天天连萌怎么刷金币采用百度引擎8(Baidu 3)Fans of the Ghostbusters franchise have been waiting for decades for another true sequel to the 1984 paranormal comedy and its 1989 follow-up. Regardless of whether you enjoyed the 2016 reboot, Ghostbusters: Afterlife has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, the first reviews of the new movie agree that the devoted fanbase will be pleased, and they’ll find a young new star to follow into more installments. There are some disagreements on just how much Afterlife works as both a sequel and as a movie overall, but it seems you don’t need to be afraid of this effort. Here’s what critics are saying about Ghostbusters: Afterlife:Is this the Ghostbusters sequel fans have been waiting for? “Ghostbusters: Afterlife emerges as a wildly successful next installment… An utter joy to take in.” Joey Magidson, Awards Radar“This new spin gets it soooooo right… A warm, funny, exciting, nostalgic, emotional, and altogether winning return to the pure joy of that 1984 classic.” Pete Hammond, Deadline“In terms of being a Ghostbusters movie, what Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan achieved with this film is incredible. This is the Ghostbusters sequel that I have been waiting my entire life to see.” Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment“Make no mistake, this is a Ghostbusters movie through and through.” Rosie Knight, IGN Movies“It’s not quite the same as the Ghostbusters we know, but it entirely feels like Ghostbusters.” Olly Richards, Empire Magazine“The good news for Ghostbusters fans is that Afterlife does nothing to tarnish what has come before.” Peter Debruge, Variety“When it’s good, it’s very good.” Germain Lussier, io9.com“One of the best sequels in recent memory.” Marya E. Gates, Nerdist“One of the best movies of the year.” Kaitlyn Booth, Bleeding Cool(Photo by Colulmbia Pictures)Is there a lot of fan service?“There are enough Easter eggs to make a grown man cry.” Rosie Knight, IGN Movies“Yes, there are fan service moments in the movie, but how these moments are handled makes them stand out even more.” Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment“Reitman’s biggest swings are sure to create divisive and heated conversations amongst fans of all generations.” Sean O Connell, CinemaBlend“The weakest parts of the film really are when it leans a little too hard into fan service, with too heavy a knowing wink.” Marya E. Gates, Nerdist“You go from caring about these characters to being distracted by all of the references, and that’s a real shame.” Germain Lussier, io9.comDoes it bring anything new to the franchise?“Very new in all the right ways.” Pete Hammond, Deadline“Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a more grandiloquent approach than the original flick… It mostly works because of how winning the new elements are.” David Crow, Den of Geek“It’s rich with affection for its source but excited about new ways to play with it. ” Olly Richards, Empire Magazine“Plenty here is shiny and new… It shines brightest when Reitman finds new ways to spin these callbacks, rather than just repeat them. ” Marya E. Gates, Nerdist“It’s endearing to see [all the] props back in play, and refreshing to see how Reitman uses them in drastically different fashion than his father did. ” Sean O Connell, CinemaBlend“Afterlife succeeds precisely by not messing with the formula… This is a movie that feels like a product of the ’80s in a good way. ” Jane Crowther, Total Film“The story these characters are sucked into is so directly tied to the original… Ghostbusters: Afterlife feels like a film scared to be its own thing. ” Germain Lussier, io9.com(Photo by Columbia Pictures)What if you’ve never seen Ghostbusters?“You can go into this movie without seeing any of the previous movies, and you ll like it just as much as a fan will.” Kaitlyn Booth, Bleeding Cool“It manages to balance that fine and financially lucrative line between pleasing fans of the original and creating something accessible for new audiences.” Rosie Knight, IGN Movies“This film will open the doors to those who may not have seen the original. I can see this film becoming a massive hit and generating a fan base.” Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment“It s hard to imagine Ghostbusters: Afterlife minting a new generation of fans.” Christian Holub, Entertainment WeeklyDoes it have broad appeal?“There is plenty here for everyone to like. This is a movie that is going to be enjoyed by the kids in the theaters just as much as the adults.” Kaitlyn Booth, Bleeding Cool“More akin to

(Photo by The CW)Comic book television had another stellar year in 2018, with shows like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina joining returning programs like Arrow, Preacher, and the since-cancelled Marvel shows on Netflix. The sudden departures of Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist also marked a time of change as The Walking Dead’s lead actor said goodbye (sort of) and cable outlets and streaming services scooped up Deadly Class, The Umbrella Academy, and The Boys for a 2019 filled with shows not based on Marvel or DC superheroes. Granted, the DC Universe streaming service will make sure plenty of new superheroes make their way to TV in the coming year. But before the new year arrives, let’s look back at some of our favorite moments in comic book television in 2018.WARNING: Spoilers ahead. The Walking Dead s Rick Grimes Blows Up His Alexandra BridgePerhaps more memorable for the the publicity around it, Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) decision to blow up the bridge he spent most of his time in The Walking Dead’s ninth season was a defining moment for the character and the series as a whole. For Rick, it was the ultimate act of sacrifice in order to save everyone he loved. And consider the time-jump after the explosion, he definitely experienced a thematic death if not the true death AMC teased when it decided to let fans known Lincoln was leaving the show.Someday, Rick’s decision will be remembered for its impact on the story, but in 2018, the scene was more about Lincoln’s departure and AMC’s announcement that both he and Rick would return in a Walking Dead spinoff TV movie. Making the scene and the announcement interlinked was the decision to reveal Rick’s new status on Talking Dead immediately after Lincoln’s final episode aired. Some viewers were left feeling like a bait-and-switch had occurred, but it indicated the network’s ambition for the world of Walkers, survivors and even Rick himself. It is nonetheless a rare sort of media circus for a television show based on a comic book and, therefore, memorable.Riverdale s Second Black Hood Reveal(Photo by The CW)When the Black Hood was first unmasked as Riverdale High School janitor Joseph Svenson (Cameron McDonald) in season 2, episode 9, it thudded across the screen. The character was only introduced two episodes prior and, as star K.J. Apa pointed out when we visited the Riverdale set in November, Svenson s eyes were not the color he saw when