out of the project less than a year after agreeing to fund it.Fábrica de Cine producer Gaston Pavlovich explained this difficult decision, saying We quickly realized that Marty and De Niro really thought that the aging process was going to be a very important aspect of this film. The traditional model was not going to work with this new vision of the project [we could not] risk that amount [of money] when all our data was telling us that it was not going to come back. Thankfully, Netflix stepped in, and the importance is not lost on Scorsese, who recently said, “People such as Netflix are taking risks. The Irishman is a risky film. No one else wanted to fund the pic for five to seven years. And of course we’re all getting older. Netflix took the risk.”(Photo by Netflix)Even so, the CGI de-aging comes with both budgetary and cinematic concerns. Previously used on Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button, Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy, and Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War, the de-aging technology has advanced in recent years to appear more natural, but still remains costly. So costly, in fact, that until Samuel L. Jackson (and, perhaps less noticeably, Clark Gregg) was made to look 25 years younger in the recent Captain Marvel, it had only been used sparingly.Editor Thelma Schoonmaker called it a “risk,” saying, “We’re youthifying the actors in the first half of the movie. And then the second half of the movie they play their own age. So that’s a big risk. We’re having that done by Industrial Light and Magic Island, ILM. That’s a big risk.”While it might be cool to see young Pacino, young De Niro, young Pesci, and young Keitel in the same scene, it could also venture too close to the uncanny valley and take the viewers out of the film.Schoonmaker has also expressed some trepidation over how the public is going to view seeing a 30-year-old Pacino, De Niro, et al. in a 2019 movie: “I haven’t gotten a whole scene where they’re young, and what I’m going to have to see, and what Marty’s going to have to see, is ‘How is it affecting the rest of the movie, when you see them young?’” In that same interview, the eminent editor said that, of the few people they’ve screened the movie for, “nobody minds. Nobody minds watching them play young, because they’re gripped.”While we don t see too much of the de-aged film legends in the teaser trailer, what we do see looks pretty good. On first impressions, the one shot of a young De Niro talking on the phone might be a little distracting, but this is just the first glimpse, so that s a given. With what is sure to be stellar directing from Scorsese and brilliant acting from some silver screen legends, audiences likely won t even notice that there s a 40-something Robert De Niro in a 2019 movie. The Release(Photo by Paramount Pictures)As one of Netflix s main prestige productions for 2019, it was always expected that The Irishman would be released at the heart of awards season, and now we have confirmation. It was recently announced that The Irishman will celebrate its world premiere as the Opening Night film for the 2019 New York Film Festival on September 27. Most likely, the film will be available for the general public a few weeks later in theaters and on your couch.Previously, Scorsese has expressed his disdain for movie-watching on small screens, saying that when he was growing up, films “had to be shown in certain ways — people went to a movie, it wasn’t something you could choose or pick up, or walk out of the room. You actually made a commitment. It was a different experience.” He continued, “the ideal would be to see cinema in its proper context… It’s a problem of pure concentration.”Robert de Niro agrees, saying at a recent film festival, Movies have to be shown on a big screen.  It appears Netflix also shares this sentiment, as the teaser trailer announces that the film will be shown in select theaters. Unfortunately, we still don’t really know when exactly The Irishman will be released. But we now know that it will have a splashy premiere at a prestigious film festival at the end of September, and will be shown in theaters and on the streaming service sometime this Fall. The Irishman  is currently set to release in select theaters an on Netflix during the Fall of 2019.

Ghcxuf (Photo by GABRIEL BOUYS/AFP/Getty Images)As we near the end of a bizarre, pandemic-shaped awards season, this year s Academy Awards ceremony makes no promises — except that masks will be required attire. The program, taking place on Sunday (two months delayed from its original date), is produced by Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher, and Jesse Collins, who sent a letter in March telling nominees that Zoom appearances will not be allowed, according to People. The in-person event will take place at both Union Station in downtown Los Angeles and the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood – as well as at satellite locations across the planet – and nominees who choose to attend are encouraged to wear not-casual attire.Recommended: Download our printable 2021 Oscars BallotRecommended: The Biggest Snubs, Surprises, and Milestones of the 2021 Oscar NominationsRecommended: Where to Watch the 2021 Oscar NomineesRecommended: The 2021 Best Picture Nominees Ranked by Tomatometer We re aiming for a fusion of Inspirational and Aspirational, which in actual words means formal is totally cool if you want to go there, but casual is really not, the letter said. With a slimmed-down attendee list of only presenters, those nominated, and their guest and the event being treated as an active movie set in terms of COVID protocol, producers must have something truly unusual planned, and we re eager to see how it stands up to past events. While we wait to see what s in store on the 2021 red carpet and during the event spectacle, we ve had a look at the Oscars events of the past decade and ranked them below from best to worst. 