Ironheart does not yet have a Disney+ release date, but given how many shows are already filming before Ironheart, it probably won t be until 2023 or so. As it turns out, however, we won t have to wait that long to see the character make her debut, as Thorne will first portray Ironheart in next summer s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (7/8/2022). It s unclear how Ironheart will tie into Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, except one possibility is that in the comics, some young engineers have gone to Wakanda to continue their studies, which seems like a logical way to introduce Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, a 15-year-old M.I.T. student and engineering genius.Other Top Headlines1. ANTHONY MACKIE HAS OFFICIALLY SIGNED FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 (Photo by Marvel Studios)Sometimes, the big news of the week isn t particularly news to anyone paying attention. For example, the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended with Anthony Mackie s Falcon character officially taking on the role of Captain America, after a fair number of twists and turns along the way. So it was immediately obvious that Marvel and Disney planned on casting Mackie as the new Captain America in future projects, including Captain America 4, which the series showrunner was confirmed to be writing in April. Even so, Mackie wasn t officially signed to star in the hypothetical Captain America 4 until this week, but the deal is now signed. We still don t know when Captain America 4 might be released (except it likely will not be before 2024, because both 2022 and 2023 are already pretty well scheduled), or what it might specifically be about.2. SCARLETT JOHANSSON LEADS EPIC A-LIST ADDITIONS TO WES ANDERSON S NEXT FILM(Photo by Amy Sussman/Getty Images)Wes Anderson is well-known for his star-studded ensemble comedies, such as this year s The French Dispatch, and his next film, which is currently filming in Spain, seems like more of the same. Just last week, Margot Robbie signed on for Anderson s new project, and Jason Schwartzman and Rupert Friend joined soon after. This week gave us two similar casting announcements, starting with Scarlett Johansson, who was then followed by Bryan Cranston, Hope Davis, Liev Schreiber, and Jeffrey Wright. Other previously announced stars include Adrien Brody, Tom Hanks, and Tilda Swinton. One interesting thing about Johansson signing on is that Wes Anderson s films are usually distributed by Searchlight Pictures, which, as of 2019, is a subsidiary of Walt Disney Pictures, with whom Johansson is currently in the midst of a lawsuit over Black Widow profit participation.3. DENIS VILLENEUVE CONFIRMS ZENDAYA WILL BE PROTAGONIST IN DUNE SEQUEL (Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures)When David Lynch directed the first film adaptation of Dune (Rotten at 50%) in 1984, there were edits that were over three hours long, and the director s cut of the 2000 TV mini-series was almost five hours long. The reason is that Frank Herbert s original novel (and its sequels) is particularly dense, with dozens of characters and any number of related subplots. Director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) apparently knew this would be an issue all along, because the Dune movie we re getting this year only adapts half the novel. Villeneuve confirmed this week that he is currently writing the sequel (if Warner Bros. decides to greenlight it), and that the running time will be 155 minutes. Villeneuve also clarified that the protagonist role in the Dune sequel will shift from Timothée Chalamet s Paul Atreides to Zendaya s Fremen character Chani. Dune is currently scheduled for release on October 9, 2021, pushed back from its original December, 2020 release because of the COVID-19 pandemic.4. EMMA STONE IS INDEED SIGNING ON FOR DISNEY s CRUELLA SEQUEL (Photo by Laurie Sparham/©Disney+)Following the news of Scarlett Johansson s lawsuit against Disney over her Black Widow compensation, there was some speculation that other recent Disney stars like Emma Stone (Cruella, Certified Fresh at 75%) might follow suit. That is now extremely unlikely to happen, as Stone has officially closed a deal with Disney to star in a Cruella sequel. Although many details of the deal haven t been disclosed (which isn t unusual at all), Stone is expected to be earning a sum in the low eight figures, which is more than the million she earned for Cruella. It s also unclear how profit participation (a key dispute in the Black Widow lawsuit) and streaming figure into Stone s new deal. The Cruella sequel will be directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Tony McNamara, both of whom also worked on the first Cruella.5. RYAN REYNOLDS SAYS DISNEY ALREADY WANTS A FREE GUY SEQUEL (Photo by ©20th Century Studios)Whether blamed on the Delta variant or on streaming options, the movies of the summer of 2021 have regularly opened to disappointing box office. One of the exceptions to this trend was last