the Black Hood began his spree at Pop s Chock lit Shoppe. And though showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa promised the show was moving on to a new mystery, the apparent solution to the Black Hood case never felt right. And, of course, it wasn t. After a month or two of dormancy, the Black Hood reappeared during the school s production of Carrie: The Musical, killing Midge Klump (Emilija Baranac) and stringing up her body on the set as a calling card. The chase for him resumed as the tensions between the Ghoulies and the Serpents reached the breaking point. And then, in Chapter Thirty-Four: Judgment Night that aired in May, Betty (Lili Reinhart) went home to discover the Black Hood was her own father Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro). The scene, in which Hal forces Alice (Madchen Amick) and Betty to watch a home movie of his mother teaching him about the corruption of the world, tied everything together. Becoming an avenging angel ran in the family. Setting up a patsy also seemed to be a tradition among the Coopers, as Hal revealed that he convinced Svenson to take the fall as the Black Hood. Considering Hal s ties to the Blossom clan, this turn of events also felt thematically consistent. His plan to finish off his own family failed, leaving Hal in a Silence of the Lambs–style jail cell. But the revelation of the Black Hood also left a profound effect on Betty, especially when Hal claimed she contained the same darkness. After all, she handed the phony Chic (Hart Denton) over to him to be disposed of a few episodes earlier and then there s also Dark Betty to consider. As it happens, we ve yet to see Dark Betty in season 3. Or Hal for that matter. Maybe he will impart some key lesson to help his daughter before the current season ends. That Titans Stinger SceneIf you haven’t watched all of DC Universe’s Titans, we suggest getting through the end credits of episode 11 to see what is arguably the most surprising and compelling stinger scene this year. With Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) still in the thrall of Trigon (Seamus Dever), the season ends on a dark note. But it almost immediately offers hope in the form of a disquiet Cadmus lab and a muscular young man with Superman’s S-Shield tattooed on his shoulder. It is clear he has escaped from his containment cell and that he’s taking a dog with him.Fans of the DC Comics characters will recognize the scene from the first appearance of the Superboy introduced after the 1992 “Death of Superman” storyline. In subsequent years, he came to be known as Connor Kent and served a long tenure in the Young Justice team and with a new generation of the Teen Titans. He subsequently disappeared from DC continuity during a legal battle with the family of Superboy creator Jerry Siegel. But when the dust settled, his absence became a major plot point of the Titans comic book.To see him suddenly appear in the Titans television show was a genuine shock. The program kept the characters powers more contained despite references to both Wonder Woman and Superman sprinkled throughout its first season. Also, Connor is not a mainstream character despite his role on the Young Justice animated series. But perhaps more crucially, he is not a member of the team Titans centers on. Nonetheless, it proved to be a magical moment suggesting Titans second season will branch out in new, startling directions. Well, once Dick frees himself from Trigon, of course.Daredevil’s Prison RiotIn a season filled with incredible moments, Daredevil’s third season prison riot will likely stand as the hallway fight subsequent Marvel shows will have to beat. Granted, only the remaining seasons of Jessica Jones and The Punisher will have that chance. Starting with Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox) completely off his footing, the sequence opens as the sloppiest of hallway fights. Even the orderlies — hired goons on Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) payroll — seem ill-equipped for the challenge. The humor subsides once Matt finds his way to the Albanian crime lord Fisk put behind bars. Here, in a brief moment of dialogue, Matt learns Fisk arranged to have himself shivved so his appeal to the FBI would seem more convincing. Following this revelation, Matt and one of the Albanians make their way through a complete prison riot, dodging inmates and guards as Matt tries to reach the outer gate and the cab which has been patiently waiting for him the whole time. Though constructed in several pieces, the finished sequence appears to be a single 12-minute take with no cutaways. It illustrates the confidence the show found in its third year; which also informs the subsequent Matt/Dex fight in Episode 6 and the way Fisk learns about Dex (Wilson Bethel) while sitting in his hotel suite. It was, in short, the hallway fight perfected.Which makes it all the sadder that Daredevil will never have the chance to top it.‘Beebo Wants Cuddles’When Cuddle Me Beebo was introduced in a 2017 episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, it seemed so unlikely that the parody of must-have holiday toys like Tickle Me Elmo, Furby, and Teddy Ruxpin would become a recurring element of the show’s mythology. But by May 2018, Legends had such confidence that it could use Beebo as the resolution of its season-long plot.Throughout the year, the Legends were tasked with obtaining a series of magical totems in order to keep the demon Mallus (John Noble) from returning to conventional time and space. But obtaining the totems would not be enough. As each selected a bearer — Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) received the Fire Totem, while the Death Totem chose Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) — it became more and more obvious that the often cantankerous Legends would have to work in concert to fight Mallus. After trying time and again to become something like the Voltron force, the group finally realized they could only defeat Mallus with a symbol of purity and joy, conjuring a giant version of the Beebo toy to use some mad kung-fu moves on the demon. The scene is just absolute madness and the least likely thing a viewer would expect to see on broadcast television: an ersatz Muppet fighting a CGI demon. To watch it out of context has nearly the same effect in context; it is absolutely cheesy, but Legends lost its fear of corny, silly images long ago.But then again, comics can and will be cheesy. Sometimes that’s the charm, and Legends brilliantly captured the thrill of seeing something completely silly paying off a long-teased conflict. And in a TV landscape full of serious images, a goofy thing winning the day is an admirable choice.Of course, these are just a handful of moments from a year more stuffed with comic book-based content than ever before. And as the will to bring these ideas from the page to screen gains more and more confidence, we expect 2019 to have even more amazing moments.Tell us about your favorite Comics-on-TV moment in the comments.

