亚博亚洲顶级线上登录采用百度引擎8(Baidu 5)sting thing about the Avengers is: why in the world are all these people in the same room together and what would they do when they were in the same room together? “Joss exceeded all of our wildest expectations – twice.” Joss Whedon was an amazing writer, and had done amazing things – the entire Buffy series, he had written X Men comics in the years preceding that – that showed the character would not get lost amongst the spectacle. And he of course exceeded all of our wildest expectations – twice. The Moment: The Avengers Assemble in the Battle of New YorkIf there is a moment that has come to define The Avengers, and potentially the entire MCU, it is the moment when our key heroes assemble during the climactic battle in New York. The six key “original” Avengers – Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Hawkeye – form a circle, ready for battle, as the camera pans around them and Alan Silvestri’s now-iconic music soars. According to Feige, it was a moment both he and Whedon knew the movie needed.(Photo by ©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)“The moment I realized that this could be an iconic moment, not just for the MCU, but for these kinds of films, was on the mix stage.” The shot of all the Avengers assembling for the first time was shot in an open-air warehouse in New Mexico, not in New York. It was nothing but green screen behind them. Iron Man wasn’t in the shot. Hulk wasn’t in the shot. They were CG and put in later. But it looked pretty cool. And Joss had a great vision for it. Cut to many months later: the visual effects are coming together, Iron Man’s there now, landing, Hulk is there… But the moment I realized that this could be an iconic moment, not just for the MCU, but for these kind of films, was on the mix stage. When the effects were final and when Alan Silvestri’s amazing score was coming in, and the timing, and the experience of watching the whole movie up to that point. When you just watch the dailies, when you just watch the visual effects shots coming in, you don’t get the experience of watching that final playback on the mix stage with Silvestri’s amazing score put in, building to that moment that[ s when] I got chills and I realized Joss had pulled it off. The Impact: We re in the Endgame Now(Photo by Albert L. Ortega/WireImage)To understand the lasting impact of The Avengers and its key inspiring moment, you only need look to the box office. The movie made 3 million domestically, and more than .5 billion globally, which made it the third highest-grossing movie ever at the time. It’s since been beaten out by a handful of films – including Avengers: Infinity War, which would top billion internationally. Avengers: Endgame could make even more than that. But it all started in Phase 1, which began to build the universe audiences love today, and which culminated in the first Avengers movie. Those early films, and The Avengers especially, also changed modern blockbuster moviemaking: Seeing what Marvel did with the MCU, and what Warner Bros. and DC did with the Dark Knight trilogy, studios and filmmakers began to chase the same magic, drawing from beloved comics and graphic novels for inspiration. They began to build their own universes, some more successful than others, trying to capture the imagination of audiences in the way that Feige and his team had done, and continue to do, as we head into the Endgame.Marvel s The Avengers was released on May 4, 2012. solved.Hoffa’s connections to organized crime began in the 1930s when he was a union activist in New York, and it was here that the young Hoffa first gained an audience with mafia dons Russell Bufalino and Angelo Bruno. After years of moving up in the Teamsters Union, all while making shady backdoor deals with the East Coast mafia, Hoffa became president of the Teamsters from 1957 until 1971 and turned it into one of the most powerful in the world. But, on July 30, 1975, just four years after stepping down as Teamsters president, Hoffa vanished without a trace. The unsolved disappearance has led to countless theories of what happened, including ones that posit Hoffa was either buried underneath Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands, compacted in a car and sold as scrap metal and shipped to Japan, or buried under a suburban Detroit driveway. The one commonality is that they all agree the mafia had him taken out.The teaser trailer released today seems to have higher ambitions than just exploring Hoffa s rise, fall, and presumed death, however. With frequent allusions to John F. Kennedy and the role of big business and the government, it seems like The Irishman will tackle the connections between a tangled web of organized crime, crooked unions, and American politics in the 20th century. The Cast and Crew(Photo by Universal courtesy Everett Collection)We first got a glimpse of the type of talent in this movie in the initial teaser (even though it was only their names), but now we finally get to see some of the greatest actors in film history and one of the most beloved and revered directors of all time doing their thing. We all know the work Scorsese, De Niro, Keitel, and Pesci have done