week s Free Guy (Certified Fresh at 82%), which exceeded predictions of a - million domestic opening with a haul in the million range. Ryan Reynolds took to his Twitter account on Saturday, the day after Free Guy opened, to post that Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo!! #irony. It s worth mentioning that Free Guy actually didn t get its start as a Disney movie, as it was one of the final productions of the former 21st Century Fox before Disney acquired Fox in 2019 (which is why Free Guy isn t on Disney+ yet).6. JOHN M. CHU IS PLANNING THE GREAT CHINESE ART HEIST (Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu, whose latest film was the big-screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda s Broadway musical In the Heights (Certified Fresh at 95%), has a very busy slate of upcoming projects in development, including the two planned Crazy Rich Asians sequels, the Wicked movie, and Disney s live action Lilo Stitch remake. Chu added another project to his schedule this week, as he is attached to direct an adaptation of the 2018 GQ article The Great Chinese Art Heist (which you can read right here), about how great works of Chinese art kept getting stolen from museums around the world. Silicon Valley co-star Jimmy O. Yang will co-write and co-produce along with his Crab Club production company partners.7. BIOPIC OF STAR TREK CREATOR GENE RODDENBERRY IN THE WORKS (Photo by ©Paramount courtesy Everett Collection)Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, and director Aaron Sorkin recently wrapped production on the Amazon Studios biopic Being the Ricardos, about the lives of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, and one has to imagine that the film will address their contribution to science fiction as the co-producers of the original Star Trek. If that whets audiences appetites for more back story about the creation of the seminal television series, then the newly announced Gene Roddenberry biopic should go a long way to filling in those details. The film was announced on August 19, 2021, which would have been Gene Roddenberry s 100th birthday. The as-yet-untitled biopic already has a screenplay by Adam Mazer, who wrote the Jack Kevorkian movie You Don t Know Jack (Certified Fresh at 83%) and co-wrote the espionage drama Breach (Certified Fresh at 84%).8. ANIME HIT MY HERO ACADEMIA GETTING LIVE-ACTION HOLLYWOOD REMAKE (Photo by ©FUNimation)My Hero Academia, a Japanese superhero franchise set in a reality where most people have superpowers, got its start as a manga series in 2014 that was then adapted as an anime series starting in 2016  in the US, you can catch it on Adult Swim. Legendary Entertainment, which is the same company that gave us both Pacific Rim and the recent Godzilla franchise, is now developing an English-language live-action My Hero Academia feature film, and the directing job is going to Japan s Shinsuke Sato, who also adapted the manga-based movies Bleach (Fresh at 71%) and Inuyashiki (Fresh at 100%). My Hero Academia will also be Shinsuke Sato s first English-language feature film.9. THE FAST AND FURIOUS FAMILY WILL RETURN FOR #10 IN 2023 (Photo by Universal Pictures)Not counting any future spinoffs that might still happen someday, the main Fast and Furious franchise is set to have just two more movies, and now we have an idea about when the penultimate movie will come out. Fast and Furious 10 will start filming in January, 2022 for a release on April 7, 2023. There is no release date for the final film, Fast and Furious 11, yet, but it will be filmed back-to-back with F10, so a release date in 2023 is probably most likely. Franchise mainstays like Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, and Michelle Rodriguez are all expected to return for the last two films, but it s not yet known if more recent additions like John Cena and Charlize Theron will also return. Other movies currently scheduled for around the same time include Dungeons Dragons (3/3/2023) (which recently wrapped filming), the prequel Wonka (3/17/2023) starring Timothée Chalamet, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (5/5/2023).On an Apple device? And no wonder: German-born Zimmer created the memorable scores for movies like Gladiator, The Dark Knight, and – Bwoaaaah! – Inception. Perhaps most famously, he composed the music for Disney s The Lion King, which was the first animated feature he had worked on (he would go on to compose scores for The Prince of Egypt, Madagascar, and more). Working closely with Lebo M., the South African artist whose voice many will know from the The Lion King s iconic opening chant, Zimmer created music for the Disney classic that terrified us as wildebeest stampeded through a canyon and moved us as a young lion stared at his own reflection and discovered a king staring back at him. It also nabbed him his first, and so far only, Academy Award. Zimmer recently returned to the story of Simba, Mufasa, Nala, and the rest of the Pride Lands characters for Jon Favreau s new take on The