What Men Want (2019) 41% Generally speaking, romantic comedies are so formulaic that it usually takes something really out of the ordinary to stand out. Back in 2001, Nancy Meyers achieved great box office success less so with critics with the high-concept comedy What Women Want, which explored what would happen if an egocentric man were suddenly gifted with the ability to read the minds of women. That movie also benefited from a talented cast that included Helent Hunt, Marisa Tomei, Alan Alda, and a pre-controversy Mel Gibson. Fast forward to 2019, and we now have a gender-swapped version of the tale starring Taraji P. Henson as a female sports agent who, suddenly able to read men s thoughts, uses her newfound power to rise in her career and learn a few lessons about the opposite sex. Critics so far have responded to What Men Want about the same as they did to the original film, saying that its leads and lighthearted story are l天天连萌怎么刷金币在还原度和剧情线上把握住,还得拓展游戏更多的玩法,来维持游戏的日常更新。

(Photo by DC Comics)The Premise: A look at the day-to-day lives of the Neopolis Police Department’s 10th Precinct. In many ways, it resembles the venerable 1980s cop drama Hill Street Blues – except for the fact all the cops are superheroes in a world where almost everyone has a power and a costumed identity. Across the 12 issues and one hardcover special written by Moore, the series heavily featured detective Jeff Smax and his new partner Toybox. Of course, stories of other police officers and cases filtered throughout, even as it culminated in an overarching tale of government corruption. The Approach: If one chose to ignore the larger story developed across Moore s 12-issue run, it is very easy to see the program as its initial pitch: Hill Street Blues in a world of superheroes. Unlike, say, Sony’s adaptation of Powers, Top 10 would need the prestige budget to pull off the world as designed by artists Gene Ha and Zander Cannon; it’s stuffed to the margins with amazing-looking superheroes who flutter by for only an instant. Then there are the major characters like Smax, Dust Devil, and Sergeant Hyperdog to consider. They would be expensive to translate to live-action.But a point of departure from the comics could come from leaning even further in to the Hill Street Blues format, which burned its ongoing dramas slowly while favoring cases of the week. The format has served Law Order: Special Victims Unit well for 20 years and would give Top 10 enough of an engine to run five or so seasons as a prestige drama on a streaming service. From Hell As A Gritty and Complex Limited Series(Photo by Penguin Random House)The Premise: Inspector Frederick Abberline and charlatan psychic Robert James Lee investigate the vicious murders of sex workers in the Whitechapel district of London. The sensational details of the murders grab the attention of the Fleet Street papers, which leads the killer to write in and to the introduction of his legendary sobriquet: Jack the Ripper. Meanwhile, Royal Physician and Freemason Sir William Gull accepts an assignment from Queen Victoria to end the threat of an illegitimate heir via her grandson Albert marrying a commoner girl from the East End. He is also ordered to silence a group of sex workers who know the truth and attempt to blackmail one of the conspirators. The mission gives Gull the chance perform an obscure rite that will both solidify male dominance over women and, as he sees it, birth the 20th century. The Approach: Honestly, a direct adaptation would serve From Hell the best. The film version, directed by Albert and Allen Hughes, abandoned Moore’s compelling “why-dunit” narrative almost entirely in favor of the traditional “whodunit” seen in most Jack the Ripper movies. The text of From Hell (brilliantly realized by the great Eddie Campbell) leads readers down more sinister allies of government conspiracies, into the mysticism hidden in the layout of London, and even gives us a bit of time travel. It also features some striking characters in the form of Marie Kelly, Abberline, and Lee – to say nothing of Gull himself, who Moore and Campbell bring to such vivid life.Unlike some of the other Moore comics on this list, though, From Hell could only arrive on television as an eight-episode limited series. Both the story and its construction require the tight confines of the TV format, just like the original comics themselves.Miracleman As Prestige Drama With Big Names(Photo by Marvel)The Premise: By saying the word “Kimota!”, Michael Moran transforms into Miracleman – a character not unlike Shazam. Losing about a decade to a perceived amnesia, Moran eventually learns his time as Miracleman was a simulation orchestrated by the British government. It leads to conflict with fellow test subject Johnny Bates, who destroys the center of London and kills some 40,000 people. In the wake of their devastating battle, Miracleman is revealed to the world and decides to do the only sensible thing left to him: take over the planet and run it himself. The Approach: Mircaleman – also known as Marvelman in the U.K. – may lend itself the most to a Watchmen-style reinvention. In fact, writer Neil Gaiman and artist Mark Buckingham already did a lot of the development of the concept when they took over Miracleman from Moore and his collaborators. In their “Golden Age” storyline, Gaiman and Buckingham revealed a world under stress from the utopia built by Miracleman. The individual issues told tales of regular people chaffing against that fantastic world, removing Moran from the center of the action to a seemingly distant force. That concept would allow for a prestige drama about real people coping with an unwanted occupation. And like Watchmen, it would leave the text of the Moore stories as its history. Such a series could also find a way to finish up Gaiman and Buckingham’s abandoned “Silver Age” story, which was to see the return of Bates and reveal larger cracks in Miracleman s brave new world.Like the other Moore comics we’ve discussed so far, the idea fits snugly into the realm of prestige dramas on streaming services, meaning it would need a low episode count and a cadre of impressive actors to breathe life into its world.Tom Strong As High-End Animated Series(Photo by DC Comics)The Premise: Science hero Tom Strong – a spin on pulp adventurers like Doc Savage – his wife Dhalua, and their daughter Tesla, explore the world and battle science villains with the aid of steam-powered robot Pneuman and super-smart gorilla King Solomon. Along the way, luxurious flashbacks told in the style of older comics reveal Strong’s origins and other adventures from his long life. The Approach: The whimsical and good-hearted nature of the original Tom Strong series by Moore and artist Chris Sprouse lends itself best to an animated series. Of course, a high-end series with great animation and an absurd attention to details. The format allows the potential series to keep Sprouse’s design aesthetic while also seamlessly switching to other art or animation styles as the story dictates. It also means the program could keep the decidedly un-Watchmen feel of the comic. Designed in many respects to pull away from Moore’s tendency to deconstruct genre, Tom Strong is a character whose seeming