together, including Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and Casino, but adding Pacino to that crew is the pistachios on the cannoli. In the upcoming film, Pacino plays Union leader Hoffa and De Niro plays his friend and alleged killer Sheeran, while Keitel and Pesci play bosses of rival East Coast crime families. But the talent doesn’t stop there, as The Irishman’s roster is both top heavy and deep. In addition to these heavy hitters, the film will also feature Oscar winner Anna Paquin, two-time Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale, two-time Emmy nominee Jesse Plemons, and Emmy-winner Ray Romano. In case you weren’t keeping count, that cast features actors who have been nominated for a combined 19 Oscars, 35 Golden Globes, and 27 Emmys, and have collectively taken home five Oscars, five Golden Globes, and seven Emmys. And that’s just in front of the camera.Between Scorsese, screenwriter Steven Zaillian, editor Thelma Shoonmaker, and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, the talent behind the camera has combined for 25 Academy Award noms and four wins. So, with all that talent and excitement, how has it taken so long for this film to get made? The Journey(Photo by Andrew Cooper/Paramount courtesy Everett Collection)This film has been a passion project for director Martin Scorsese for years, with news coming about the potential film as far back as 2008. (That same article refers to Scorsese s adaptation of Shutter Island as an upcoming release, just to give a sense of how long ago 2008 was.)Since then, the film has floundered in development hell, and Scorsese moved on to directing other long-gestating passion projects like Hugo, The Wolf of Wall Street, and 2016’s Silence. But Scorsese kept coming back to the story of the most famous mob hit in history, and finally, in 2017, Paramount and Fábrica de Cine came together to co-finance the film and aim for a 2019 release. So how did it end up on Netflix, you ask?The BudgetYes, like all things, it comes down to cold, hard cash.Initially targeted for a 0 million budget, the movie s cost soon ballooned to nearly 0,000,000 after the production opted to use a CGI de-aging technique to make De Niro, Pacino, and co. appear younger while playing the younger versions of their characters.Because of this price tag (and perhaps still feeling the burn left by Silence, which cost upwards of million and took in less than million at the box office), Fábrica de Cine and Paramount decided to back out of the project less than a year after agreeing to fund it.Fábrica de Cine producer Gaston Pavlovich explained this difficult decision, saying We quickly realized that Marty and De Niro really thought that the aging process was going to be a very important aspect of this film. The traditional model was not going to work with this new vision of the project [we could not] risk that amount [of money] when all our data was telling us that it was not going to come back. Thankfully, Netflix stepped in, and the importance is not lost on Scorsese, who recently said, “People such as Netflix are taking risks. The Irishman is a risky film. No one else wanted to fund the pic for five to seven years. And of course we’re all getting older. Netflix took the risk.”(Photo by Netflix)Even so, the CGI de-aging comes with both budgetary and cinematic concerns. Previously used on Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button, Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy, and Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War, the de-aging technology has advanced in recent years to appear more natural, but still remains costly. So costly, in fact, that until Samuel L. Jackson (and, perhaps less noticeably, Clark Gregg) was made to look 25 years younger in the recent Captain Marvel, it had only been used sparingly.Editor Thelma Schoonmaker called it a “risk,” saying, “We’re youthifying the actors in the first half of the movie. And then the second half of the movie they play their own age. So that’s a big risk. We’re having that done by Industrial Light and Magic Island, ILM. That’s a big risk.”While it might be cool to see young Pacino, young De Niro, young Pesci, and young Keitel in the same scene, it could also venture too close to the uncanny valley and take the viewers out of the film.Schoonmaker has also expressed some trepidation over how the public is going to view seeing a 30-year-old Pacino, De Niro, et al. in a 2019 movie: “I haven’t gotten a whole scene where they’re young, and what I’m going to have to see, and what Marty’s going to have to see, is ‘How is it affecting the rest of the movie, when you see them young?’” In that same interview, the eminent editor said that, of the few people they’ve screened the movie for, “nobody minds. Nobody minds watching them play young, because they’re gripped.”While we don t see too much of the de-aged film legends in the teaser trailer, what we do see looks pretty good. On first impressions, the one shot of a young De Niro talking on the phone might be a little distracting, but this is just the first glimpse, so that s a given. With what is sure to be stellar directing from Scorsese and brilliant acting from some silver screen legends, audiences likely won t even notice that