Lion King. Here Zimmer reveals what drew him back to the story, why he hesitated at first, and what s changed in the 25 years since the animated film s release.Joel Meares for Rotten Tomatoes: Someone I saw this movie with turned to me at the beginning and said, If I don t cry during the stampede, it will mean Hans hasn t done his job.” When I saw her at the end, she was bawling. So, I wanted to know how did you approach that particular scene the second time around?Hans Zimmer: Cautiously. If you think that was a dangerous comment, my oldest daughter who I d written the original movie s [music] for in the first place 25 years ago, she was still saying to me, Dad, you better not make a mess of this one. All the themes that I wrote all those years ago – I didn t know how to do animation [at the time] – so all the themes are slightly too epic and slightly too big, and they needed that little bit more space and that little bit more breath to really resonate. I mean, especially the stampede and its aftermath, I can t even put into words, you know, the benefit from having more space. More breathing room. More chance to battle. More chance to focus on the protagonist. Did you yourself have any personal hesitation about coming back to a project that you haven t worked on for a very long time and that was so beloved – and was kind of perfect already?Zimmer: Well, “kind of perfect,” I never think about things like that. But “loved,” yes. I had a very short conversation with Jon [Favreau], which basically went him saying, Come down, let me show you something. And that was 100 percent committing. I went down. He put me in a black room, showed me [footage of the film’s opening]. It completely and utterly surprised me and moved me, even though I sort of knew what to expect. And we look at it differently than we looked at it 25 years ago. I mean, we truly do. I ve spent now quite a bit of time working with Sir David Attenborough. So partly, I was looking at it from the sense of where s the world heading? It felt like I was on a slightly different mission. It was, even if the story is the same, the world has changed, so the meaning of the story has changed.Rotten Tomatoes: In terms of what was practically involved with producing the score, how did you approach it differently from the first time? Zimmer: In the last 30 years… Usually, I never leave a dark windowless room, but eventually I did, and eventually I got onto a stage, and eventually I – despite stage fright – I started playing things live. And I did Lion King at the Coachella festival, and performing it, and watching the reaction of an audience and performing it, it was like these amazing musicians that I now have access to, made me realize that this isn t a normal film score. We can do this as a performance. In a normal film score, the orchestra or the players never know why they are playing the notes, because they don t know the story. Everybody knew the story [this time]. So I managed to get a commitment that was just extraordinary, and the performance, and I made it all about the performance. I think for a movie that relies that much on technology, there s a sense of improvisation and a sense of performance in this movie, far more than the original one. And a sense of humanity in the story. Everything is slightly paradox, but I think that s what gives it its great strength.(Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Rotten Tomatoes: And so you performed everything on the score live with an orchestra?Zimmer: Yeah. I mean, I said to Jon and everybody at Disney, Can I do this? Can I try this experiment?” You know, I had 102 people in the room. We re just going to rehearse. We re just really going to get it under our fingers, and then we re just going to go and do the whole movie for a couple of days. And don t worry about wrong notes. Next time around, we ll probably figure it out. It truly was exciting. And that s what I was trying to do, is get the authenticity of really hearing the musicians.Rotten Tomatoes: When you originally wrote the music for the stampede scene, the track To Die For in the original and new score, were you drawing from compositions or scores that you had heard before? What inspired the musical moment there?Zimmer: Not really. I mean, I ll tell you what I did draw from. It s just my childhood memories of listening to Mozart. It s like I was always slightly worried about this idea that as a German, you re sort of pillaging the culture of Africa. So one of the things I did on the first one, and I ve before with Lebo M., it s like I kept saying, I m a German, so I m going to write with a German accent, just the way we re speaking now. And let me go and take this into Africa and give it to Africa, and let them just respond with their culture, and see what happens where the two cultures collide, if another new thing can come out of it. Had you worked together much in the intervening years?Zimmer: Yes. We had worked on a couple of movies nobody went to see (, and we did touring together. Africa s always been