simplicity calls for the sort of complexity one can find in the best animated tales.Captain Britain As A Disney+ Original(Photo by Marvel Comics)The Premise: A member of the lower aristocracy, Brian Braddock comes upon his powers when Merlyn (who claims to be the wizard of the Arthur legend) and his daughter Roma save him from a bad bike accident. Accepting the Amulet of Might, Brian is suffused with energy and becomes the Captain Britain of Earth-616, the main Earth of the Marvel Multiverse. Facing a gaggle of homegrown threats and inter-dimensional crises, Brian also attempts to keep up with his studies at university. When Moore and artist Alan Davis took over the character, they introduced characters like the time-traveling mercs known as the Special Executive and a superhero-slaying monster called The Fury. He and Davis also introduced the notion of the Marvel Multi-verse itself and even the Earth-616 designation. The Approach: Clearly, this is a Disney+ series waiting to happen. With its close ties to the multi-verse, it could serve as a way to explore those ideas – to say nothing of introducing different Marvel Earths – while also telling a very localized story about a British hero with deep roots in the country’s own mythology and history. Merlyn’s participation also gives such a show a mystical element not seen in the other Disney+ projects announced thus far. Also, with Captain Britain’s ties to the X-Men (his sister is the telepathic mutant formerly known as Psylocke), the series could also slyly introduce those characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All that said, this may be the one concept so removed from Moore’s spirit that it may not be much of a sacrilege to bring it to the screen. Also, since we were fans of the Excalibur comic by Chris Claremont and Davis, we just want the character to make his MCU debut.Like this? 8.43.0 7月喜迎Today s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news, covering titles like The Nun 2, The Six Billion Dollar Man, and The Suicide Squad. This WEEK S TOP STORYJOHN CENA JOINS THE SUICIDE SQUAD(Photo by Universal Pictures)The DC Comics movie The Suicide Squad might be over two years away (8/6/2021), but it s already casting up. Although the initial news suggested it would have a new cast, we now know that a few actors are returning (Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis). The biggest new name so far has been Idris Elba (in an unknown role, not Deadshot as previously reported), but a new name emerged this week. John Cena is now in talks to co-star in The Suicide Squad, in what will be his first movie directly based upon a comic book (not counting arguments that Bumblebee was comic-book-adjacent). It s not officially confirmed yet, but Collider claims that John Cena is up for the role of Peacemaker, which is the character that Dave Bautista would have played. Other new villains that director James Gunn is reportedly introducing in The Suicide Squad are King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, and Ratcatcher.Fresh Developments1. BLACK PANTHER S LETITIA WRIGHT FINDING DEATH ON THE NILE  (Photo by Marvel Studios)Letitia Wright s Shuri was arguably the breakout star of last year s Black Panther (as well as Avengers: Infinity War), but we haven t seen her parlay the success of that role into a lot of other projects just yet. That said, Wright is in Donald Glover s Guava Island (which you can watch here), and this week, she landed one of her first big post-Black Panther feature film roles. Letitia Wright will star in next year s Death on the Nile (10/22/2020), which is both a sequel to 2017 s Murder on the Orient Express and a remake, as Rosalie Otterbourne, one of the lead suspects in Agatha Christie s oriinal 1937 novel. Director Kenneth Branagh will also reprise his role as Hercule Poirot, and he and Wright will be joined by Gal Gadot and Armie Hammer in what is essentially the second film of a new Agatha Christie Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, Letitia Wright will also star in the English-language remake of Le Brio and co-star with John Boyega in the sci-fi romance Hold Back the Stars.2. THEY HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY: MARK WAHLBERG S SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN BEING REBUILT (Photo by Patti Perret/Paramount Pictures)Though it s looking like it will be the lowest-grossing live-action Transformers movie, producer/director Travis Knight s Bumblebee has still earned close to half a billion dollars worldwide, and its Certified Fresh 92% on the Tomatometer extended a five-film streak for him. All of that put together probably helped him this week, as he is now attached to direct the long-in-development The Six Billion Dollar Man, adapted from the 1970s hit TV series The Six Million Dollar Man (title changed to adjust for inflation). Mark Wahlberg has long been attached to star as Col. Steve Austin, and he remains so. Part of the reason for the delay on The Six Billion Dollar Man was that it was previously a Weinstein Co. production, so it had to find a new home at Warner Bros. following the crisis.3. JANELLE MONÁE JOINED BY ALL STAR CAST IN THRILLER (Photo by James Atoa/Everett Collection)Singer-turned-actress Janelle Monáe will be starring in an untitled racial thriller for Lionsgate, and this week, we learned that the film will also feature several familiar faces from film and TV. Monáe s new co-stars will include Kiersey Clemons (Dope), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jena Malone (Donnie Darko, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire). Janelle Monáe will be starring as a woman desperately trying to flee her captors, although the setting and premise is otherwise unknown. This project will mark the feature film debut of the Bush + Renz directing team ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10065694/ ), who have previously worked on musical videos including Jay-Z s Kill Jay-Z. 4. CLINT EASTWOOD MAY DIRECT TRUE STORY THE BALLAD OF RICHARD JEWELL (Photo by Keith Bernstein/Warner Bros.)Some of the many repercussions of Disney s acquisition of the Fox film and TV properties have been rather surprising. This week, for example, there was news of a director based almost entirely at Warner Bros. since the 1970s who s now considering switching sides to work for Disney/Fox. That director is Clint Eastwood, who may sign on to direct The Ballad of Richard Jewell. If that name sounds familiar, it may be that you remember the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, when a security guard named Richard Jewell who discovered a bomb was then accused in the media of actually being the bomber himself (he wasn t). The Ballad of Richard Jewell has been in development for several years, including a period when it was a starring vehicle for Jonah Hill (who is no longer attached to star).5. TWO NEW PROJECTS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE ALUM KRISTEN WIIG (Photo by Wilson Webb/20th Century Fox)Former Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig has a handful of films on the horizon, including Where d You Go, Bernadette (8/16/2019) and Wonder Woman 1984 (6/5/2020) (as the villain Cheetah), but this week, she