there s a 40-something Robert De Niro in a 2019 movie. The Release(Photo by Paramount Pictures)As one of Netflix s main prestige productions for 2019, it was always expected that The Irishman would be released at the heart of awards season, and now we have confirmation. It was recently announced that The Irishman will celebrate its world premiere as the Opening Night film for the 2019 New York Film Festival on September 27. Most likely, the film will be available for the general public a few weeks later in theaters and on your couch.Previously, Scorsese has expressed his disdain for movie-watching on small screens, saying that when he was growing up, films “had to be shown in certain ways — people went to a movie, it wasn’t something you could choose or pick up, or walk out of the room. You actually made a commitment. It was a different experience.” He continued, “the ideal would be to see cinema in its proper context… It’s a problem of pure concentration.”Robert de Niro agrees, saying at a recent film festival, Movies have to be shown on a big screen.  It appears Netflix also shares this sentiment, as the teaser trailer announces that the film will be shown in select theaters. Unfortunately, we still don’t really know when exactly The Irishman will be released. But we now know that it will have a splashy premiere at a prestigious film festival at the end of September, and will be shown in theaters and on the streaming service sometime this Fall. The Irishman  is currently set to release in select theaters an on Netflix during the Fall of 2019. as Fresh news. Warner Bros. has scheduled Space Jam 2 for July 16, 2021 (the week after Indiana Jones 5).5. REGINA KING TO DIRECT THEATRE ADAPTATION ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI (Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)Actress Regina King  won an Academy Award earlier this year for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk, but to paraphrase the old saying, maybe what she really wanted to do next was direct. King is now signed to make her feature film directorial debut with an adaptation of the play One Night in Miami  The play s setting is the night of February 25th, 1964, when the young boxer Cassius Clay (A.K.A. Mohammad Ali) celebrated his win over Sonny Liston at a motel where he was joined by three other icons of the 1960s: civil rights leader Malcolm X, soul singer Sam Cooke, and Cleveland Browns star player Jim Brown. It should be interesting to see whom Regina King will cast as her four leads. Will Smith starred in Ali, and Denzel Washington starred in Malcolm X, but the long-planned Sam Cooke biopic is still in development.6. NETFLIX BETS BIG ON STAR-DRIVEN THRILLERS RED NOTICE AND KATE (Photo by Frank Masi/Columbia Pictures, Jack English/Summit Entertainment, Clay Enos/Warner Bros.)There was a story this week that reported Netflix may start being more budget conscious about their film and TV projects. That may be, in a big-picture sort of way, but it also came in the same week that news broke about two star-driven Netflix thrillers. Red Notice is the title of a heist thriller that Universal Pictures had previously scheduled for November 13, 2020, with both Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot attached to star. Reportedly, Universal had reservations after the screenplay was turned in, and so the project was picked up by Netflix instead, with Johnson and Gadot now to be joined by Ryan Reynolds. Woody Harrelson also signed on this week to co-star in the assassin thriller Kate, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane). Red Notice will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who earned Rotten scores for We re the Miller and Skyscraper, while Kate will be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who made his debut with The Huntsman: Winter s War (Rotten at 18%). Neither of the directors inspires much confidence, but we can t deny those casts are impressive.7. UNIVERSAL CASTS ITS INVISIBLE MAN (Photo by Steve Dietl/Netflix)Back when Universal Pictures had ambitious plans for a Dark Universe of reboots of their classic monsters, Johnny Depp had been expected to star in The Invisible Man, but those plans were dropped after the box office disappointment that was 2017 s The Mummy. For a while, there was some confusion over whether or not the movie might be called The Invisible Woman, because Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid s Tale, The West Wing) was described as the film s star. The confusion was cleared up slightly this week as Blumhouse and Universal has cast relative newcomer Oliver Jackson-Cohen (of Netflix s The Haunting of Hill House) as the title character in The Invisible Man. Univesal has scheduled The Invisible Man for March 13, 2020, up against another monster movie, Godzilla vs Kong. One of the other co-stars in The Invisible Man will be 16-year-old Storm Reid (12 Years a Slave, A Wrinkle in Time), who this week also joined The Suicide Squad (8/6/2021) as the daughter of Idris Elba s character.Rotten Idea2. MOMO INTERNET HOAX TO GET ITS OWN MOVIE(Photo by DOUGBERRY/Getty Images)It seems longer ago than 2018, but last year, stories started appearing online about the Momo Challenge, which