important to this world, and at the same time, it s like it needs more respect. It needs more love. And Lebo s been touring with me, so we have been doing Lion King, bits and pieces of it live. Yes, we ve been comrades in arms for a long time, you know? And he s been sort of the guardian of the musical. Because he s really great at casting this thing. That sort of stuff. He s been looking after our legacy in a much more profound way than I have.So, your daughter: Has she seen the film? Did she say whether you screwed it up?Zimmer: No, but there is something which has puzzled everybody at Disney. They let me have a lot of tickets for the London premiere, and I sent them all back, and I said, I only want two tickets, because I want it to be a father-daughter date.  I hope she s still going to be speaking to me afterwards. It can’t even boast having the best start of the 2018 holiday season so far, falling behind The Grinch’s .5 million last week. By the time the final estimates come out it may not even be a Top 25 November opening. (However, it’s international numbers are more than solid with a worldwide tally of 3 million just this weekend.)The million opening is the lowest in the entire Harry Potter franchise. The previous low: Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them with .4 million. Before that it was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, though that posted the second-highest multiple of the series with a 3.78x.Fantastic Beasts is scheduled to be a five-part series, and critics are bailing on just the second movie. Will audiences? Anything less than 4 million domestic (likely) equals declining territory. And less than 0 million domestic will be a major disappointment for WB. So is it the international haul that truly matters? Like the Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises, American audiences may have grown weary, but as long coffers fill overseas, we will see more of them yet.Rotten Returns: Instant Family Continues Streak of Mark Wahlbombs(Photo by Paramount)Paramount got strong reviews from critics for Mark Wahlberg-starring Instant Family, but the million production from Sean Anders did not have that sweet Daddy’s Home connection with Will Ferrell. Confident that audiences would be looking for a potential feel-good film for the holidays, the studio moved the film up from February into this weekend and was rewarded with just .5 million. Since 1990 there have been a dozen films that have started between .7-.7 million, and only three of them have reached million: The Jackal (1997), Horrible Bosses 2, and Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, which benefited from an awards run. If word-of-mouth cannot build Instant Family this will go down as the seventh straight film that Mark Wahlberg has headlined that has ended up on the losing side of its budget. Steve McQueen’s Widows seemingly is in the same boat as Instant Family with just a .3 million opening and million budget. But as a potential awards player, there is a room for longevity.Top Ten and Beyond: Grinch Eyes Seasonal High, No Box Office Rhapsody For Adult Fare(Photo by © 20th Century Fox)Illumination’s animated adaptation of The Grinch finds itself in a pretty good position, pulling ahead of The Lorax (also from Illumination) with a 10-day gross of 6.5 million. That puts The Grinch at a total end estimate in the 0-0 million range. Meanwhile, another box office song going on: Bohemian Rhapsody, which looks to end in 0 million range. It is over 4 million worldwide to date, making the film a tremendous success for Fox.Non-Grinch, not-Queen movies have less to sing about. With respective budgets of and million, Overlord and The Girl In the Spider s Web are at a mere .7 and .2 million. The new Dragon Tattoo Story is only at million worldwide. Overlord is not much better at million, but it is safe to say we have have seen the last of Lisbeth Salander on the big screen. Disney and theaters are bailing fast on another overpriced failure: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms ( million domestic, 6 million worldwide against a0 million budget), which vanished from over 1,100 theaters in just its third weekend.Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate had the best per-theater-average of the weekend, with ,000 in four theaters, though it is not much of a number to crow about. Another awards hopeful, Green Book, played 25 theaters, driving up 2k before it will expand into over 1,000 on Wednesday. For the MST3kers out there, Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie opened in 26 theaters to 6k. (Enjoy the new season on Netflix this Wednesday!)