secured a couple more.. Wiig s first new project is Netflix s A Boy Called Christmas, which will feature British actresses Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and Dame Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey), as well as Jim Broadbent and Toby Jones. Kristen Wiig is also reuniting with her Bridesmaids cowriter Annie Mumolo on a comedy called Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar. Wiig and Mumolo will costar as two friends from a small Midwestern town who go on vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida, where they soon find themselves tangled up in a villain’s evil plot to kill everyone in town. 6. JENNIFER LAWRENCE S MYSTERY INDIE MOVIE (Photo by 20th Century Fox)With The Hunger Games done  and the X-Men franchise wrapping up with Dark Phoenix (6/7/2019), Jennifer Lawrence will soon no longer be a part of any major active franchises. While she remains attached to Adam McKay s Bad Blood as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, it appears that film s not yet ready to start production, and in the meantime, Lawrence had taken a year off from working. This week, though, she signed on for her first post-break project, and it s an indie production instead of a big franchise entry. Lawrence will work with A24 on an untitled drama that will also be the feature film debut of theater director Lila Neugebauer. Nothing else is really known about this project except that it s scheduled to start filming in New Orleans in June (so it might be set somewhere sunny? Yeah, we ve got no clue).7. TRAIN TO BUSAN STAR JOINS MARVEL S THE ETERNALS (Photo by Well Go USA Entertainment)We ve known for a while that Marvel Studios is reportedly looking to cast an openly gay actor for one of the lead roles in next year s The Eternals. This week, that scope narrowed considerably with this story claiming that they re specifically looking for an openly gay actor who s also of Asian heritage. In addition to Angelina Jolie, Marvel has also cast two Asian actors so far, starting last week with Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, HBO s Silicon Valley), who is rumored to be playing the super speedster Makkari. The second was South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok, who is probably best known for his role in the zombie movie Train to Busan. Although Marvel Studios has not yet officially announced a release date for The Eternals, it may be their film scheduled for November 6, 2020.Rotten Ideas2. DISNEY SHUTS DOWN FOX S MOUSE GUARD TWO WEEKS BEFORE FILMINGIt probably shouldn t be that surprising (maybe just disappointing), but as Disney absorbs their newly acquired Fox properties, some pre-existing Fox projects may end up not happening. We now know this because Disney has pulled the plug on the high profile adaptation of the Mouse Guard comic book just two weeks before filming had been scheduled to start. (Whether the mouse house objected to Mouse Guard somehow is completely open to speculation.) Mouse Guard was to have been a motion-capture adventure with a cast that included Andy Serkis and Idris Elba, with other cast members likely to be added soon. Despite the sudden shelving, Mouse Guard could still happen someday, as Disney is allowing the project s producers to shop it around to other studios.1. GET THEE TO A SEQUELERY: THE NUN 2 (Photo by Warner Bros.)This week s The Curse of La Llorona (Rotten at 36%) is the sixth film in The Conjuring Universe, and the franchise is showing few signs of slowing down. Annabelle Comes Home is scheduled for June 28, 2019, and The Conjuring 3 is due next year on September 11, 2020. (We should also note the passing of Lorraine Warren, whose life inspired The Conjuring, at the age of 92.) Last year s The Nun was a spinoff from The Conjuring 2, and the film went on to earn over 5 million worldwide. So, New Line Cinema is also now moving forward on development on a sequel to The Nun, starting with the hiring of screenwriter Akela Cooper, who s previously worked on Netflix s Luke Cage series. The Nun received a Rotten Tomatometer score of just 26%. Even if the sequel doubles that score, it would still be Rotten.Like this? And why? There s an air of inevitability around Nomadland, and it s hard to argue with over 150 wins across various awards ceremonies this year – it has more Best Picture wins from different awards bodies than any other nominee. But the same was said of La La Land, Get Out, and Roma their respective years and all of them lost in the end. If there is a film that could unseat the Nomadland Goliath, it is Aaron Sorkin s The Trial of the Chicago 7. An additional wrinkle is the fact many voters haven t seen as much as they normally would, and apathy may trump inevitability. Be prepared, though: we could even see a shocker like Judas and the Black Messiah or Promising Young Woman winning it all come Sunday, but our money is still on Nomadland. Best Actor In a Leading Role(Photo by © Netflix)Who will win?Chadwick Boseman – Ma Rainey s Black BottomAnd why? Though Anthony Hopkins is a potential spoiler for his turn as an Alzheimer s sufferer in The Father, this Oscar is Boseman s, which is what we ve been saying since the film debuted last Fall. And while some will say he will win because of his untimely death, he deserves the win for his performance alone – and it will be a fitting tribute to his legacy.Best Actress In A Leading Role(Photo by David Lee/Netflix)Who will win?Viola Davis – Ma Rainey s Black BottomAnd why? In truth, we don t know about this one. Andra Day won the Golden Globe for The United States Vs. Billie Holiday, Carey Mulligan took home the Critics Choice for Promising Young Woman, Frances McDormand won the BAFTA for Nomadland, and Viola Davis took home the SAG Award. Without indicative wins to really give us a clear favorite, we are putting the most weight behind the SAG honor. As McDormand is listed as a producer for Nomadland, it is assumed she is not going home empty-handed given that film will likely win Best Picture, so why not give this one to Davis, who s already down one Oscar after losing for her worthy work in Doubt. Best Actor In a Supporting RoleWho will win?Daniel Kaluuya – Judas and the Black MessiahAnd why? Daniel Kaluuya has been pretty unstoppable since the crime thriller committed to the season earlier this year. With wins at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, SAGs, and Critic s Choice Awards, if the Get Out star didn t win by some fluke, it would be one of the biggest upset in Oscars history. (*whispers*: And that s just NOT gonna happen.)Best Actress In A Supporting Role(Photo by © A24 / Courtesy Everett Collection)Who will win?Youn Yuh-jung – MinariAnd why? Sorry, Madam Glenn Close, we want you to get that golden statue as much as anyone, but Hillbilly Elegy was – let s say – not your best outing, at least according to the critics. We re even more determined she stay seated when the winner is read, as her win would knock out Youn Yuh-jung, brilliant as a grandmother like none you ve met in Lee Isaac Chung s moving family drama, Minari, and who is just as deserving as any other veteran for the work she s given us over five decades.Best Animated Feature FilmWho will win?