reportedly encouraged children and teeangers to put themselves in dangerous or injurious situations. The character called Momo was actually a Japanese sculpture called Mother Bird (but really, it most resembles Geena Davis in some scenes from Beetlejuice). Orion Pictures (of the recent Child s Play reboot) is now teaming up with producer Roy Lee (IT, The Ring) to develop a horror film based on the Momo challenge. The decision to adapt an Internet meme seems similar to Sony PIctures choice last year to release a film based on Slender Man, which ended up earning a very low Rotten score at just 7%.1. LOOK WHO S REMAKING LOOK WHO S TALKING(Photo by TriStar Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)Amy Heckerling s 1989 comedy Look Who s Talking (Rotten at 59%) was followed in 1990 by Look Who s Talking Too (Rotten at 14%), and in 1993 by Look Who s Talking Now  (Rotten at 0%). John Travolta and Kirstie Alley starred in those movies about talking babies and, in the third movie, talking dogs. Despite those critical drubbings, Sony Pictures is now developing a Look Who s Talking reboot to be written and directed by Jeremy Garelick, whose 2015 comedy The Wedding Ringer earned a Rotten score at 27%. It s not yet known if Bruce Willis or any of the other voice actors might return for the reboot (but probably not).Like this? (Photo by © Altered Innocence / Courtesy: Everett Collection)30 Essential LGBTQ+ Horror MoviesAs long as there have been horror films, there have been queer horror films. Before homosexuality was formally legislated out of existence in Hollywood by the Production Code — commonly referred to as the Hays Code, which established mandates for “moral standards” in motion pictures and banned depictions of “sexual perversity” — the legendary filmmaker James Whale was building the foundation for American genre cinema with films like Frankenstein, The Old Dark House, and The Invisible Man. Here was Whale, a gay man, building horror in his own image and having astounding box office success as some groups were lobbying Hollywood to censor queerness out of existence. Fortunately, they weren’t creative enough to drive the big bad Other away.In the century since America became the world’s leader in horror film production, the genre became a bastion for the outsiders, the marginalized, the people made monsters by self-appointed adjudicators of sin, and who saw themselves in the supposed “villains” at the center of stories like Dracula’s Daughter. On rare occasion, queer folks were given real protagonists to root for, like Theo in The Haunting, but it wasn’t until the Hays Code was abandoned in the late 1960s that sexuality outside the bounds of heteronormativity became more overt. (Not to say it was all positive representation, but the lesbian vampire wave of the 1970s certainly signified that the puritans were losing the culture wars in genre.) The Moral Majority reign of the Reagan Era slammed up against the AIDS crisis, and the excess and tumult of the 80s gave rise to ultra-stylish and sexualized gore in movies like The Hunger and Hellraiser. The indie cinema boom at the turn of turn of the millennium coincided with the emergence of New Queer Cinema, and eccentric coming-of-age darlings like May and Ginger Snaps provided an alternative to the glossy studio slashers of the time. Now in 2020, we can choose from a lesbian domestic drama involving a baby werewolf in Good Manners, a transfeminist vampire movie in Bit, or a French slasher set in a gay porn community with Knife + Heart. The monsters are out of the closet, and they’re never going back in. Here are our 30 essential LGBTQ+ horror movies, in order of release. – Jordan Crucchiola

4. 呼朋唤友 随心所欲
Female superheroes have been around almost as long as the genre itself, with Wonder Woman paving the way for a diverse group of characters as far back as the 1940s. On television, she also established a foothold alongside characters like The Mighty Isis and Electra Woman in the 1970s. Unfortunately, as superheroes disappeared from television in the 1980s, so too did these initial, beloved characters. With the big expansion of superhero television in the 21st Century, female superheroes returned, and it is nearly impossible to think of a series without a key superpowered woman in the cast. Granted, very few headline a series currently, there is only one female-led superhero show but their contributions often keep their shows running. But who are the best on television right now? And is it their abilities, life experience, or strength of will that makes them great? Here are seven of the greatest female superheroes on television right now who prove it is a combination of all three factors that sets them apart from the rest.Supergirl  Supergirl 90%(Photo by Jordon Nuttall/The CW)Debut in Comics: Action Comics #252Abilities: flight, super strength, super speed, invulnerability, heat vision, x-ray vision, super hearingCertainly the most powerful of the female superheroes on television, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) also boasts the most diverse set of abilities. On a physical level, she can dish it out easily, but Kara’s most important power is often her sense of hope and empathy. She never wants