At the time, the big mystery was the location of the Soul Stone, which turned out to be a big plot point in the film. But three years later, the stones are gone. The other, as we mentioned above, was nabbed by Loki during the Avengers’ botched attempt to get it just after the Battle of New York. And as we saw as we saw in April s Loki trailer, it is in the possession of a TVA agent when Loki is arrested. That leaves one to wonder if the Stone will be in their evidence locker or if they have a way to return it to Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) custody in that alternate timeline. Will it continue to be a part of Loki s overall scheme? Unless, of course, his reality now lacks for a Thanos, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Black Order – all of whom traveled into the future during Endgame. If that is the case, then the Stone is presumably still on Xandar under the protection of the Nova Corps.Provided, of course, the Guardians of the Galaxy came into existence to defeat Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). If it doesn’t, then that timeline goes without Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) unlocking an aspect of her powers, Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) never getting his speed, and J.A.R.V.I.S. (Paul Bettany) never becoming a part of Vision (also Bettany). Such a timeline could offer “our Wanda” a source for a proper Mind Stone to give Vision back all his facilities. Well, once she learns about that corpse-like Vision flying around New Jersey.The Reality Stone(Photo by © Marvel Studios, © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Where Steve Left It: Somehow, injected back into Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) shortly after Thor and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) took it. Maybe Frigga (Rene Russo) helped out knowing Steve was a friend of her son?Where It Could Be Now: Presuming this alternate timeline is the same one Thanos was in before he leaped to the future, then the Stone would still be in the possession of The Collector (Benicio del Toro). But as we pointed out with some regularity in our coverage of WandaVision, the red energy Wanda wields visually connects to the Aether and it would not surprise us if the source of the Scarlett Witch’s power stems from the same primordial force contained in the Reality Stone. What that means for Wandas in realities where Thanos never collected the Stones – or even our own Wanda – remains to be seen.Of course, as the nature of the Marvel Multiverse is still unknown, we are making a lot of presumptions about where the Stones Steve returned could be. For one thing: we are assuming the Stones were mostly picked from one alternate timeline despite the Ancient One telling Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) that stealing them would create divergent timelines at each point from which they were taken. If we take her at her word, then it is possible War Machine’s (Don Cheadle) decision to knock Peter out on Morag means the Guardians of the Galaxy never form and either Ronan or Ego (Kurt Russell) succeed in their plan. Also, the Ancient One’s reality may have been swallowed up by Dormammu even if Steve returned the Time Stone to her. The mere seconds it was gone still could matter.But one of the elements we’re looking forward to in Loki is a greater clarity about what it means to pluck a Stone from its rightful place in time. Perhaps we’ll even get greater clarity on the success of Steve’s mission to return them at the end of Endgame or, perhaps, we ll learn of a new power tempting the god of mischief away from his old objectives.Loki premieres on Disney+ Wednesday, June 9, 2021. They re the lines you re maybe a little sick of, but can t stop loving. Before they were famous, though – before they were parodied on SNL and printed onto ironic mugs – they were words on a page and then words in a movie you were hearing for the first time, and they stuck. Maybe they were hilarious (poor Gretchen, fetch never happened), or maybe they were chilling ( I see dead people ). Maybe they were delivered just right ( Why so serious? ). Here, we re looking back at the 21 most memorable lines from the movies since August 1998, the year that Rotten Tomatoes came into this world. Night Shyamalan nor Haley Joel Osment knew that the intensely whispered “I see dead people” would become the center of Disney’s marketing push for The Sixth Sense – and the subject of parodies for decades. Talking recently to Rotten Tomatoes, Osment said he was just thankful Twitter hadn’t been invented at the time the film came out, when he was 11. Notting Hill (1999) When you pair America’s sweetheart with Britain’s reigning rom-com king, you have to bring your A-game, and writer Richard Curtis did just that for Notting Hill. With this heartbreaking line, he manages to somehow get us rooting for one of the world’s richest and most glamorous movie stars, and screaming with frustration at the regular “fairly level-headed bloke” whose love she’s asking for. American Pie (1999) Paul and Chris Weitz’s surprisingly sweet teen sex comedy gave us one of the late ’90s most indelible movie images (the pie!), and chased that up with one of the decade’s most memorable movie lines. And one that’s got a sex-positive ring: “What?” asks Alyson Hannigan’s Michelle flatly after revealing where she sometimes puts her