King of the Crop: Jumanji Destroys the Competition(Photo by Sony Pictures)Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle opened on a Wednesday, five days after the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and in its first five days, it grossed .77 million. Jumanji: The Next Level took just three days to make million, way ahead of its ultra-conservative estimates of just million. That may only be the 13th best start for a film in the month of December, but if it follows suit with the other films like it, The Next Level should pass 0 million with no issue. Sony has a much higher number in mind, given that Jungle had the second-best December multiple of all time (after Avatar) when it earned 11.18 times its opening Fri-Sun weekend, amounting to over 0 million domestic. Another 7 million internationally gave the film enough (2 million) to place among the Top 50 grossing films ever; a spot it is likely to relinquish soon after The Rise of Skywalker opens. Can The Next Level reach the 0 million level? Only 12 other films to have started in December (including the limited release of American Sniper, which broke through in January) have done it. Four are Lord of the Rings/Hobbit films, three are Star Wars, two are from James Cameron, and the others are Aquaman and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Budgeted at 5 million, The Next Level’s global total currently stands at 3 million and will have no problem turning a profit for Sony.Rotten Returns: Richard Jewell and Black Christmas Fail to Make an Impact‘Tis the season not to release films about terrorist bombings and serial killers. It is hard to say whether or not the accompanying controversy over the portrayal of a journalist in Richard Jewell really kept people away, but a Clint Eastwood film without a big star at its center (like Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper or… Clint Eastwood) is normally not a big draw. The last Eastwood film without any of those faces in front of the camera to gross over million was 2003’s Mystic River. But the last of his films to open as weak as Jewell ( million) was, ironically, True Crime, back in 1999. Eastwood the actor only drew a .27 million opening for that February release, which went on to gross just .64 million. His Best Picture nominee, Letters from Iwo Jima, made just .75 million. Jewell may still find itself grossing over million, but it will rank as one of the lowest-grossing wide releases of his career and one of the bigger losers, given its million budget. Then there is Black Christmas, the second remake of Bob Clark’s first great Christmas film from 1974. The 2006 remake opened to just .72 million and finished with .27 million. The 2019 version did not do much better, with a .4 million start after what turned out to be an against-the-odds projection of -12 million. Horror has not been a popular genre to release in December, and the numbers show why. Going all the way back to 1981, only three horror films have opened to more than million in December (Scream 2, Krampus, and the 1998 remake of Psycho) and only four horror films have grossed over million (Scream, Scream 2, Krampus, and Dracula 2000.) In Blumhouse fashion, the budget for Black Christmas was only million, so it is not some major financial disaster, but if it fails to reach the million benchmark set by the 2006 remake (Rotten at 14%), that has to stand as a big disappointment. The Top 10 and Beyond: Frozen II Hangs on, Uncut Gems and Bombshell Are Solid in Limited TheatersThe champion of the past three weeks fell to second place, as Frozen II missed becoming the 45th film to gross more than million in its fourth weekend of wide release, though its .18 million raised its tally to 6.54 million, which is the 19th best ever after 24 days. That s about million higher than The Hunger Games: Catching Fire had back in 2013, when it was the original Frozen’s November partner in grossing 0 million. Frozen II’s fourth weekend is also around million more so we should expect no less than 0 million domestic in its pocket by the end of its run. Most importantly, though, Frozen II has become Disney’s 6th film this year to cross the billion-dollar mark which makes it the 38th highest-grossing film ever, and it will ultimately join the Top 25. The original Frozen currently ranks 15th, with .274 billion. Frozen II is only 2 million behind right now. Then we have two films making their runs toward 0 million. Ford v Ferrari is nearly there after another .14 million this weekend. Its total stands at .2 million domestic, but it is the 5 million global tally that lingers for Fox, as that is still around million behind where it needs to be to recoup its costs. Rian Johnson’s Knives Out is already into profit for Lionsgate and is now just trying to leg it out to the milestone. With .8 million so far, the murder mystery is hitching a ride on the numbers that Creed had at this point, within a million behind of both it’s 19-day tally and its third weekend. Creed finished with 9 million. That is a number that Ferrari is also headed towards and even with Knives a few million behind its pace it looks like it should still cross the finish line and may even pass Ferrari worldwide as it currently has 2 million.Benny and Josh Safdie’s Uncut Gems (92%) with Adam Sandler had a stellar showing in just five theaters grossing 5,498. While that is the second best per-theater-average of the year (5,099) behind just Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (8,072 in each of three theaters), it is the fourth-best ever for a film released in five theaters. Only La La Land (1,104), The Master (6,311), and Brokeback Mountain (7,425) opened better. Gems also just missed a personal best PTA for A24, passing such notable titles as Lady Bird (,109) and this year’s The Farewell (,916), but was just behind Moonlight (0,519) as the all-time champion. We will see if the estimates come out higher on Monday. The studio’s ,000+ PTAs have all grossed at least .3 million. The Safdies last film, Good Time with Robert Pattinson, grossed a total of .02 million. The list of four-theater openings is a little steeper, but Jay Roach’s Bombshell nevertheless had a solid showing this weekend. With 2,000 the Fox News sexual harassment expose became the 15th best opening within that group ahead. Among the top 15 films in that group, 11 of them were nominated for Best Picture (with The Farewell TBD) including the aforementioned American Sniper (the all-time champ with 3,667) and Moonlight, which went on to win the Oscar, as did Birdman (4,397).Terrence Malick’s latest, A Hidden Life, had a less than great showing with just ,000 in five theaters. That comes between his last two narrative releases, Song to Song (,559 / Rotten at 43%) and Knight of Cups (,551 / Rotten at 47%), which were only in four theaters initially. A Hidden Life’s PTA (,400) is the director’s third lowest since his return to cinema in 1998 with The Thin Red Line and could be second lowest if the estimates fall. This has to be cited as a big disappointment for Fox Searchlight, who released the three-hour film featuring his first positive score with critics (78%) since The Tree of Life in 2011.This Time Last Year: Spider-Verse Swings into First Place(Photo by Sony Pictures Animation)The Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature first took the #1 spot at the box office this weekend. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opened to .36 million, doubling the take by Clint Eastwood’s The Mule, which began with .50 million. In turn, Eastwood’s film more than doubled the start of Mortal Engines (.55 million) which ultimately barely doubled its opening weekend to become one of the biggest bombs of 2018. Both Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Ralph Breaks the Internet passed 0 million, and Creed II got over 0 million. James Wan’s Aquaman earned .9 million in special previews and that was good enough to grab the tenth slot on the list. Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk opened to 4,476 in four theaters, which amounted to the eighth best per-theater-average of the year. The Top Ten films grossed 1.64 million and averaged 67% on the Tomatometer. This year’s Top Ten grossed an estimated 2.24 Million and averaged 76.7% with critics. On the Vine: Jumanji Is Back, Along with a Slew of Awards Hopefuls(Photo by © Lucasfilm)The week fans both young and old have been waiting decades for is finally here: The big-screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats arrives to storm the box office with its blend of live-action FX wizardry and angel-like lyrics. All kidding aside, while that all remains to be seen, it is also the week that the Skywalker Saga comes to an end. For years, fans all over the world have been anticipating the conclusion of the nine-film arc that George Lucas hinted at so many years ago. And now Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Episode IX of the series, arrives and will undoubtedly be one of the biggest hits of 2019 and ultimately give Disney its 7th billion-dollar film of the year and push their grosses to over billion. The Full Top 10: December 13-15Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) 71% – .1 million (.1 million total)Frozen II (2019) 78% – .18 million (6.54 million total)Knives Out (2019) 97% – .25 million (.91 million total)Richard Jewell (2019) 77% –  million ( million total)Black Christmas (2019) 39% – .42 million (.42 million total)Ford v Ferrari (2019) 92% – .14 million (.12 million total)Queen & Slim (2019) 83% – .6 million (.17 million total)A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019) 95% – .35 million (.32 million total)Dark Waters (2019) 89% – (.89 million total)21 Bridges (2019) 54% – .19 million (.36 million total)
in Nicole, idobi.com Audiences new to the work are about to be introduced to a darker interpretation of what it means to grow up in a family of superhumans. The Incredibles this is not.  — Alexandra August, CBR As much as I love the original Umbrella Academy comics, I must admit: the series is more coherent, so newbies to the story will feel right at home.  — Samantha Puc, The Mary Sue(Photo by Netflix)What s to love (or hate) about these heroes? It’s one of those shows where the characters are at their best when they’re all together, bickering and bantering, but the plot keeps them separated just for the sake of dragging out the big reveals.  — Sam Barsanti, AV Club The majority of The Umbrella Academy is marred by fumbled attempts at character development and stilted performances. The protagonists rarely transcend the broadest strokes as the Netflix series dwells on the same few character beats and displays of sibling bickering and mind-numbing romance.  — Steven Scaife, Slant Magazine There s plenty of good material to mine here, from Vanya s desperation for being loved, Luther s want for approval, Allison s insecurity, Klaus shielding himself from feeling, Diego thinking he has a point to prove, and Five untrusting of anyone else, in addition to the foster siblings collective parental issues. But the writing is too threadbare and inconsistent to bring that up in an affecting manner.  — Akhil Arora, Gadgets360 [Luther] is fucking boring, and that’s a problem. Through the first five episodes, he does nothing spectacular. He’s plain, he doesn’t go against the grain. He probably eats unseasoned grits. The women of this series seem to be the saving grace. — Kenneth Broome, Black Nerd Problems The actors succeed to varying degrees — Hopper and Raver-Lampman, who share a flirtation that’s both troubling and sweetly revealing of their mutual isolation, are probably the best of the bunch, while Page ultimately feels marooned by the dourness of her material and a character evolution that’s written in a muddled and unclear way. — Daniel D Addario, VarietyAction-fantasy, family drama, or both? The Umbrella Academy is a murder mystery wrapped in an apocalyptic drama with a wild plot which takes in time travel, a talking chimp and the end of the world. — Henry Northmore, The List The Umbrella Academy is ostensibly about superheroes trying to save the world, but they’re so caught up in personal conflicts that very little world-saving takes place. — Gavia Baker-Whitelaw, The Daily Dot The show may be wrapped in superheroics and action, but it’s really about a group of people who have to work through their painful pasts and realize that forgiving one another is far tougher than the bigger task (saving the world, I guess) at hand.  — Alex Abad-Santos, Vox The cleverest part of it, though, is that this isn’t really a Watchmen-style deconstruction of the superhero genre; it’s about a weird family that has drifted apart for various reasons and must now come back together, baggage and all, in order to save the world one more time. — Sam Barsanti, AV Club(Photo by Netflix)How s the tone? It’s pure comic book through and through.  It doesn’t care about being great nearly as much as it does about being fun and exciting. — Merrill Barr, Forbes Umbrella Academy embraces its comic book origins, balancing cartoonish worldbuilding and visual flourishes with a sincere emotional arc. The overall vibe is a lot like an adult version of Netflix’s Series of Unfortunate Events.  — Gavia Baker-Whitelaw, The Daily Dot It sounds melancholy in a Six Feet Under kind of way, and it can be, but the series also boasts a sardonic sense of humor to keep things light. Doom and gloom this is not. — Brandon Katz, Observer Its composition, like a giant dollhouse cut open, is reminiscent of a Wes Anderson flick (think a more emo, gothic Royal Tenenbaums), but there s little of that offbeat charm elsewhere.   — Akhil Arora, Gadgets360Final verdict? Critics can t agree. The Umbrella Academy offers something new and unique in an already crowded genre and is a rare example of an adaptation that might actually surpass the source material.  — Henry Northmore, The List After a while, endless stylization for its own sake comes to feel cluttered and, worst of all, dull.  — Daniel D Addario, Variety Basically: This is the apocalypse we’ve been waiting for! — Sherin Nicole, idobi.com Despite such an audacious premise, The Umbrella Academy quickly slumps into mopey mediocrity, unable to render any of the visual imagination the material practically begs for. — Steven Scaife, Slant Magazine The joy of Umbrella Academyis that you can never predict the path the show will take as a superhero-tinged TV show, it gets everything right. — Allison Keene, Collider