to get into a brawl – in fact, she prefers to avoid it – and would rather make a foe her ally. This sometimes works out, as when Livewire (Brit Morgan) helped out on Kara’s mission to Fort Roz last year. And other times, as with season 3 nemesis Reign (Odette Annable), Kara s appeals may fail to warm an evil heart, which forces a fight. Nonetheless, Kara s opponents often mistake her hope as a weakness instead of the bedrock of her strengths.Syd Barrett  Legion 91%(Photo by Prashant Gupta/FX)Debut in Comics: n/aAbilities: body switchingLet’s face it, Syd (Rachel Keller) has not had an easy go of it on FX’s Legion. When we meet her, she lives in extreme isolation, thanks to her cruel mutant ability – any skin-to-skin contact will see her consciousness transferred to the body of the person touching her. Nonetheless, she manages to find some semblance of a life with the people at Summerland and David Haller (Dan Stevens). Then he disappears for a year. During that time, she learns to control her ability as the Summerland group ally with Division 3, the government agency previously engaged in hunting them. And once David resurfaces and she learns his role in the coming apocalypse, she resolves to either heal him or kill him. David escalates things by trying to restore their previous love affair and assaulting her, but despite the complete betrayal, Syd bounces back and rededicates herself to the one action guaranteed to save the world. That resiliency, especially in the world of Legion, is a superpower in its own right.Black Canary  Arrow 86%(Photo by Dean Buscher/The CW Network)Debut in Comics: Flash Comics #86 (as Dinah Drake)Abilities: sonic cry, advanced combat trainingDinah Drake’s (Juliana Harkavy) sonic cry certainly came in handy when Team Arrow needed a new member to replace the deceased Black Canary, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy). She also proved a worthy opponent to Laurel s villainous Earth-2 counterpart, Black Siren (also Cassidy). But even if she was not a meta, Dinah would certainly be worthy to stand alongside the team as an accomplished fighter. With her staff, she’s almost unstoppable. She also has superb strength of character, as exemplified by her willingness to work with Black Siren – now pretending to be the Earth-1 Laurel and operating as the Star City District Attorney – and even moving past her culpability in the death of Dinah’s ex-boyfriend Vincent (Johann Urb). That strength takes on many forms, even as recently as this week’s episode, in which she finally admitted to the team that she can no longer use her cry. Though reluctant, her willingness to share illustrates her continued growth and is yet another reason why she will continue to be the Canary long after Team Arrow disintegrates as noted in the 2040 flash-forwards.Polaris  The Gifted 79%(Photo by Ryan Green/Fox)Debut in Comics:The X-Men #49Abilities: magnetic manipulationSure, Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont) may have spent most of the second season of The Gifted allied with the very questionable Inner Circle, but her willingness to admit her mistake in this regard puts her back on the right side, even if she stayed away from the remaining Mutant Underground characters. From the series first moments, Lorna was portrayed as one of the most powerful mutants around, thanks to an ability that can stop bullets, open fences, and even bring down an entire airplane, killing all of its passengers. That last point certainly set up a heel-turn, but as the show’s second year progressed, Lorna saw the downside of her actions and the horrifying real intent of Inner Circle’s plan to create a mutant homeland. Nonetheless, she acknowledged her errors and resolved to make amends. That resiliency is part of what makes Lorna one of the most interesting characters on the show, and doubly so as she remains strong while combating a chronic mental illness. Should the show continue in the Disney era of X-Men properties, it will be interesting to see how she juggles the roles of hero and mother. She would probably say they are the same thing.Killer Frost  The Flash 89%(Photo by Dean Buscher/The CW)Debut in Comics: Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #19 (as Caitlin Snow)Abilities: ice generation and manipulationThis is a strange one, as Killer Frost is traditionally a villain. But The Flash took her on a curious journey as viewers discovered she is a distinct personality from her host, Dr. Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) – one dedicated to protecting Caitlin above all other concerns. Nonetheless, the pull toward selfish acts and quick answers was strong (see her alliance with Savitar in season 3), but as she and Caitlin learned to share one body, Frost also learned empathy. And then, she was seemingly gone for a time, and the absence affected Caitlin and the fans more acutely than anyone could predict. She eventually resurfaced with a resolve to be more of a team player she s a far cry from the woman who walked away from Team Flash at the end of season 3. Meanwhile, in the current season, her powers prove uniquely effective against Cicada (Chris Klein) as she is immune to his power-dampening dagger. It s a good thing she decided to work with the group, otherwise their few successes against the meta serial killer would not have been possible.Elasti-Woman   Doom Patrol 97%(Photo by DC Universe)Debut in Comics: My Greatest Adventure #80 (as Elasti-Girl)Abilities: limited shape changing and mass exchangeRita Farr (April Bowlby) is a ways from admitting this to herself, but she has the strength to lead a superhero team even one as dysfunctional as a the Doom Patrol. On a purely physical level, she must have Supergirl levels of strength to maintain her human form. When out of control, she is a giant rolling mass capable of occupying an entire city block. Keeping that form in check requires tons of strength, to say nothing of mental fortitude. Sure, she still slips from time to time with so much of her power devoted to retaining her idealized shape, the slightest emotional upset can weaken her resolve but that’s the real challenge she faces in the first season of the show: accepting those mistakes as part of her path to becoming a strong and capable woman. Along the way, she might even figure out how to use her gelatinous form to stretch like her comic book counterpart. At that point, she will be more formidable than even Jane (Diane Guerrero) or Robotman (Brendan Fraser).Zari Tomaz   DC's Legends of Tomorrow 89%(Photo by Dean Buscher/The CW)Debut in Comics: Shazam! #25 (as The Mighty Isis)Abilities: air manipulationWhen Zari (Tala Ashe) first joined the Waverider crew, she was sarcastic, reluctant to engage, and more of a hindrance to the mission than an asset. In short, she was a Legend in the making. She abused the ship’s food replication system to snack endlessly and played video games constantly in lieu of getting to know anybody. Nonetheless, she would also call out the other Legends for being slackers, and after getting caught in a time loop, she learned to care about them. She also began to involve herself in the mission, particularly once the group discovered the Air Totem that generates her abilities was tied to their opponent, the time demon Mallus. By the point the Legends found the other totems and unified them into a giant Cuddle Me Beebo doll to fight Mallus, she was definitely a member of the team. In the most recent season, Zari has continued to grow, taking on more responsibilities and even mentoring new recruit Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers). Well, mentoring after a fashion. And while she continues to grow as a hero or as much of a hero as a Legend can be she still finds time to snack.Like this? It looks like the world really is more interesting with Clarice Starling in it.On February 11, CBS will premiere new series Clarice, a psychological horror drama that follows what happened to the FBI Academy’s famed behavioral science expert after the events depicted in author Thomas Harris’ novel, The Silence of the Lambs. Set in 1993 — meant to be a year after the timing of director Jonathan Demme and writer Ted Tally’s film adaptation of that book — fans will see how she is dealing (or not dealing) with the trauma of her experiences with serial killers Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) and Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) as she returns to the field to investigate more murders and mayhem. And, because series creators Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet are not concentrating on plots straight from a Harris novel, viewers will also see a different version of Clarice herself — and not just because she’s now being played by Australian actress Rebecca Breeds instead of Jodie Foster’s Academy Award–winning depiction of the FBI officer in Lambs or Julianne Moore’s depiction of her in 2001’s Hannibal.Clarice Season 1 Keyart Exclusive Debut: (Photo by CBS)Click image to open the full-sized poster in a new tab. “The story continues to be told; it continues to evolve,” Breeds told Rotten Tomatoes from the show s filming home base of Toronto after a night of shooting the new series’ seventh episode. “So I need to be able to continue to invent who she is in different scenarios. So I have to pull from what is authentic and what is me, because that s all I can do.”To wit: The poster for the series, which Rotten Tomatoes is exclusively debuting here, is a metamorphosis of the cover associated with Lambs. As more and more people are compelled to practice social distancing and encouraged to stay home, as movie theaters temporarily shutter their doors, and as studios continue to pull their scheduled 2020 films off the release calendar, we ve decided to reformat the Critics Consensus column to focus on titles that are newly available on the home entertainment market. With that in mind, our list of digital and streaming new releases this week includes a World War II naval thriller, a high-concept rom-com, and an action-fantasy based on a comic book. See below for details. (Photo by Rich Fury/Getty Image)GOOOAALLL!!! Apple TV+ s feel-good comedy Ted Lasso received the 2021 Primetime Emmy Award for best comedy series. In total, between Sunday s broadcast and last week s Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the Jason Sudeikis-led series about a mustachioed fish-out-of-water British football coach received 