flute. “You don’t think I know how to get myself off?” Fight Club (1999) From Chuck Pahalniuk s pen to Brad Pitt s mouth and into the minds of college students all over the country Galaxy Quest (1999) It was only appropriate that this cult spoof of Star Trek and its legion of Trekkie fans would have its own live-long-and-prosper–style catchphrase. It is delivered with Shatnerian levels of cheese and determination by Tim Allen, playing Jason Nesmith, who’s playing Commander Quincy Peter Taggart. Office Space (1999) We could run through an entire stack of Post-Its writing down our favorite lines from Mike Judge’s cult favorite, but this chipper, grating, morning greeting wins out – an encapsulation of the deep, smiley rage suppression that gives Office Space its kick. Erin Brockovich (2000) When Ed (Albert Finney) asks Julia Roberts’ Erin Brockovich, “What makes you think you can just walk in there and find what we need?”, she fires off this line and a look that says, Seriously, you need to ask? The resourceful real-life Erin Brockovich has said she did use the line with the real-life Ed – probably more than once. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Some consider it blasphemy that Peter Jackson added this line as a climax to Gandalf’s defiant verbal smackdown of the fiery Balrog; in the original Tolkien book, Gandalf only says “you cannot pass” (which he also says, though less iconically, as he starts his speech in the film). Jackson’s addition became one of the best “f—k yeah!” moments in the original movie trilogy and went on to spawn thousands of memes. Training Day (2001) Denzel Washington won an Oscar for playing corrupt narcotics cop Alonzo in Atonine Fuqua’s Training Day, and it might have been his delivery this line – puffed-up and chest-pounding as he realizes power is slipping away – that got any hesitant Academy voters across the line. The Incredibles (2004) It’s unfair to say that Edna Mode (voiced by Incredibles writer-director Brad Bird) steals Pixar’s superhero smash – there are too many awesome elements and characters for one to dominate – but she comes very, very close. She’s full of one-liners and shady zingers, but it’s her golden rule (“No capes!”), and the various anecdotes that led to it (R.I.P. Thunderhead), that people remember most fondly. Mean Girls (2004) Mean Girls’ Regina George (Rachel McAdams) is the queen bee of her group, and this was perhaps her sharpest stinger. Irony is, while “fetch” didn’t happen, this line caught on in a big way. 300 (2006) On paper, there’s nothing particularly special about this line – it’s kinda just a statement of fact (it is Sparta, after all – not Athens or Thermopylae, and definitely not madness, nor blasphemy). But coming out of Peak Gerard Butler’s mouth as a kind of gravelly scream for the ages, and accompanied by that iconic slow-mo kick, it’s gone down in film history. Watching this moment, we are all Sparta (even those of us without six packs). Black Panther (2018) This greeting of the Wakandan people, and the accompanying gesture, infiltrated popular culture following the release of mega-hit Black Panther in February 2018. (The film’s stars were asked to do the gesture so frequently on red carpets and during interviews, memes began to circulate showing a bored-looking Chadwick Boseman – who plays the titular hero – giving a perfunctory version of the cross-armed symbol.) Interestingly, the most memorable use of the phrase might come in Infinity War, and not Black Panther, when T’Challa shouts the phrase as he leads his Wakandans into battle against Thanos’s forces. Brokeback Mountain (2005) When Jake Gyllenhaal said these words to Heath Ledger while shooting Brokeback Mountain, he probably had no idea what a life they would go on to have: first as a wrenching moment between their characters, Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar; then as a source of parody and a meme (mostly among those too immature to cope with the film); finally, and most recently, as a shorthand for the film itself, and what it meant to the LGBTQ community to see a gay couple portrayed authentically and without judgment in a major release. The Hunger Games (2012) There are plenty of action-packed, effects-enhanced, and completely thrilling moments throughout the Hunger Games franchise, but few are as simultaneously inspiring and terrifying as the quiet scene in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) steps forward to take her young sister’s place in the Games. The line is lifted directly from the same scene in first book of Susanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. Snakes on a Plane (2006) You may not recall the insane hype around Snakes on a Plane in the lead up to its release – an irony-fueled internet buzz-wave that stemmed, essentially, from the absurdity of its premise-capturing title. You may not even remember much of the film itself. But there is no way you forgot this line, spoken by profanity wizard Samuel L. Jackson in one of those legendary B-movie inspiration speeches he’s so masterful at delivering. (Fun fact: The line has aired on FX as the more-safe-for-work “monkey-flying snakes on this Monday-to-Friday plane.”) Taken (2008) It was in 2009, while in his mid 50s, that Liam Neeson discovered a very particular set of skills – gravelly line-readings, a death-stare for the ages, and a capacity for rapid-fire action – that would launch a whole new chapter of his career: Liam Neeson, Action Star! And while the past decade has been littered with Neeson action programmers (right up to 2019 s Cold Pursuit), none have matched Taken for its intensity, impact, and the power of that oft-quoted bedroom scene.