And that has never starred in Indian-American girl.”In the interview, Fisher also shares why she and Kaling decided to anchor the story in grief and darkness – something that working with Netflix allowed them the freedom to do – and how they managed to convince famous curmudgeon John McEnroe to sign on as the voice inside Devi’s head.Watch the full interview above or at Netflix s FYSEE TV site.Never Have I Ever is streaming now on Netflix. Today s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles such as The Batman, Dune, and Detective Pikachu. This WEEK S TOP STORYGUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY DIRECTOR REBOOTING THE SUICIDE SQUAD (Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Last July, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was fired by Walt Disney Pictures from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after old, offensive jokes on Twitter resurfaced. A few months later, we started hearing that Marvel s distinguished competition at Warner Bros and DC Comics were hiring Gunn to write and possibly direct the next Suicide Squad movie. This week, we learned that yes, Gunn is now in talks with Warner Bros. to direct a film to be called The Suicide Squad (8/6/2021), which is being described as a relaunch of the concept. Gunn is expected to use an almost entirely new group of super villains, which means that most of the characters that appeared in the 2016 movie will not return for The Suicide Squad. (We re thinking here of The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, etc.) There have been dozens of Suicide Squad members in the comics, so there are lots of possibilities, including characters like Bronze Tiger, Killer Frost, King Shark, Major Disaster, and Vixen.  Fresh Developments1. BEN AFFLECK-FREE THE BATMAN COMING IN 2021, PLUS OTHER DC COMICS MOVIES NEWS(Photo by Zack Snyder)This really was a crazy week for DC Comics movies. We re going to cover multiple release dates for 2020 in a bit, but here, the focus is two years out: 2021. That s because The Batman, the reboot in which Ben Affleck will not play Bruce Wayne, is now scheduled for June 25, 2021. Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) is writing and directing The Batman, which will feature a younger Batman in a detective story involving a rogues gallery of Bat-villains (which may or may not include Josh Gad as The Penguin). Another film now scheduled for 2021 is an animated movie for DC Super Pets (5/21/21), which may include such four legged sidekicks as Krypto the Superdog, Ace the Bat-Hound, and Supergirl s cat Streaky. Meanwhile, we heard this week that Warner Bros. and James Wan are now looking for a good Aquaman 2 screenplay. Meanwhile, Aquaman has become the top grossing DC Comics movie of all time.2. THIS WEEK IN DC COMICS PART 3 KEVIN SMITH REVEALS WHAT-MIGHT-HAVE-BEEN FOR JUSTICE LEAGUE 2/3 (Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Continuing our coverage of this crazy week full of DC Comics movies news, we will start with the news of two movies which will not happen. Kevin Smith was on a podcast recently, and there he revealed what he knew of what director Zack Snyder had planned for Justice League 2 and 3. Basically Justice League 2 would have been an outer space battle with Darkseid (which he would have won, ala Avengers: Infinity War), and then the war would have continued on an Earth conquered by Darkseid (images of which we saw in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). As all that suggests, Zack Snyder is now done with DC Comics movies, and we now know that instead, he will return to his Dawn of the Dead zombie roots with a Netflix project called Army of the Dead. Director Patty Jenkins also revealed this week that her Wonder Woman 3 will be a contemporary film, following next year s Wonder Woman 1984 (6/5/2020). 3. RELEASE DATES FOR 2020 INCLUDE GHOSTBUSTERS 3, CHRISTOP

Watch: Judd Apatow on the making of The 40-Year-Old Virgin above. In 2019, Rotten Tomatoes turns 21, and to mark the occasion we’re celebrating the 21 Most Memorable Moments from the movies over the last 21 years. In this special video series, we speak to the actors and filmmakers who made those moments happen, revealing behind-the-scenes details of how they came to be and diving deep into why they’ve stuck with us for so long. Once we’ve announced all 21, it will be up to you, the fans, to vote for which is the most memorable moment of all. In this episode of our ‘21 Most Memorable Moments’ series, director and co-writer Judd Apatow takes us behind the scenes of the infamous (and real-life!) chest-waxing scene from The 40-Year-Old Virgin.VOTE FOR THIS MOMENT IN OUR 21 MOST MEMORABLE MOVIE MOMENTS POLLTHE MOVIE: The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) 85%It’s hard to believe that Judd Apatow’s The 40-Year-Old Virgin is just 14 years old – it feels like we’ve been living in the Apatow comedy era for so much longer than that. Back then, Steve Carell – whose series The Office had just debuted and had yet to take on cult status – was not quite a household name, and Apatow himself hadn’t become his own brand of comedy. (Say “Apatow production” today and moviegoers know exactly the kind of smart, sweet, and raunchy ride they re in for – and who’s likely to be appearing in it.) In a sense, Virgin, Apatow’s feature directing debut, recalibrated comedy for the new millennium, bringing an edge to the rom-com formula, introducing us to a new kind of hero in Andy (Carell), and ushering in the faces who would come to dominate comedy for the next decade and a half (Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, and Mindy Kaling all appear in parts big and small). It all got started on the set of another seminal comedy, Anchorman, which Apatow was producing and Carell was co-starring in “I think that the pitch he had was, ‘You know how when you touch