11 trophies including one for its leading man, plus supporting acting trophies for actor Brett Goldstein and actress Hannah Waddingham. That 11-trophy haul was something matched by limited series The Queen s Gambit and drama The Crown, which dominated the night in their respective categories.See what critics are saying about the 73rd Emmy AwardsCheck out the best looks from the Emmys 2021 red carpetSee the full list of winners from the 2021 Emmy AwardsDespite adhering to quarantine regulations by keeping the event to an intimate gathering in Los Angeles as well as a watch party in London (where it was 1am when the broadcast started), the Cedric the Entertainer-hosted CBS program managed to hand out 28 awards including the annual Governors Award, which this year went to actress-director and dance extraordinaire, Debbie Allen. That things went so smoothly – if at times rather dully – might actually have been the biggest surprise of them all, as most of the winners were as routine as a morning drop-off of biscuits from an overly optimistic Kansan. But there were some big bold takeaways from the night, not all of them the kind you wanna sing about 1. The Brits Rule the Night(Photo by Rich Fury/Getty Images)It wasn t just Ted Lasso that won big at the Emmys. As mentioned, the TV Academy also raised a few pints to Netflix s monarchy drama, The Crown. The series won best drama, creator Peter Morgan won the Emmy for writing for a drama series and Jessica Hobbs took home the Emmy for best directing for a drama series. The series actors Olivia Colman, Josh O Connor, Tobias Menzies, and Gillian Anderson (who was technically born in Chicago, but is married to Morgan and spent a chunk of her childhood in London, so we ll let it slide) also received honors.Other British winners included Mare of Easttown s Kate Winslet, who received the Emmy for lead actress in a limited or anthology series or movie and I May Destroy You s Michaela Coel, who received the Emmy for writing for a limited or anthology series or movie. Ewan McGregor, who is Scottish, also won the lead actor in a limited series or movie Emmy for his work in Netflix s Halston. How did the Brits celebrate? In style. Michaela Coel Implores Creators to Write the Tale That Scares You One of the biggest surprises of the night wasn t that Coel won for writing the HBO limited series I May Destroy You, but that she didn t win more awards for her work on the powerful piece about rape, assault, and survival. (The 2020 miniseries is Certified Fresh with a 98% Tomatometer). She was also nominated for directing and starring in the project, which was also nominated for best limited series or anthology.Coel s remarks upon accepting her Emmy will also not soon be forgotten. During the concise and poignant 33-odd second acceptance Coel told her fellow creatives to write the tale the scares you; that makes you feel uncertain; that is uncomfortable. I dare you. Other winners with memorable Emmy acceptance speeches included Mare of Easttown s Julianne Nicholson, who reached out to all the ladies in Philadelphia and Kabul, Hacks star Jean Smart, who thanked her late husband, and Governors Award winner Allen, who spoke to the women in Texas and Afghanistan as well as the next generation who are just beginning to fight for equality.3. Lack of Diversity Among the Winners. Again.(Photo by Rich Fury/Getty Images)After last year s Emmy Awards saw major gains for performers of color, in particular Black performers, this year s ceremony was a step back in that department. Although RuPaul made history, becoming the person of color with the most Emmy wins, there were very few people of color who would eventually be on the winner s stage. This was frustrating to many viewers, as many performers of color were nominated this year, including Billy Porter, Mj Rodriguez, Uzo Aduba, the cast of A Black Lady Sketch Show, and the late Michael K. Williams, among many others. On the brighter side, several of the Emmys bits did recognize Black talent. One featured host Cedric and three different actresses who have played his wives on sitcoms. (The Neighborhood s Tichina Arnold, The Soul Man s Niecy Nash, and The Steve Harvey Show s Terri J. Vaughn).4. Touching Tributes to Friends We ve Lost, Including Michael K. Williams and Norm Macdonald(Photo by Rodin Eckenroth/FilmMagic)While the traditional In Memoriam segment was as tear-jerking as always, several people on stage also took the time to remember their friends. Both Last Week Tonight s John Oliver and Saturday Night Live s Lorne Michaels referenced comedian Norm Macdonald, who died last week, in their acceptance speeches. And Kerry Washington made a point of mentioning the work of Michael K. Williams when presenting the supporting actor in a drama category, in which he was nominated for his work in HBO s Lovecraft Country. The reaction on her face when her friend lost that category was palpable.5. Schitt s Creek Cast Shows Why We Still Can t Get Enough of Them(Photo by Cliff Lipson/CBS via Getty Images)It s been a year since the cast of Netflix s Schitt s Creek swept the Emmys and kept us laughing all the way through that ceremony. So that s why the stars banter before presenting the award for best writing for