Gates and engage in more historical nonsense. Let’s hope Disney forks over another 0 million so he can finish the trilogy, whether that happens in theaters or on Disney+.4. SEAN BEAN LIVES! (Photo by (c) Touchstone courtesy Everett Collection)We’ve been programmed to accept that Sean Bean always dies in a spectacular fashion (e.g., Goldeneye ouch), and when his Ian Howe doesn’t fall prey to a Templar trap or an ancient catapult in National Treasure, it’s beautifully unexpected. While it would have been appropriate for Gates to let loose a one-liner  something like “I’ll treasure this moment” or “Prepare to meet your forefathers” as he sent Howe to an elaborate death, it doesn’t happen. In the end, Howe is simply arrested, which leaves him on the chessboard for future installments.After watching Bean die in (spoilers ahead!) Game of Thrones, Black Death, Equilibrium, Don’t Say a Word, The Island, Patriot Games, and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, just to name a few, it’s nice to know one of his fictional characters is still alive. Early scenes between Ben and Ian show us that the two genuinely like each other, and Ian isn’t happy about his sudden heel turn. As the film progresses, Ian turns out to be a suitable antagonist who is always one step behind, but never far. Plus, the more you watch the the movie, the more you begin to like Howe s henchmen, namely Phil, Shaw, Powell, and Shippen, if only because they seem friendly with Ben, and they aren’t completely terrible at being henchmen.5. IT HELPED FILL THE INDIANA JONES VOID(Photo by (c) Touchstone courtesy Everett Collection)Smack dab in between The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and four years before Indiana Jones helped coin the term “nuking the fridge” in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, National Treasure filled a much needed void. The constant travel, puzzle solving, justified thievery, and ancient treasures satiated our thirst for globetrotting adventure; from grounded ships in the Arctic to the reflecting pool in Washington D.C., the frantic pace and constant clues made the most of a proven crowd-pleasing formula.Throw in the fact that Benjamin Franklin Gates, Patrick Gates, and John Adams Gates (Christopher Plummer) are named after American forefathers, and you have a movie that embraces history and isn’t subtle about it. Plus, the 0 million budget, the use of actual landmark locations, and the wonderful production design by Norris Spencer ensured the film would age surprisingly well over time. These types of films don’t really exist anymore, and that’s one of the reasons why we still love it now. Also, we think Indy himself would approve of the way Gates and his crew made sure the treasure was shared with the world, because “it belongs in a museum!”National Treasure was released on November 19, 2004.

Here s everything we know so far about the anticipated adaptation.What Is the Game About?(Photo by Naughty Dog/Sony Interactive Entertainment)In The Last of Us, tough-guy survivor Joel Miller is hired to escort a teenager named Ellie through the wasteland and to some doctors who believe that Ellie may be the cure to the plague. As they make their way from what used to be Boston to what s left of Salt Lake City, they run into the usual post-apocalyptic tropes, including roving groups of infected, a couple of cannibals, some huge jerks, and a giraffe who s escaped from a zoo and is getting out while the getting is good.It s expected that while the show will mostly follow the plot of the first game, it may incorporate elements from The Last of Us Part II, which is set five years after the first game. That said, it actually seems more likely that they ll pull elements from The Last of Us: Left Behind, an Ellie-centric prequel set before the events of the first game.But the series is expected to expand upon the game s story as well, including, apparently, some elements that were previously cut from the game. In an interview with the BBC Sounds Must Watch webcast, series co-creator and writer Craig Mazin said of his Naughty Dog collaborator on the series, Neil [Druckmann], at one point, he was like, You know, there s one thing we were talking about [doing in the first game] for a while, and then he told me what it was, and I was like — gonk! — OK, jaw drop, that s going in. We have to do that. Mazin also said, So the changes that we’re making are designed to fill things out and expand. Not to undo, but rather to enhance, adding that, It s not like we just decided, ‘Well, wouldn t it be cool if there’s one episode where Joel and Ellie get on motorcycles and confront a motorcycle gang?’ There s no episodic nonsense here. The things that are new and enhancing of the storyline that we re doing are connected in organic, serious ways that I think fans of the game and newcomers alike will appreciate. For the role of father figure Joel, the producers chose Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandolorian), who has interactive experience from voicing Paolo in the 2016 sneaky action game Dishonored 2, while Ellie will be played by Pascal s Thrones co-star Bella Ramsey, who voiced Freya in Doctor Who Infinity: The Dalek Invasion of Time. Then there s The Flight Attentant’s Merle Dandridge, who will play Marlene like she did in the first game (and briefly the second).Anna Torv (Fringe, Mindhunter) is the most recent casting announced. Deadline reports Torv will play smuggler Tess, who accompanies Joel to get Ellie to the Fireflies.The cast also includes an Us veteran in Bosch s Jeffrey Pierce, who was the voice of Joel s BFF Tommy in both games, but will, according to Deadline, have a recurring role as a rebel in a quarantine zone, while Chernobyl’s Con O Neill, who voiced Titchy Gren in the game Dark Souls II, will be joined by Murray Bartlett (Iron Fist) as survivalists living alone in their own isolated town. Ryan Fujitani for Rotten Tomatoes: I read that Climax is loosely based on something that actually happened.Gaspar Noé: Yeah, it s an open adaptation. I was working on two other scripts based on true stories, and the moment you decide to make a movie about a true story you need to have the permission of the families. Also you can guess when you weren t in a situation and you see it from the outside or a newspaper, it s reduced to a situation in which people die or something.The whole movie happened quickly, although my line producer was obsessed with the story and I remember that story at the time. The movie was kind of improvised around what we had in mind for the story. So we said, like in the opening of the pitch, we can do a movie about a cult, you can do a movie about a war, you can do a movie about a couple of artists who committed suicide in their house, and you don t know what happened. Then you can invent a story out of that couple of artists who committed suicide in the mountain. But, it s an open adaptation.And certainly the dancers were not as good as the ones that were in the movie. I mixed the story with the dancers that I wanted to film, so you will certainly know this type of dancing.RT: Were you always interested in exploring the dance/musical format at some point?Noé: No, I did once a music video with filmed dancing that I really enjoyed shooting, but I had never shot choreography even two weeks before shooting. I never even thought I would work with a choreographer, hopefully secure Nina McNeely, who s a genius, and the casting, and what she created with them. I discovered on the third day of shooting, I had the crane, and then I started playing with the crane as Nina was playing with the dancers and the dancers were playing with the other dances. That particular scene is certainly the most corrective scene I ve ever shot, because I thought I was more like a documentary director shooting something that I instigated but I was not responsible for. It s like being the captain of a football team you re inside the team, but there are eleven players trying to win. So you can shout, but dancing didn t come from my mind. In my mind I said, Well, I want to do the choreography, and I found my favorite dancers around Paris. If someone has to be congratulated it s more them and Nina than me.RT: The film s themes are open for interpretation, though it s easy to imagine some people will simply take the central message to be an anti-drug warning, and I don t think that s your intention.Noé: It s like, no, some people are for abortion, some people are against abortion. Drugs are everywhere, even coffee, and even wines. The movie s not pro or against the use of chemicals. What I know is that there are situations that are portrayed in movies that exist in real life, and I like watching serious movies that would warn you about things that happened during wartime or in a hippie basement, but it s like everything. Alcohol I like alcohol. It s very good when you take one glass of wine, two glass of wine, and then a third one and fourth, and the energy is going up and up, and everything that is constructive and funny can suddenly turn totally destructive. I ve been in situations in which there were no drugs involved, in which a happy party turns into hell. Some people can handle alcohol, some people can not. Some people can handle small amounts of plants or chemicals, and the alternate. The movie s not a cautionary tale. Drama exists in your life even without substances.Climax is currently in theaters.