亚博足球比分 Following the success of Creed, the next sequel in the long-running Rocky franchise is exceeding a lot of critics’ low expectations. While the ultimate decision of its merits is mostly mixed as far as whether it’s a good or bad movie, Creed II is a satisfying follow-up to not just the previous installment, according to the initial reviews, but also 1985’s Rocky IV, mainly thanks to the cast and character development, as well as the comfort of what fans want from this series. Here’s what the first wave of critics are saying about Creed II:Is it a worthy successor to Creed?Taken on its own terms, the movie is a rousing and effective sequel. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyGiven the never-ending production line of lazy inferior sequels, it’s such a joy to encounter one that feels necessary. Benjamin Lee, Guardian[It] impressively re-creates the chief source of that movie’s delight: a group of characters who…were a warm, easygoing pleasure to spend time with. Justin Chang, Los Angeles TimesIt s not quite as smart as Creed, or quite as beautiful, and it doesn t have as much depth or nuance or texture. But it s got enough to deliver something satisfying and sweet. Angie Han, MashableWhat about Rocky IV?Creed II is a direct spiritual sequel to Rocky IV. And, dammit, they pulled it off.  Mike Ryan, UproxxThankfully, Ivan and Viktor are way more fleshed out than any of the Russians were in Rocky IV.  Matt Singer, ScreenCrushRefreshingly, the Dragos are not portrayed as cartoon villains…it’s almost more difficult to sympathize with Adonis Creed himself.  Don Kaye, Den of GeekThe adversaries remain such a huge part of the story that one wonders if they’re being set up for a spinoff.  Karen Han, Polygon(Photo by Barry Wetcher/MGM)But is it simply more of the same? The movie feels less interested in creatively disrupting Rocky lore than repeating it. Gary Thompson, Philadelphia InquirerThis is familiar stuff, but Creed II works overtime to create the tangible suspense that the worst possible outcome might actually come to pass. Eric Kohn, IndieWireAgreeably paint-by-numbers…Sometimes the familiarity that comes with a sequel — especially with good actors — can be a blessing in short-handing a dramatic tone. Robert Abele, The WrapIt’s comforting to remember that sameness is one of the reasons we go to a boxing picture in the first place. Justin Chang, Los Angeles TimesHow are the fights?Creed II is visceral and grueling in the ring.  Rodrigo Perez, The PlaylistWhile the fights remain undeniably involving, there’s a dazzle missing and nothing wows with quite the same impact. Benjamin Lee, GuardianThe fights between Drago and Donnie are solid, but nothing like the exceptional, unforgettable ones in the last movie. Matt Singer, ScreenCrushThe fights fall curiously flat. There’s no coherent sense of movement. Karen Han, PolygonIs Ryan Coogler sorely missed as director, then? While [Steven] Caple Jr. has a good sense of storytelling and filmmaking style…there’s nothing on the level of, say, the original’s single-shot fight scene. David Fear, Rolling StoneCaple took on an even riskier assignment by doing the sequel. Thankfully he succeeded and did it by focusing on the characters and not the legend of the IP. Jason Guerrasio, Business InsiderCaple maintains [the previous] film’s grounded approach, but he uses more traditional signifiers of grit…and less of Coogler’s thrilling showmanship. Jesse Hassenger, AV Club(Photo by Barry Wetcher/MGM )What are Stallone s Oscar chances this time?Oscar-nominated for his somewhat revelatory performance last time, Stallone is equally impressive here. Benjamin Lee, GuardianStallone is in fine form here but, even more than he did in the first Creed, cedes the spotlight to his costar. Justin Chang, Los Angeles TimesStallone, robbed of a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, has turned his iconic character into a grizzled Yoda.  Mara Reinstein, US WeeklyHow is Michael B. Jordan?[He] delivers a performance that shows why he s a movie star. His charisma matched with his talent is a total package that any franchise dreams of. Jason Guerrasio, Business InsiderJordan holds the screen with his intensity and vulnerability — a winning one-two combination.  Rafer Guzman, Newsday[Not] Jordan’s finest two hours…these addled states seem to make not only his character but the actor himself clam up and seem uncommunicative and confused.  Todd McCarthy, Hollywood Reporter(Photo by Barry Wetcher/MGM)What about Tessa Thompson?[She’s] granite-solid as always.  David Fear, Rolling StoneTessa Thompson proves that she’s not here to just play supportive eye-candy. Rodrigo Perez, The PlaylistAs a performer, Thompson is just so magnetic; it’s frustrating that she doesn’t get a bit more to do. Benjamin Lee, GuardianSadly, Tessa Thompson s Bianca, such a vital presence in the first film, has lost most of her spunky charm. Todd McCarthy, Hollywood ReporterIs their chemistry still strong?Jordan and Thompson remain a potent combination of strength and vulnerability. Jesse Hassenger, AV ClubThere’s a genuine, palpable connection between the two, strong enough for the film to revolve entirely around their romance. Benjamin Lee, GuardianThompson and Jordan share an effortless, persuasively prickly chemistry. Justin Chang, Los Angeles TimesDespite Jordan’s and Thompson’s best efforts, the film sags when it’s out of the ring. Karen Han, PolygonAre there any major problems?Creed II offers zero surprises, give or take an amazing cameo. Mara Reinstein, US WeeklyIt never quite comes up with a new character or situation that attains an iconic status all its own. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyThe biggest issue is that the movie’s narrative seems perfunctory and Adonis Creed’s motivations fuzzy. Don Kaye, Den of GeekAt the core of Creed II’s problems is that its premise diminishes its hero. Sam Adams, SlateCreed II opens everywhere on November 21. Read all the reviews for it here.