a comedy series felt so warm. Was there actually a teleprompter issue? Was star Eugene Levy actually giving notes to the Emmy Awards writers? Does it even matter? Sometimes it s not worth asking why we re given good things.6. Conan O Brien Photobombs His Way Into Our HeartsWhen you re 6 4 with a shock of red hair and a recognizable laugh, it s hard to blend into a crowd. Especially if you re Conan O Brien. The talk-show host made his presence known at the 2021 Emmy Awards, even though he did not actually receive an Emmy. He made sure to crash any opportunity he could get, be it improvising remarks to TV Academy CEO and chairman Frank Scherma or joining Stephen Colbert and his producers on stage when they accepted the award for best variety special (live) for Stephen Colbert s Election Night 2020.On an Apple device? 亚博亚洲顶级线上登录 Rick/Cliff relationship is reportedly inspired by the real-life actor and stuntman duo Burt Reynolds and Hal Needham. They are fictional characters, as is Rick’s agent Marvin Schwarz (Al Pacino). But it’s the colorful assortment of real-life figures from the period that make Once Upon A Time a Who’s Who of late- 60s Tinseltown.Australian Oscar nominee Margot Robbie stars as Sharon Tate, and another Aussie actor, Justified star Damon Herriman, plays Charles Manson.(Photo by Weinstein Company)Bruce Dern plays George Spahn, the California rancher who was persuaded to allow the Manson Family to live on his property. (Remember the Spahn Movie Ranch?) The role was originally, in fact, supposed to be played by Burt Reynolds, who died in September of 2018. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes promoting his Certified Fresh film, The Mustang, Dern had this to say about Tarantino s film: All I can say is this is me telling you he s a magician, because in this movie, he did something mad. It s probably the most unique endeavor I ve seen a director undertake and do. Without ruining the movie for you I can t tell you what that is, but the minute you get to see it, you will say, Bruce Dern is absolutely right.' Dern continued: You ll know, because he did the single most unpredictable thing I ve ever seen a director do, in this movie. And I don t mean a moment; I mean the entire movie. Because, you know what, you probably remember something about the Manson Murders, and How horrendous! and so forth and so on. Well, everybody says, Oh my God! I can t wait til Quentin does the Manson Murders. There s a movie about that, I can t wait, and so forth and so on. Well, I won t say a word, but remember I told you what I told you. Moving on, Dakota Fanning plays Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, a Manson disciple best known for trying to assassinate President Gerald Ford. Billions star Damian Lewis plays A-list actor and heartthrob Steve McQueen, then considered the coolest Hollywood star on the planet.(Photo by Columbia Pictures)Emile Hirsch plays celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring, also killed in the Tate murders. Polish actor Rafal Zawierucha plays the young Roman Polanski, who was filming in London on the night his wife was killed by the Manson Family. Austin Butler plays Charles “Tex” Watson, the most vicious of the Manson Family killers, who was convicted of seven first-degree murders.Girls star/creator Lena Dunham plays Catherine “Gypsy” Share, a Manson follower who did not participate in the murders, while The Haunting of Hill House star Victoria Pedretti plays Manson Family member and convicted murderer Leslie (“Lulu”) Van Houten who was just 19 at the time of the slayings.Fittingly, Mike Moh plays martial arts icon Bruce Lee, who actually suspected Polanski briefly in Tate’s murder. Moh, who starred in Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, has paid tribute to Lee in several YouTube videos. And, sadly, Once Upon A Time marks the final on-screen role for Luke Perry, the Beverly Hills 90210 and Riverdale star who died suddenly on March 4 at the age of 52. Perry plays Scott Lancer, one of the main characters on the Western TV series Lancer, which ran on CBS from 1968 to 1970.Other stars playing both true-life and fictional characters include long-time Tarantino mainstays Michael Madsen and Tim Roth, as well as Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant, Lorenza Izzo, Maya Hawke, Rumer Willis, and Scoot McNairy.Keep in Mind Ryan FujitaniTarantino has been known to play hard and loose with history. Remember how Inglorious Basterds imagined an alternate reality in which American Jewish soldiers took their revenge on Hitler and murdered him at the height of WWII? Is it possible Once Upon A Time will put its own stamp on the most infamous, shocking crime of the 1960s, a crime that signaled a dark, bloody end to hippie culture? Dern s words seem to suggest it might.Sharon Tate’s sister Debra, who’s been very protective of her sister’s legacy and, according to an article on Nerdist.com, was already protesting the film even before she knew what it was about, told TMZ: “This movie is not what people would expect it to be when you combine the Tarantino and Manson names. Sounds like she approves. Get ready for the unexpected.Once Upon a Time in Hollywood  opens everywhere on July 26.
